Hello and welcome, camp counselors and eager new campers alike! We are proud to announce the HACKETT’S QUARRY SUMMER CAMP CELEBRATION WEEK. 

What is the HACKETT’S QUARRY SUMMER CAMP CELEBRATION WEEK, you may ask? Great question! 

It’s 7 days in August dedicated to celebrating THE QUARRY, the new game from Supermassive Games. One prompt per day, we welcome all sorts of fannish content: fic, art, vids, playlists, gifsets, headcanons. Anything and everything! 

The celebration week will run from August 17, 2022, to August 23rd, 2022, meaning it ends on the one year anniversary of that fateful night (or morning, technically) at Hackett’s Quarry! What a better way to commemorate that crazy night than talking about our favorite characters, ships, and more? 

Rebloggable versions of our Rules/Regulations, FAQ, and Prompts/Schedule will be going live soon. In the meantime, reblog this post to spread the news! The more the merrier.

Day Six | August 22 | Favorite Kill The game is gory as hell, with a plethora of excellent kills, traps, and injuries. Which do you love best?

Day Seven | August 23 | Favorite Ship The one we’re all here for, let’s be real. Romance is alive and well in Hackett’s Quarry, though the same can’t be said for our counselors. Today’s the day we go out with a bang and dedicate it all to our favorite Quarry ships!

1. Be nice, respectful, and all around cool! We are all here because we love the game. No hate, bullying, or discrimination of any kind will be allowed. If we find out you have broken this rule, you’ll be blocked by the blog and won’t be allowed to participate.

2. No ship hate whatsoever! This goes hand in hand with rule number one, but we felt it best to reiterate: no ship hate will be tolerated. If you don’t like a ship, that’s totally fine! But we will not tolerate any slander or bullying related to what people ship.

3. No kinkshaming whatsoever! Similar to rule number 2, we will not tolerate any kind of kinkshaming. We will always tag kinks/ships/etc accordingly, so if you don’t want to see something, make sure you have that tag blacklisted. If you see a kink you don’t like or one that squicks you out, just move along.

What is this? A blog dedicated to celebrating the game THE QUARRY. There will be 7 days with a prompt each day to celebrate all the different characters, ships, kills. Basically a place to show your love for anything related to this game!

How does it work? Each day will have a prompt, which you can find under the navigation button on the righthand side! Each day, people can post fics, art, gifsets, playlists, anything to celebrate the prompt accordingly.

Are there any restrictions on who can join? Nope! Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate.

How do we participate? Create any kind of fanwork (fics, art, videos, playlists, gifsets, headcanons, the possibilities are endless!) and then post it on the corresponding day. Tag your posts with “hqsc best summer ever” and/or tag this blog on your post! That way we should always be able to find your contributions. If you post something and you’re worried we may have missed it, please DM the blog with a link! 

I don't like the ship/kink someone is posting about, what do I do? We welcome ALL ships/kinks here, and shiphate/kinkshaming will not be tolerated whatsoever. If we reblog something you don't like, just keep on scrolling and come back later.

Day Three | Favorite Tarot Card

Okay, since I couldn’t figure out how to sketch @hacketts-quarry-summer-camp’s Day 3 prompt without simply recreating the card, I figured the best way to go about this one was to just write out my thoughts

So, without further ado, let’s analyze my favorite tarot card out of the bunch…

✨The Magician✨

“The Magician! The incredible, the unbelievable, The mystical, sensational! ... Perceptive manipulation - the work of a magician. Now you see it. Now you don't. Blink and you miss it. And you wouldn't want to miss it.”

The first thing you notice is that Ryan is the main subject, which might be a reference to one of two things:

There’s a line from the card’s description that says “Now you see it. Now you don't”; Ryan is the one who makes Dylan’s hand “disappear”, just as a magician would make their assistant “disappear” in their acts

If you choose the “Dismissive” option as Ryan in the radio hut, Dylan will tell him not to underestimate technology, referring to it as “magic”. This prompts Ryan to say “Oh, so you would be the magician?” In this case, Dylan is the one being referred to as the magician, but Ryan is the one to actually say the words (I admit, this one may be a stretch, but I assume they must’ve included that line of dialogue on purpose to go with its tarot card)

I was curious how similar the design of Eliza’s card is to its IRL counterpart (not all tarot cards are designed to look the same), so I want to go over those similarities and other details to see what they could mean/be referencing. For reference, I’ll be comparing Eliza’s card with Le Bateleur*, from the Tarot of Marseille, c. 17th and 18th centuries:

Ryan is wearing an outfit that’s nearly identical to Le Bateleur’s outfit, aside from some minor differences (i.e. the sleeves and the stripe down the front of Ryan’s tunic are blue instead of yellow, Ryan has balls on the top of his booties while Le Bateleur doesn’t, etc.)

Ravens often symbolizes wisdom, prophecy, insight, and/or death; these cards foretell events that either warn us of upcoming danger that can kill the counselors, or ways we can help the counselors achieve a certain goal

Most of the clutter on Le Bateleur’s table isn’t on Ryan’s table; instead, it’s replaced by that long saw, which is a clear reference to the chainsaw that he can use to cut off Dylan’s hand

The brim of their hats is reminiscent of the infinity logo ♾ (I’m not sure if that detail was intentional or not)

There’s one more thing I wanted to look into, and that’s the meaning of the real life “The Magician” tarot card:

“When the Magician appears in a spread, it points to the talents, capabilities and resources at the querent's disposal to succeed. The message is to tap into one's full potential rather than holding back, especially when there is a need to transform something” (via Google)

Since I’m applying this to the context of The Quarry, I believe that the first line I highlighted (“it points to the talents, capabilities and resources at the querent's disposal to succeed”) could refer to how Ryan is capable of using the chainsaw or the shotgun, aka the “resources” at Ryan has at his disposal, to amputate Dylan’s hand

The second highlighted line (“…especially when there is a need to transform something”) could refer to the necessity of the amputation; Dylan losing his hand is a morbid kind of “transformation”, but if you want to prevent Dylan from turning into a werewolf for the rest of the game, it needs to happen

What if we’re currently working on art that we want to share, but it doesn’t necessarily fit any of the prompts; can we submit it as a part of appreciation week celebration anyway? Or should we just share them outside of the appreciation week submissions (without tagging you and/or using the “hqsc best summer ever” tag)?

Hiya, that's a great question! The prompts are meant to be fairly broad, and we welcome all interpretations, so if you can make it even remotely fit for a prompt (i.e., if it's art of Dylan and Jacob being bros, that could work for favorite male characters, or even favorite ship cuz platonic ships can count too!) then please feel free to tag the blog/use the specific hashtag!

If it doesn't quite fit a prompt, you can still tag us if you'd like and we may be reblog it as part of our "inspo" tag (which we plan to get going here soon, life has been crazy lately!)
