RECENT NEWS, RESOURCES & STUDIES, early February 2020
Tumblr media
Welcome to my latest summary of recent ecommerce news, resources & studies including search, analytics, content marketing, social media & Etsy! This covers articles I came across since the late January report, although some may be older than that. Report is a bit short because I was sick this last week; don’t worry, I used hand sanitizer before typing this up, so you are all safe 🤒
I am currently looking into setting up a new ecommerce business forum where we can discuss this sort of news, as well as any day-to-day issues we face. I need some good suggestions for a cheap or free forum space that has some editing tools, is fairly intuitive for inexperienced members, and is accessible. If you have any suggestions, please reply to this post, email me on my website, or send me a tweet. (I will put out a survey once we narrow this down to some good candidates, but if you have any other comments on what you want from such a forum, please include those too!)
As always, if you see any stories I might be interested in, please let me know!
TOP NEWS & ARTICLES
Searchmetrics says Etsy did quite well [podcast & text] in the Google January Core Update, while both Amazon and Walmart lost a little bit. “Who won January? I’m going to say Etsy. Etsy has really done a tremendous job [with Google visibility] over the last two years. Sure, they’ve been on the winning side of the algorithm update, but consistently, being in that a position, from my experience, isn’t by chance.” Here’s more analysis listing the US winners and losers, including by subject category (sadly, not shopping sites). Marie Haynes says that the update likely targeted sites that aren’t properly disclosing affiliate links, as well as some pet health sites.
Since a quarter of Americans have a disability, your website, your products & your marketing should be more accessible. Lots of good ideas in here!
ETSY NEWS
TOU alert: Etsy has banned the sale of spent bullet casings (often used as craft supplies). It’s not clear why. There is a thread from a seller whose listings were pulled here.
The 2020 wedding trends blog post is one of those pieces that is useful to sellers & buyers alike, and is also good for Etsy because it attracts outside articles and links. Some trend & keyword info of interest: ”there has been a 171% increase in searches on Etsy for bridesman items and a 72% increase in searches for best woman items”... “searches for ‘70s invitations increase 18% and searches for disco ball items increase 18%” ...”24% increase in searches for bridal jackets and a 4% increase in searches for women’s pantsuits” …”searches for reused, recycled, or reclaimed wedding items increasing 7%” in the last six months (compared to the same time the previous year).
Etsy released its annual diversity & inclusion report on January 29, getting some media coverage along the way, for example here, here and here.
Reverb hired David Mandelbrot as their new CEO; he most recently ran Indiegogo. (Etsy bought Reverb last year.)
The 4th quarter 2019 results will be out Feb. 26. I am currently planning on doing my usual summary thread in the forum.
Decent overview of product photography for beginners, with some pointers on what Etsy wants you to do with photos. For example, “The recommended size for listing images is 2000px for the shortest side of the image, and a resolution of 72PPI.”
SEO: GOOGLE & OTHER SEARCH ENGINES
So you know what Etsy tags are, but you get confused when people talk about tags for search engines? Read this beginners guide to SEO meta tags. (not needed for Etsy shops, but it is terminology used by some website builder sites, as well as coders of course.)
Data provider Jumpshot will be closing due to the controversies over the revelation that their parent company Avast (the anti-virus software) provided user activity to Jumpshot while perhaps not always fully disclosing this to the users. This will affect some SEO tools that relied on these click stats to generate estimates for traffic & search term use, Hitwise & Moz among them.  “In all likelihood, Avast took the action to protect its core business, as multiple articles, including from Consumer Reports, called out the company for its data collection practices, while some called for the uninstallation of the Avast software. This is probably as much PR damage control as it is driven by any principled position.”
Forbes appears to have been hit by some Google search issue, but it happened later than the Core Update, so no one is sure what is going on.They were previously penalized for selling links, but that was years ago.
John Mueller listed all of the big Google search news from January in this almost 9 minute video. Click to see the detailed info under the video, because they helpfully summarized the important topics by timestamp, and linked to text resources as well. (Some of it is technical/coding relating; you have been warned!)
There may be another big Google ranking update happening right now (Feb. 9), as tracked by Search Engine Roundtable. Check that site over the next few days for any updates.
CONTENT MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA (includes blogging & emails)
The time you send your marketing emails matters, although it’s going to vary more than this article lets on. Keep track of your own stats.
Debunking some myths about Instagram, including the importance of your follower count. “...your follower count isn’t the most important metric on Instagram. Your engagement rate is. Your engagement rate (which is found by calculating the number of engagements you receive divided by EITHER the number of people who saw it OR your total followers, depending on who you ask) is crucial.”
If you use the app Social Captain for Instagram, be aware that your Instagram password was publicly available in the source code.
Facebook’s algorithm has a lot of different factors controlling who sees your posts, including actually having conversations with others, and including “quality, original videos.”
Facebook’s revenue was up 25% in the 4th quarter of 2019, to $21.1 billion, but they expect the privacy controversies to cut into growth this year.
Pinterest is testing an augmented reality tool called “Try On” that allows users to see what they will look like with specific lipstick colours.
ONLINE ADVERTISING (SEARCH ENGINES, SOCIAL MEDIA, & OTHERS)
Google Shopping Ads will soon be shown in Gmail accounts, YouTube and the Discover feed, starting March 4th. Note that “Retailers have been steadily shifty more of their search budgets from text to Shopping ads.”
A comparison of Google Ads vs. Facebook Ads, with plenty of tips. According to them, if you are seriously considering one, you should probably do both. “When we talk about Facebook, we’re also talking about Instagram, What’sApp, and Facebook Messenger. Google also includes YouTube, the second-most trafficked site in the world (behind Google itself).”
Google’s revenue was up 17% in the 4th quarter in 2019, almost all of it from advertising. YouTube makes more on ads than Amazon does.
ECOMMERCE NEWS, IDEAS, TRENDS
eBay released its 4th quarter results for 2019 on January 28, with revenue down 2% and gross merchandise value down 5%. Amazon’s sales were up 21% for the 4th quarter.
BigCommerce now allows customers to check out in over 100 currencies, integrated with several different payment processors.
Wondering what a good conversion rate would be for different ecommerce pages? Here’s a brief overview of the known stats, with some tips on improving.. (Note that any action can be counted as a conversion, including signing up for an email list, so this isn’t just about purchases.)
BUSINESS & CONSUMER STUDIES, STATS & REPORTS; SOCIOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY, CUSTOMER SERVICE
Are you marketing to Generation Z, or think you should be? Here are 52 facts (with the citations); some highlights: Gen Z has more members than millennials do, and “As of 2020, Gen Z makes up more than 40% of U.S. consumers.” and finally “When shopping online or in stores, 65% of Gen Z prefers to see as few items as possible out of stock” (that last one explains a feedback I received, I think LOL Kind of hard on Etsy when you might have a listing with multiple choices & you only have the one left.)
A study of Cyber Week email open & click rates shows that it might be better not to mention the holidays or discounts.
This article warns consumers of the tricks ecommerce sites use to nudge people to buy more, including some clear examples of deception. “A study by Princeton University and the University of Chicago singled out online clothing seller Fashion Nova, which tells customers that items in their cart “are in high demand.” The problem? The message appears for any item that’s added to the cart. Fashion Nova’s cart also tells shoppers that their items are being “reserved” for 10 minutes. But nothing happens to the items after the 10 minutes are up.”
MISCELLANEOUS
YouTube wants Clearview AI’s face recognition program to stop scraping its videos for content, and to delete anything it has already collected. (Twitter did the same last month.)

It was quite a day for Cait and Tony at Wimbledon 🎾 😘
Yes, Tony and Cait definitely looked like a couple today.
Tumblr media
At times there was little personal space between them.
Tumblr media
And Tony certainly looked animated and like he was having fun.
Tumblr media
These photos appear to have been taken in a sweep of the celebrity audience. Consequently Tony was probably not always aware that he was being photographed. My guess is Tony is one of those people who feels uncomfortable when asked to pose for a photo. The lack of animation that people see in his formal photos with Cait probably has more to do with his discomfort with being photographed. When Tony isn’t aware of the camera, we can sometimes see more of a glimpse of who he actually is.
Of course, Cait and Tony have a long history of watching tennis championships together.
Tumblr media
And then there are the rings...
I’ve been getting questions in DM about the rings. Honestly, I remain confused about them.
Tumblr media
Tony was wearing a black ring on his right hand. Even though I’ve never seen Tony wear a ring before, I at first dismissed it, because it was black and on his right hand. (Tony is Scottish and the Scots wear their wedding bands on their left hands.) However, someone told me that black wedding bands are popular with hipsters. Although traditionally couples exchange similar wedding bands, many couples today choose to have different wedding bands.
Cait has gone back to wearing her engagement ring solo on her left hand. She was wearing a couple of gold bands on her right hand at Wimbledon. However, the Irish  wear their wedding and engagement rings on their left hands.
The double gold bands suggest that neither ring is as large as is typically expected for a wedding band that isn’t part of a wedding/ engagement ring set. Furthermore, Cait has a long tradition, dating back at least since 2013, of wearing gold bands on both hands (although not on her left ring finger, except on June 2, 2019 at the Starz FYC Day).
If Cait and Tony got married but are still not ready to announce it, they could have moved their wedding bands to their right hands, especially when attending a heavily photographed event like Wimbledon.
However, I’m not sure why Cait would try to hide a marriage to Tony. After all, she announced her engagement in People Magazine shortly after she became engaged.
The only possibility I can think of is that some couples have several wedding ceremonies. For instance, some couples have small civil ceremonies and then later have large religious ceremonies. If that were the case with Cait, she might choose not to make an announcement until the larger ceremony took place.
Who knows? Until Cait announces it, I’m inclined to think she isn’t married yet. And I would not pay too much attention to rings--especially Cait wearing gold bands. She has worn gold bands for years and even though it is weird to wear one with an engagement ring if one isn’t married, she only did so once. Unless she does so consistently, I’m inclined to just chalk it up to a one-time odd fashion choice. JMHO

Starting a photography business… how to keep a sane mind.
By no means has this been easy, my current 9 to 5 is with a financial institution that changes processes/procedures almost daily… so it’s saying a lot that getting into photography has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to work through. I want to take a few moments to discuss a few examples of how I structured my plan. By no means do you have to follow this as a guide, it’s simply a few tips I wish I had been given and hopefully you can learn from some of the hiccups I went through! Further below I will dive into each of these further however here’s a quick recap of the topics will cover in this post:
Social media
Organization
Helpful services to leverage
Portfolio
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Let’s first start off with social media. It’s easy to feel that this channel isn’t going to really make a difference in your business including learning, growth, and overall success… but you’d be wrong. Everything I know about photography (outside of “gut feelings”) is from self taught social media. Social media does not hand you the answers, but it gives you great direction to go off and practice until you find that best fit for YOU. Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Facebook, and YouTube are my main go-to’s. Not only does this give you an opportunity to find inspiration whether that be styles/locations but also things that could take you years to figure out… experienced photographers are happy to clue you in on. Often there are going to be demographics that you meet with each source, for example there are some people who just refuse to download TikTok, however you likely could still connect with them via Facebook or Pinterest.
Make sure that when you are first starting out and find a name/brand that you want to build, go through and create an account on each of the above platforms to reserve your name (or close to the name if not available). Whether or not you use each one, you at least want to avoid someone else from utilizing your handle on a social media site- that can get confusing! The other piece of advice I’d give is to get organized. We will discuss this more in the next section, however have a plan for social media usage. This could include ideas that come to you to post, when/how often you want to leverage each account, and tracking what you’ve done on each platform. I’ll provide you examples of what this looks like for me in the next section. To sum this up, leverage social media!
Avoid: setting up social media accounts before you have a set name. I did this before I registered my business, and my original idea ended up not being available through my state. Not fun to go change all emails/accounts and in some cases make new accounts! —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————Next up is organization, and it’s the topic I feel most passionate about. My corporate job has created a monster who loves spreadsheets and honestly it has helped my business immensely. It will be easiest to just bullet point the programs I use, and what I use them for:
Excel spreadsheet tabs
Items to do
Social media ideas
Social media usage tracker
Location wishlist
Shoot ideas
Shot lists
Expense Tracker (taxes)
Folders within external hard drive
Sessions- break down by year, subfolder for client, then within each client folder they have a “edits” subfolder, within that a “social media” subfolder
Social Media- subfolders for created IG posts, IG stories, Pinterest pins, TikTok, marketing, welcome guides, session guides, recap guides
Branding Pack- all the color schemes, logos, fonts that I use for my company brand
Business documents- anything related to registering the business, all emails saved from the state or IRS, receipts subfolder taxes
Purchases- where I keep any items I got from Creative Market (fonts/graphics)
Notes app
Post templates- I keep a note for each type of post I may make during the day, so I don’t have to find my commonly used format/hashtags for each social media platform
Ideas list (for when I’m on the go and can’t update my excel sheet) however I make it a point to update my excel each night before bed
Calendar app (I leverage this to schedule myself weekly tasks). For instance:
Monday- Engagement, check in with people and see how their weekend went, post your weekend in photos and post weekend challenge results
Tuesday- Content creation day for the next week (or more if possible for backup)
Wednesday- Schedule content for the next week (or more if possible)
Thursday- Weekly blog write up
Friday- Photography challenge jar to accomplish over the weekend
Saturday- Shoot as much as you can/focus on photography challenge/work on any extra “to-dos” such as Lightroom practice
Sunday- Shoot as much as you can/focus on photography challenge/work on any extra “to-dos” such as Photoshop practice
Even writing that felt like a lot… and truly it is. Starting a business and getting into the “groove” is NO JOKE. Now image this on top of your regular 9-5, actually having consistent photoshoots, the client management aspect, possibly having a family or spouse, and trying to manage your health both physical and mental. If you have a loved one that is starting a business, GIVE THEM A HUGE and maybe some Starbucks! Again these are not things you HAVE to do when starting your business, these are just items I feel work for me.
Avoid: Having NO organization plan whatsoever or feel as long as you take some notes here and there, it will be sufficient. There is so much information available to us that I would write down pages of information and when I’d review, it was too overwhelming and I would want to quit. Play around with it and see what works best for you!
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Now let’s get into the systems/services I use that have really made a difference! Yes I pay for each one of these, it can add up, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
PicTime- Delivering client galleries on a professional platform and provides them high quality products for purchase (1 FREE month code- M275PS)
Honeybook- online service for client management, helps automate tasks for example “as soon as client sends in XYZ document, the system shoots them the contract to sign”. It saves so much time! (20% off)
Lightroom- Photo editing
Photo Mechanic- Photo culling system that helps me go through thousands of photos in a JIFFY prior to Lightroom importing, works in tandem with Lightroom to flag which photos you’d like to edit, and will import directly for you.
Canva- Program to build social media content, I also used this for building all guides for my business.
Creative Market- online marketplace for creatives to sell their graphics/fonts/templates. They also will have weekly freebies that are amazing!
Avoid: signing up for things before you need them. For instance, since I’m starting out and have minimal clients, I haven’t pulled the trigger on customized accounting or even quickbooks. Once I find a consistent client stream, I will certainly do this however I personally feel confident in my tracking/organization for taxes purposes at this time.. I’m not going to pay hundreds for an accountant before I actually need it. As small businesses starting up, money can be tight, I would really do your research on what you need vs. what you think you should do because you saw it on the internet. Again I am not a financial master, this is just my two cents!
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Portfolio time! This is something that I was so worried about when starting… if I’m just starting, how am I supposed to get clients?! My honest answer- ASK PEOPLE! Ask your friends, mother, neighbor… anyone you feel comfortable working with! Not only does it give you a chance to practice, but they get free photos (saving hundreds mind you). Now, this also depends on what you want to shoot, but when you are starting you really should shoot anything purely for practice. This also helps you really nail down what you want, you may think couples are fun to shoot, but when practicing you find that families are where you have the most fun. The only way to really know is to shoot- for example I have such a huge passion for travel photography, my favorite photos I’ve taken are from trips. However there is no way to constantly practice traveling… I have a job, oh yea and Covid is a thing! I always have a blast shooting families/couples/individuals so for the time being I am throwing all my effort into creating the best experience/product for those clients. Eventually with practice I can get to that “end game” dream, but no one is above practicing and putting together a solid portfolio to show what you can do.
It will be very hard to get any paying client to trust you enough to book, without examples of what your results look like. If you are going to offer family shoots, I recommend having at least 2-3 full session examples you can showcase to a potential paying client. I also found that creating guides that not only showcase your work, set an expectation for pre & post session, and then having a professional gallery to deliver images is HUGE for the client experience. At the end of the day, there are a ton of photographers, but I want you to focus on how you set yourself apart in the experience you provide (this is what clients will remember and share)!
Avoid: Thinking your first session will be how your pictures will always look! Even if you like them, you will find your photography game will change/grow with each client. Take each session seriously, learn all you can, and try to prepare… but do NOT get dow on yourself if everything doesn’t go 100% perfect, as long as you take steps to avoid it the next session. This has been such a learning experience for me, and continues to be each day.  I’m always happy to talk through things if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email or direct message at the below resources. Keep your chin up, it doesn’t get easier, but you will continue to get better!

Social Media & Website
Tumblr media
Cover photo: https://www.whatmobile.net/Opinion/article/5-little-known-social-media-marketing-tips-that-will-take-your-marketing-to-new-heights
Social Media
The world of social media has grown hugely since its introduction to the internet. The first social media platform that was available was a site called Six Degrees in 1997. The boom of social media platform began in the early part of the 2000's introducing platforms like LinkedIn and Myspace. Yes, I know! Remember MySpace!?
More platforms began to arise, and by 2006 saw the introduction of other well-known platforms like; YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Spotify, Pinterest and Tumblr, to name but a few. (https://smallbiztrends.com/2013/05/the-complete-history-of-social-media-infographic.html#:~:text=The%20first%20recognizable%20social%20media,sensation%20that's%20still%20popular%20today)
In a professional sense, social media's idea is to help promote business and showcase creative content; such as photography, music and fitness, etc. As a sound designer/composer, I'm looking to use the following social platforms; SoundCloud, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn.
SoundCloud is an excellent platform for sharing music, sound files and even podcasts. My current SoundCloud pages have been set-up but are lacking content and my updated branding.
Tumblr media
I have researched some great examples of the use of SoundCloud within the field of sound design.
Cinematic Sound Design are a UK based sound design production studio that has created work for major TV and film commercials and share work examples from sound design pieces to musical composition: (https://soundcloud.com/cinematic-sound-design)
Another great use of SoundCloud is by the Tone Benders Podcast team. Timothy Muirhead, Rene Coronado and Teresa Morrow. They regularly host podcasts episodes invaluable to those seeking a career involved in audio editing, field recording, post-production for games, TV and film. They discuss a wide variety of design techniques, game audio, case studies on current and past examples of work within the industry, and so much more! If you are not aware of these podcasts, do so, and make yourself aware now: (https://soundcloud.com/tonebenders-podcast).
Finally, another excellent source of SoundCloud uses inspiration from A Sound Effect’s podcast series: (https://soundcloud.com/a-sound-effect). A Sound Effect run one of the most popular sites for sound effects/sound design on the internet today.
I am currently planning to prepare a monthly podcast series, where I’ll be talking all things sound/audio/production. The first episode from the podcast I’ll be discussing how creativity has affected artists, musicians, sound designers and composers alike throughout the turmoil of a pandemic driven 2020. Having a warm and inviting presence, (albeit on a podcast) will lend itself well to viewers being able to begin connecting with me, and so I can start genuinely gaining a following. I’ll be using the podcast to talk about software, case studies and cool projects to share with my audience. I’ll also be using SoundCloud to share some creative field recording examples. So, people can hear the wonder and intricacies of creative field recording and sound design before being applied or edited and placed within a project.
YouTube is another excellent platform for posting videos about your kit or hardware and even software tutorials. My current YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCceMTWCvRtkGwUBPQz2sEYA?view_as=subscriber ) lacks some serious content update, and update of the branding imagery.
Tumblr media
I’m looking to start planning a series of tutorials/how-to’s to start with field recording and sound design and share some mini-documentaries of projects in progress. Having a ‘behind-the-scenes’ approach to displaying your work will help potential future employers see what goes in all of the hard work before getting to a finished artefact.
My favourite on the list of YouTube Sound Design based channels is, Akash Thakkar ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCr1pdADQRWMks2checkZxBA ). He provides some incredibly fun to learn tutorials, but most importantly (for me) is the amount of invaluable career advice on entering the industry.
Tumblr media
When approaching the potential use of Instagram, I wanted to find some good examples of how other sound designers/composers have used Instagram. I did come across a fascinating blog article.
Five sound design Instagram accounts you should follow. Which gives insight into some of the top sound Design related Instagram accounts to follow : (https://dougieevans.com/2018/02/28/5-sound-design-instagram-accounts-you-should-follow/).
Excellent use of sharing work in progress and a ‘behind-the-scenes’ aesthetic, comes from Robert Dudzic (https://www.instagram.com/robertdudzic/ ) excellent sound design work for movies, TV and games and radio.
Tumblr media
Finally, we come to LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a professional networking platform. You can connect with like-minded sound designers, but more broadly, you can connect with other production companies, directors, and other organisations that require a sound designer or composer's services. My current LinkedIn profile is basic and has a lot of brand updating that is needed. I will also continue to research the best use of this particular social media platform as I am yet to comprehend its benefits fully.
Tumblr media
A LinkedIn profile is more than a small photo of yourself and a job title. The more information you can give about yourself is better for future career employability prospects. Not only that but having an attention-grabbing intro to the profile will make people want to discover more about who you are. Not only this, but having frequent and update to date links of my best work is another factor too bare in mind when sharing content on LinkedIn. Gaining things like client feedback and connecting with groups, are other areas that will improve your Linked reputability.
Tumblr media

Below are the headers for all of my social media platforms. All with updated branding!!! I'm working hard to get some fabulous material for each of these, and I shall be posting as regularly as possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WEBSITE
Below is my current website. I built this within Adobe Dreamweaver CC, but there are several issues with its functionality at present. The email form does not work, the load animation hangs, and there are many discrepancies with the website's metadata. Not to mention the layout could do with a revamp.
Tumblr media
While the Dreamweaver method isn't all that difficult when developing a website, I found I was spending too much time getting silly little things to work and not focusing on the website's content. So, I sought other methods to create a website. Beforehand, I did make a collection of websites that gave me inspiration for my website.
Tumblr media
https://bashooka.com/inspiration/25-cool-website-designs-using-neon-gradients/
Tumblr media
https://www.webfx.com/blog/web-design/dark-websites/
Tumblr media
https://speckyboy.com/modern-minimal-web-design/
With my research complete, the next step for me was to sketch out the wireframing. Wireframing the layout makes my job incredibly easier when placing content during the production of the website.
Tumblr media
Now there are a wealth of website builders out there. Below is a list of some online website builders that are currently available (https://www.sitebuilderreport.com/best-website-builder#squarespace):
Wix - https://www.wix.com/
Weebly - https://www.weebly.com/
SquareSpace - https://www.squarespace.com/
Webflow - https://webflow.com/
GoDaddy - https://uk.godaddy.com/websites/website-builder
I made Wix, my choice out of all of the website builders. It just seemed easy to use. It was finally allowing me to concentrate on my content. I started building the website through this template (https://www.wix.com/website-template/view/html/1714?siteId=1070999e-8eb1-4026-bc3a-ff9e8756fe9c&metaSiteId=e5e72348-6183-4b7f-9e4e-d427696f4111&originUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wix.com%2Fwebsite%2Ftemplates%2Fhtml%2Fmusic&tpClick=view_button). This would allow me to get my content loaded and then edit the position and layout after.
Tumblr media
Here is the current status of the new website. Not a bad effort so far, but some I'll need to make some tweaks to fix points where my site breaks (as you can see below). Which will make sure my website is optimised for all viewing devices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now here's the final result! My very own first 'professional' website. This method will prove far more effective in uploading and showing my work and other content, instead of partially coding a website. It's fun and doable, but I want to improve other areas of my audio expertise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The website's ready to go live now. All I need to do is selecting a hosting package and domain and set up search engine optimisation (SEO).

[Active Case Study] Generating Instant Traffic & Making Money Without SEO
I’ve always wanted to do an active case study and show my readers how easy it is to start a project online and make money out of it without needing to learn SEO.
You don’t even need to have a website to pull this off.
I have to admit that SEO is an essential part of any website, but it takes time and a lot of effort to understand the ins and outs of ranking a website, and it can also be a lot costlier.
This is why we won’t be using any of that in this case study of ours.
Who is this guide for?   This project is for anyone who doesn’t mind making money online on autopilot. Once we have the system properly set up, we won’t be needing to do anything else, except watch how well our project works.
For anyone who has their own product or service, this is one perfect system to reach more customers without needing to have a middle man who’s going to charge you an exorbitant amount for meager results.
How does this work?   Basically, we’re going to find a product/service that sells easily and then set up a system that will drive traffic to the product/service from a platform of your choice.
This is going to be running on autopilot and once we see favorable results, we’re only going to scale further up.
My choice of platform to drive traffic from for this particular project is #Twitter.
I’ll be sharing every process and results in this article as the project moves forward.
I also want this project to get more exposure in order to create a space for exchanging ideas in the comments section. In that regard, I will be using the same system to get more readers to this article.
More likely than not, you found yourself reading this article because the same system found you on #Twitter and brought you here.
Tools required   There are 3 main items apart from your PC that you’re going to need for this project. The rest are optional.
A social media automation tool:     Jarvee     in our case  #Twitter accounts  A product to promote   Once you start seeing great results, you might want to scale up your own project by investing in a VPS so that your project will run even when you turn off your PC and save power. You might also want to get more #Twitter accounts to target more users. This will require you to get a few proxies to use on these #Twitter accounts.
I want everyone reading this to follow along and not wait until this method becomes saturated and stops working as it should.
You don’t need to spend any money right now, just get    the 5-day free trial of Jarvee    and jump on board. You should be able to determine whether it’s worth continuing with it right before the trial expires.
Getting started   There are 3 main steps we’ll need to complete in order to get this project off the ground:
Select a product/service  Getting an automation tool (Jarvee)  Setting up our #Twitter accounts on Jarvee and hit  START .   I will now go into detail about each step.
Selecting the product/service to promote   You can skip this part if you have your own product or service.
For the rest of us who don’t have a product to promote, we’re going to need to work as affiliates of other people’s products/services.
You can do this by signing up on an affiliate website like ShareASale, Commission Junkie, Clickbank, and so forth. The important part of this phase of the project is to pick an item that you believe will sell easily.
You can always choose to go with your instinct and once you realize a product isn’t converting well, you should switch to promoting a different item, until you find one that converts well.
I’ve done a quick check of ClickBank’s marketplace and have decided to test out this product called ‘The Pinterest Business Plan’.
It’s a high-ticket item that goes for $497 which means I’ll be making quite high commission if I’m able to get a conversion.
I’m hopeful that’ll be able to generate at least one sale a day.
You can see from my CB dashboard that I haven’t been using my account in the recent past. Every sale that will be generated will have come out of this project.
Our social media automation tool of choice   If this is the 1st time you’re hearing about Jarvee, watch the short video below to know what it’s about:
Get the 5-day trial of Jarvee and follow along.
Setting up our #Twitter accounts on Jarvee   Once is installed on your PC, simply log in with the email you registered for the trial with, and the password they sent to your email.
When logged in, click on  ADD PROFILE  and select Twitter.
Fill in your Twitter username and password and then click on  VERIFY ACCOUNT .
When verified correctly, it should say  VALID .
There’s one particular feature on Jarvee’s tools that I want to use purposely for this project. This is the  Retweet/Reply  feature that you can find in the  TOOLS  menu.
We won’t be doing any retweeting but we’ll be automatically replying to relevant tweets based on keywords.
Now click on the  Sources  tab and select  Reply to tweets based on keywords .
This section allows us to automatically search for tweets based on keywords and reply to them. It’s all going to be running on autopilot once we’ve completed the setup.
You probably know that we can not reply to every tweet with the same text. Doing that can only lead to our accounts getting suspended.
My plan is to reply to up to 50 tweets with one Twitter account per day.
I’m going to show you how you can create a few lines of text and use syntax to generate more replies from these texts.
Using syntax to generate multiple replies   Let’s create a few generic replies and use syntax to create more. I’ll start with 4 simple ones that relate to the product I want to promote:
Hey (username), are you aware of how profitable Pinterest can be for small businesses?   LINK    I’ve found a really advanced Pinterest course for building a profitable business and I thought you should check it out:   LINK    Most people don’t realize how much of a goldmine Pinterest is for generating targetted leads for their business. Here’s a must-have Pinterest course for anyone looking to leverage the platform for generating targeted leads   LINK    I figured you could use this Pinterest course   LINK     The syntax on Jarvee works like this:
 d will give out a, b, c, d  OR  e
So if you have Hey it will give you Hi, Hey or Hallo
Using that logic, let’s first edit each one of our sentences using syntaxes:
[FULLNAME], did you know how profitable Pinterest can be for your businesses?   LINK     To see how many replies we’ve created from that one text, go to     Sp1n.me     and paste the text. In our case, we’ve just created  24 different replies !
Moving on to the next text.
Hi [USERNAME] I’ve found a really advanced Pinterest course for building a profitable business :   LINK     This gives us  40 different replies !
Hi [USERNAME] Here’s a must-have Pinterest course   LINK      70 different replies  from our 3rd text.
I figured you could use this Pinterest course   LINK     … and  10 different replies  from our fourth text.
Now let’s put all the 4 texts together.
I’ll first create this simple syntax and replace each number with one text. 2
We now have our final reply: Hey [USERNAME]I thought you could use this Pinterest course    LINK
This gives us  144 different replies .
Remember you can always write better and more convincing text if you want to see better results than what these simple ones can get me.
Because this product is best suited for small businesses and entrepreneurs, these are the keywords I’ll be targeting. It should now like this:
You can now click on  ADD  to complete this part.
Next, we’re going to go back to the  Settings  tab and set how many replies we want our Twitter account to perform per day. Once that set, we can now click on START and our campaign will start.
The next update to this article will include the kind of results I’m getting from this campaign.
Bookmark this page so you can always come back and keep track of the progress. It will be awesome to see how well this is working for you as well.
You can literally promote any product or service with this method, or just generate traffic to your blog.
Update   It’s been almost 3 days since my setup was completed and my ClickBank dashboard shows that I’ve reached 567 hops on the product I’m promoting.
However, despite that many Hops, I haven’t made a single sale. This tells me that while the system works, I should probably switch products.
I’ve already found one that’s low-ticket and looks like it could sell easily and will start sending traffic to it before the end of the day.
 Until next time!

I’ll first create this simple syntax and replace each number with one text. 2
We now have our final reply: Hi [FULLNAME] I thought you could use this Pinterest course    LINK

So if you have Hallo it will give you Hi, Hey or Hallo
Using that logic, let’s first edit each one of our sentences using syntaxes:
Hi [USERNAME], did you know how profitable Pinterest can be for small businesses?   LINK     To see how many replies we’ve created from that one text, go to     Sp1n.me     and paste the text. In our case, we’ve just created  24 different replies !
Moving on to the next text.
Hey [FULLNAME] I’ve found a really advanced Pinterest course for building a profitable business :   LINK     This gives us  40 different replies !
Hi [USERNAME] Here’s a must-have Pinterest course   LINK      70 different replies  from our 3rd text.
Hey [USERNAME]I figured you could use this Pinterest course   LINK     … and  10 different replies  from our fourth text.
Now let’s put all the 4 texts together.
I’ll first create this simple syntax and replace each number with one text. 3
We now have our final reply: Hey [USERNAME]I figured you could use this Pinterest course    LINK

Testimonials
Tumblr media
Incredibly easy to get started!
“Fan Page Robot is a very cool system! It was incredibly easy to get started and attach my social media accounts. Within 10 minutes I had figured out how to work it and was already starting to generate content and post to pages and Facebook groups. I am primarily a B2B company so I really liked the ability to post to all my accounts or select just LinkedIn depending on the content I was posting. This system makes managing my social media strategy campaigns much easier.”
— Charlie Harper, Cardinal Business Consulting

Fan Page Robot is miles ahead of anything that “claims” to be comparable!
“Amazing, this software should be required for anyone doing any real marketing, social media or content distribution online. My Hats off to the developer and client support is above and beyond the best I’ve encountered online thus far! The only possible complaint I have is once I started using it I lost all respect for other software developers I supported in the past! Being a JVZoo software buying junkey, I now realize that was all junk! Fan Page Robot is miles ahead of anything that “claims” to be comparable!”
— Star Riley, Author & Social Media Marketing Expert, MyUSA Media
Tumblr media
The support has been absolutely stellar!
“I was looking for a social media management system that included Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google. It’s difficult to find a system that will manage all four. The fact that Fan Page Robot does this plus manages WordPress is an added bonus! The support from this company has been absolutely stellar. They were quick to respond, and sent me screen shots to walk me through what I needed to do. And the content curation feature makes finding and posting relevant content a breeze! I’m delighted!”
— Kim Hillman, Booklet to Business Coach

It makes me look good professionally and my network is growing
“Fan Page Robot is impressive. My Twitter audience is growing daily and the quality of tweets even surprises me at times. My Facebook page makes me look darn good now thanks to Fan Page Robot. The potential to make money with Fan Page Robot is only limited by you. So far it makes me look good professionally and my network is growing. Yes customer service is awesome as well. I felt I must say something here as I hardly post in the forum.”
— Jerome G. Sherman, Warriorforum member
Tumblr media
It’s been amazing!
“I bought this program a week or two ago and it’s been amazing! I spent most of my days on Facebook and only did Twitter once a week. Since using this program the last few days I’ve gotten 20-30 retweets- 30-40 new followers and more. To do the posts I do now on a daily basis and do it manually it would take me hours if not the whole day. Now I spend maybe 5-10 minutes and done. I currently use it for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter… CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN GREATTTTT!”
— Robert, Drone Research Inc.
Tumblr media
ENTIRE week in just 10 minutes!
“I’ve been looking for a social media tool that could do 1 simple thing, post to all of my social media accounts and keep them all organized. I even got so desperate to find a good tool that I started to develop my own WordPress plugin to do exactly what FanPageRobot does. I’m overjoyed that this system does everything that I need it to. I have all of my social media posts lined up for the entire week for ALL of my accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Google My Business, Google+, Twitter, and Pinterest), and it only took me 10 minutes.”
— Mario Salazar, Flawless Website Design

Here’s a must-have Pinterest course for anyone looking to leverage the platform for generating targeted leads   LINK    I figured you could use this Pinterest course   LINK     The syntax on Jarvee works like this:
 c will give out a, b, c, d  OR  e
So if you have Hey it will give you Hi, Hey or Hallo
Using that logic, let’s first edit each one of our sentences using syntaxes:
[FULLNAME], did you know how profitable Pinterest can be for your businesses?   LINK     To see how many replies we’ve created from that one text, go to     Sp1n.me     and paste the text. In our case, we’ve just created  24 different replies !
Moving on to the next text.
Hi [FULLNAME] I’ve stumbled upon an advanced Pinterest course for creating a profitable business :   LINK     This gives us  40 different replies !
We now have our final reply: Hi [FULLNAME] I’ve stumbled upon an advanced Pinterest course for creating a profitable business :   LINK

Here’s a must-have Pinterest course for anyone looking to leverage the platform for generating targeted leads   LINK    I figured you could use this Pinterest course   LINK     The syntax on Jarvee works like this:
 a will give out a, b, c, d  OR  e
So if you have Hi it will give you Hi, Hey or Hallo
Using that logic, let’s first edit each one of our sentences using syntaxes:
Hi [USERNAME], are you aware of how profitable Pinterest can be for your businesses?   LINK     To see how many replies we’ve created from that one text, go to     Sp1n.me     and paste the text. In our case, we’ve just created  24 different replies !
Moving on to the next text.
Hi [USERNAME] I’ve found a really advanced Pinterest course for building a profitable business and I thought you should check it out:   LINK     This gives us  40 different replies !
We now have our final reply: Hi [USERNAME], did you know how profitable Pinterest can be for your businesses?   LINK
