#i dont want it to center around a romance or bromance

i just want to read like 100k+ kagami meta, like just give me a story of kagami experiencing life. all the ups and downs, good and bad, self discovery, being vulnerable while also being strong, learning to love and trust others. i just wanna read smth where his happiness isn't dependent of others but a result of him accepting others and letting them in and sharing those burdens with him, and all of it adding to the already amazingily strong and resilient person he is.
#ru.txt#kagami taiga#im just rly in my kagami feels today#i dont want it to center around a romance or bromance#just him experiencing things#does that make sense#why does he get so worked up when hes got a game#how does he sleep otherwise#what does he do when hes alone#is he consciously aware of his inability to form attachments to material things#is it an inability? or is it a conscious decision because he isnt concerned by material things#is it a result of him losing many personal things in his life like relationships and previous possessions bc of moving around#he is sentimental with certain objects ie himuros ring even after he thought their friendship ended and hed left for japan#he had probably thought hed never see himuro again yet he kept the ring. why#his apartment is devoid of anything personal aside from a few bball magazines and a succulent#did he buy it? does he take care of it? does he talk to it when hes feeling alone?#does he go out on to the balcony late at night when he cant sleep and gaze on the tokyo skyline and watch the citylife#and think of LA and his dad and his other friends#does it hurt him or is he numb to it now#does he ever look to the stands during a game and just wish he saw his father standing in them cheering him on?#does his lonliness keep him awake at night? does he text kuroko or himuro when hes feeling particularly bad or does he keep it all 2 himself#bottle it all up and go to the nearest court to let it all out#are his eating habits because hes big and burns a lot of calories so hes constantly hungry#or is his endless hunger a metaphor for the emptiness he feels and he eats to fill a void#does he get to laugh often? does he get to experience little things that bring him joy or#does he go so hard on ball bc its the only thing that correlates to a time where he was truly happy and accepted and acknowledged#so many questions i cant stop but im gonna cause this tag list is long enough im sorry i just love him

I’d like to call BS on book fans radically changing CQL scripts for 3 reasons. One is that the single biggest plot change in CQL vs book and the most difficult to work in scriptwise was writing in a closer relationship between LWJ and WWX from their first meeting, something that they had absolutely no reason at all to do if their endgame was WWX and WQ bc they could just have stuck with the original plot removing all romance and going for a best friends angle like the donghua did The centrality1
messages 2-10 below the cut, as well as my reply! i edited in paragraphs to make it a bit more readable, i hope you dont mind. @ my other followers, i recommend reading this if you’ve seen the earlier drama with the other anon on my blog and/or are worried about the cql script change that we discussed
of LWJ and WWX relationship to the story CQL writers wanted to tell was clearly something that was baked in from the start, and we even have BTS clips where the director talks about and directs WWX and LWJ as a couple, the ending message about how the team wishes that WWX and LWJ get everything that they wish for clearly doesn’t look as people who were strongarmed into making CQL gay against their wishes.
2nd reason is that a drama has two opposing forces between the creatives wanting to tell a good story and finance people wanting to make the most money on their investments with the less hassle, mediated through the censorship board. The latter two can and will try to affect the plot bc the finance people are risking real money and would like to not make a net loss if it turns unpopular (not all Chinese watchers would want to watch a non hetero relationship) and the censors won’t give you a license to broadcast as long as you don’t comply with all their demands.
Cdramas in the past managed to get popular even with plagiarisms scandals or just like the Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty by adding in hetero love interests and calling it a day, so the CQL team didn’t have to pay attention to the weibo controversy bc fans wishes on the web don’t pay their production costs, can’t blacklist a director from the industry or help them pass censorship. Fans are not their bosses and just have no real power to alter such a contentious decision as the main relationship (even the agencies of WYB and XZ won’t take it lightly that the hetero script they signed for suddenly turned gayer bc of the impact on their idols’ image) if it wasn’t something the CQL team has already decided to do. You just can’t fight censorship policies with hashtags (look up what happened to the powerful Jack Ma for voicing light criticism).
I clearly can’t vouch that everyone on set was behind CQL being centered on a gay relationship, if there were warring factions or what reasons allowed them to go for the version that we have seen, but pretending that no one wanted to tell that story and that MDZS fans making a couple of Weibo posts turned everyone around, without recognizing risks and pains the CQL creatives took in the censored Chinese movie industry to create the series is just plain insulting. As is painting them as money grabbers bc the book is also pay by chapter in China (so a money grab?) and screenwriters and directors are no less artists than writers are, I’m not sure why this is controversial in 2021? It’s just infuriating that people pretend that someone constrained by censorship in what they create is the same thing as someone who actually supports said censorship. (And btw who even shared images and scripts, trying to show that there was an audience for the non hetero version? Isn’t it necessarily people from the CQL production team who were committed to Wangxian?)
The 3rd reason is that what would be acceptable to censors is mostly unpredictable and decided in one go after the whole series is filmed and edited. I have watched a vaguely bromance Cdrama once that even got pulled after release and censored again, so I have it on good authority that they really do remove small bits of scenes here and there, shorten long scenes where 2 male characters stand too close, and well bully for you if you had plot happening there and now it doesn’t make any more sense. CQL being higher budget than other adaptations was taking a bigger financial gamble so it’s not surprising that they had backup scenes sure to pass censorship while hoping for a best case when they would be approved as they are.
They knew that being authorize to broadcast by censorship would be an issue from the start, so what were they supposed to do, just film, send it in and hope for the best, and then make really expensive retakes or just trash the whole series if the censorship board rejected them? Also generally, I’m super weary of oriented and uncharitable takes on events bc there is clearly a subset of MDZS fans that are really angry at CQL fans bc the drama is super popular or loved or idk why and who think that CQL fans don't deserve to be in the fandom and CQL has no redeeming value, so many of their analyses are just guided by spite. Chinese fans theories are also not immune from wtfuckery and exaggeration like that RPS one where WYB and XZ are in a RL relationship and sending each other love messages through the timestamps of their Weibo posts.
i totally agree with you anon, you raise some really interesting points that i don’t have much to add to! most of this was already going through my mind when i was arguing with the previous anon, but i didn’t feel like writing a whole essay explaining stuff to someone who was rude to me, and i think you worded it better than i probably could. especially your point that all fantheories are coloured by their personal biases towards the novel, live action and actors etc. but yes the big takeaway is that it seems ludicrous for fans to have so much power over a decision that could get a show greenlit or rejected by the censorship board.

hello!! i just wanted to ask- i wanna do an ouat rewatch bc CAPTAIN SWANN but its pretty long and i honestly dont care for the other characters/how badly the overall writing was handled.. which are your favourite captain swan eps? anything them centered and i think ill just skip around to rewatch their romance as they did invent romance 😭😭 ty in advance <3
they absolutely did invent romance, you are right about that and i love them so much
UHMMMM as far as my favorite CS eps, here’s a roadmap of what I personally consider key eps in their journey (some of this is from memory but I haven’t done a full rewatch in a while so i’m going through the episode list as a refresher)
2x06: Tallahassee--this is a must-watch ep for any CS fan, and I really think this is the episode that sparked the fire that CS would become as a fandom. It has everything--flirtatious banter, all kinds of tension, deliberate parallels drawn between Emma and Killian’s pasts, as well as their first meeting being intercut with her relationship with Neal (which serves, especially in hindsight, to highlight just how sketchy that relationship was, and why she couldn’t bring herself to trust Killian--because the last time she felt this way about anyone, it ended horribly)
2x08 and 2x09: Into the Deep and Queen of Hearts--these episodes cover the race to the portal between Emma&co and Hook/Cora and while they don’t do a ton for CS as a relationship since they’re still enemies at this point, it lays great foundation for their future relationship development. Plus, sexy swordfight, Hook going out of his way to save Aurora’s heart--he may be a pirate, but he has standards ok--and Emma realizing Cora can’t remove her heart without her permission? Poetic Cinema
2x11: The Outsider--more of a Killian-centric episode, it shows a lot of Killian at his worst but it’s necessary for his overall character arc and I genuinely love looking back and seeing just how far he managed to come, to the point of eventually even letting go of his (very understandable) grudge against Rumplestiltskin.
2x12: In the Name of the Brother--am I including this purely for Emma&Hook banter in the hospital, and Killian saying ‘hey beautiful’ when he’s lying on the road because he just got hit by a fucking car? You bet I am. Also, go to youtube and look up ‘ouat season two deleted scene jello’, because it’s beautiful and there was a tremendous outcry in the fandom when we realized it had been cut from the episode lmao (It’s also the episode that made me start shipping Frankenwolf, which I’m still sad never went anywhere, but they had a lot of potential and great chemistry.)
2x22: And Straight On Till Morning--A few of the episodes in between have some fun minor interactions and flashbacks (and I always approve of episodes where Killian gets one up on Rumple, so 2x15 is fun for me if i ignore all the Neal bits) but the finale is where we finally get a glimpse of who Killian could be beyond his need for revenge. He didn’t have to come back, he didn’t have to bring back the bean and help the town--but he did.
Season 3a: there’s a lot of really good stuff here for Hook and Emma that is interwoven between the A plots of other episodes. I think, as far as half-season arcs go, it’s one of the best (and everything after 4a bombed hard, but I digress) But there are a few episodes that stand out if you don’t want to watch the whole season. (I recommend starting with the premier though, it was a really solid season starter overall.)
3x05: Good Form--this is the culmination of David’s poisoned-by-dreamshade arc, and is also Peak Captain Charming Bromance. Hook not only keeping David’s secret, but doing everything he can to help save him??? Poetic cinema. It also provides some crucial Killian backstory, showing how he lost his brother to the very same dreamshade. Plus, the character development--Pan offers Killian a chance to escape the island with Emma if he kills David, and instead, he saves him, refusing the deal and damn the consequences. Also also? The first CS kiss which drove the fandom WILD.
3X06: Ariel--not only to I love OUaT’s take on Ariel, but this episode has the infamous Echo Cave scene, which involves a lot of feelsy confessions and Killian being the one to tell everyone that Neal is alive and helping Emma save him despite his own growing feelings for her.....IT’S JUST A LOT AND I LOVE IT.
3x07: Dark Hallow--oh man, I’d forgotten about this episode, but it has Killian and Neal fighting over Emma, which may sound eye-roll worthy, but Emma is allowed to tear them a new one about it and it’s one of the few times she’s allowed to actually???? put her own feelings first so I have to include it here on spec
3x11 and 3x12: Going Home and New York City Serenade--these mark the end of 3a and start of 3b respectively, and it has some amazing shit like Killian vowing never to forget Emma and Emma smiling as she replies, “Good.” And then she and Henry are in New York with their memories completely altered, but Killian shows up because Storybrooke is back and in jeopardy, and he helps Emma get back to her family and her home and, much later, Emma finds out he sold the Jolly Roger to be able to do it and it’s just. It’s beautiful ok.
3x17: The Jolly Roger--there’s honestly not a whole lot in the back half of season 3 (until the CS movie) but of course anything named for Hook is a must-watch, and this is where we get the iconic line I swear on Emma Swan--which is Killian saying he’s in love with her before he even realizes it. We also find out just what he did to Ariel, and his attempts to make amends are what lead to Zelena being able to curse him, so it’s great from a character perspective as well.
The next four episodes round out the end of the season, and there’s a lot of great stuff in them--Hook refusing to get Emma to kiss him, but Emma feeling like she can’t trust him because he didn’t tell her about the curse to begin with, and then kissing him anyway to save his life regardless of the consequences.... but the only ones that are absolutely necessary are the final two episodes.
They are colloquially termed ‘The Captain Swan Movie’ for a reason, after all.
Killian and Emma essentially have an entire Time Travel adventure all to themselves, where they accidentally ruin her parents first meeting and have to fix it so that she’ll even be born, Emma finally getting into the storybook, the pair of them dancing at a ball, Killian rushing to save Emma only for her to get out of the cell herself, because “The only one who saves me is me.” Killian saying “I would go to the ends of the world for her... or time.” Finally fixing the timeline and making it back to Storybrooke and Killian feeling like he doesn’t deserve a place at the table so he doesn’t go inside, but Emma comes out to him anyway and finds out he gave up the Jolly Roger for her, the true start to their relationship...... IM CRYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT I’M SORRY.
I personally really enjoyed 4a, the Frozen arc was one of the last good half-season arcs of the show, but a lot of people disliked it so it’s really up to interpretation. I don’t have as many Intense Opinions on this season (except hating almost everything about 4b and the queens of darkness arc), but I will say the episodes with good Killian/CS moments are 4x02 (Emma nearly freezes to death, Killian is desperate to save her, Captain Charming teamwork, my heart hurts), 4x04 (Emma asks Killian out on a real date, he tries to get his real hand back from Gold, things go massively awry and he winds up back under Gold’s thumb), 4x08 (Killian tries to save Emma from Gold’s plans), 4x11 (the 4a finale is just great in general), and then..... it cannot be overstated how much I hate season 4b, but 4x15 is the Killian-centric ep where his past with Ursula is revealed and he makes amends to her in order to get her to leave the QoD alliance and it’s great character stuff for him, and then there’s the season 4 finale.
Both parts are worth watching, if only because Deckhand Coward Hook still being a braver, more heroic man than ‘Hero Rumplestiltskin’ warms the very cockles of my heart, and of course the second part of the finale has him helping Henry to save Emma and it’s beautiful and also Emma watches him die for her and it is angsty as FUCK but gods I love it. Here’s where it gets tricky, though--my recommendation is, turn the episode off right after Emma finds Killian back in the present day of Storybrooke and they reunite.
Just turn off the episode there and skip right ahead to the s6 musical episode (Emma and Killian’s wedding ep) and pretend they got married and none of seasons 5 or 6 ever happened. >.> (Although I will say certain parts of the Underworld arc were incredibly feelsy despite how much I overall hated the season: 5x11 (the 5a finale, Killian as the dark one STILL being a better man than rumple, we love to see it), 5x15 (I am not immune to Brothers Jones feelings ok), 5x20 (emma literally takes a True Love Test trying to find a way to save killian, you don’t get more romantic than that--also Killian telling Emma to promise she won’t put her armor back up just because she lost him again??? my HEART), 5x21 (Hook does what he can from the Underworld anyway and zeus sends him back to Emma, they really just said ‘today I will invent romance’ and then Did That)
And then, yeah, just skip to the wedding. It’s beautiful, I enjoyed the music, personally, though I know musical episodes are hit or miss with most people. And if you turn it off when the last musical number starts (after the wedding ceremony, I believe) you can pretend it was the end of the show! =DDD
.....Oh my god I just rambled for years. I HOPE YOU FIND THIS USEFUL, ANON. I 100% support a CS-centered rewatch, their episodes were consistently some of the best across the entire series, and they are truly one of my favorite romances of all time.

Since i have done this 30day challenge on two of my other pages it was about time I did it for this page, starting firstly with The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Legacies will soon follow I promise.
So if you do not already no I have zero chill and zero patience so instead of 30 days I just do it all in one go 😂 feel free to sound off in the comments with your opinions, open to reading others' opinions and share in the love for this fandom 💖
1 - Klaus Mikaelson 💖 my king, my heart, the unrequited love of my life (fictional ofcourse)
2 - (in order) Caroline Forbes 👑 Rebekah Mikaelson 👑 Katherine Pierce 👑
3 - Klaroline, always and forever 😍
4 - Bamon or Stexi 🤔 although Stexi was definitely a more loyal friendship and I didnt want them together as a couple like I did Bamon
5 - Claire Holt, Love her to pieces, love her interviews and her post and pre TVD and TO work as an actress.
6 - Joseph Morgan, my husband in my fantasies only 💖 fantastic actor who I cannot wait to see what he does next 😍
7 - Daniel Gillies and Paul Wesley, their bromance is both adorable, authentic and slightly homoerotic 🙊😈
8 - Bamon or Elenijah, Bamon id have legit loved to see as endgame over Delena anyday and Elenijah I'd have love to have seen explored at least.
9 - Although neither the originals or Katherine were in every episode they were far from secondary in my mind, so in terms of secondary I'd say Lexi for sure.
10 - 2 and/or 3, most of the originals arc and Katherine stuff was peak TVD for me.
11 - The 100th episode for so many reasons, the nostalgic lookback at previous characters, Klaroline finally getting it on, a Mebekah reunion and lots of Katherine 👑
12 - He is your first love, I intend to be your last 💖 Klaroline was all kinds of epic and how poetic is it that she wound up being his last love💔
13 - Caroline singing at her mothers funeral 💔
14 - Elena, I know she went through alot but who didn't in the TVDverse, she was the victim and stayed within that role from beginning to end and god was she depressing to watch. She was also largely hypocritical with her judgements over things she too was guilty off 🙄 the fact I loathe her and love Katherine shows the incredible acting range of Nina Dobrev though 💖
15 - Stefan, he is like Angel with the Angelus edge, id say the male elena but that would be harsh as he didnt piss me off nearly as much 😂 he was alright I suppose I just didnt care for him that much, if he died early I'd have been like meh! I couldnt buy evil stefan either instead it made me cringe which is weird because Paul Wesley plays unhinged so well in Tell me a story...oh and also Stefan killed Enzo, not once but twice and he can only blame the humanity switch for one of those kills 😡
16 - i did ship Delena till they got together and lost all their magic, i never shipped Stelena but they did suit each other better than Delena or the very ill advised Steroline which should have stayed a friendship! Bonnie and Jeremy made absolute no sense and had zero chemistry so on those grounds id say those two or Steroline, Steroline itches me up the wrong way the most tbf.
17 - Elena and Caroline, Caroline was the better friend hands down for both Bonnie and Elena but Elena always seemed harsher to Caroline and yet couldnt handle it when Caroline gave her tough love back especially over Delena which tbh Caroline was right....IMO anyways.
18 - I cannot say Candice, Nina, Kat or Claire are anything but amazing actresses so I would never say any of them...maybe the actress who played Liv Parker, she was always kind of one note to me although not terrible but nowhere near as good as the others....I could probably later think of someone else but for now I'll go with her.
19 - Zach Roerig, a typical answer from fans I've noticed but he was just so blah for 8 full seasons I totally get why Im not alone here...also so far him and Steven McQueen are the only ones from TVD to appear in Legacies...Jeremy's cameo i didnt mind, Matts however...like when is he going to die and stay dead already? Sorry matt fans 😂
20 - A good chunk of episodes in season 7, didnt like Elena but didn't like TVD without Elena...would've loved the actress to stay on and either play another role or make Katherine come back preferably 🤩
21 - Most of them I started liking then hating, or hating to liking then back to hating 😂 I dont think I hated anyone from beginning then loved them by the end so ill just give a love to hate, Alaric...I liked him in early seasons but thought he came to a natural end when he died...from 6 onwards after he came back he lost any appeal and felt like he was just there to have another dead ex, then to cockblock Steroline which tbf was a good deed but still didnt revive him 🤣 and I full out despise him in Legacies but I'll dig deeper into that come a Legacies themed version of this challenge 😂
22 - Damon wins hands down here, loved him in the pilot, love turned to like as the show went on and then Delena happened and completely destroyed his chracter, Bamon gave him a much needed revival but Elena soon dragged him down once more...his live for her was obsessive to me, unhealthy and toxic and he couldnt cope without it. BAMON would've fixed all this IMO
23 - Okay stick with me here as this one has multiple answers for me...I'd have rathered Caroline or Bonnie as the main character alongside the salvatores than Elena so thats answer one. Answer two would be I'd have loved Katherine to have been the mainstay doppelganger instead of Elena. Answer three would be more flashbacks of Lexi and her life away from the Salvatores would have been interesting. Last answer, Rebekah should have been in more episodes both on this and TO but I'll probs get more into that when I do TO.
24 - The romances, the vampires, the villains and the aesthetic of Mystic Falls 😍 if you follow my other pages you know obsessed im obsessed with the supernatural genre 🥰
25 - Too much time centred around Delena and Stelena, which I know was the main story of this show their love triangle but it didnt have to be...
26 - Elena daggering Rebekah, my heart broke for Rebekah and hardened towards Elena...her biggest hypocritical move of many too!
27 - Heres one so this post isnt all bashing poor Elena 🤣 i love when Elena and Stefan wind up drinking in that bar together having a good time as friends...honestly wouldnt habe minded more scenes centered on this friendship.
28 - Klaroline getting together in the woods and/or the Klaroline moment in the last episode where he donates money to the boarding school...tbh any Klaroline moment 💖
29 - Liz's death and funeral, my heart breaks for Caroline everytime and Damon too, loved Liz and Damon's friendship 💔
30 - Almost all Lily Salvatore scenes, the worst mother alongside Esther Mikaelson....their deaths make me so happy every single time and I will never apologise for that 🤣
