me, a jtbc music survival show and nugu group enthusiast’s time has come!! or it will...once this airs in 2023...................
#the producer is the one from sing again...cant say im a fan of sing again's format even tho i rec the show (1st season)#but it's a whole new series so i'm excited!! jtbc always focuses more on the music side and like behinds process of the performance#so that makes me happy bc that's the whole reason why i watch survival shows like just for the creative processes and cross interactions#this one seems like they're competing as groups the show isn't wanting to make a ''new'' reboot group or anything#so i guess it'll lean close to mnet's kingdom gig?? but jtbc has to do better than that omg that show was.....it was a show i guess#but has jtbc ever done a full blown idol survival show?? all the ones i've watched some have idols in them but the focus is not idols#mostly just unknown/indie/normal people which creates a naturally organic atmosphere i think#anyways i like the more organic artist focus jtbc usually does for their shows so im so excited tryna think which groups would go on omg#but i feel too many groups i knew of are too old for this now but jtbc does pull a pretty different crowd compared to mnet#also their channel audience skews older (that can also be a reason they don't do the drama edits lmao) like the target seems late 20's-40's#so maybe the older groups will come out!! fingers crossed!!#i feel it won't be just 4th gen like it has to have 3rd gen there who knows which gen will be the predominate but that seems like fun#i don't think the stages will be on the scale of mnet and 3rd gen did not have the same performance dance oriented focus#so i wonder how the stages will look what the song choices will be will their be cross group stages despite it being a group vs group show#i think i'm going to have so much to say when more info comes out we still have a long time unless they plan on airing in jan or feb#whatever first half means to them but yea i will be going feral in the text posts#delete#tea talks

more of a rant than a specific question but i saw a video i agree with on how 4th gen keep getting more specialised idols (who already have backgrounds in ballet, modelling, child acting, even former groups like izone and ioi) and less yknow,, actual well rounded idols who arent good in just one highly specific area and i know idols have almost always been middle class/rich kids (parents need so much money to send their kids for training like omfg) and now i feel like by the time 5gen officially rolls in, all idols will just be rich kids who dont even care about music (you can see it starting with 4gen, 1/2/3gen had a few but not on these scales) and i just feel like kpop is going to... break down tremendously, like there will still be loyal fans thanks to parasocial relationships but all the good work 3rd gens are doing by spreading kpop internationally is going to break when ppl see theres not a single bit of passion left and its going to be ridiculed the way it was back in 1/2gen...... theres literally no hope left now for 6gen groups to do well outside of korea and parasocial relationships
i mean, the system is already breaking down if this boys planet debacle is any indication, but i don't think its going to be that extreme. i know this is going to sound like a defense of rich people and it's not bc fuck them but there ARE people who are wealthy that care about and make art. that's literally how the art industry has worked via patronage for the last i dunno. several hundred years. possibly thousands depending on how you want to categorize patronage. yes we will see, especially in the larger companies, some people who make bad art and don't actually care, but that does not mean that the whole industry is going to the dogs. i wrote up that entire post about fifth gen specifically to say that you SHOULD be paying attention to the smaller groups!! that's where the people are that care about making interesting work are!!! my nugu recommendations post is my most popular one for a reason!!! also, maybe this is a hot take but. who cares if kpop gets big globally. literally who cares. they're korean artists, they should care about their domestic market. you absolutely would not say that a pop group from canada should be trying to break into the japanese market?????? so why are you expecting kpop groups to go the extra mile for people who don't speak their language?? is the work that groups do for their international fans appreciated? yes absolutely, i love how much more accessible everything is now, but by NO means are they obliged to do it. obviously i also like to see my faves successful, but it it's at the cost of their artistic integrity like it's been with some groups, or if it just doesn't work, then that's perfectly fine! if i could listen to shinee ripped shinee cds and illegally watch kdramas in 244p in 2008 then i can do it again. and honestly? kpop is not for everyone. the people who are interested in music and performance and who are down to be genuine or even just casual fans will find it, just like they have been for the last 15 years. the industry doesn't need to blow up and go global, it just needs to be successful and supported enough that everyone can get by. companies don't agree with that assessment bc capitalism, but you know that the upper level corporatism of the popular groups doesn't always filter down right? no matter how big the gap between the groups with money and the groups that don't gets, there will ALWAYS be people putting blood and sweat into making work because they want to, not for money. it just won't be 'popular culture' and that's fine.

imma be honest - other than exo and got7 (mostly the 3rd gen bg's) boy groups nowadays aren't really my type. nct used to have an amazing array of songs, so much talent (especially with Mark and taeyong and ten, DONT GET ME STARTWD ON WAYV ARGHHH) but fuckkkk now with their new sound like sticker - it's driving me batshit insane. its just plain not doing for me unfortunately
usually when I hear a song, I prioritise coherence and good grammar, which most songs nowadays don't really have - new jeans, twice and stay c !!!!!!! arghhhh they really hit the nail so well !!!!! ALONG WITH G-IDLE TOO !!! GYU I MISS SOOJIN SO MUCH TBH !!!!! ahhh my kpop era was definitely a little cringy but auahahahah there were so many good memories there! 💗
waaaaah i agree with you on basically everything here wow ! i can't say much for got7 since i've never really taken the time to listen to their stuff, but exo reallyy has a superior discography idc what anybody says ! i've seen ppl compare them to bts and other groups and i'm always just like ? ? no hate to bts ! their older stuff is good ngl, but exo are literally on a league of their own lmao, there's no other way to put it yk.
and aaaaah i def get what you mean abt nct ! ! i've been a sticker + 2 baddies enjoyer since day one lmao but i have no problem in admitting that their discography has def seen better days ! ! nct as a whole has been so mismanaged lately it's insane :/ sungchan + shotaro debuted two years ago and are stil unitless. i think they're gonna debut soon in a new unit with the smrookies, but even then idk how much i actually like that idea bc although i really freaking want to see those two finally get under the spotlight, i can't help but wonder if a new unit won't just make everything worst ! mark + haechan haven't stopped since 2020 between dream & 127 schedules, nct 127 went basically one entire year without a comeback and had what ? two weeks of promotions ? once they finally got one ? i'm not even gonna talk about the fact that wayv haven't had any comebacks since early 2021 and we're still waiting to know if they'll continue as 6 or as 7 or what the heck is gonna happen with them in general. it makes me so mad seeing all these guys with so much potential and talent get left behind AND BY SM OF ALL COMPANIES ! you'd think such a big company would be exactly the one to be able to handle such a huge project but ig not.
boy groups in general but specially 4th gen ones i feel like have been leaning sm towards the noise music lane lately and although there's a select few that do it kind of alright, most of them are basically just making fans drift away from them. that's why i think all these girl groups have been doing so well ! their sound is experimental in it's own way and they all have their own vibe, but that just goes to show that you can do something new that will separate you from others while still producing good music. newjeans got where they are bc their sound was something new, (g)-idle try so many concepts and still manage to do amazing every time, ive, le sserafim, stayc ALL OF THEM have something unique that sets them apart but their music is still good and liked by most people, unlike what we've seen with boy groups yk — they'll have something that sets them apart but not for the best of reasons lmao.
kpop has been so insane lately and i honestly wonder why i haven't given up on it completely yet bc this industry is absolutely too much lmao. there's so many gems in it but companies nowadays only care abt money and, maybe without realizing, all they're doing is ruining their groups. we need more good music, not tiktok tunes and challenges AND VERY MUCH NOT US VALIDATION ! although i think it's great that 4th gen is so focused on making kpop a global genre instead of it having such a limited audience, i also think it's so stupid to have topping on the us charts as your main goal. idk maybe i'm wrong for this but it's just what i've been noticing as someone who has kind of been just listening to kpop and looking at it from afar instead of actually being super engrossed in the fandoms yk

Mary Plays Pokemon Gaia - Part I: the beginning [Reposted from Twitter]
Hi! I'm @miyamoris and this is my blog for essays, let's plays and other more thought-out posts and conversations. To kick off the blogging, I'm bringing my Pokemon Gaia playthrough, styled after forums screenshot let's plays. (I'm not a video person. Sorry!)
I started this playthrough two years ago - it's hardly a long game but took me a while to finish it for... reasons. The first posts are reproductions from the original Twitter threads that I'd rather archive somewhere more reliable. The only thing I'll change is formatting so they flow better as blog posts. It's very likely the posterior updates will look different in style - instead of posting as I play like I did before, I have already finished the game and took a bunch of screenshots to organize while memory is still fresh. This is the first time I post let's plays on tumblr so I'm still discovering what works better.
For those who doesn't know, Pokemon Gaia is a Pokemon FireRed romhack created by Spherical Ice. Right now it's completed up to the Elite Four and thecomplete game with post-game and all is currently being overhauled as a Emerald hack. This hack is pretty popular for getting the exact feel of an official pokemon game plus some impressive technical achievements like perfectly reproducing the Mega Evolution system from gen VI into a 3rd gen rom.
Without more delays, let's begin. Enjoy!
[Original Thread]
let's goooo
-> #maryplaysgaia for my organizing and your muting convenience
Tumblr media
Right off the bat, I already like the player sprite - it's visibly drawing from the FRLG sprite but it's well-done.
Tumblr media
The Orbtus region map - the game seems to revolve strongly around archaeology (the professor in the intro says he's an archaeologist (typed it right on the first try!)) so it's unsurprising to find a lot of caves and ruins there.
Tumblr media
Running shoes before even getting a starter! lovely game!!
I won't do a whole let's play-like thread summarizing every game bit but I'll try to keep threading the most notable game moments and whatever observation I have.
Tumblr media
REALLY LOVELY GAME though tbh I am not sure if we even have gyms in this region
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So for now an iffy lady asked back a book I got from the library, there's a lot involving earthquakes and instead of getting a mon in a lab, you meet the professor in a library.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay this is funny
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The starters are 4th gen starters - this game has up to 6th gen mons and mechanics (updated type chart, physical/special split etc.)
Empoleon is easily my fave among those so I'm grabbing piplup. they tell you their nature right once you chose them too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- there's no rival battle for now, it seems
- you don't see the exact pokemon IVs but they give you an idea how well the mon is faring there
...and yeah I ended up picking another piplup cause those E's were grating me. look, it only took five minutes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rival battles you (another neat sprite) after you talk to the professor and get a bunch of stuff and instructions. which is cool to me, cause I just got a neat taillow.😎
Tumblr media
NOT CALM NATURE COME ON
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay so there's the professor asking teens to help him investigate fucking earthquakes and a subquest about a missing weedle and I just got into this special room with a clefairy boss??
Tumblr media
Girlboss team!
Tumblr media
YOOOOOO
Tumblr media
Ariados isn't too good but I could do a few things with this one in the early game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Early game team: done ✅though I expect a few of these to stick around beyond that.
I just realized I've been writing this thread for nearly two hours and it's lacking a better overview of the game so:
- You're travelling through a region where an ancient civilization was supposedly wiped by earthquakes
- There are tremors happening again now so you're working with this region's ProfessorTM to investigate it. Your rival is very the May/Brandon 3rd gen type of rival (assistant that is pretty chill)
(Thread content will continue on the next post. Apparently tumblr does not want me to post more than 30 images. Ah well!)

hey iris. i have a very close friend of mine who's 28 and often feels like she's being creepy or weird for liking younger kpop groups like stray kids, ateez, txt, etc, and finding the members sexually attractive. you don't have to answer this ask publicly - or at all tbh - but i was wondering if you'd have any words of wisdom as an older kpop fan who writes smut and who's also neurodivergent - she also feels kinda bad for hyperfixating on real people to the extent she does. i try to insist that it's not inherently weird so long as they're all adults - which they are - and it's not like she's making moves on em irl anyway, but being more within their age range than hers i don't think it comforts her all that much. regardless if you choose to delve into this or not i hope you're having a great day <3
Thanks for your ask. My response is kind of long so I'm placing a cut:
I think it would be useful to examine where that shame comes from. If a similar age gap existed with an older celebrity in their 30s or 40s, would your friend have the same view? There's also a consideration of whether one's just looking/fantasizing because the celebrity is flashing their abs and grinding on the floor w/ eye contact vs. truly considering them as a viable dating partner or a fling. I enjoy a lot of 4th gen performers who promote adult themes, but would I actively pursue a 21 year old? Eh, probably not. Most of the ones I remember dating in that age range (even when I was that age) don't know who they are or what they even like when it comes to sex or having a good time. The pressure 20-somethings place on themselves constantly is also a major mood killer.
I haven't written any 4th gen smut, but I'm heavily considering it for both ATEEZ and Stray Kids under the pressure of friends who are also in their 30s and are consumers/creators of fanfic. Why? Because my muses move a lot and I still like telling stories, plus I have biases and bias wreckers in both groups. Many 2nd and 3rd gen faves are either in the military or they're being promoted in a way where I'm extremely bored and underwhelmed. On the other hand, 4th gen has incredible groups who are active, heavily promoted, and showing off concepts that are not only visually appealing, but more in line with the darker explosive shit I've liked since my teens. I wish 3rd gen had taken those kinds of risks!
Anyways, I always create new characters from scratch and then model their physical features and some traits on a celebrity's likeness. That's not because I'm constantly fantasizing that an idol is *my* prince. It's more like I wanted to write a story about a royal and they'd look good in the story. I also like having access to audiences who are looking for short stories to read. Fanfiction is low pressure compared to original works (which I also write). Someday I won't have any active idol muses and then I'll move back to writing literary/movie/video game fanfics like I used to. But until then, I'll keep doing this because it's fun.
As for hyperfixating, it could be that your friend has the same problem I have sometimes where you don't want to let yourself have fun because you feel you're undeserving of it in some way. A lot of people are taught that one must earn the reward through hard work. You suffer first, then get a treat. Neurodivergent brains process that experience differently and can struggle with it no matter how disciplined we try to be. And a lot of us would rather shame ourselves into neurotypical behavior than try working *with* our brain's natural pursuit of dopamine in a safe way.
The chemical rush I get when I hyperfixate on something fun like an idol's legs is the same rush I get from sex, gambling, risky behavior, video games, drugs, etc. I'm not endorsing all those things, but I know with a dopamine deficiency that if I don't give myself some free rein from time to time, I'll end up acting out to get it later. So I have an open marriage, play video games where I do crimes, use online pseudonyms to perform different roles like sexting, and gamble within monetary ranges that are safe and don't hurt anyone. And I take my meds, manage sleep, diet, exercise, etc.
Hopefully this helps some? Honestly, I didn't have a handle on any of my shit until I started reading neuroscience stuff and understanding how neurotransmitters work, where they come from, what happens if I don't have enough to function, and how to get more of each one if I need to. That's how I've managed a lot of psych shit with limited access meds and providers. You have to be your own advocate, always, because you're living with you, right?

Gamer Jiho when?! And Chenle and Jiho on isac together for Pubg and the members finding out how good she is + her archery🤚I need to know the behind the scenes for bittersweet! SeventeenxJiho interactions when? :,)
How did Jiho react to cheek touch boys and history of kpop? And has she interacted with any 3rd or 4th gen groups when backstage or at award shows?
Lot's a' Qs, here's some As:
I really do want to do a gamer JiHo post, don't know what yet, but I'm kinda waiting on the next gaming Huya for NCT 127. Because when they did them with 127, JiHo was still in China and not part of 127 at the time.
JiHo didn't participate for the Pubg event, not even the Kart Rider event. That's also why the boys like to make fun of her gaming skills, because no one (outside the boys she plays with) knows how good she is.
+ her archery: JiHo is very good at a lot of sports, and archery is one of them. (she's just very interested in sports and trains in them for months at a time). The archery moment during isac is probably one of her most underrated iconic moment. The boys were very in awe because of that and their opponents were happy JiHo wasn't competing that time. Honestly this isn't confirmed yet, because I'm still not sure about it, but I think I'm gonna make it so that JiHo has attended all the isacs in which her members played, but she wasn't participating in any events. And if she was, she was in red velvets team probably.
I won't do a whole behind post about the 'Bittersweet' MV so I'll just post a few moments here:
JiHo got asked for the MV through Esteem
Wonwoo was pretty awkward with JiHo at the start of the shoot, but quickly things became more comfortable
Mingyu was mainly laughing because of Wonwoo's awkwardness, so he didn't feel awkward at all
A lot of Seventeen members came to visit and since JiHo does know them a little, she got to talk to them a lot (mainly Vernon)
During the running scenes JiHo tripped once and Mingyu laughed at her a lot while Wonwoo actually helped her up
It was a long project so they got to spend a lot of time together, and while JiHo tried to distance herself a bit, Mingyu and Wonwoo, as well as the members who visited and the staff, tried to involve her as much as possible in conversations and stuff
The three also got food together and talked a lot
I'll do an idol x JiHo interactions post somewhere in the future and I'll definitely incorporate SVT ^^ (in my previous ask there are some interactions with other idols, but I'll do a longer post in the future)
JiHo being biased towards NCT Dream isn't anything new, so she thought Cheek Touch Boys was very cute and she very much enjoyed the History of Kpop stage.
As for 3rd and 4th gen groups: JiHo greets anyone she meets backstage if they pass her. Besides the groups she already knows she hasn't really started conversations with many newer groups. However there have been some new gen groups of which some members have come up to JiHo to compliment her or ask for her to cheer them on. JiHo's a little intimidating to some people and she's usually surrounded by a group of men lol, so not many groups have gone up to her, but when they do they're usually surprised by how sweet JiHo is and how pretty and welcoming her smile is.
Out of all the new gen groups, JiHo has talked to StayC the most. JiHo is like secretly a fan of them, and during the Gaon Chart Music Awards and SBSgayo she talked to them a lot backstage.

hii hope you're doing good!! after those asks abt how the singing ability is almost inexistant in crurent kpop and the fact that now mostly rich kids can be idols, it really strengthens my thought that the kpop industry is way too over-saturated to be interesting. feels like too many young people chase the idol dream without it being their vocation,,, so many survival shows have been created the past few years that it takes away the "authenticity" that kpop groups once had. i don't mean that in regards to the groups that have been created but to this whole system of putting hundreds of people to the public eye, in the sole purpose of making money out of it in rigged shows because kpop has gotten too popular. it just feels too much, too shallow (the whole entertainment industry is tho), too boring. same goes for the hundreds of new agencies that have been created and debut groups they wont won't able to manage. don't know how to word this better, hope i made a little sense
i agreeeee! to add on, one thing the pandemic did too was wipe out a ton of kpop groups that survived on festival revenue and fansigns. the lifespan of the avg kpop group has been shortened significantly, a lot of 3rd gen groups are gone and never even made it to the minimum 7 years. half of early 4th gen is starting to disappear and they’ve barely made it to 4 years, we’ll never see new gen groups reach a point where they can shift to more mature sounds and concepts. in general, kpop now is about how much you can put out and not quality

Jurassic World 1 & 2: Fallen Kingdom
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved the original Jurassic Park; one of those fun "Us vs Them" summer popcorn flicks. The first 2 sequels, however, are better off forgotten; silly, insipid, and uninspired. I lost my suspension of disbelief in the 2nd the moment Malcolm's (Jeff Goldblum) daughter performed a gymnastics escape from raptors, & spent the remainder of the film wondering how silly it would get; the 3rd film lost me at the Raptor waking up Dr Grant by calling his name :p
Jurassic World, the 4th film in the series, marks the beginning of the 2nd trilogy; and while a true sequel, it also serves as a reboot.
It brought back the mindless fun of the original, with great pacing and buildup, and a logical evolution of the story (let's make a bigger scarier T.Rex). Better effects, a more bombastic scale, & good acting all help.
You like & dislike the characters you're supposed to; Chris Pratt once again shows why he deserves to headline popcorn flicks. Bryce Dallas looks a bit too much like a supermodel, but is otherwise perfect as Claire. You root for them, despite his Owen being just as dismissive as every male character in this film is towards her Claire. (The original JP was oddly more progressive.)
However, in all "slasher/ us vs them" pics, there are supposed to be earned deaths, and JW1 screws up a couple. Didn't sit well with me and lost it some points.
In the 1st film, the sleazy lawyer gets (deservedly)  chomped by the T.Rex; Neuman (er, I mean Nedry) who causes the entire mess and tries to profit from it gets his just desserts, and even the heroic tracker's unfortunate fate is met with the dignity of the film's best 1 liner: " Clever girl"
In JW1, BD Howard's hapless assistant Zara, who is only trying to do her job, receives the films most over the top fate. Also, with Attenborough's actual unfortunate passing, they needed a new park owner. They created a character and a cast a likeable goofball who dies pointlessly for the sake of a small laugh. I wish they had simply recast his brother David as John Hammond (or at least his brother).
Despite a couple of plot holes (Why would a T. Rex suddenly help? How could a 20 year old car battery still work? How did a kid repair an old Jeep... Oh wait, Tony Stark must've taught him in Iron Man 3), JW1 is a fun, exhilarating romp. A-, 8.9 /10. JW1 Recommended.
The 3d is also well done, unobtrusive, and most importantly, not eye straining or blurry.
Jurassic World 2: Fallen Kingdom, on the other hand, is so mind numbingly stupid that it hurts to watch. Usually I say the worst thing a movie could be is dull, but in this case that only helped prolong the pain; the action is interesting enough to keep watching, but you'll regret watching it through *unless* you're watching it MST3000 style, simultaneously poking fun at it.
It actually starts of well, with an exciting incident sequence reminiscent of JP1's, but slows awkwardly from there. The new characters feel devoid of personality, & it's not due to poor acting, except maybe in the case of the annoying antagonist. As with JW1, production values are though the roof.
First gripe; JW1 tried so hard to get you to root for Pratt & BDH; JW2 offers little backstory as to why they haven't spoken to each other since then. Second; JW1 firmly established that it was a sequel. Well, JP2 & 3 both revolve around a secondary (nearby) dino island... So why is the plot of JW2 to rescue the dinosaurs to a secret new second island? Why not simply evacuate them all to the nearby already existing second island? Why the heck did Owen stand next to an open gyrosphere with the door wide open and not close it or get into it for what felt like 10 minutes? How did everything near lava not burst into flames?
The biggest gripe, as HISHE (YouTube channel How It Should Have Ended) points out: all the of the greedy backstabbing involved weaponising the dinos, as alluded to in JW1. But instead of throwing a hungry T. Rex into an area you want decimated, or having a pack of trained attack raptors as backup that would easily sense and dispatch otherwise undetectable prey... The genius idea is to train a new breed of raptor that will attack on command a 'painted' target.
That painting is done by pointing a laser sight from you gun at a target; when you pull the trigger, a noise will signal to the raptor to attack the painted target.
Except if you're already pointing a gun at someone, why wouldn't you just shoot, instead of fly a caged dinosaur to a target location; do more work than simply shooting at it. This is suspension of disbelief breaking stupid. It would've been so much better if they'd simply followed JW1's military application plotline.
But wait, there's more! I'd wished they had either cast David Attenborough as either John Hammond or his brother. Instead, they cast James Cromwell as Jurassic Park's co creator (who had never been even mentioned previously); there's supposed to be a deeper, heart wrenching story (spoiler alert): Normally I would find a spoiler free way to present a plot point, but 1) It's obvious (blatantly foreshadowed)
2) & meaningless
3) you probably won't make it that far into the film. My wife gave up watching by this point.
But skip these 2 paragraphs if you actually don't want to know: the moment Cromwell's character says he has a granddaughter he's taken care of since her mom died, you can figure out (shock!) That girl's actually his late daughter's clone, using the same cloning tech. This would've been a big reveal had it been Attenborough's Hammond character, not some previously never mentioned (in 4 films!) co founder's; which is why I wish they had simply recast Hammond using David Attenborough. Also Cromwell (in the poorest British accent since Costner's Robin Hood) states she's the spitting image of her mother. Subtle.
At the end, when Claire & Owen are wrestling with whether to let the trapped dinos perish or free them, the granddaughter frees them because "they're alive like me". Um... Ok. Cause dinosaur clones and human clones are the same thing.
It's hard to believe that they let the quality drop as much from JW1 to JW2 as much as they did, but this is still arguably better than JP2 or 3. Also, to be fair, I couldn't think of what should've happened next either. But then again, I'm not a screenwriter.
6.0/10. C/C-
JW2 Not really recomended, but cute baby raptors are almost worth the price of admission.
Just watched The Meg... And *that* would've actually made a decent sequel to JW1. In fact, since Owen was recruited by In Gen out of the Navy, you could've inserted Pratt into Statham's role and it would've been a proper JW sequel.
