Introduction

So, you want to learn more about soft credit checks. You’re probably a lender or a broker, or work in some type of industry that requires financing for your customers. And, because of that, you want to know your customer’s credit score at the beginning of the sales cycle, that way you know whether or not they would be approved if they applied. Our software delivers you just that, your customer’s credit score and their full credit report using their name and address only — keep reading to learn more.

The Problem

When we first started developing the technology for soft pulls back in 2017 we primarily served the auto industry. And, if you’ve ever financed a car through a dealership, you know that it takes a long time to get a deal done.

When you get to the dealership, you’re most interested in knowing what the potential payments would be for a particular financing plan. Generally, the salesperson will require you to do a hard pull where you’ll fill out a formal credit application just so you can know how much your payments will be. And then there’s this back and forth on the dealership side. You have to sit down with the sales manager, and then he has to talk to the financing guy, and you go back and forth for hours. Only to find out that the payment is not right. Or, you know you have good credit, but you don’t want to do a hard pull, you just want to know what the payments are.

Well, YOUR customers are probably thinking the same thing. They simply want to know how much their payments are going to be but, like the auto dealer, you probably have to have them apply first. It shouldn’t have to be that complicated, right? That’s how we got our start, we needed to help solve this problem for auto dealers on how they could speed up their sales cycle. To help solve this problem, we’ve introduced soft pulls for businesses.

Our Solution

Soft pulls help to bridge the gap in the sales cycle. Now, the customer simply gives the dealer their name, their home address, and the permission to do a soft pull. With that simple information, the dealer can then offer terms based on their credit report and their FICO score but without harming the credit score, or putting a hard inquiry on their credit report, AND without needing their sensitive information.

It not only helps the customer know their payment plan, but also helps the auto dealer. Now, the salesperson won’t have to spend three to four hours on somebody that in the end, won’t even qualify. Soft pulls help you find out at the beginning of the sales cycle, whether or not someone will be approved.

Industries We Serve

Back in 2017, when we were only serving the auto industry and we were doing a lot of cold calling. We were trying to get more deals, and were doing okay but knew that there had to be more people out there needing this type of software. Then, we heard about digital advertising and that changed everything. After posting a Google ad targeted towards auto dealers, we started getting a lot of calls from random companies across many industries — from solar, to business loans, even dentists. They’d call us and we’d ask why they needed soft pulls, and they would start telling us their story.

There was a guy who worked in solar, for instance, who explained that he had a whole team of door knockers in the field and they’d spend a lot of time and resources working on a deal. They’d spend weeks, even months, driving back and forth from a potential job site talking to the customer, only to find out that the client isn’t even qualified. Imagine doing all that work and having it be a total waste?!? Unfortunately, some of you might know this feeling all too well. And with that, we realized the home improvement industry needs soft pulls so they can know their customers’ credit at the beginning of the sales cycle, to help know which customers to pursue.

Or, people who do business loans, they used to have the customer submit a credit report so they could review it and know where to send the deal. But sometimes, the customer would never submit the credit report, so then the business loan people would shotgun the deal out to four or five lenders, and the customer would end up getting five different hard pulls on their credit report. So, this business loan company definitely needs to know the customer’s credit score so they know where to send the loan.

And the list goes on. We’ve found that there are so many different industries that need soft pulls. And they all have one thing in common, they need to know the customer’s credit at the beginning of the sales cycles, to know if they should spend time on this customer or not.

Today, we serve mortgage brokers, contractors, real estate agents, companies that do personal loans and business loans, auto dealers, we can serve most businesses who are lending money or administering services upfront who need to ensure that their client is able to adhere to lending terms.

Soft Pull vs. Hard Pull Difference

You might be wondering, what’s the difference between a soft pull and a hard pull? Well, let’s start by saying, it isn’t the data — hard pulls and soft pulls both show the full, up-to-date credit report and score. The difference is the borrower’s intent. See, with a soft pull the borrower is saying, “if I did apply, would I be approved?” They’re not actually asking for the loan right now, they’re checking to see if in the case they did want to submit a formal application, if they’d be approved or what they’d be approved for. So, by doing a soft pull, you can find out the terms and the exact credit score, so you can get the deal done.

You’ve seen this a lot, if you’ve ever shopped for a credit card online, like on a Capital One or American Express, it says, “get prequalified, will not impact your credit score” and then you put in your information and they say you’d be best suitable for the gold offer or the silver offer or the double points offer etc. In the past, this technology was exclusively used by the big players like Capital One and American Express but what we did was develop this technology and package it to bring to the middle market, to the small businesses and medium sized businesses. Now, companies of all sizes have access to the same exact technology as some of the largest lenders.

How it Works

The credit bureaus create data, and that’s all they really do, they’re data aggregators, but they rely on resellers like us to make technology to serve different niches and deliver credit reports. So that’s where we come in, we provide the software. We buy the data from Experian, TransUnion and Equifax, and we enable you to run soft credit checks through our platform.

We help you to overcome the burden of not knowing your customer’s credit, we deliver you your customer’s full credit report and FICO score using their name and address only. Now, you might be wondering, how can you do that with just a name and address only? It’s simple really, the name AND address serves as a unique identifier, just like a social security number but without having to worry about the sensitive nature associated with that information.

We have an application programming interface (API) with the credit bureaus that enable us to pull credit using name and address only. This operates on a couple of assumptions:

The first being that the name and the address are only associated with one person. So if there’s a John Doe Jr. and a John Doe Sr. living in the same house, then we would need the date of birth or the social security number to access the credit report of the John Doe in question.

Or, if someone had gotten married and they gave you their new last name, we’d need their date of birth or their social security number.

Or, let’s say someone had moved and they gave you their name and new home address, but the new address wasn’t associated with any accounts on their credit report, then you’d need the DOB or ssn.

While there are rare instances (like those outlined above) that would require you to obtain additional information to pull someone’s credit report, the overwhelming majority of the time you’ll be able to successfully access the report using name and address only. The reason this is so important is because people have been trained not to give up their social security number, especially with the rise in identity theft and compromised data.

Benefit of Soft Pulls

Imagine if you’re cold calling, selling home refinances, or whatever it is, but you haven’t built up a rapport with the customer. Before, if you wanted to qualify a customer, you’d need to do a hard credit pull using their social security number but chances are they wouldn’t be willing to give that information because you’re a stranger, right? Makes sense. But imagine it now, with soft credit checks, that customer is going to be a lot more willing to share their name and address to see if they qualify, knowing that there won’t be any negative impacts to them in doing so.

This is HUGE! If the majority of people would’ve walked away because they didn’t want to give their social security number or apply with a hard pull, you can now overcome these barriers and turn them into ACTUALborrowers and ACTUAL prospects. You’re going to convert more leads, plain and simple. Try and envision what your business would look like if you were able to transform all of your no’s into yeses?

We’ve found that by only asking for a name and a home address increases the conversion rate by 300% online. If you’re shopping online for a loan, you have two options, one is fill out just your name and your home address, the other is put in your name, home address, date of birth, social security number, occupation, employment history, and this whole litany of information. Between those two choices, you’re going to chose the name and address application over the other one, right?

You’re not alone, the name and address soft pull inquiry converts over 300% more than the traditional hard pull application. That’s 300% more viable leads and and I’m sure you can infer what that would mean for your bottom line. At the end of the day, the opportunity cost of not having soft pulls apart of your sales process is something that none of us can afford to bear.

How Soft Pulls Transform Business

Let’s discuss how businesses from different industries are using soft pulls. It all starts with consent, you have to get the customer’s consent, you can do that over the phone on a recorded line, online on your website, or you can even use a paper application if you’re in-person with the customer.

Over the phone works really well when you do an appointment setting, so let’s say a company that’s in the home improvement industry is going to send somebody out to a potential job where the client will require financing. With soft pulls. the company can run the client’s credit report, with consent, using name and address to find out whether or not they would be approved. Companies can phrase this by asking if they can run a soft credit check on the customer so they can give them the exact terms and an exact quote.

Now, in order to get consent over the phone, you need a recorded line, that’s why a lot of companies will have the consent clause on a written paper application or digital consent form that can be stored. Capturing consent can be easily incorporated into normal business practices, you can do it on appointment confirmations before you send them out or apart of your inquiry forms or onboarding process.

Businesses that provide refinancing for Home loans, for example, can utilize soft pulls as a lead generation and pre-qualify tool in their email marketing campaigns. They probably want to run a credit check that’s going to show a potential borrower’s mortgage and how much they owe on their home. Well, the company likely already has the customer’s name and home address, so they can send them an email with a “get prequalified” call-to-action button with an embeded pre-qual and consent form. You can simply include the consent form at the bottom of the application and when they click I agree, you’re able to run the soft credit check on them. This is great for doing lead generation. Instead of simply getting a lead from Facebook or Google, you can now generate a new lead and also get their full credit report and FICO score.

What Our Customers are Saying

There are a lot of different ways that companies can use soft pulls depending on their industry or business model. Take one of our best clients, Jason from Capwell Funding, a business loan company. He’s been using our product for years and has been able to scale his business because of it. Before he used soft pulls he had to rely on his client to provide a PDF of their credit report. These reports would come from various credit monitoring sites and could take up to two weeks to obtain from the client.

Please Please talk to me about Maggie Tozier and what she’s like and looks like and what Dilfworth Tozier loves about her and made him put a ring on it and in general how much her two boys love her and how she loves them.

I was looking through my copy of the book yesterday to answer this ask but then I figured, y’know what? Canon can suck it. I tend to beat myself up over accurate characterisation for Richie and Eddie, but they’re main characters, Maggie and Went are not, so the details are inconsequential. Their ages in the Dilfworth fic mean that they’d have a pretty different life experience from their book versions, what with growing up in the 60s/70s, but imo all that matters is that they love Richie and are good parents. Canon is ours now!!!

- my no.1 headcanon rn is that Maggie sings like an angel, and sings all the time. In the car, in the shower, gardening, housework, cooking. She and Went have a pretty good record collection, but if Went is listening to something and hears Maggie singing to herself in another room of the house he shuts that shit off quick so he can hear her.

- I wrote in ithots that Richie busts out into song at the drop of a hat, right? well, where Richie gets encouragement with his Voices through Went participating, Richie gets his incessant singing from Maggie, because he grew up in a household where that was welcomed.

- Maggie doesn’t even notice she’s doing it until Richie joins in, or she turns around and sees Went gazing at her all dopey, and she gets self-conscious

- until Went is like “I don’t know why. You know I think you’re a songbird” and then grins and calls her Magpie. She says stop. He says, Maggie-pie? She throws a dishcloth at him but secretly loves it because she fell in love with how frank and practical he is most of the time, but also how silly he is only when it comes to her and Richie.

- he only calls her that when they’ve had one too many anyway, otherwise it’s all sweetheart, honey, darling, Mags. Marguerite, in Richie’s stupid French Waiter Voice. “Yes ma’am” for when he’s rearranging her guts. Maggie’s the one to call him “my love” the first time, but she said it kinda exaggerated and jokey, and Maggie just doesn’t joke the way Went and Richie do so Richie noticed the way his dad just cracked tf up and was like wow, Mom must be really, really funny

- so y’know how Richie calls Eddie “my love” in the book, and is generally quite physically affectionate? He picks all that up from his parents, watching their example. Wants to make Eddie laugh like that

- for some reason I always imagine she speaks like, French or Italian fluently. I’m stealing @honeyreynolds hc that her maiden name is Avery for Tex Avery, but maybe her own mother was European. She tries to speak French with Richie as a baby/toddler so that he’ll be bilingual, and she’s so proud/frustrated because he’s clearly smart and has a knack for linguistic imitation, but his attention span is just. Non existent

- still makes lil kid Richie giggle by doing exaggerated Italian and making him guess what she’s saying

- I think she’s pretty elegant and reserved and almost shy on the surface with a rly wry sense of humour, so people tend to think she’s snooty, but she’s just... so concerned with keeping the peace and not saying anything bad about someone. Tries to see the best in people. This can lead to a lot of embarrassment when Went is so upfront and medical-frank about stuff or if Richie’s being a dumbass in public, but really she just envies their typically masculine lack of inhibition

- this is because she’s got this killer wicked streak. Maggie’s got a hidden well of scathing diatribes and Went knows it because

- they met on a plane in 1971 when Maggie was flying back to college for her final semester of senior year, and the man in the seat next to her started having an attack of some kind. The stewardesses appeal desperately for any doctors on board, nobody answers. Anyone at all? We’ll have to land the plane! Maggie’s trying to slowly shift away from this man and his spasms without seeming rude when she hears a deep sigh in the seat behind her and someone saying “I’m ethically bound to admit I have a licence in dentistry,” in a voice like he’s in on some joke nobody else knows.

- this guy unfolds the longest legs she’s ever seen and comes to squat right next to her and her apparently dying seat partner, she notices he’s nice looking and keeps glancing at her, there’s banter. Eventually he shrugs and is like “imo this man has a bad case of wind.” And Maggie just TEARS Went a new one like oh nice diagnosis DOCTOR DENTIST where’s your seatside manner?!?! what kind of name is WENTWORTH anyway! and Went’s like 👀😳😍 and then the dying man lets out a giant fart and Maggie recoils, all her pretty poise and indignation turning to base disgust and Went bursts out laughing and offers her the seat next to him

- turns out his first residency is in the next town from Maggie’s college. She’s only dated preppy meatheads before who only ever tried to flatter her and stopped listening when she talked about her music theory degree or the books she likes. But Went always grins and side-eyes her and cranks the volume whenever Maggie May comes on the hits station, because then she’ll whack him with a book. She’s so SWEET he loves goading her into releasing some more of that plane rage, like one day she’s prowling on the edge of a rant about her TA and trying to be reasonable. Went’s like, do it. You’ll feel better. So she fuckin rants her head off for ten minutes until her hair’s all dark and wild like an Arthurian queen and she looks over at Went reclining all impressed on her dorm bed and he’s like. I have never been more in love in my life. Can you sit on my face and make fun of my name again

- so yeah they’re both like, quietly distinguished and outwardly calm model citizens of Derry but in private Went is the fuckin roastmaster and is Maggie’s outlet for frustration whenever housewife suburbia gets too much

- I always picture her as having dark and quite curled hair, sort of Lauren Bacall eyes, and she’s probably tall too. Like 5’8 to Went’s 6’0 or 6’1 which is why Richie turns out to be 6’2 lmao. A family of giants. Honestly the whole time I was writing the Dilfworth fic I was imagining Mary Elizabeth Winstead, that’s my early-30s Maggie that Went is so excited to come home he’s stocking up on condoms. God I bet she’s got some of those single dark beauty mark freckles on her stomach 🥵 Wears hats with big brims. Sundresses. Secretly likes to pretend she’s on a mysterious trip to Rome as she sits in the park watching Richie catch dragonflies. Maybe when she’s older and Richie’s a teenager she looks kinda like Olivia Williams, bc I’ve had a big milfy thing for her ever since she was the mother in the 2003 Peter Pan.

- most kids in Derry have a crush on either Richie’s mom or dad or both and this is unfortunately quite damaging to his self esteem, even though Maggie INSISTS he’s just so handsome. She hates seeing him so insecure

- she tried pot once in college and hated it. The only times she comes close to getting hammered is on book club wine because it’s the only way she can get through them asserting the female orgasm doesn’t exist, then she comes home mildly tipsy and joins in on Went and Richie’s raucous game of cards

- felt a bit left out when Richie was small, with how well Went was able to go along with the silliness. Went sees this and gets Richie to make up a game where she’s Queen Margaret of the Tozier Court and made Richie a knight. They all spoke in bad Medieval Voices all afternoon, and it becomes one of those super long-running family jokes, and Maggie still feels all happy inside whenever Queen Margaret comes up

- ruthless decision maker!!! She had to be, because Went’s so laidback he’s horizontal and is always like “idc what we do as long as you guys are chill” and Richie can’t concentrate long enough to pick what colour gumball he wants, so she has to be staff sargeant. They go to Disneyland and she’s like C’MON BOYS HUP HUP HUP and Went’s like “oh cripes son we’re being hustled!!” but they love it as much as she loves them doing what she says

- great cook because of her indeterminidely Mediterranean mother.

- she genuinely wants to understand Richie’s strangeness but is also stumped as to what to do to bond with him, since she can only think of things she’d do with a daughter. She WANTS to brush Richie’s curls and bake with him but she thinks he wouldn’t like it, so they stick with singing. Is delighted when Eddie very politely and very intensely asks for her help making Richie a birthday cake. She sees how different they are together, and remembers Richie coming home at 5 years old declaring he was gonna marry Eddie Kaspbrak when he grows up, and she thinks... well, if I must have a son-in-law, I would love this one as much as I love my son.

hi sweetpea!! 💙first of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SENDING THIS IN!!! i love that anyone wants to talk about a character that i creates and it warms my fuckin heart🥺 also, i know this is old so hopefully you’re still around :))) i had to flesh it out a little bit because i’ve never concepted clara grace as a teenager really. i turned this into a concept/blurb?? if that makes any sense! also, i’m sorry i can’t do the read more feature because i’m currently on mobile 🤦🏻‍♀️ I LOVE YOU SO MUCH THO AND HOPE YOU HAVE THE BEST NIGHT.

• okay, first of all, contrary to popular belief, clara is super naive and always sees the good in people. she doesn’t believe that anyone has bad intentions really and that’s a major flaw of hers in addition to her stubbornness. both her optimism combined with her hardheaded personality frequently lead to heartbreak.

• a lot of the boys she has crushes on are players but clara thinks they’re all just really nice and misunderstood.

• ethan does not react well clara grace dating in the first place, but he becomes even more resistant when she sees the fuckboys she’s interested in. ever since clara “hung out with” hunter mckinnon (ethan is the coach for the HS lax team and knew hunter was a dick—he rode the bench and still talked like he was the king shit) and he “was at a dentist appointment” for several hours when he was supposed to be going to the movies with clara ethan‘s protectiveness goes into overdrive. ethan doesn’t think he had ever been more furious when he sees her crying over it.

• therefore, after that incident ethan becomes more protective of clara grace than ever; every dude on the team who even looks at his daughter for a second too long is costing the team suicides.

• ethan doesn’t trust anyone clara brings home, especially with how innocent she is. like i said before, clara grace assumes the best in people and that combined with her stubbornness is a tough combo, especially since she usually insists on finding out people’s true intentions herself.

• clara gets in trouble a lot but it’s because she has such a good heart that she truly wants to go above and beyond for everyone in her life/things she cares about and she will not take no for an answer.

• clara grace is just so passionately caring and sweet to everyone, so she goes for the bad boys ethan is baffled.

• NOW FINALLY: the date. this is clara’s first official date and ethan wants the guy to come in the house but clara tries to brush it off as no big deal.

• “nope, i wanna see this guy’s face, peanut.”

“why? i can show you his instagram?”

“i need to see any and all identifying characteristics in case i need to post a wanted sign.”

“dad! c’mon, you’re so dramatic—he’s really nice, you don’t need to do that.”

“if he’s really nice he’ll come in here so i can get a good look at him.”

• clara tries to sneak out the front door when the kid texts that he’s here but ethan catches her and waves at him. ethan makes clara text him and ask him to come inside.

• “clara grace, you better have him come in here right now or you’re not going anywhere.”

“dad, please don’t call me that, no one calls me that anymore.”

“call you what?”

clara sighs, “you know... clara grace! it’s just clara now.”

ethan’s heart sinks because he loves her full name; thinks it’s the prettiest name in the world. big name for a big personality is what he’s always said. “but it’s your name...”, he tries to reason, his eyes wide as he puts his hands on his hips.

“c’mon dad, it’s embarrassing.”

ethan isn’t usually sensitive to what clara says when she’s being sassy, but this one hurts, mainly because he’s the one who named her. he can’t believe his little peanut is getting to be so big that she doesn’t like the name that he’s been calling her since before she even existed.

• naturally, when the dude gets there, ethan is giving him the third degree:

“what’s your name?”

“jake. s’nice to meet—.”

“what’s your last name?”

while jakes hand was originally extended, he immediately retracts it once he’s interrupted. “wellington.”

ethan nods, noting the last name in his head. “great,” he says flatly, eyes narrowing as he sizes him up. “where are you two going tonight?”

jake swallows the lump in his throat, shifting on his feet, “just to the movies and to get frozen yogurt.” clara is rolling her eyes behind her dad’s back, arms crossed over her chest.

“that’s all, right?” jake nods trying to say as little as possible. “no stopping in parking lots, no hanging out at overlooks, no ‘walks’ on the beach?” ethan’s tone is stern; he wants to make sure there is absolutely no suspicious behavior on this date. he doesn’t care if he’s humiliating clara, her safety will always be his number one priority.

“no, mr. dolan,” jake shifts on his feet, not even attempting to make eye contact with ethan.

“alright, you go to the movies, then to frozen yogurt and straight home. gotta be back by 10.”

clara’s mouth is of course falling open, “dad, you’re not serious.”

“oh, i am very serious.”

• the date goes fine, only clara never goes out with him again. jake texts clara and says that her dad was “too much.” while clara grace mopes around about it for a few days, she’s secretly glad because she knows all jake wellington wanted was a make-out and third base when she hasn’t even gotten her first kiss yet.

• over time, ethan feels guilty bc he hears that girls date guys like their dads and all clara grace does is crush on fuckboys.

•but y/n tells him it’s just clara being clara with her, “fix-it” tendencies.

• ethan and clara finally hash this out when clara goes to a bonfire with some of her friends. when she gets there she sees that there isn’t a sober person in sight. after hanging out for a few hours and watching her friends throw back shots, she contemplates texting her dad to come and get her.

• eventually, clara does text ethan saying “can you come get me please?” sending him her location. ethan is so amped she trusted him enough to text him when she prob was lowkey afraid that he’s immediately jumping off the couch, and swiping his keys off the table, leaving a confused danny in front of the TV.

• clara can’t wait for her dad to come get her; she wasn’t having fun and while she knew ethan wouldn’t be THRILLED she was surrounded by drinking, she knew he’d at least be happy she called him. also, clara is starting to get super upset at the fact that the boy she’s talking to, jack tierney is not only sloshed and trying to feel her up in front of everyone, his hand on her back sliding lower and lower, but he’s also seeing right through her act when she says she “doesn’t feel good” and says she’s gonna “have her dad come pick her up.”

he’s sneering, “god, you’re so fucking annoying, you’re literally incapable of not being uptight for one second, aren’t you?”

clara’s heart drops and a lump forms in her throat. “um, no, i just—i have a headache, s’all.” normally bubbly clara immediately retreats into herself, guards going up, and shyness evident.

“whatever, s’not worth the bullshit anyway. have fun with your dad,” he mocks, snickering as he swigs back the handle of absolut in his grip. clara’s friends all watch in dismay, their eyes wide as they watch the exchange. thankfully, ethan texts ‘here’ just as clara is about to let the tears fall, and she’s speed walking away from the bonfire as quickly as she can.

• as soon as clara hops in the car ethan is poking her with questions, trying to get intel on her night. the whole time shes choking back tears with her one word replies. the entire ride ethan is shifting in his seat with worry—usually clara chats her head off about her day, but she’s suddenly radio silence? he knows somethings up. when ethan pulls into the driveway he’s finally whispering to her, “peanut, whats wrong?”

• as soon as the word ‘peanut’ comes out of his mouth, her face just crumples because she’s so embarrassed, she’s immediately sobbing, “no boys will ever like me, dad. all i do is annoy them and embarrass myself.”

• she’s choking all this out into ethans chest and he’s just rubbing circles into her back, stunned that she’s this upset and she held it in. usually clara is very upfront with her emotions; very much a heart on her sleeve kind of girl, but the whole car ride she was practically silent.

• she tells him how she was uncomfortable because everyone was drunk and she wasn’t so she wanted to go home, but she told everyone she didn’t feel good as a cover.

• “all my girl friends were nice and said bye but jack was just—just so mean, dad.” ethan is immediately tensing at the name. clara had brought him over a few times to hang out and ethan immediately couldn’t stand him as soon as he saw him pull up with a juul in hand. clara tells her dad how jack was drunk and said she wasn’t worth the bullshit and that she was fucking annoying (she doesn’t even censor herself she’s so upset and she usually does, especially around her dad).

• as soon as he hears this, his grip gets immediately tighter because he’s FUMING at how cruel these kids are to his little girl. his jaw is clenching over how awful these boys are to her and he is dumbfounded at how his perfect daughter repeatedly gets treated like shit when there’s no one more perfect and sweet and kind.

• ethan is at a loss of words for a bit because he still can’t even believe that this is happening to her; she’s his first baby, his most sensitive baby, and he can’t help but feel like he failed her in a way by not being protective enough. even though, some would argue he was definitely mildly overbearing.

• “clara grace, baby, you’re the best girl i know. those boys don’t even know what they’re talking about; you’re so beautiful, and kind and—.”

“but all i do is annoy them, daddy, none of them like me. i’m gonna be alone forever,” her voice cracks at the last part. part of ethan wants to smile at how dramatic she’s being, but the other part of him wants to cry for her harsh criticisms of her personality. her bubbly innocence is what made her her. anyone who couldn’t stand that wasn’t worth shit in ethan’s book. she would always be his little girl and just as amazing as she was when he held her for the first time in that little pink blanket.

• “oh my pretty girl, you are far from annoying. honestly, every boy you’ve brought home hasn’t been able to hold a candle to you. i’m not just saying this because i’m your dad, i’m saying this because i know you; you’re too good for them. you’re so much better than you’ll ever know, and they don’t deserve someone as kind and sweet as you, okay? screw them, alright? you’re not annoying, and i don’t want you to listen to a goddamn word of what that kid said tonight. you listen to me: you are so smart, funny, caring, clever, sensitive and beautiful, so, so beautiful. screw that kid, he doesn’t deserve you, clara grace, doesn’t deserve a bit of you. ” ethan’s lips are pulled into a pout as he rambles, still in disbelief at the slander of the teenage boy.

• clara is still lightly sniffling in her dads arms. “is that an order?”

“yes, you have to listen to me. m’your dad.” ethan’s hands have taken to stroking her hair softly now.

“okay,” she sighs, lightly giggling into his chest as he rests his chin on top of her head.

of course, in typical ethan dramatics, he just can’t let it go, “now, can you stop crushing on such jerks? you’re breaking my heart here, peanut.”

Sidecharacters - Batman: Arkham Asylum (Part 2)

Welcome back to the weekly list of ‘guys that happen to be alive to talk to, only to die soon after’! That’s right. For yesterday’s stream we (or well Lanani since she had the controller and stuff) talked to every. single. character (mostly guards, but also some Doctors) there was, and i think one of Lanani’s opening lines was ‘yeah, most of them probably will be dead when we’re done here’ - or something along those lines. It does seem to be true. Warning: (minor i guess) spoiler for Batman: Arkham Asylum, also again a long post (under the cut), and tw: death (who is suprised? I’m not. It’s Joker.)

GUARDS WE TALKED TO (who are most likely dead):

‘Arson’ Alan - he was saved by Batman before when Two Face was about to burn half his appartment (building probably) down. Hence the Arson. Fire and stuff.

Louie Green - was actually named like this by the Game itself (or well, the developers yk). Out of Spite we nicknamed him Backup Brian though. Fun Fact: Backup Brian only asks for Backup AFTER Batman tells him that he and his men would be safe there. (...look at the bold line above. Not so funny fact anymore.)

Bragging Brian - he is overconfident and claims that the Island (ARKHAM ISLAND!!) is safe (Again, ARKHAM ISLAND!) and that Joker won’t get through there. I headcanon he is a rookie fresh from whatever academy he is from.

History Hugh - paid attention to the history lessons about Arkham every member of Staff (Guards or others too i guess) have to sit through, and wishes he had not. I headcanon he is older than Bragging Brian; he also sounds more weary/cautious, though maybe that is connected to the history lessons. Both he and Bragging Brian are Guards to the entrance of the old pump station (where 8 workers commited suicide, as Hugh tells us).

Charlie - a sane guy as far as i can tell, who wonders why they are still on the island and that they should leave. He still stays on his assigned position and does his duty instead of running away. I can’t tell if i admire him for that or if i should pity him/be sad in his behalf.

Dog Daniel - because, and i quote: ‘Someone should just put him [the Joker] down like a dog. Stop the Joker once and for all.’

(experienced) Ethan - experienced, because he once spent 30 minutes in front of Joker’s cell and frankly said haid enough of him for, like, forever. Apropros frankly:

Frank - because he is very frank and upfront and honest to Batman, telling him to his face that he did not think the Myth Batman to be true.

Good Luck George - wished Batman good luck; though tbh he tried to save himself with this, because he was very relieved once Batman said that George did not need to go with him (for help or whatever) and George just let out a relieved ‘Good’ and then corrected himself to ‘uh, i mean good luck’

Silent Sam & Silent Shaun - Guards to the (botenical) garden. Silent because Batman can only talk once to them. Headcanon: They are probably pretty stoic.

Inquiering Ike - asking a lot of questions

Joe - concerned about Batman’s health. I wonder if Alfred ever hears about this and just. Let’s his mustache twitch smugly or something because ‘even the Arkham guards worry about your health, Master Wayne.’

Concerned Kenneth - also called Ken or Kenny. He is worried about his pals.

massaker Martin - (i honestly do not know what to write here, sorry)

shocked Nick - he is shocked about the death of his good friend Jackson

Jackson - definitely dead, definitely named by the game (developers), he will be missed (even though nobody has an idea who exactly he was; which is a shame, i think)

Observant Oliver - watching out and giving information. He also says that 15$ per hour are not enough payment for situations like this (referring to the Joker and his breaking out and Blackgate inmates)

Gordon - first name is still up for debate; the name was chosen because this guard was used as Commissioner Gordon. Or. Well soemthing like that; it was more like Bruce/Batman was under fear gas influence and thought this dead guard was the Commish. For the extra dose of sad irony we agreed to call this dead guard (who was exactly that when Batman got out of the fear halluzinations) Gordon too.

as stated before, all of these guards are probably dead.

DOCTORS (because it is Arkham, and what would Arkham be without it’s Doctors):

Doctor Fine and Doctor Howard - we never saw their bodies, but i think they are dead. Why else would Joker announce their names through the speaker system.

Doctor Kellerman - he waas saved together with Aaron Cash by Batman from a death by laughing gas

We’ve been lied to. Myself included. What does society teach us to do?Live the American Dream, right?

We get an education (for much longer if we’re doctors), work 40+ hours a week for 35+ years then retire and HOPE we’re healthy enough to enjoy it all withOUT running out of money.

Sounds more like a Nightmare on Elm Street rather than a dream!

Who wants to live like this?

Why is the American Dream supposed to be what we’re striving for?

The good news is that you don’t have to follow everyone else’s dream. If you want to be normal, and normal is middle-class and broke, then by all means keep on going.

But if you’re ready for a CHANGE then read on….

Trading Time For Money

It didn’t take long after starting my practice to realize that trading time for money was for the birds. Especially when I wanted to spend the majority of my time watching our two boys grow up, compete in sports, attend their school outings, etc.

Since when was there a rule that said we always have to work like this?

To me, this is one of society’s biggest hoaxes.

I once heard a story about a 90 year old bed-ridden billionaire that wanted to give all of his money to a 25 year old in exchange for his youth.

The younger fella declined by saying, “What’s the point in having all of the money in the world if you can’t enjoy it?”

The old man could NEVER get his time back but could ALWAYS make more money.

Time is our #1 commodity and all the money in the world can’t replace that fact.

Time Limited

As a doctor, whether you realize it or not, your income (active) is limited by time.

Congratulations! This puts you on the left side of Kiyosaki’s CashFlow Quadrant as either:

an employee (you have a job) or

self-employed (you own a job)

This means that you HAVE to get up each morning, put on scrubs, treat patients and trade time for money which will ALWAYS limit your income.

Reread that again…especially the last part.

If you continue to practice like this then your income will always be limited.

Let’s break this down for you:

Each day, God only gives us 24 hours to do what we need to do.

Sleep: We all need to sleep and most of us need 8 hours.

Commute: If you live in a metro area then the average commute is one hour each way = total of two hours per day.

Eat and chill: After a hard day treating patients, it’s time for a little R&R with the family and friends (grilling and chilling). This usually will take up around 2-4 hours per day.

After subtracting out these hours, we’re now left with 10-12 hours to trade our time for, you guessed it, income.

But keep in mind that no matter how much your time is worth to you in your current situation, there will ALWAYS be a cap imposed on you.

And that cap is TIME.

3 Steps To Stop Trading Time For Money

More than likely you ONLY get paid if you show up to work. I’m in the same boat too but have a game plan out of it.

Do you have a game plan?

If not, then let’s get you started on one NOW.

#1 Mindset shift

There’s a reason why one of the best selling investment books of all time has the word “Think” in its title.

If you’ve read Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” then you understand why.

Hill interviewed the richest of the rich in the early 20th century including:

John D. Rockefeller

J.P. Morgan

Henry Ford

Many of the traits that led to their success originated via a mindset shift FIRST including:

Desire – They WANTED success; they didn’t wish for it

Imagination – Hill claimed that, “Whatever the mind can conceive and belief, the mind can achieve.”

Decision – The #1 cause of failure is LACK of decision making. You must decide specifically what you want first before proceeding.

Start off by replacing the beliefs that you MUST trade time in order to get money. Once you do this then you’ll begin to open up your mind to other possibilities that exist.

I don’t remember studying anything in college or dental school that said: “in order to make a certain amount of money $X, I had to work Y hours.”

Realize that there’s other ways of making more $$ which do NOT include working extra hours, getting a second job or seeing more patients.

No matter what career stage you’re in (recent graduate or seasoned professional), you have the ability to make small mindset shifts to begin transitioning away from trading your time for money.

Make it a point to change your thinking about wealth today.

Wealth accumulation is not about having money, it’s about having options.

Money gives you the option to do whatever you want, on your own time. Not somebody else’s.

That’s financial freedom.

#2 Be the best you can be

Focus on doing what you know (do) best. For most reading this, your skill could be dentistry, medicine and/or surgery.

To help free up trading time for money, you have to make dollars at first. The MORE you make, the quicker you can achieve this goal.

How do you do this? Become THE Authority/Expert in your field.

If you’re a dentist/dental specialist, become THE Dental Implant Authority.

If you’re a cardiologist, become THE Stent Guy.

How do you become an authority? Focus on what value you can provide for your patients.

Education is the key.

When you think of theme park, what’s the first one that comes to mind? Disney, right?

They strive to give their guests a memorable experience by providing an unbelievable amount of value during your visit.

Focus your efforts of doing whatever it takes to be the best at your God-given talents. If your state only recommends that you take 30 hours of continuing education a year, don’t do the minimum, double it instead.

People like to feel like they’re important. Make them feel this way and you’ll be amazed at what that can do to your business.

Have you ever stayed at a Ritz-Carlton, Montage or Four Seasons? If not, then I give you permission to treat yourself and then understand what it means for someone to make you feel important.

We love visiting the Ritz Carlton at Bachelor’s Gulch. We started going on an annual basis ten years ago.

Why? They make us feel important.

The morning during our first visit, we went to the downstairs ski concierge searching for our skis and poles that we rented the previous day.

He told us, “No problem, follow me.” He walked us to within 20 yards of the ski lift where he’d placed our skis on the ground with the poles next to them.

Talk about customer service!

We’ve never forgotten that moment and is one of the reasons we go back each year. It’s the little things that matter and can be so easily replicated in any business.

#3 Start learning about passive income and take action

You’re off to a great start with this step as you’re already here now, beginning the learning process.

Nobody is going to do this for you but YOU.

You first have to choose the route you want to go to help you stop trading time for money.

For me it was passive real estate.

There’s other options out there such as:

index funds

dividend stocks

starting a new business

Once you pinpoint the route you want to take, then it’s time to develop a game plan.

How much money do you need to move away from trading time for money?

The best approach to this is by working backwards until your plan comes together.

But the key factor in all of this is you MUST develop passive income streams so you can get off the treadmill. Work MUST be done upfront so you can make the changes later.

Creating passive revenue streams is not a passive activity. Passive revenue streams take a lot of work and sacrifice up front, BUT when you DO build them right, they can generate you income for days, weeks, months, even years to come.

It’s not easy, but what is?

Start the process by planting seeds today, so you can harvest freedom for your life later.

“Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” – Ecclesiastes 11:6

Active income is not scalable. Passive income is!

Hopefully I’ve gotten you to start thinking differently about your future. Especially about a future that will allow you to claim back your most important resource: your time.

Start out by writing down what you’re hoping to achieve. I just got off the phone with a brilliant ENT surgeon out of North Carolina.

I would llike to get people's input on this and maybe some insight into better understanding a way ahead. First let me say that my question is not based on politics I'm not representing democrats or republicans as a matter of fact politics and money is what is frustrating me with this entire health care issue. I hear about all of this debating and I want to ask what is the real issue that everyone cares about correct me if I am wrong but I think it is access to dependable and reputable healthcare. The next issue I have, Is it wise to put health care interests in the hands of for profit enterprise. Now this is not an attack on health insurance companies but it is a question to the average person. I have read countless stories of people who thought they had good insurance for years all of the sudden they get sick the insurance pays the lowest possible cost and then cancels their coverage. Or here is another example, former health insurance employees tell of how draconian the companies are that they have worked for when it comes paying for coverage they would rather cancel people's policy. I am forced to wonder how long will it be before doctor's and nurses will be required to have an M.B.A. as a prerequisite for practicing medicine. I am all for free enterprise but something just does not sound right when you have an entire industry based on the soaring cost of healthcare and people's inability to pay for it. Seems that you are at the mercy of your insurance company at the time that you need them most. It seems that access to healthcare has been debated and put on the back burner for over 50 years combined with the fact that the people making the decisions regarding healthcare access rarely have to concern themselves with access to healthcare for themselves or their families, I'm just wondering how much longer is this cycle going to continue before something tangible gets done. I was struck by an uninsured driver on 02-10-11. Because the driver who struck me was uninsured I was forced to file a claim with my insurance company(Omni Insurance). The car was towed to CJ's collision at 6128 n beechwood Philadelphia, pa ,19138 on 02-11-11. Phone number 215-848-2836. On 02-14-11 Omni insurance sent out an appraiser to evaluate the vehicle. They then faxed an estimate on 02-15-11 totaling $5300 to CJ's collision shop. I went to the collision shop on 02-15-11 to sign paperwork giving them permission to work on my car. They then began the repairs. On 02-18-11 the insurance company then deemed my car a total loss. The vehicle is a 2005 Nissan Altima SL with 96,477 miles. The NADA value for the vehicle is 10,995. According to Omni insurance a car is deemed a total loss when the repairs reach 70% of the value of the vehicle. Omni insurance valued my car at 7,415. They then proposed a settlement offer of 5826.40. They deducted 975.00 in prior damages(which I disagree with) and 1000.00 my deductible. The settlement offer included 386.40 in sales tax. After negotiating on 02-28-11 they proposed an offer of 7835.30. The value they gave my car was 9255. Again 975.00 was deducted and my 1000.00 deductible. They including sales tax and tags/registration fee in the offer. I accepted the offer out of desperation because they also stopped paying for the rental car I was driving on 02-28-11. I work, attend school and have a child my schedule requires that I have a car so I paid out of pocket for a rental car until 03-07-11, expecting the payment to be issued to my lien holder by then so I could purchase another car. I contacted them on 03-07-11 inquiring about my payment and was informed they did not pick the vehicle up from the collision shop therefore they were not issuing a payment. The collision shop gave them a bill of 1750.00 for the repairs they did and the storage fees. The insurance company disagrees with this and refuses to pick the vehicle up and issue my payment. They have also stated this may come out of my settlement offer. The insurance company already has the title to the car and all the necessary paperwork to the vehicle but refuses to issue a payment. It has been a month since I filed my claim and I can no longer afford to pay for a rental especially since it seems I will have to purchase a new vehicle. The insurance company is low balling me and also forcing me to pay for repairs they approved then backed out of.""

I'm seventeen years old and I think I have depression. All teenagers are emotional, I get that, but I know this is more. When I'm occupied and around people for a few hours at a time or less, I'm fine and usually even happy. Then when I actually have time to stop and think and let my mind wander, I usually feel kind of hopeless and just very sad. I also have other emotional issues, like the littlest things seem to enrage me. Also, I read somewhere that depression can cause physical issues such as digestive issues (which I have been having a lot of the past four or five months). I cancel plans a lot now, either because my stomach is acting up or I feel too sad to go anywhere and I just dont want to be bothered with people. Ive been sleeping a lot more than normal lately because thats the only time things dont bother me. When I was about thirteen I had an issue with cutting, I would talk to my guidance counselor (which is not an option now because I did home schooling and now am done with school until college next fall) and when she realized that I may have some more serious issues, she called my mom. My mom always brushed it off. She talked to me a total of one time, only when I went to my older cousin and my cousin forced my mother to talk to me. Basically, my mom got mad because I said I didnt feel comfortable talking to her and she refused to send me to a counselor, then she said she would send me to a counselor (at that time I had insurance) but she never actually ended up doing anything. So I went back to doing what I always do, pretending to be fine, and for the most part I controlled it. I stopped cutting until about seven months ago, which was also when all my other issues started popping up. I havent cut myself in a few months now, but I still have the urge to which is not okay.
