Is it normal to feel my heart clench when I think of touya-nii? I know he is not perfect but after all the heartships he had to endure I just want him to be happy

first of all, i can’t tell you how ecstatic i am that you told me this <3 because knowing that you feel so deeply and so strongly for him is such a compliment. seriously, thank you so much <3

here’s the thing about touya-nii (and all of my other iterations of these characters, i would argue): he is a genuinely awful person. he is B A D. he tortures and kills people for a living, he deals drugs, he’s emotionally abusive and manipulative, etc.

but he is human. and no one, absolutely no one, is 100% fully BAD. does this excuse his actions or make them okay? no, not in any way, not at all. but as you’ve pointed out, he has suffered greatly. he has endured abuse as well, for a long time, at a crucial age. he carries around trauma so heavy it cracks his bones. this still doesn’t excuse his behaviour, but it helps the real reader understand him as a person/character better.

additionally, we know he isn’t all bad. he genuinely loves his mother, genuinely loves natsuo and genuinely loves reader, even if his love is twisted and thorny and unhealthy. he still does GOOD things for them, too—pays for his mothers house, her clothes, anything and everything she needs at the drop of a hat, even though he doesn’t need to; does the same for natsuo and cares for him the way he deems a big brother ‘should’; and he really does take care of reader in all the ways she mentioned in my snowman & me.

all of these ‘good deeds’ STILL do not negate is terrible decisions (lmao they don’t even come close to balancing it out, as we’ve all seen) but, as you’ve demonstrated, you can sympathize with him without condoning his actions. you can understand him without defending him; and that’s my goal here, as the author. morality is very interesting, extremely complex and grey as hell, and it’s something i like to explore in my works a LOT. it isn’t as cut and dry as people wish it was.

tbh with you anon he’d still treat her (or at least, try to treat her) the exact same way. i headcanon dabi (and thus touya-nii) to be extremely intelligent, so he wouldn’t really be scared off by someone who matches (or exceeds!!!) his level of intelligence. he’d actually see this as a VERY fun challenge, wanting to break such a beautiful smart lil thing, bend and twist her will and have her submit to him, you know??

i think the other question here is, would a girl like that even be with touya-nii??? would she see through all of his toxicity and manipulation tactics and get herself out of there? or would he still be able to break her down and turn her into his dumb needy little baby??? he’d certainly try!!!

but my point is, he wouldn’t be intimidated by someone matches or exceeds his level of intellect—in fact, if anything this would make him want to break her down even MORE, because he needs that power dynamic, he needs her needy for HIM, and it would be all the sweeter if she proves to be more of a challenge; i mean, that’s half the fun, right?

I’m sorry I have taken a while to reply, been packing again to move into new student housing so busy stressful times sorting all that stuff out but I’m moving this week so not too much stress left <3

My tattoo actually didn’t hurt at all, I got my lil koi fish done on the side of my wrist like if you hold your arms out straight and then turn it to the side so your thumb is facing up its on that side if that makes any sense - ngl it was kinda relaxing, I told my tattoo artist that I could’ve fallen asleep

Also I saw your post about damiano and omg in so happy that you love them too - I thought you would like them and honestly the whole band are fashion icons and I am obsessed <3 because they won Eurovision they’ll do a Europe tour and I am hoping to get tickets whenever the dates are realised because I need to see them live

How are you doing? What have you been up to recently? I haven’t managed to make anymore progress on the film list you gave me so no film updates unfortunately - oh actually I went to see Candyman in the cinemas and it was not my favourite horror in the world, more gory than scary which I don’t mind but gore doesn’t bother me, I’m not very squeamish so if I see a horror movie I do want it to scare me and I can’t say that this one did so if you’ve seen it or were planning on it then that is just my thoughts <3

other than that, i've been spending a lot of time with my family + my boyfriend. we've been going to the zoo a lot, and just this past weekend we went hiking right along the niagara whirlpools, so that was super fun and scary but rly pretty hehe <3 my boyfriend and i are also picking up learning italian again (LMAO) because the prospect of moving to italy seems to be becoming more and more of a reality with each passing day, so!! my mom's been speaking to me in italian at home, but she speaks a calabrian dialect and not standard italian, so there's a bit of a disconnect there hehehe <3 but it's still cool, she's so happy we're learning lmao

and then every day i write a bit of break my bones. i've been jumping between part four, part five, and the epilogue, but so far i'm really happy with what i've written, even if it's going suuuuper slowly (i only wrote like 800 words last night D: but it's better than nothing!)

i totally get u on the candyman issue; i wasn't planning on seeing it in theatres but i'm with you 100% on gore vs terror. like i LOVE gore but i don't find it scary. i haven't been to a theatre in so long and i miss it a lot but :( i'm still really selective on the public places i'll go to hahaha
