pls talk to me about malia.. i’ve been talking nonstop to my friends abt her and i would love to hear your opinions 🥺

malia is definitely one of those characters that people either love or hate, and i’m one of the people who love her.

the first time i heard about malia was when i was first getting into teen wolf. at the time, i’d really only been watching for sterek, so i heard of her for the first time when i was reading a stiles/derek fic on wattpad. i saw so many mean comments about her and figured that i wasn’t going to like her once i actually met her in canon, but honestly, i’ve loved her since her first appearance. she’s strong, determined, knows what she wants, and not to mention, funny as hell. i love her personality and how blunt she is, even if it makes her sound rude at times. 

there is so much negativity that surrounds her, mostly because people like other ships and characters that she “blocks.” most of the time, the hate she gets isn’t even about her - the people i’ve seen talking about her in the worst ways are the people who prefer scallison, sterek, and stydia over scalia and stalia, or people who feel like she isn’t as good as other female characters like lydia and allison. obviously there’s nothing wrong with liking those ships and characters better than the ones involving malia, but i feel like a lot of that hate is so unnecessary and closes people off from realizing what a great character she really is when she’s not being compared to others. she’s her own person and deserves to be analyzed that way.

as for malia’s relationships, i have mixed views on them. i really liked stalia and prefer it over sterek and stydia (gasp!), but i didn’t like maleo (for obvious reasons...this is a mainly-thiam blog, after all) and i wasn’t too hot on the scalia endgame. i think that scalia was cute, but it felt forced and unnecessary considering that before season 6, malia and scott didn’t have that much of a relationship. i would have rather had malia remain single at the end of the show, since she’s independent and strong on her own without needing to be the one who inevitably ends up with the male main character and becomes his other half. but then again, that might be my saltiness talking - my favorite malia ship has to be malia and kira ;)

overall, i definitely love malia both as a character and as her role in the show. if there was another season of teen wolf, i’d love to see her in it, even if it was just for a few episodes.
