Shiro and Lance have been paired together since the very first episode...

Lance pointing out that Shiro is his hero:

Shiro singling out Lance, and not Hunk and Pidge during their first official meeting:

Shiro being the one to immediately run to Lance’s side after the crystal explosion:

Shiro praising Lance’s sharpshooting, which must have really felt good to Lance, since we know he had many insecurities about his abilities and place on the team at the time:

Shiro choosing to speak to Lance on the astral plane and not the others:

Lance talking to Clone Shiro about it later:

...and Clone Shiro going to Lance for help again:

Shiro mentioning Lance, specifically, in his vlog, with extra sparkly sound effects djkfhdsjfkshkfld:

Lance looking the most distressed, and being the one Clone Shiro looks at when he’s trying to avoid falling under Haggar’s full control:

Lance being the most emotional paladin when they found out the truth about Shiro, because he felt guilty for not giving him more support/figuring out the truth you did so good my boy 😭:

Shiro’s distress when Lance almost died on his way to the base with Veronica:

Lance’s joy when Shiro spoke to them from the Atlas:

and probably many more as well.

and i don’t mean this in a shippy way AT ALL. Lance and Shiro have a sort of mentor-student/older brother-younger brother relationship like Shiro and Keith. i’m just trying to show the sheer AMOUNT of times they’ve stressed the two of them and the relationship between them. it’s a lot.

and on top of being paired together over and over in the show, they stand together in Lauren’s now famous drawing as well :)

so all of these moments need to amount to something. Lance helped Shiro, but Shiro hasn’t helped Lance yet. if they’re gonna consistently pair two characters together like that, there needs to be a solid end to their arc. 

and what does Lance need help with in s8? romance, hands down. he’s stuck in the middle of two romantic interests...

...literally in the middle.

that’s what Lance needs help figuring out, and since he’s been paired with Shiro since the beginning of the show, it needs to be Shiro to help Lance through these issues, resolving their arc at last.
