Hey everyone 💜 This is just something personal I thought I’d share. For no reason, really, except I felt like I wanted to and that I should. I’ve never shared this with anyone before and there’s really no purpose to this except I just wanted to write it all down. Please don’t reblog! (Not that anyone would lmao, but just saying). tw: suicide mention

A few years ago, when I was about 17/18, I was quite active on tumblr in a different fandom (not this blog, this is a sideblog that used to be empty and was one of my saved urls before I started posting on here in Feb of last year. Anyways, there was this one person whom I befriended on tumblr and we used to talk on messages like every day. And it got so unhealthy, to the point where I’d feel bad if I was online and didn’t reply to them, and felt like I always had to reply to them or else they’d get passive aggressive? I remember once I told them something along the lines of “hey! maybe it’d be okay if we… didn’t talk every day? like we’d still be friends, friends don’t have to talk every single day” and oh my gosh, they got so passive aggressive about it and made me feel so so guilty that I took it all back. I remember crying actual real tears over this, which is so crazy thinking back. Now, this person wasn’t a bad person and I wish them all the best in whatever they’re doing now and honestly don’t really have any ill feeling towards them. What I’m saying is that I was not emotional equipped or mature enough to be dealing with something like that. And then I remember another person (completely unrelated to this first person) randomly messaged me one day all like “you never speak to me, I thought we were friends!” And wrote all these paragraphs talking about how I don’t speak to them when we were never really close to begin with? And yet I let myself feel bad once more. I just did not have the emotional maturity to be creating boundaries online and all of this was a result of that. So I took a break from tumblr and I remember crying real tears and having a panic attack in the toilet and hoping these people would forgive me for taking a break. A BREAK FROM A DAMN WEBSITE. and then I came back a while later and I had my boundaries set very VERY high.

Which is still true now. Like, I never expected this blog to blow up as much as it has or the sheer volume of asks and messages I get every single day. (Not showing off but idk how else to put it). And I love it, like I love this type of interaction and I feel like this fandom is so much friendlier and healthier than any previous fandoms I’ve been in. Yet a lot of the time I still feel like an outsider, like I have this imposter syndrome. Like all these other blogs are all friends and I’m just there like 🧍🏻lmao. But I feel like that’s bc I’m still so wary bc of what I’ve been through on this website in the past. Like I’ve put up these high walls and I get anxious that a repeat of something like what happened before, will happen again. I feel like I’ve matured from that experience enough to set my boundaries so that I don’t EVER find myself in a position that I’m crying over someone being passive aggressive to me online (although I doubt that would ever happen again, I was like 18 when that happened and I was emotionally a child). And I feel like this is partly why I get overwhelmed so easily when my messages pile up that I just leave them ignored — bc i know this sounds deep and weird but I said to myself that the moment this stops being fun, I need to delete this app bc it’s not worth my mental health.

And it was only much later, when tiktok became a thing and people started sharing their experiences about how they were 12/13/14 and on tumblr trying to persuade a fully grown adult not to unalive themselves, that I realised that so many people have had similar toxic experiences on tumblr. Having grown people trauma dump on you through dm and you feel so guilty and don’t know how to cut them off and you think it’s a true friendship when really it’s not.

Idk why I’m sharing this except for the fact that I just had to write it down. And it still makes me anxious now, as much as I try to deny it. Then I have to remind myself that I’m a grown ass 23 year old now who will never have to go through experiences like that again, bc I am in charge of who I talk to. And this is why I kind of just… am so nervous about talking to people sometimes. Although tbh as I said before, this fandom has been so good to me. Like everyone is so nice and understanding of boundaries and I really love that. I’m happy to be a part of this community and I want to be everyone’s friend but I’m just so in my own head about it. Idk if I’m even making sense anymore, I just feel that a lot of the time I have to second-guess every interaction I make bc I don’t want people to hate me or take my humour the wrong way or find me annoying. Like, that’s my other biggest fear. Or rather, my default feeling: that people on here find my annoying lmao. And I’m not looking for sympathy, and I’ve said this before and y’all amazing people have reassured me that I’m not. But I’m just writing my feels down rn bc it’s kinda therapeutic idk. And idk how to end this so I guess I’ll just end it here lmao. Anyways

jinyoung and mark are my biases, my ults actually <3 and yess i'm keeping up w/ their solo projects even more than before 😭 it's so jdjdkdkd. 2017 was the year i started listening to kpop and around that time or lil later i came across ' you are ' this song is so dear to me i loved it in first listen, its lyrics i love its lyrics sm i made everyone i know listen to it dhjddk yet i didn't dive in deeper bc i was caught up with other group at that time but slowly I started watching their content from 2018. it's like got7's been w/ me since the start & at the same time not </3 but look, lullaby and more importantly spinning top came and everything changed with that album it's so goood from then i started keeping up with their music and check their cbs. i knew jype was meh even when i didn't stan them but i didn't know to what extent, i only got to know after 2019. so far it's all so good and i hope it stays like that. all of their different companies treat and promote them nicely 🥺.

with svt it was instant love i got to know abt them during march 2019 ig, their songs grew on me so fast and boom by the time may came i was a carat, with got7 it was gradual love, it increased lil by lil it's nice but i do wish i could've stanned them earlier. the only cb experience as an official birdie i have is nbtm and last piece 😭 anyway both of these groups are very dear to me not just musically but emotionally too. i love them very much 😔.

also omg those are some of the great artists!! i honestly have no idea how khh and krnb are i mostly listen to kpop and kbands more. i actually listen to a lot of artists but regularly only zayn, svt, got7, the rose (ik we're talking abt kpop but i can't leave zayn out of this djdjdkdk he's the first ever artist i have stanned <3)

Okay okay. I want a one or two bedroom apartment in Montreal, Quebec. (NYC would be the dream but hahahhhh way too expensive). hi, i just abandoned my old blog and started a new one to post my poetry like. last night and ik it takes a while to get exposure but do u have any tips for getting ppl to read ur stuff if ur new and have like 4 followers? (btw love love love ur poetry it just feels rly raw and emotional and ahhhhhhhh ur amazing!!)

hi!! this is something that everyone probably has different strategies on, so this is just my two cents. this got really long so i’m putting it under a “read more”

make your blog presentable & unique/true to your style. this might sound like a snobbish thing to say, but there are tons of people blogging on tumblr. if you want people to notice you and to linger on your page, try and choose a good username, a profile pic that fits your vibe, a theme that is clear and easy to navigate, etc. there have legitimately been times when i’ve wanted to follow somebody but their desktop theme has been so messy that i couldn’t find their follow button. make your blog look nice!! have a nice tagging system!! make it obvious that you put some amount of thought and deliberation into making it. 

interact with poets you admire. this does not mean that you shoot people messages like “follow for a follow”  though, like. personally, i never follow people who send me stuff like that. be sincere.  everyone loves validation. reblog their stuff and talk in tags about why you loved it. message them if they’re having a bad day and tell them that you care.  make rec lists with other people’s poetry & tag them in these. something i used to do was leave poets whose work i liked little poems i’d written for them in their askboxes, usually off anon. do things like that, but don’t expect anything in return. if someone feels like you are genuinely being supportive, they are more likely to want to support you too, as compared to the whole “follow for a follow” thing.  you’ll also make cool friends in the process!!

this should’ve been point #1 maybe but i’d suggest that you keep your poetry on your main blog. your main blog is what shows in people’s notifs for likes, replies, asks and follows. it is much harder to get your sideblog to be as visible, usually. however, i have friends who have poetry sideblogs and on their main blog title or bio they mention “PLS FOLLOW ME @ ______ WHICH IS WHERE MY POETRY IS.” which is fine of course, but i’m not sure how effective it is? i used to have a poetry sideblog in 2016. i had maybe 30 followers. it’s HARD.

use relevant hashtags. i’m going to be super duper honest, i don’t really remember which hashtags work best. i usually use spilled ink, poets on tumblr, free verse, poetry, and other arbitrary tags as well as network tags. see what tags poets you like use and try using those. don’t use tags that you don’t have any claim to use (like don’t use poc tags if you’re white, etc. but you probably already knew that. also some networks like soft poets society have closed tags, so don’t use those without their permission.) some poets encourage their followers to use tags they’re tracking (i track #antigoneblue, for example) so like. if you want to be noticed just see which tags seem to work! 

join networks. you’ll meet like minded creators, and you will also find yourself in a space where everyone promotes everyone else. networks are usually good places to get exposure, to get noticed, and also to grow as a poet! 

interact with prompts. some networks post discussions, like nosebleedclub used to (idk if they still do?). some users post prompts, like adam ( julykings ) used to. keep your eyes open for these. when you write for them, the prompters will usually check your work out, and if they like it, they may promote it as well! 

don’t feel bad about reblogging your own work. we’re all yelling into a void trying to get noticed here.

similarly - don’t feel bad reblogging posts like “i’m looking for more poetry blogs to follow, reblog this and i’ll check yours out.” do it!!  there’s nothing shameful about wanting to be noticed.

I’ve always wanted to rp as Delsin but I love Fetch ad Eugene just as much. I’m kinda gravitating towards Fetch though when I toy with the idea, even though I’d love to write any of them.

Most identifiable fictional character: This one’s very difficult. Very, very difficult because as I am right now, I’m not sure I can think of anyone that really comes close to being like me. I know when I was younger I identified a lot with Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet, y’know I was living with just my mom for so long and rarely saw my dad, I wanted to be a good daughter but got caught up in daydreaming all the time. Nowadays though... I’m just not sure.

I don’t actually care for my Hogwarts House anymore because with the introduction of Ilvermorny it solved the problem I had for so long with Hogwarts’ sorting situation. With them I was always toeing the line between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, both are very mentally-inclind houses and I fit them both. Now I just stick with Horned Serpent at Ilvermorny because their entire premise is about importance placed on one’s mind.

Do you think you’re a good driver: Sure would like to know, if only my anxiety would let me breathe when I get behind the wheel. c:

Favorite minor discourse (pinapple on pizza, what color is the dress, etc): Idk I don’t relly get into the petty discourse that gets super popular. Maybe I can say I love mint ice cream? Like I know there’s a swath of people that think it tastes like toothpaste. They’re wrong, of course.

Favorite vine and/or meme: I don’t really... have favorites. Like I wasn’t really into vine when it was alive and I mean, I just don’t think about memes that much to have a particular favorite? I’m a bland human being, I guess.

Why did you choose this muse: This’ll be a two parter since I have two muses. Lola came about first, as soon as we got the teaser image for Afterparty I was excited beyond belief. I loved Oxenfree and played the shit out of it when it hit ps4. (I’d even have the platinum if I hadn’t fucked up on my last playthrough, oops). And the Night School tumblr posts periodic things with character and concept art, and eventually the first trailer dropped and I lost my shit. I immediately fell if love with Lola and Milo, and I decided awhile back to try and make a different multi blog with Lola, Alex from Oxenfree, and Mae from Night in the Woods. It was a sideblog with a pretty niche audience so things were quiet there. It wasnt until DBH happened that gears really started turning.

Because lemme tell you, I kinda wanted to not like Detroit: BH. I’d watched playthroughs of Beyond Two Souls and heard a lot of good stuff about Heavy Rain’s story. For some reason though I just wasn’t feeling the promotional stuff for DBH. I only decided to check out the playthrough I finished watching because I really love and trust the Youtuber who made it. I didn’t know shit going into except that there were androids and I’d seen glimpses of Kara before. So of course Jesse fucking Williams is in it and sweeps me off my god damn feet. I think I made it through what would amount to a couple of hours of gameplay (broken into parts ofc) before deciding to uproot Lola from her old blog and buddy her up with Markus.

Favorite rp memory: Hmmm. It’s a lot less actual roleplaying and more, I guess more of the acceptance. A few years back, right around the time Agents of SHIELD first aired, I made an OC I actually mentioned up above, Trinity Duvall. I was toying with the idea of making a super powered character that wasn’t necessarily a cape-and-costume kind of gal, because I was like... 17 and had no experience with the original comics or anything other than mainstream superhero stuff at the time. I decided I wanted her powers to not be her own, but tied to a stone that landed inside a meteorite, and that the stone would actually have the soul of an alien being tied to it. It’s a little complicated so I on’t go into details, but I felt at the time like I was taking a gamble. I wrte a couple oneshots about her, applied to a forum rp with her, and eventually ended up doing private rp stories with someone I met through that forum. Never once did I have to change her, she was just welcomed right away. And coming off a shitty run of luck with the first site I’d rped on? It was the confidence boost I really needed.

Favorite thing you’ve written, in rp or not: It might sound a little silly, but I’ve mentioned Defiance on her a couple times so why not. The one story I’m most proud of writing is actually on FF.N, it’s called Fragility. It’s a short oneshot, not even 2k words. At the time I was trying to just write as often as possible even if I hated what I wrote afterwards, but this one... It provides an ending for a character the show kinda leaves in the void. A man comes home from space to find out the whole world has changed, an entire war has left the Earth terraformed with humans and aliens living together. He ends up finding out his wife’s still alive but oops, he’s actually not the real Gordon he’s just an alien that was implanted with Gordon’s memories. Every now and then I go back and read that little story and every time I do I still feel proud.

A line/lyrics/quote/etc you like or that means a lot to you: Nothing really jumped out as a favorite, so I went looking and found this passage I rather like from Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy:  “There’s plenty of folk as’d like to have a lion as a dæmon and they end up with a poodle. And till they learn to be satisfied with what they are, they’re going to be fretful about it. Waste of feeling, that is.”

Give a shout-out to someone: @softestmood has been my best friend for the past year now, and they’ve made me feel loved even when I felt I was worthless. I feel like I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I hadn’t met Rae, and I’ll always be thankful for that <3

“11 facts” but more like “11 elaborations”

Both @setsailslash and @catalogercas have tagged me in this "11 facts" thing, which is a nice meme to bring back I think. So here it goes my dears. (under the cut ‘cos phew once I start talking... To quote Katie McGrath, “why use one word when seven will do” ;) )

1.       I shouldn't even be on tumblr rn, I wanted to stay off it and not watch the shows that are returning during January, so I wouldn't procrastinate writing my thesis so much.

2.       Surprise surprise, I've been on tumblr anyway a few short times but those were enough to spoil myself about Sherlock 4.1-2, so I went ahead and watched the episodes anyway last night… After also watching the shows that returned on Tuesday... BUT I really will not, must not watch the shows coming back next week and after – until I'm done with that $%&!-ing thesis. It's due on January 30th btw. So after that day I will catch up on all the (remaining) things.

3.       Confession time: I kinda like ASMR. Got into it sometime last year – but I basically only like a single vlogger, WhispersRed ASMR (Emma; such a soothing voice and just such a zen person, but I’m not into all of her videos either), I'm very picky about those ASMR things (the sound triggers, the voices of the creators). There's a lot of weird ASMR stuff out there… so yeah. I go "nope" on a lot of things. But to each their own.

4.       Alternatively/originally, I've been listening to stuff to fall asleep to for YEARS (not always but usually). Used to be relaxing music but I’ve long since switched to meditation/relaxation stuff. And once I started to often listen to ASMR videos at night time, I noticed that it's probably less about the actual relaxation bits in those meditative recordings for me but rather just a sort of (spoken) white noise in the background – so I don't focus on my own thoughts which often keep me from falling asleep, and instead drown them out with some unimportant background ramblings. That works better for me than actual "white noise" or quiet music. I guess my stress levels have increased since high school as well so

5.       When I was 5 or 6, my sisters, a few other kids and I were playing with a boomerang which literally NEVER got back to us, someone always had to run and get it. And then the ONE time it does come flying back, I wasn't looking and it hit me on the forehead. Nothing too bad happened (the amount of bleeding scared me though) but I still have the little scar on the left side of my forehead.

6.       The boomerang incident didn't require stitches apparently – I got a (I had to look up this word) butterfly bandage. BUT: The german word doesn't sound as cutesie (butterfly, aww - we have “butterfly needles” though in German aaand I’m going off topic again sorry), the ("Klammerpflaster"), it translates as "clamp/staple/peg bandaid". My six-year-old self however only knew the "peg" meaning of the word "Klammer" apparently and I got quite panicked cos I imagined getting a peg (like for laundry) on my forehead! XD

7.       I have been on tumblr for idk, I think 4 or 5 years now, and I keep getting salty about the fact that I've never gotten "blog anniversary emails" from tumblr. My rarely used sideblogs do! But not my main blog, where it would actually matter to me :/

8.       I have two adorable tiny nephews. Sadly I don't get to see them that often (in person) because they live in Sweden. But generally I love being an aunt – idk if I'll ever have children of my own but having them "part time" and then being able to give them (and the responsibility) back is pretty neat ^^

9.       I only recently found out that this Lemony Snicket story is fairly young! I always thought it was older, like Dr Seuss, and something that’s apparently quite famous in the anglo-American world (like Dr Seuss). Then the other day I saw the trailer for the Netflix show and looked up the title - and the original books “A Series of Unfortunate Events” are from 1999-2006?? So, very much contemporary to Harry Potter! Wow. I would have been pretty much the ideal age for these books (with HP it worked perfectly which I loved c: ), but I guess they didn’t become as famous over here (not as quickly anyway). Oh well. Maybe the Netflix show (I haven’t watched the movie adaptation) will inspire me to read them after all.

10.   I've always loved the vampire myth but recently I had a nightmare about being chased/kept in captivity by some of them (like as their blood supply o_O ) – which made me feel kinda betrayed by my subconscious lol. The only other time I can remember having a nightmare about vampires, I was about 6 years old and had just read my first vampire book. (Clearly it didn’t stop me from being into that book series though ^^ )

11.   But I also had a rather nice dream the other day, about Greg from "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" :3 I've recently bingewatched that show (aaand we've come full circle with the procrastination) and I recommend it to anyone who likes comedy and musicals (S1 is on netflix) – WHY DIDN'T I KNOW SOONER THAT THIS WAS A MUSICAL SHOW?! I would have watched it from the start!! (The title had turned me off tbh – but while it obviously is largely about relationships, there's really more to it as well and you will love the characters and seeing them grow and find themselves and IRONIC MUSICAL NUMBERS. In so many styles. It's awesome.)
