@idontwanttospoiltheparty and I figured it out:
Mark L's veiled, possibly unconscious antipathy towards Paul can only be explained by his failed love affair with same.
Further, he's convinced John and Paul never did it because the latter once turned to him and said, "you're the best I ever had." Which means 1) he cannot possibly have had John, who is categorically the Best Ever, and 2) he can't admit where he got this information.

Hmmm….surprised is hard….probably my film photography! I don’t know if I’m particularly good or bad but people tend to be surprised when they see all my cameras

WAIT can you explain how Ticket To Ride and That Means A Lot are related? (also I LOVE That Means A Lot tbh)
YES so Paul said at some point That Means A Lot was his attempt at Ticket to Ride but it didn't work out (hence their version being unreleased until anthology). Let me find the direct quote real quick.
So nevermind whatever I thought Paul said I must be misremembering because as far as I can tell when i look for it now, it was Ian MacDonald who compared the two songs saying it was "an attempt to rewrite Lennon's 'Ticket to Ride' ... to which take 1 of 'That Means a Lot' bears a blatant resemblance" among other even less nice things.
Personally I do hear the resemblance (especially with the can't you see fade-out vs the my baby don't care fade-out), but I really like the song too, and I don't think of it in the way Ian put it because it's really cool to see how John and Paul inspire each other in their song-writing.
Edit: also here's a sort of mash up from the Beatoons studio gags. That Means A Lot goes over the Ticket to Ride instrumental pretty well

1. Unpopular John opinion?
This is one of those questions where I can't quite land on what is a *popular* John opinion to go against. Popular with the jean jackets? Popular with the Tumblr crowd (which one?)? Popular with the Lennon Industrial Complex?
I don't think John should be cancelled.
I do think we should be able to talk about the good and bad of our heroes/public figures with nuance and respect and that you can discuss complicated people with compassion.
I actually... Don't enjoy most of his solo work, which frankly is one of the most shocking and upsetting things about finally becoming a Beatles fan.
I guess that's enough for now. ;)
10. If you were going to blame a single person for the Beatles' break-up, who would it be?
I don't love reducing such a complex dynamic to this question, but that's why it's here, isn't it? Ha.
Can I blame John and Paul equally? At its root, I believe the breakup was caused by a fundamental breakdown in communication (or really, possibly a failure to establish actual, sustainable communication strategies from the beginning). Everything and everyone else is an accessory to that central tension. Now, I think I understand (as well as anyone can) why that happened and I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, this breakdown. It's not like MOST people would know how to handle this. But blaming Klein or Yoko or the Eastmans ignores the actual problem.
And I don't think it's a cop-out to say John and Paul were equally responsible for their relationship and equally deficient--in various ways, mostly unintentional IMO. They each got hurt and each blamed the other and I actually think both were right and wrong. And that's what is so tragic about it.
But feel free to try to pin me down, if you have to.
19. Was John's activism pure narcissism or simply misguided?
Leading question innit?
I think it's a mixture of real enthusiasm/idealism, the zeal of the high he and Yoko were riding, and an ability they both had to self-promote. And there's nothing wrong with that, and I think there's value in much of what they did. But I also think it was terribly naive and born of an interesting need John had to back away from what he'd been while remaining in the spot light.
I guess I think he believed it, but he intensely believed so many things, and in part this was powered by the narcissism of falling for his own line.
At the same time, I also kind of feel like they were laughing the whole time, well aware of the limitations of their stances (while still believing, don't get me wrong), and I'm not entirely sure how to square both of these thoughts.
I guess I don't think it was pure narcissism at all, but I also don't think the other answer is "simple."

okay but Baby's In Black is an Insane Song because........ it's like the opposite of A Day In The Life (or We Can Work It Out and Michelle to a lesser extent), where each individual's part is so Distinct and it's like two very different flavours combining in one mouthful (like sea salt chocolate or smth I can't think of a good example) but Babys In Black is this perfect emulsion. They Are One. you can't even fucking tell which melody is the main one and they REFUSED to name one as the main one and both said it was one of their most pure 50/50 songs. Insanely underrated as a composition on its own but it's SUCH a uniquely insane Lennon-McCartney moment
PERIOD. Literally mic drop I have nothing to add except yes yes yes and also they did that and in WALtZ TIME
Also now I will forEvermore™ think of sea salt when I listen to Baby’s In Black

orchid, cactus, and nutmeg!!
orchid ⇢ what’s a song you consider to be perfect?
goddd i really don't want to be basic but: cardigan and yesterday. feel like i've got to explain my choices so, i love nostalgic songs the most and these two, i feel are two very different shades of nostalgia. they're both sad but like SO DIFFERENTLY sad and i love that.
cactus ⇢ something you’re currently learning (about)?
structuralism (the literary theory, not the psychological one). took me forever to wrap my head around it but now that i've got the basic idea, i'm just like words are so cool!!! though now i keep second guessing everything i say/write
nutmeg ⇢ how’s your room/home decorated? do you have a specific theme or style going on?
my room looks VERY different from my house. my room is just stark and white. literally not a trace of paint. it's just white walls, my bed and a hardwood table with all my college stuff. my house is idk how to put this but...very indian? like there's drapery everywhere and paintings and statues and random idols on every shelf (lots of krishna lol george would've loved it here)
