i'm not saying this to make any sort of point but as someone who works in canadian theatre, the wga strike is going to have an interesting effect on live entertainment too, like i know multiple people who have lost their jobs or will lose their jobs soon because so much american television is produced here and obviously the iatse union is standing with the wga which it should and i also know that when film crew are out of work like this they often turn to theatre because it's a different local of the same union (and a lot of them started in theatre) and they wind up pushing permits out of work because film crew are usually members which means they get first dibs on all calls even if they don't have much live entertainment experience and even though attitudes in theatre and film are VERY different. And i really really hope the wga gets everything they want, they deserve that and more, but i also hope it happens quickly before young iatse permits get priced out of this city and we get into into another situation like the one right after the pandemic

#when the pandemic hit and live entertainment pretty much died for a few years #most established theatre iatse guys moved into film so when theatre started up again there was this huge crisis #and iatse was so desperate for permits they were literally advertising for them on facebook and weren't requiring advocates or anything #which is a massive fucking deal and also how i got my permit #but it also means theres a ton of experienced film iatse members who aren't averse to jumping ship to a familiar field #and all those new permits who found their opening in that crisis are now in danger of being out of work #in the most expensive city in the country #and as someone who works at a theatre that's labelled a learning theatre by the union (we get all the green permits) #it's going to be very interesting to see what happens next #fortunately we don't pay as well as many of the other venues in the city #but we're more likely to offer steady work #so film guys who want cash will take the jobs at the high paying venues doing dailies and weeklies #and the ones who just want to keep busy will wind up here #i have two very good friends who work for the film union #one decided to take a vacation during the strike (good for her) and the other was let go from star trek and intends to go back to theatre #but knowing the attitude of the well established members and people who got used to film there are going to be Problems #so depending on how long the strike lasts this could actually have some serious ramifications for a lot of people outside of the wga #again i'm not trying to make any sort of point here just getting my thoughts in order in the wake of all these tumblr posts about the strik

#just. look at the history of lgbt rights and major events in queer history in the us #and I’m telling you it is. in fact. dominated by San Francisco #the other cities that contend for the most part are major us cities that contend simply because they are big and/or heavily populated #like yeah obviously dense cities are going to have a higher number of people in various demographics. im thinking mostly about nyc and #Chicago here for the most part #San Fran is not big. it’s dense but not nearly an nyc level population especially historically. #it’s very unique for having been a safehaven for queers for a long time in comparison to the rest of the country #now I am not. by any means. defending it on every front. or considering it superior in any other way basically. I am SOLELY talking about #it’s unrivaled huge and powerful and long-standing queer community #it is- in the present day- literally almost impossible to live in San Francisco. period. it is absurdly expensive. #it’s homelessness situation especially due to the insane cost of living and there takeover of tech companies and so on #is horrific and for no damn reason (the city has enough money to house people Easily through at LEAST the heavy tourism) #the queer COMMUNITY there is what’s important and it’s history of demanding rights and generally flourishing through their own efforts #anyway idk why I felt the need to ramble about this #actually yes I do it’s becuase I think a lot of younger queer people (or queer people who grew up in isolated or conservative areas don’t #know the history associated with San Francisco and why people regard it as being so fundamentally queer #like the fact that portland is in second on that poll- and this is coming from someone who likes portland overall- is so weird to me #it’s a very progressive place but boy it ain’t got the influence and history that San Fran- or even New York or chicago- have #again it’s hard to compare those big big cities to anything but nonetheless #tangential but. sacramento is also a queer-dense city and though we are small and not nearly as flashy as the other contenders it’s worth #noting I think for being more of a safehaven than people tend to think about #anyway. that’s nothing I just had to represent for a second #kibumblabs

last show: I've recently rewatched "Hubert und Staller" - a series about two mostly clueless policemen in Wolfratshausen near Munich. It's funny and doesn't need much thinking which is good for me at the moment. And they speak Bavarian and I always enjoy people spreaking my dialect.

currently watching: Nothing really. Like I said before I need things that don't require thinking because my head's too full and I can't really concentrate on anything.

currently reading: That would definitely require too much thinking, so... nothing.

current obsession: I'm surprised but I don't really have an obsession right now. About 2 weeks ago, it was definitely TS2, but not anymore. But that'll come back. Just like the other obsessions I have from time to time.

Guess my answers sound a bit sad with all the "my head's too full to enjoy anything". Anyway, I'm fine but working in youth care is really hard from time to time

NOT THE GLOBALIZATION ASSIGNMENT 💀 i just finished an essay on the pros and cons of globalization for a contemporary world class except i had to focus on writing the pros because my groupmate was writing about the cons and man i was fighting for my life

Head in hands I might have to write my Abitur about that I don't want to have to write five hours about politics I thought English class had you do more idk Literature or something "Oh but it's like German but in English" In German we are currently doing movie analysis I don't see how those two things are comparable.

But no genuinely I was sitting there an hour just staring at those two pages of text that were all just documenting the way globalisation under the hand of capitalism turns us all into miserable little creatures and nobody profits except the BIG firms and like. My teacher wants us to give quotes we are always supposed to give quotes I can not quote two pages worth of text. That was one of three parts of the assignment. The other two were to analyse how the author uses metaphors (????? We're there even any?????????? I'm supposed to give six examples I can't even remember one?????) And to comment on, explain and state my opinion on either "America first" or "Take back control" as slogans. This woman is just letting me write an exam at this point what even is this.
