I don't mean to be rude or offensive, I'm really just curious, are there any m/f ships you really like in mash or other fandoms?
oh that's not offensive in the least. i think what can get grating is when people are rude about "everything being about gay ships all the time" when i've made it pretty clear that there's a lot of gay stuff on my blog and if someone doesn't like it they can avoid me pretty easily.
so, a few things: 1) i'm relatively new to shipping and it doesn't rank high for me amongst things that draw me into a narrative or fandom - i am not dedicated to many ships in general.
2) even if i can logically 'see' a ship, i like to write smut so if i'm not turned on by the idea of these people fucking then i won't have more than a passing interest in them as a ship. i can be into a fic that uses sex to explore a dynamic without being into the sex itself, but it's not where the majority of my time is spent. that said, i've been in this MASH box so long I've produced fic i would've never dreamed of writing when i first started the show. see: infinite monkey theorum for why that might be lol.
in general, i wouldn’t say gender affects what appeals to me in a ship or a character. i like traphawk because of the nature of their relationship, not specifically because theyre both men, although in their case, the two of them being each other’s non trad partners is relevant to the anti-establishmentarian themes of the show. I dont think it would be half as effective, and therefore as impactful on me, if they were a het ship. their joint commitment to being little shits is why i love them so much together.
ANYWAY to actually answer your question: yes
within MASH i'm really into: margaret/trapper, ginger/trapper, almost any threesome with hawk/trap + a lady friend, hawkeye/kyungsoon
passing interest in: trapper/louise, hawkeye/margaret, hawkeye/bigelowe, hawkeye/carlye, klinger/soon lee, frank/margaret, ginger/oliver
highly situational crackships: trapper/carlye, BJ/aggie, hawkeye/kellye, trapper/kellye, hawkeye/peg hunnicutt
other het ships i'm into to varying degrees from very popular fandoms: katara/zuko (atla), rose/nine (dw), ten/martha (dw), ten/rose (dw), roy/riza (fma), batman/wonder woman (dc comics), nightwing/batgirl (dc comics), ollie/dinah (dc comics), rogue/gambit (marvel comics), han/leia (star wars)
... altho now that i think of it, the caveat with most of these is that with the exception of roy/riza, i don't think i endgame ship any of these. i won't not read a fic that implies they're endgame, i just don't think i really "OTP" any of these, I just enjoy them for various reasons.
honourable mention: mulder/scully - have not seen the x-files but i believe in them.

thoughts on Homura in the Rebellion Story?
Its awesome that I let this post marinate just long enough that we got Walpurgisnacht Rising PV released. Now I am ready to answer this
I lied I have nothing new to say. Homura was normal for what she did. Homura didn't do anything wrong. Everything Homura did was a completely natural reaction for what she was going through. Homura's a 14 year old girl who was trapped in a time loop for an unimaginable amount of time enduring the grieving and loss of her girlfriend over and over and over again -- and over and over and over and over again -- and desperately trying to find some sort of way to make it not happen -- have you ever heard of the "infinite monkey theorum"?

Robert Bell at The Matchbox
Robert Bell is a visual artist based in Denver. He specializes in abstract paintings and figure drawings. He was born in Japan, raised in Colorado, and received his BFA from CSU. He’s also studied at the Santa Chiara Art Center in Italy and the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. His process is an ebb and flow of creativity and improvisation, an exploration of color, lighting, shapes, and textures. Bell draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources including music, his everyday surroundings, and of course, other artists. He has a deep admiration of abstract expressionist Mark Rothco’s color field techniques and a fascination with Egon Schiele’s figure work. Bell is rethinking the connection between the artist and the audience, and unabashedly venturing outside traditional art concepts and spaces.
For most artists, presentation is key to their work; a huge part of that is the venue. The proper space will have the right lighting, maximum public exposure, and an affordable price. Often times, galleries check the most boxes. They do come with a downside however. Galleries make their money from selling art, and many are forced to take large percentages from the artists to cover operating costs. They’re also subject to space and scheduling restraints, which can cause a lack of diversity among their artists. Luckily, there are alternative options. Some outstanding local bars have been stepping up and offering their walls as exhibition space. This is more affordable for artists, and it helps introduce unsuspecting art lovers to their work. Bars are also more approachable for audiences who like a less formal setting. Whatever the reason, local tap houses have proven to be ideal venues for Bell to showcase his talents.
His last exhibition was hosted by the Infinite Monkey Theorum and featured his signature pastels. The event included live painting and was a huge success for both the venue and artist. His next series will be on display at The Matchbox through the end of October. It will include six large scale figure drawings and will be stylistically similar to his last, with a few fundamental changes. While his previous show focused on showing feminine duality through different poses, this will be centered around multiple genders. Half of the models will be women, and the other half will be men dressed as women. Bell aims to add an element of confusion for viewers, causing them to question both their first glance and first impressions of gender more broadly. The opening reception is at 7 pm on October 4th and is free to the public.
Bell averages four to five shows per year, and his work has been part of collections in Boston, Aspen, and all over the Denver area. He has plans for more expansion into national markets next year with his sights set on Austin and Atlanta. If you missed Bell’s last show, or want to see more of his work, stop by The Matchbox during the month of October. You can also check out his portfolio at robertbellfineart.com.

Google’s AI can create better machine-learning code than the researchers who made it
Google’s AI can create better machine-learning code than the researchers who made it
Google’s AutoML system recently produced a series of machine-learning codes with higher rates of efficiency than those made by the researchers themselves. In this latest blow to human superiority the robot student has become the self-replicating master.
AutoML was developed as a solution to the lack of top-notch talent in AI programming. There aren’t enough cutting edge developers to keep up with demand, so the team came up with a machine learning software that can create self-learning code.  The system runs thousands of simulations to determine which areas of the code can be improved, makes the changes, and continues the process ad infinitum, or until its goal is reached.
This is a fabulous representation of the infinite monkey theorum, but instead of a monkey with a keyboard creating Shakespeare, Google made machines capable of replicating their own programming. And those machines can do in hours what takes the best human programmers weeks or months.
Even scarier, AutoML is better at coding machine-learning systems than the researchers who made it. In an image recognition task it reached record a high 82 percent accuracy. Even in some of the most complex AI tasks, its self-created code is superior to humans; it can mark multiple points within an image with 42 percent accuracy compared to human-made software’s 39.
This isn’t the beginning of Skynet or anything spooky like that, we’re not on the verge of the singularity (self-aware machines), but we are leaps closer to revealing AI’s potential to accelerate the technology timeline.
Google only announced AutoML five months ago. It’s remarkable the company created an AI capable of creating better machine-learning systems than researchers have, in such a short time – imagine where the same team will be in a year. More, the team is likely to share their research with others both inside and outside of the company, as Google’s AI researchers often do.
I can’t be the only person who wants to see what Deep Mind can do with the ability to create a better Deep Mind — a Deeper Mind, if you will?
The AI revolution is currently underway and its future is brighter than ever. AutoML is the genesis for the next generation of machine-learning. Tomorrow’s machines won’t just learn, they’ll self-update and be capable of creating custom programs to solve unforeseen problems.
Our hope lies in a future where AI takes care of time-consuming tasks like programming, thus freeing humans to do the things machines can’t do – like enjoy tacos and beer.
