id forgive steven universe for its crimes if the art style wasnt so boring

#steven universe is a really good kids cartoon in comparison to kids cartoons #but i just find it kind of bland #it feels really uhmmmm #preachy? which is fine but idk it really only gets like that near the end #the episode with steven almost dying in the desert to get his moms tapes or whatever i was like good lord bc it was soooooo preachy #and i lost interest then because its like when you want to preach at me and pretend youre this highly emotionally mature show with this #beautiful mature art style then you better act like it #and even if steven universe WAS highly emotionally mature i wouldnt be into it. thats not the kind of stuff i like #so in general i think it was kind of doomed to fail in my eyes #and i really do atribute it to the art style too #im very into bright colors and cutesy things but i dont know it was almost like. toooo magical girl for my personal taste? #i really like a lot of specific episodes though. the frybo episode and the cat transformation episode both stand out really strong #and those ones were really really good and had some insane art

Okay, I've stopped for today some hours ago and tbh don't know if there's much more I want to see in the prototype (really loving these guys though), but unfortunately there's a new thing making me question if I wanna play the full game properly and it's that the high contrast black and white palette actually make me eyes hurt super fast I forgor oghwa

i was in the middle of typing a whole response n my phone died midway 0(-( ill just summarize my findings bc most of what i found wasnt useful anyway

basically the only solid solution i could find after the past few hours(? however long its been since u sent this) is using a blue light/night light filter (which can likely be adjusted to be stronger or weaker) which.. hopefully should be built into ur computer? if u have one it should be easy to find in one of the visual settings options, or in the place where u see notifs if its like my laptop, and im like. pretty sure ur better at techy stuff than me but i can help find it if needed. it adds a nice yellow/orange tint that makes it WAY easier to look at the game. even more than i realized tbh. i took mine off to see what itd look like and yikes ow. do Not play the game like that if u can manage it holy shit that hurts

if u dont have access to that kind of filter then things may get complicated bc i literally cant find Anything else that has a similar effect. checked my computer visual settings (and. may have fucked up some stuff in the process that i need to fix later), steam settings, looked all sorts of stuff up, and got nothing except the filter i mentioned.. not sure abt start again but isat has some visual options that could sort of help in theory (stop moving backgrounds, no flashes, stops moving text) but none that alters the contrast at all :/ if u can find a way to apply like. a color filter somehow that would probably work too, but i have yet to figure out how to do that. its ridiculous tbh why cant i just make my screen pink tinted if i wanted to i think this game would rule w pink. smh

so yeah thats. really all i got for now. i can try to find more later but ironically i have a headache from playing isat for way too long sjxbsksk dont be like me n please take breaks while playing

fAE FAE pLS dgusgfus I LOVE THAT??? heLP but uhmm honestly i think the main reason why my art looks better now is because i've been practicing my basics a lot? and like, its a constant battle to get better and hate your old art yk,, but i'm glad i did it and i can't wait to see how much i'll improve in the future! BUT! as for practicing tips, i would recommend splitting up exactly what you want to tackle first.

digital drawing is a very different skill than sketching. coloring is a very different skill. backgrounds are a skill in itself. drawing bodies,, etc etc etc,, and it was really frustrating to draw sometimes bc it feels like they all go hand in hand? but splitting them up and practicing solely on that- can really help make it feel more doable yk

also drawing on paper is v helpful to me personally. get urself a practice sketchbook, even tho they are two separate skills they kinda are tied together. if you improve one it will also show in the other

and yEA i did do some art in 2021 that i was really proud of. but i do gotta say looking back, those arts took me like 72 hours and so much references that it always felt extremely overwhelming and scary to draw. i like them a lot still, but i dont remember finding it very fun to draw back in 2021

and sometimes it's embarrassing for me to look back at old art and not shudder in shame, but the fact is,, that i was happy with my drawings back when i made them. he reason i'm not happy with them anymore is bc i've practiced, and become better, yk? for fuck sake, atsuko used to look like this (left) and now he looks like that (right)

be a little kind to yourself. it's hard to admit that you can be good at and suck at something at the same time. your improvement will be directly linked to how often you can stomach to be bad at something tbh hahahah i stopped coloring the way i used to in 2021 because i loved doing it but i actually sucked at it. and im still in the middle of practicing coloring, and most of what i draw is ugly and i hate it,, but thats okay. i hopefully will find value in it once i start noticing some improvement

anyway sorry for the ramble the point is, find your weak points and target them. and then, practice. practice practice practice. dont believe these tiktok artists who say "oh i started drawing in 2021" and bust out the most amazing portraits in the history of ever. that isn't the reality for most people;

#ok so my boss asked me to focus on one kind of cookie and our new cakes #yesterday i only did the cookies but i didn't finish them #the plan for today was finished the cookies (quick and simple) qnd make the cakes (much more time consuming) #ok so i start making the cookies right. and im going over the number i need a million times in my head. i wrote it down. #it was very simple math but i rechecked myself a bunch. ok. #i needed 24 baked cookies. to make 12 each. of the same design cookie but iced with 2 different colors. #very simple right????? apparently not #bc at some point.... my brain decided.... i needed 24 of EACH COLOR.......... so i made a big batch of dough....... #then i was like...... hmmmmm...... wait....... i did the simple math about 37 more times...... no yeah that's too much dough #ok WHATEVER. more dough for extra cookies!!! i was low on some number cookies ill make a few numbers cool great #but then i looked at the message of what my boss had asked me to do again. and even better news!! #the new cake designs (that i was supposed to start next) have cookies on top as decor!!!! great!!! i have a lot of dough!!!!! #so. i was like. im gonna cut out a few number cookies. then im gonna check exactly what kind of cookies to make for the cakes #and you know what i did..... i started cutting number cookies.... and i couldn't stop....i was like hmm actually i need a few more of those #ill cut out some extra number 6s!!! to have :) #AND THEN I USED ALL MY DOUGH. frustrating how so many craft books have a section about "how to sell what you've made"

like on one hand i get it because the person writing the book has obviously made their craft a full-time job. and they might have some tips and tricks that might be useful, and there are people out there who might be trying to start a small business out of it

but on the other hand it's just exhausting and feels like another voice saying "what's the point of having a hobby if you're not going to monetize it"

people always gotta lot to say about comic artists and about how they need to be "posting more frequently" but you sit them down and tell them to do the same shit and suddenly they're "unprepared", etc. 🙄 yknow this shit doesnt get shat out over night, right? find a hobby in the meantime while you wait, goddamn.
