You wouldn't be able to put this in the poll because it's a major spoiler, but Basil hung his friend's (Sunny's) sister's (Mari's) dead body when they were 12, and stabbed Sunny in the eye when they reunited 4 years later, sending Sunny to the hospital. Sunny is still haunted and traumatized by the image of Mari's body hanging, and their friend group suffered a lot from thinking she'd killed herself, and yet the fandom just ignores this entirely. Because Basil likes flowers and has anxiety, he's painted as this silly little uwu soft boy who deserves to be forgiven for The Accident just as much as Sunny does. I'm sorry, Sunny was arguing with Mari when he pushed her away, and she fell down the stairs and died. That's completely not his fault. Siblings push each other around all the time. He couldn't have expected that to happen. But actively choosing to hang the body of someone you were friends with??? Bro??? Who does that, let alone a 12 year old? How could their friends be okay with that? I would forgive Sunny, but I'd never speak to Basil again. People are scared of enjoying characters who aren't completely morally pure, and it's like… Dude. It's okay. You don't need to justify anything. Get your brain out of the Tiktok gutter.

I really love Basil's character, or I did; I really like his complexity and how he was written in canon, but the fandom has now, unfortunately, conditioned me into being severely irritated whenever I see his face. This entire take will get me nailed to a cross by the Omori community, but so be it.

I feel like theres this inherent disgust people feel towards "male" bodies and "male" sexuality that permeates through so much of online lgbt communities its crazy. Especially when that sexuality or bodily expression is aimed towards women whether to transition to womanhood or to desire women in a sexual way its always labelled as predatory and perverted and evil.

U see it so often when people are uncomfortable with aro men who arent asexual and speak down on them like they seek to abuse or hurt people by using them sexually with no emotion involved, as if sexual relationships aren't a thing that exist and are respected but suddenly they're evil if one of the parties is aromantic and a man. Not to mention the disregard people feel towards ace men who may not want to participate in anything sexual but are forgotten or spoken ill of. Or the way terfs label anyone amab as predatory, seeking to emulate women in order to invade their spaces and take away their resources, to get closer to women because fundamentally, it always links back to them wanting to sexually use and manipulate things into their favor. Its fucking anger inducing.

I haven't posted my art in a while but I love drawing nudity and vulnerability, esp with my amab characters, so often nudity and sexuality and all this is warped and seen as disgusting and perverted and evil when the human body is a neutrally existing thing, not even a sexual thing, yet it's so stigmatized. Its so anger inducing to me i dont even know what to say about it it's just so fucking evil. (Not to mention the intertwinings with both of those examples of how arophobia and transmisogyny interact w those and exemplify the issue).

Moon being taller/generally bigger than Sig…normally i’m not feral over height differences but god theirs drives me insane

Moon loving the stars. I feel like after her collapse, they were one of the few things that brought her comfort. Within canon I’m pretty sure you can see the stars even during the day (they’re green too!! super cool) so she loves to study them and their movements. The rare occasions when the rain comes after night falls are her favorites, being able to see them more clearly in the dark always excites her. Going on a lil stargazing date would probably melt her heart !!

Sig being fucking whipped for Moon 😭 this is a fucking given but him being distracted and at Moon instead of the sky because she considers her prettier than even the starts makes me. AUGH.

(More general hcs below the cut so this post doesn’t become a million miles long)

Sig learns to knit and makes Moon a scarf and a couple cloaks after her collapse. He actually has a lot of hobbies because he doesn’t think the great problem is solvable, nor does he really care to solve it anyways. He even says he’s got “nothing better to do with my time” when Suns asks him if he’s going to purpose another messenger. Meanwhile Suns says “you have two options, do nothing or work like you’re supposed to” in terms of what to do with your time.

Moon loves picking Sig up/holding her/generally grabbing her n throwing her around because she’s actually quite strong and Sig is smaller than her. Sig does not mind in the slightest.

They’re both interested in bioengineering. Sig more so, but Moon mentons Rivulet’s interesting adaptations and knows a lot about the flora and fauna of the world. I think they bonded over this quite a bit.

Speaking of, Sig was also a more medical-oriented facility. Pebbles mentions that he “was not a medical facility even when the equipment was functioning” to hunter, so the iterators may have had more specialized niches as the generations went on. Therefore, she becomes the sort of defacto “puppet-doctor” of the local group, helping to fix things like broken joints or umbilicals after the ancients disappear. Also just the slag reset keys in general. I have a drawing about this I’m finishing soon so watch out for that hehe

Moon’s kindness absolutely rubbed off on Sig. When he first got put online, she interacted with him a lot as his personality core was still developing, and he picked up on some of her traits. In terms of age I see their group as Moon and Suns (gen 1), Sig and Chasing Wind (mid gen) and Unparalleled Innocence and Pebbles (final gen).

SIG TEACHING MOON STUPID GAMER LINGO AND UWU SPEAK CAUSES A DISASTER IN THE LOCAL GROUP CHATS. The first time she says “poggers” sends everyone into an uproar and Sig gets multiple DMs being like “WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS.”. Sig thinks it’s the funniest shit in the world.

Moon is a lesbian, Sig is a bisexual gender-fluid disaster. I’m sure you can tell from my rambles I use he/she/they/it pronouns for her.

Moon’s nickname for Sig is “doll”. “Little thing” is also a common one, since Sig jokes that his gender is just “thingy”.

re: hbo tlou, do you think that the softening up of Joel is going to give eventual show Abby a harder time when it comes to audience perception? it was already bad enough with the game version for a bunch of very loud players, and show Joel is so much nicer and more sympathetic of a person than game Joel, lol.

Yeah, I've wondered about this too. I think it's always going to be a hard sell, so it will be a hard sell even if they adjust Abby's plotline somehow to match. I'm not sure the reaction can be WORSE, partly because the reaction to the game was sooooo ludicrously OTT... I don't really know how it could be topped lol. Especially w the game leaks and the trans Abby nonsense.

I think there's also the possibility gamers are especially bad about this kind of thing, whereas general tv audiences are maybe more used to this kind of "twist" (or at least more likely to uh turn off the tv and not spend the next three years trawling the internet to hurl slurs at anyone who liked it).

Ignoring the audience for a moment and speaking just from a narrative POV, I do think they're putting s2 in a harder position. In the game, there's that moment where Dina and Ellie are hypothesizing and Ellie is like "man who knows Joel has countless enemies" lmao. In the show so far that wouldn't really be true unless we're relying *really* heavily on his entirely off screen and scantly touched on past.

I love the second game but I think its story would need much more rejigging to suit television than it did as a game -- lots of what I thought made it work ARE it being a game. So maybe however they adapt the story will account for the changes they've already made. I wouldn't be surprised to see an Abby cameo in the s1 finale, for example.... I'll be more surprised if we *don't*.

My biggest worry by far about s1 is that it might lean into or encourage the "well Joel knew a cure was impossible and did the ONLY MORAL THING" bullshit that totally guts the end of any meaning... and of course if tehy do THAT then suddenly the Abby storyline is an even huger leap because then uwu armchair scientist Joel was doing an inarguably moral thing with no net loss to humanity. People have already used ep 1 + ep 2's cold opens to justify this, so the show will have to do some work if it wants the cure to be plausibly on the table. Which imo it needs to be.
