It's the way that Jing Yuan could regale you with tales of his youth, of all the mischief he got up to and all the battles he fought, all of his struggles with learning the blade and mastering his element, and he could have so much to say and so many stories, especially ones of struggle and loss, that one almost can't help but think 'incredible, the general is being so vulnerable. How truly lucky am I.' And maybe one might believe they are special to be an audience to the Divine Foresight's tales.

But Jing Yuan will never tell you about the giggles and clumsy fumbling of hands and stolen moments in a hidden corner of the Luofu. He will never tell you about the warmth of that brilliant blacksmith's hugs, or the cool comfort of that incredible High Elder's embrace. He will never tell you about the rings tucked under his shirt. He will never tell you about the old weapons room in his abode, that museum and tribute to just a fraction of his beloved's work and achievements, the fraction Jing Yuan could only salvage because they belonged to him. He will never tell you about the days spent sitting in a cold prison on the other side of the cell, talking aimlessly, desperately, trying to stave off the silence that he knew would be his only response. He will never tell you about the shouting and insults hurled at him as he marched out the door of his family's home, barely over 13 years of age, not looking back even as he flinched when the door was slammed shut behind him. He will never tell you about the grief he had to discard after defeating his own master -- more of a nurturing figure to him than his own parents had been -- because there was too much work to still be done, there was no time to rest, and as a newly appointed general he could not feel for a traitor, no matter who they might be. He will never tell you about those countless times he grappled with the idea of survival and the guilt that came with it, time and time again, when everyone who made up his world was lost or no longer themselves. He will never tell you about the ache in his right eye, or how he got it, or the helplessness and isolation that plagued his every step upon witnessing the inevitable. He will never tell you about the wave of despair that washed over him the first time he held that tiny infant with eyes so remarkably like his, not only at the fate of the babe but because he knew instantly that he was going to raise this boy, and he could only regret that he no longer had his partners by his side to raise the boy with. He will never tell you about who ordered the construction of those jade dragon fountains, the one in the gardens behind the Palace of Astrum and the one in Locufox Forest, and who they might be a tribute for. He will never tell you about Snowmoon.

He will tell you so much about death, and fear, and loss, and battles and sacrifices and suffering and yes, he will tell you about his favorite foods and his favorite memories of Yanqing growing up and his own fuck-ups because he has so many, truly, and he will offer you slivers of his doubts as a younger soldier and his dreams of yore and there is so much and still it is only a tiny fraction of who he is, the only fraction of him he is willing to share.

If he were to ever divulge in the rest, what would you think of him? The general was (is?) in love with two of the Luofu's greatest criminals. Would you think him weak? Pity him? Despise him?

Would you wonder if you ever really knew him at all?

One thing I enjoy about Jade is their intimacy! Jade can be herself around Ben, who in turn has someone who genuinely supports him. I also like how you don't make Kai a romantic rival and have her and Jade be friends as opposed to fighting over a guy so that's also a plus!

Galahdian Gemstones

@secret-engima because headcanons (and I’d like your input on gemstone selections). Two sections - headcanons on Clan Stones, and some history stuff.

-Clan Stones.

-Like Clan Colors, each Clan has a gemstone or pair of gemstones that identify them. These stones are worn in their Clan Braid, usually the first bead in the braid (though some Clans wear theirs at the end, like the Ostium joiners or the Furia), followed by personal beads.

-Certain Clans do share one of their Stones, but each Clan has at least one of their stones unique to them and them alone that serves as their main Clan Stone. So, from the top to the bottom (not including pictures because this post is long enough):

-Altius: Chalcedony/Sunstone. There aren’t very many grey gemstones, but grey Chalcedony is very pretty, especially when banded (striped). For an orange stone, I headcanon sunstone because of my hcs of them being blood of Ifrit’s Blessed, and because it’s a very pretty gem. I headcanon sunstone being their main Stone, because they are one of two Clans that have Orange as a Clan Color. (Second choice for the Altius grey stone would be grey moonstone, without the blue sheen, to contrast the sunstone.)

-Arra: Alexandrite. The Arra are one of the Clans to have a single stone that represents both of their Clan Colors, as alexandrite (though in-verse it’s probably called something different) changes color from green to purple depending on the type of lighting. A suitably subtle gem for a subtle Clan.

-Bellum: Carnelian/Dumortierite. Dumortierite is a pretty blue stone that I chose because of the name - dumortier is a French surname meaning death, though the in-verse name is likely different. Carnelian is their main stone since they are the only Clan with Red as a Clan Color (primary or secondary), and every Bellum is willing to Throw Hands at the drop of a hat.

-Bestia: Chrysoberyl. Again, probably a different name in-verse, but this pretty stone comes in both yellow and green. The yellow is likely their main Stone.

-Canere: Sapphire. Specifically color changing sapphire, which like alexandrite, changes color in different light. Color changing sapphire changes between blue and purple.

-Carduus: Moonstone. Blue moonstone is a silvery-grey stone with a blue sheen, representing both the Blue and Grey colors of the Carduus, as well as harkening back to their original Secondary Color of Silver. (My second choice for them would be Labradorite, which is a dark-grey stone with flashes of blue and green, though blue is the most common and what the Carduus would reserve for their beads.)

-Furia: Pearl. Pearls come in a variety of natural colors, though as a rule they tend to be fairly pale. I headcanon that the Furia are the only Clan to wear pearls as hair beads, and few outside the Furia wear pearls as jewelry, most of them being Lazarus, Arra, Praesidium, and the occasional Canere. Furia wear orange and blue pearls as their Clan Stones, and make quite the profit selling the white and pink pearls to the Mainland. 

-Khara: Purple/Yellow Jade. Purple jade (known as Turkiyenite) is only 40-60% jadeite and so not technically classified as such. However, this is fiction so we can do whatever, and it’s very pretty. The purple jade is their main Stone.

-Lazarus: Citrine/Quartz. Quartz comes in a variety of colors, including grey. Citrine would be their main Stone. (Alternate grey stone would be chalcedony, which they could feasibly share with the Altius, since chalcedony is really common.)

-Ornata: Lapis Lazuli. While mostly blue, lapis lazuli is known for its gold flecks. (While I really like this stone, I know it’s not necessarily a perfect fit, so another option could be topaz - which comes in both yellow and blue varieties.)

-Ostium: Tanzanite/Onyx. The Ostium are one of the only clans that place their Clan Stone at the end of their braid - the black onyx joiners are the hallmark of the Ostium Clan. Onyx also comes in green, which is what Ostium Braincells wear to designate that they’ve got an Ulric to cluck after.

-Praesidium: Azurite/Malachite. These two stones often form near each other and mixed together, resulting in a pretty and vibrant blue and green stone. Praesidium are the only Clan to have two Clan Stones they are known by, with azurite and malachite being worn in equal amounts alongside the azurite/malachite mixes.

-Tibiae: Quartz/Emerald. Contrary to what one might think, emerald is actually this Clan’s main Stone. Because that Clan needs a warning label, and it’s the only one they are going to give you. (Other options for green stones could be chrysoprase or peridot. Could also use chalcedony or grey moonstone for grey stones.)

-Ulric: Onyx/Charoite. Ulrics share onyx with the Ostium, the latter wearing it after picking up the Black Clan Color from the Ulrics. However, the Ulric main Stone is charoite. (An alternate purple stone is amethyst, but I think charoite is prettier and generally prefer semi-precious stones to precious stones.)

-(Astrum: Obsidian/Heliodore. Differing from the other Clans in that their Stones come from the Lucian mainland. Their main Stone is their obsidian joiner, similar to the Ostium.)

-History headcanons!

-Galahd is rich in gemstones and metals. Much like real-life Myanmar, Galahd has just about every kind of gemstone imaginable, with the exception of diamonds (which Galahdians don’t really wear anyway).

-As such, before the Burning it is very common for every Galahdian to wear precious and semi-precious stones for their braids and jewelry.

-Now, I headcanon that before Lucis folded Galahd into the Empire, mining was not a huge business in Galahd. Oh, it was definitely a viable profession, but the Clans didn’t use a lot of gemstones, and generally weren’t picky about what they did mine up. The best quality went to making beads, and the rest went to jewelry.

-After being ‘conquered’ by Lucis, well. Wealthy Lucians were highly interested in the ‘untapped resources’. Now, depending on how dark you want to take things, this could go a couple different ways. We’ll start with the least nasty, because why not.

-First possibility is that Galahd is able to dictate the trade of Galahdian gemstones. They present a selection for sale, and the Lucian traders buy what they want. Trying to pressure the Galahdians into offering more/higher quality Does Not Happen, because the first attempts are shut down hard by the Galahdians and the Crown slaps down any armed hostilities from breaking out because We Do Not Fight The Jungle Children FOR THE LOVE OF THE SIX. This likely results in some resentment from the Lucians and wariness from the Galahdians, but nothing too drastic.

-Second possibility, still fairly light, but a bit darker, is that the Lucians’ offers for high quality gems drives local prices up, making it harder for Galahdians to sell/buy their own gems. As such, local gems become much more scarce, until they are almost exclusively reserved for Clan Beads. This scenario is going to breed a fair amount of resentment from the Galahdians towards the Lucian mainland, specifically the nobility/wealthy.

-Third possibility, which is very dark, is that Lucian corporate interests manage to get a foothold in Galahd, and begin large mining operations - either with their own Lucian workers or with locals. Lucian workers would be paid more, lured by a promise of making money, but clashes between the workers and locals would be higher. Galahdian workers would likely be paid far less, and oh boy would that breed it’s own resentment, but there would be less possible conflict between Galahdians and Lucians, other than overseers management. This is going to breed a lot of resentment, to the point of possible outright rebellion from the Galahdians.

-Then we have Niflheim occupying Galahd. And things get a whole lot worse. Because Niflheim is only going to see the potential profit from Galahd’s gemstone resources and won’t care how they get it.

-In the darkest scenario, take that third possibility, and crank it up to eleven. Large scale environmental destruction, forced work in the mines, and pittance pay. Exploitation at its worst. Galahdians likely had to hide their Stones or have them confiscated by Niflheim overseers and sold overseas, and you can bet the Nifs would dig up the Galahdian dead just to get at those beads too. The Galahdians wouldn’t be allowed to keep any of the stones they mined either. Not even the inferior quality stone unsuited for jewelry - Niflheim would have dumped it in the sea just to spite them.

-(Look, there’s a reason Galahd hates Mors for pulling the Wall and leaving them to Niflheim’s ‘mercy’. There’s a reason the Galahdian refugees can’t go home, even after almost twenty years post-Burning. There’s a reason so many refugees left, even before the Burning. Why so many chose to fight for a mainlander king. Why so many Betrayed Regis when he surrendered to Niflheim. Why Luche and the others took Niflheim’s deal.)

-During the Occupation, there was probably resistance and rebellion everywhere Niflheim turned, until they decided to cut their losses and Burn it all. (Perhaps they were losing too many workers. Or perhaps they’d exhausted the mines and didn’t care to look for new ones.)

-In Lucis, any refugees likely had to sell their Stones just to survive. Those that didn’t wouldn’t be allowed to wear them if they lived in Insomnia, because of the Sumptuary Laws or for fear of being arrested on charges of theft. (And even if the charges were dropped, many of the stones confiscated as ‘evidence’ were coincidentally ‘lost’.) For those that lost their Stones, replacing them is near impossible - either they are too expensive, impossible to find, or in most cases both.

-Which is when carved and painted wooden beads become the norm.

Her favorite to use are vines which she ties up her victims in and sometimes combines them with rose branches, making them have thorns as sharp as knives. Wants to join Organization XIII. Has RWBY verse and a fandomless verse)

Final Fantasy XV/Kingdom Hearts:

Diana Fotieni (A lady knight who wants to be a Kingsglaive like her mother was but has no chance now that the empire took over. Diana is calm and friendly to friends but becomes serious in fights and upholding justice. Travels with a Moogle companion named Vico. Has a Kingdom Hearts verse where she is a keyblade wielder traveling with Vico. Also has Fire Emblem verse and a Fate verse where she is a Saber Servant.)

Pokemon:

Blair Mahou (Braixen Gijinka who thinks she is a magical girl. Playful and silly sometimes but mainly likes to help people with her ‘powers’. Likes to put on a show in order to gain reputation and hopes to get her own tv show)

Piper “Peeps” Tori (An Altaria Gijinka who has a disability that makes it hard for her to speak full sentences sometimes. She also loves to say Peeps or chirp and loves to give people hugs (even complete strangers). A bit of an odd ball but friendly to the core)

Marie/Aislynn (A nerdy girl who loves videogames, anime and manga. She loves to play MMOs and is a Shadow Warlock in Dot Hack. She roleplays in character in the game as a mysterious being who speaks poetically at times and loves to read fortunes.)

10B (A YorHa Battle unit who shows way more emotion than most androids. Loves to flirt and adores humans and androids, detesting machines. If she gets too attached to someone, she can come off as Yandere in a overprotective way.)

Kyana Aeira (A wannabe heroine with the Quirk to conjure fire. Easily excitable and tends to rush into fights without thinking, but wants to help the world. Has Multi-Hero Fandom Verse and a Overwatch verse. Also an Endeavor’s Daughter Verse. (all on Alt. Verse page))

Naruto/Fandomless:

Midori Ryu (Clumsy, overly shy, and faints at the sight of blood, Midori is probably the worst ninja in existence. But she wants to make her family proud, their ideals that dragons exist causing them to be a laughing stock in her village Specializes in fire and wind jutsu to mimic dragons)

Tia “Usagi” Faye (Bubbly kind of girly girl who loves to rollerblade and attends UA High School. Her Quirk is Electricity/Magnetism abilities, her hero name Usagi for her jumping tricks. Also has The World Ends with You verse where she ends up the in the Reaper’s Game after falling to her death trying to do an extreme rollerblading trick. Has a fandomless fantasy verse.)

Alyssa Astrum (A Celestial Wizard from the town of Hargeon with Chinese Zodiac keys. Loves to dress fashionable and can be kind of bratty. Has the Monkey, Tiger and Mouse Jade Keys. Currently looking for a wizard guild to join.)

Emilia Clarimond: (A young mage from a family of mages. She became the next in line to fight for the Holy Grail. Seems quiet and reserved but can be mischievous and playful. Fights with magic of the stars. Also can be fandomless)

Gwen Favete (Gwen is a rabbit Faunus and is part of Ursa’s team. She loves fashion, vintage things, and coffee. Shy at first but becomes chipper and excitable and a tad ditsy once she warms up. Semblance is the ability to summon weapons she can control in a telepathic manner with a baton.)

Chloe Thaleia (A trained thief from a family of infamous thieves. Playful, mischievous, but secretly a kind person. Looking for her older brother who left the family to pursue a different career when she was a child. Carries a magical greatsword with elemental powers. Occupation: Former student of Caelum, current apprentice for Laukei. Laukei’s lackey if u will.

About: Solist lived in Icosehedron where due to his intense social anxiety, never really reached out to anyone. His closest friend was Quinro Abenet, and he had a crush on Eniwiy. He studied magic at the magic school where Caelum was teaching. He was/is obsessed with stars and suns.

Growing tired of being ignored, and with several proddings from Quinro, he decided to fill a map of dangerous places for Eniwiy. Starting with Xian City. There he met Zhayuu, who cursed him to lose his memory every 24 hours. Every night he woke up with no memory of the previous day, but he still traveled on, Quinro acting as a long distance aide.

Eventually he traveled to Amityville, meeting up with Quinro, who didn’t want him to travel there alone. Unfortunately the jade reaper was a little shit and killed Quinro, throwing Solist into a traumatized spiral. He begged the nearest necromancer, Laukei, to bring his friend back and has been living/working with him since.

Nani here - does Sola get pulled into Dissidia?

Oooo, Dissidia AU!

Okay, bear in mind that the only bits I know of Dissidia are what @secret-engima has rambled about, but based off that-

-Sola doesn’t get called to Dissidia. No, during Sola’s life it’s Noctis and Ardyn who are called as Champions.

-No, instead it’s Phoebe who finds herself tripping into the middle of a dusty, dry red desert that’s honestly nothing like Leide. Finds herself sidestepping the decapitating strike from a silver haired man with cat-slit green eyes and a blade longer than the swordsman is tall. Finds herself following the man - Sephiroth, he calls himself - to the glowing red tower in the distance, the only spark of magic in a world on it’s last breath.

-Phoebe would very much like to know what the actual Pyre is going on, and she’s more than a bit insulted that she’s been lumped in with a bunch of nutjobs and murderers. Sure, Snow is less villainous and more... jaded and broken, but after him the next decent is Sephiroth, and he gives off an air far too similar to Sola’s memories of Ardyn. 

-It doesn’t help that the other Champions have been summoned in their various finery, while Phoebe is in her battered Hunter leathers. And while Phoebe is fairly certain she’s nowhere near the oldest, she certainly looks it, pushing fifty as she is. Though Phoebe does admit, side-eyeing some of her fellow Champions, at least she isn’t under-dressed.

-Then Phoebe learns of Materia and her Champions, of Order and Harmony, and Phoebe remembers enough of Noctis’ various video game rambles to realize that she’s essentially on the Villains’ side. 

-And she’s pretty sure she knows why. Which, okay, fair, but that doesn’t mean she has to like it.

-Now, to find out which poor sod got dragged into this mess as Materia’s Champion.

-Regis is not happy when he finds himself in a dusty desert that is most certainly not his office. He’s even less happy when he hears about why he’s no longer in the Citadel, and he has no compunctions making it clear to Materia his exact feelings on the matter. He has a kingdom to run, and a newly wedded wife and premature, newborn daughter to get back to!

-It’s his worry for Sola - born too early, born too small and monitored around the clock because the doctors don’t know if his little Sun will survive - that brings Regis’ fatherly instincts to the fore and by the time Materia’s Champions head out to find and battle Spiritus’, Regis is fussing over the half of Materia’s Champions who are eighteen and younger. The eighteen years olds - Firion and Terra - try to protest the treatment, but look, Cor is eighteen so there’s little they can do to stop Regis from slotting them into the ‘must protect’ category.

-Regis honestly has no clue who his counterpart in Spiritus’ Champions is supposed to be. He just... doesn’t have an archenemy like the rest of Materia’s Champions, certainly not like the WoL or Cloud. Someone from Niflheim, perhaps?

-It’s not.

-They run into some of Spiritus’ Champions, and Regis is fending off the Champion aiming for young Onion Knight - and trying not to look at how little she’s wearing, but it’s rather difficult when she’s attacking so insistently - when there’s a low, inhuman snarl and a glaive nearly spears the the woman from behind. The shattering of chimes, golden shards of magic and the woman has to dodge the fire and lightning aiming to utterly obliterate her.

-The battle screeches to a halt. Spiritus’ Champions stare at the redhead in battered leathers, their supposed teammate as she snarls at the scantily dressed woman. Materia’s Champions stare for an altogether reason, Regis included, because-

-“Phoebe?” He sputters.

-“Not now Regis.” Phoebe tells him, gaze not leaving her target as she spins her glaive and stalks forward with the lethal grace of a Coeurl. Her Hunter’s uniform disappears in a burst of golden shards, replaced by gilded black leather armor. “I have a would-be childslayer to deal with.”

-Phoebe’s target flees, Phoebe in hot pursuit. And Regis wonders when everything stopped making sense.

-Lightning glances at Regis’ shocked expression. “Not who you were expecting, I take it?” And all Regis can do is shake his head.

-No. Not at all. Not the magic, the oh so familiar pattern of lines tracing Phoebe’s face, a pattern altogether different than Regis remembers seeing on her, and the dark lines dripping from blackened eyes glowing red with the force of her fury.

-But he knows Phoebe. Perhaps not as well as he’d once thought, but regardless of her secrets the woman herself has not changed. Her protective fury is proof enough.

-So when Phoebe tracks them down, unarmed and in her Hunter leathers once more, eyes and face as Regis remembered from their first meeting, Regis waves for the others to stand down.

-“I assume she’s been taken care of?” Regis says after a moment.

-Phoebe’s satisfied smirk is answer enough. But she sobers only a moment later, shifting from foot to foot as she looks away. “I... guess you’d like an explanation.”

-“Not if you don’t want to give one.” Regis refutes immediately. He’s had the time to think about it, to stamp down on the shock and think rationally. Revelations aside, Regis has never had any reason to distrust Phoebe. Not when the woman has done so much for Regis, including facing down Gilgamesh to rescue Cor from the Immortal Shield.

-“Well, I’d like one.” Lightning interjects, crossing her arms and staring at Phoebe with narrowed eyes. The rest of his fellow Champions look no less suspicious. “Who are you?”

-Phoebe hums, and Regis would almost say the Elder looks amused. “I’m Phoebe, Chief of Clan Astrum and Regis’ kin.”

-“And the... incident, earlier?” Y’shtola asks. “Not that we aren’t grateful.” She hurriedly adds. “But it is... odd, for a Champion of Spiritus.”

-Oh, Regis knows the answer to this one. “Phoebe is Galahdian.” He tells them, echoing the words from years back. “Galahdians don’t tolerate childslayers. Or would-be ones.”

- Phoebe’s grin is less a smile and more a baring of teeth. “We execute them.”

-Which is pretty much the same thing Phoebe and Koios told Regis when he asked about it.

-Lightning looks like she has a headache. “So why are you Spiritus’ Champion?”

-“I’m considered Regis’ rival.” Phoebe shrugs. “If you want to be technical about it.”

-“Because you’re a candidate for the throne?” Y’shtola asks.

-“Ah, no. Not that.” Phoebe grimaces. “But the gods would rather Regis try to kill me, given I’m the Accursed.”

-Regis chokes. “You’re what?”
