Long awaited, here is the soil map of Skyrim using the Canadian System of Soil classification. Brief description of my conclusions under the cut:
Chernozem: Whiterun Hold is likely home to the majority of Skyrim’s Chernozems. The majority of biological carbon sequestering in grassland environments are below ground, within the root systems. Organic material- humus, builds up, causing the upper layers of the soil to take on a dark colour. Additionally, Solonetzic soils could be present, peppered throughout the hold if the parent material to the soil is salty enough.
Cryosols are formed in Skyrim’s far North and high alpine regions. The mean annual soil temperature being 0 degrees C, with permafrost conditions. Freeze-thaw cycles lead to permafrost at the soils surface, but also cryoturbation: soil movement arising from frost action.
Additionally in mountainous regions, you would find Regosols. Soils which develop on unstable landforms and have had little time to develop, such as mountain slopes, or river floodplains.
Gleysols occur across the landscape of Skyrim, but primarily in Hjaalmarch. Gleysols are commonly found in depressions or low-lying areas where water saturates the soil continuously, leading to a molted characteristic to the soil.
Organic soils would primarily be found in the water saturated soils of Hjaalmarch. These are wetland soils found in forested areas and are commonly known as peat, muck, bogs or fens.
Borrowing from the USDA soil taxonomy, Inceptisols are light colored soils with moderate alteration, occurring under cool and cold climates. These soils would be found in the Eastmarch caldera.
Luvisols are associated with forested landscapes overlying loamy glacial till, or on clayey lacustrine deposits. Lake Honrich dominates a large portion of the Rift, according to UESP, seemingly draining from the lake. I believe this to be the site of a melted glacier, the lake being meltwater. Clay sediments are associated with lakes because of their deposition, coarser sediments bordering the lake near the shore, and finer particles at the deepest reaches. Additionally, at the end of the Karth river, where sandy deposits would be deposited at Solitude, before the stream looses power further down the river, leaving only clay to be deposited.
Podzols are associated with igneous parent materials, coniferous vegetation and high acidity. Primarily they are found in Falkreath Hold and Southern Eastmarch.
Brunisols are an intermediate stage between Regosols (undeveloped soils), and Podzol or Luvisols. I believe with the unstable, mountainous landscape of the Reach, soils would remain still rather undeveloped. Brunisols would also be interspersed among the Luvisols.

SKYRIM MOD LIST, enb included
have fun!
note: some mods, though very few and for the most part insignificant, were found on the steam workshop. so if it doesn’t appear on the nexus, you’ll find it there.
some general advice for new modders/just reminders -
- always check compatibility. some mods have patches to use in combination with other mods. always read the description too.
- if you’re able, cleaning plugins is always good. i was never able to get a hang of it but that doesn’t mean you won’t have better luck.
- never, ever test mods with an actual playthrough. the chances of corruption are small, but there. start a new game; if you can’t bother with the helgen intro, use Quick Start to skip past it and begin at the cave exit instead.
- load order. can’t go wrong with LOOT or Wrye Bash. imo LOOT is easier to install and use but it’s all up to preference.
OVERHAULS -
Noble Skyrim (a HUGE overhaul of basically all exterior textures. but, if you don’t like the look this gives, i’d suggest 2k Textures for a more vanilla feel but in higher res, or Tamriel Reloaded - Textures and Parallax.)
Realistic Water Two (get the enb textures, with the watercolor effect too. they have a non-enb version as well, if you don’t use enb.)
aMidianborn retextures (i use almost everything. weapons, armor, creatures, dragonborn dlc, except the terrain overhaul. i also use the differently ebony and glass variants plugins, which basically mean that there’s multiple variants of the armor with the different retextures. they’re so cool, it’s a must.)
RUSTIC ( i also use almost everything from this too. alchemy/enchanting tables, daedra, death hounds, dinnerware, east empire company signs (i really don’t know why), elder scroll, monuments/tombstones, nordic murals, pottery, silverware, standing stones, windows, and word walls.)
Immersive College of Winterhold
Book Covers Skyrim (best book cover retex ever.)
More Interesting Loot (adds in so many artifacts/ingredients/loot from previous games it’s unreal. love it.)
Realistic Room Rental Enhanced (a SERIOUS overhaul of inns and stuff. lets you rent rooms for followers, discounts for extended stays, and makes them look nicer! oh, washtubs too.)
Immersive Roads (amazing. beautiful. incredible.)
RSChildren (children remodel)
Moonlight Tales
Breezehome Fully Upgradeable (okay this too. makes breezehome huge. like, now you can have a markarth style tub upstairs, and a decent room for lydia too. plus a secret library, and another way to enter/exit your home outside of whiterun. and a lot of other stuff i’m too lazy to list right now.)
SMIM (DEFINITELY use some sort of installer for this. killed me when i tried to manually install it. totally optional, though.)
Ruins Clutter Improved
Thane Weapons Reborn
GRAPHICS -
Unique Grasses and Groundcovers (Verdant does a great job too.)
Hybrid HD Plants and Herbs Retexture (Tamriel Reloaded flora are gorgeous as well, so are the ones from Skyrim Flora Overhaul.)
AOF Detailed Mountains (my pref, but honestly, almost all of the mountain retex mods are amazing. go wild.)
Designs of the Nords Banners (the sickest retex of banners. ever.)
Skyrim Landscape Overhaul - Stone Walls (the BEST thing you will ever see. note, if used with Immersive College of Winterhold you don’t need the corresponding patch. at least, if this is the only SLO mod you’ll use.)
SLOD Wine Cellar (y'ever have an in-game crippling alcohol addiction?)
SLOD Potions/Poisons
Gemling Queen Jewelry
Barenziah’s Glory (crown and jewel retexs)
Unique Uniques (the reworks are absolutely gorgeous. i can’t even describe them. at this point, unique is an understatement.)
Bellyache’s Dragon Retextures (they’re the hell spawn of akatosh, gotta make ‘em look cool somehow)
Apophysis Dragon Priest Masks (holy mother of god, these dragon priest retextures are beautiful. if you’re more into a horror theme, Unique Dragon Priest Masks will definitely satisfy you)
Natural Eyes
Coverkhajiits Male/Female
Dawnguard Rewritten - Arvak (so many arvak retextures here, pick and choose what you want)
Makers Mark Ingots (an ingot retexture, with minting seals/stamps on them. beautiful.)
Better Shrouded Armor (okay, this. this. if you look at the vanilla armor and say, i hate this, then you’ll love this. the armor becomes more of an armored robe with black/brown touches, and the signature hand print on the front. it’s just cool.)
Stormcloak Revival (awesome retex of the armor)
Nightingale Prime and Nightingale Pride (a retexture for armor and blade/bow, respectively)
Windhelm - Legendary Kings
Alternate Summoning Visuals
Tenets Restored (so you can actually read the damn things)
Auriel’s Bow Retexture
HD Linens
QUESTS/NEW LANDS -
Falskaar
Shadow of Morrowind
Summerset Isle
Beyond Skyrim - Bruma
Beyond Reach
Voyage to the Dreamborne Isles
VIGILANT (there’s an english voiceover and a guide as well in the files section of the voiceover)
Project AHO (you need this. you do. the quest, the npcs, the oh god, everything, is so amazing. download it.)
Carved Brink (from the makers of Project AHO, equally amazing.)
Wheels of Lull (this was the best existential crisis i’ve ever had. funny, immersive, challenging, and very, very real, i’ll be at your door in a fortnight if you don’t install this mod.)
Aethernautics (with Wheels of Lull integration patch)
Gray Cowl of Nocturnal (want some oblivion nostalgia? here you are.)
Spectraverse - Magic of the Magna Ge
Dwemertech - Magic of the Dwarves
Ravengate (underground pit fighting, hell yeah!!)
The Tools of Kagrenac (morrowind fans wya. i have never played morrowind.)
Moon and Star
The Forgotten City (gonna be getting its own game on Steam by the same name!)
Fight Against the Thalmor (all 4 parts linked)
Sinister Seven
Konahrik’s Accountments
Blackreach Railroad (trains. that is all.)
Legends of Nchuak
The McMiller Chronicles
The Notice Board (ah, witcher fans might like this.)
The Paarthurnax Dilemma (for obvs reasons)
Localized Guild Jobs (finally, choose the city you want to do a thiefy job in.)
Missing Apprentices (a college quests never implemented in-game. there’s also another mod for another cut quest called Research Thief, but i don’t use that one.)
Barenziah Quest Markers (am NOT using the wiki again to find those floaty bastards. there’s a mod that puts the stones in quest-locked areas in accessible ones instead, so if you plan on collecting them all and being done with it i suggest Non Quest Locations for Stones of Barenziah.)
Jiub’s Opus Quest Markers (not chasing these down either)
Arvak’s Skull Quest Marker (only available through steam workshop)
an addition, Wyrmstooth, though it’s no longer on the nexus and is known to corrupt save files and cause general issues (i found a version of it, though i’m not very keen on trying it after what i’ve heard. still, if you really want it, it’s not that hard to find.)
IMMERSION -
Timing is Everything (adds in delays between quests. just a little breather in between saving the world, if that even exists.)
Northern Encounters (if you love encounters and spent a lot of time in the snow for whatever reason, this is for you.)
Extra Encounters Reborn + DLC (when you love exploring skyrim, this’ll make your adventures super interesting.)
Citizens of Tamriel (on god this mod is so funny and immersive. if you download this, stop by the abandoned shack. you won’t regret it.)
Honed Metal (lets you hire a smith to temper/craft and enchant armor and weapons for you, so you don’t have to invest in the smithing tree.)
The Hunting Game (y’ever notice how pelts are like, worthless? yeah. this changes that.)
Organized Bandits of Skyrim
Better Combat AI (there’s probably a better mod for combat out there, but this is what i use. also from steam workshop)
Increased Merchant Gold Count (plenty of dif mods for this, all of them should work just fine. also on steam workshop)
Black Horse Courier Reborn (hey, remember the uhh, couriers in oblivion? well, they’re back, babey! the more quests you complete, different editions will be released to talk about the amazing last dragonborn, and there’s a (expensive as hell) book that you can buy from a courier that had all the editions from oblivion in one tidy leather-bound book.)
Take Notes (a journal mod!)
Celtic Music in Skyrim (a music replacer. it’s so calming and atmospheric, but if you want individual tracks replaced with ones of your own choosing, you can download Skyrim Audio Converter.)
Book Covers of Skyrim - Lost Library (adds in books from other tes games too, along with the fancy covers.)
Books of Skyrim (a book store in solitude.)
Touring Carriages
The Thieves Guild: More Thieves (only on steam workshop)
Thieves Guild Former Glory Enhancement
Regifting Lycanthropy: Infinite (on steam workshop)
KJ Tattoos and Lore Tattoos (needs RaceMenu to work.)
Loading Screens with Extra Sarcasm (beautiful mod. doesn’t ruin your immersion at all, actually.)
We Are Legion (nice legion overhaul. workshop exclusive.)
Immersive Patrols
All Merchants Buy Stolen Items
Realistic Crime Radius
Beyond Skyrim: Wares of Tamriel
Morrowind Imports (makes it so dunmer vendors will sell stuff like ash yams and sujamma, just a bit more immersive.)
Morrowind Border Trading Shack (workshop exclusive)
Staves of Skyrim
College Students
Better College Application
Night Eye Overhaul (good regardless if you rp as a khajiit or not)
Enhanced Cities: Docks of Solitude (workshop exclusive)
Towns and Villages Enhanced: Riverwood
Project Populate Skyrim: Winterhold (workshop exclusive)
Raven Rock Expanded
MISCELLANEOUS -
SkyComplete (lets you keep track of basically everything, including quests, artifacts, undiscovered locations and read books. update, it looks like the original file has been taken down. i do have a copy of the file should anyone want it.)
The Choice is Yours (fewer forced quests! woohoo!)
Jaxonz Named Save and Positioner (lets you have named saves, and reposition objects. the best mod for home decorating.)
Unlimited Bookshelves (put anything you want on those bad boys now! coupled with Jaxonz Positioner, the sky’s the limit to home decorating now.)
Follower Map Markers Complete (so you don’t lose them. again. also works for mod added followers.)
Bandolier - Bags and Pouches (you look really cool, and get a bit of extra carry weight too!)
Insanitys Celtic Katana
Better Training (no more level req bs here)
No Required Perks (workshop exclusive)
Lightweight Potions and Poisons
Lightweight Scrolls (because half a point for a scroll?! it’s paper, not rocks, dammit)
Weightless Soul Gems
Telescope
Thieves' Guild Bounty Clearer
Scoped Bows
Font Replacement (i use fertigo pro but you know, preference)
City Forests (just adds a few trees in a few cities, this, combined with Noble Skyrim and the enb i use makes all of my screenshots.)
Save the Dark Brotherhood (saves your tears, too.)
Hold Border Banners
Lost Books of Voryn Dreleth (adds in a few books, scattered throughout skyrim. i don’t know, they’re nice to read i guess. totally optional.)
Halls of Dovahndor (an amazing house mod set in…sovngarde! that’s new!)
The Library of Paarthurnax (always thought this was mad cool)

Big Leather Backpack (it looks cool. plus extra carry weight. bags are cool.)
Colovian Leather (just a lil extra set of armor)
Elder Scroll on Back
More Salt
Open Face Guard Helmets
Faction Crossbows
INTERFACE -
SkyUI (the menu layout give me a headache though, you can use SkyUI Away to restore normal menus)
Immersive HUD
A Matter of Time (compatible with iHUD)
Warburg’s 3D Paper World Map (forget the old poorly rendered map. a new paper one, a lot more simplistic and minimalist. but, if you do want the normal skyrim map, A Quality World Map is the way to go.)
Main Menu Background Replacer (oh, there’s a lot of these. so choose your favorite. but i like this best.)
No Bethesda Intro Logo or a replacer, the one i use was taken down but went by Ironclad Bethesda.
RaceMenu
Amazing Follower Tweaks
Follower Trap Safety (miiight be included in AFT, but not sure.)
FIXES/PATCHES -
USLEEP
Fuz Ro Doh (needed for some quest mods, something abt silent dialogue.)
No More Blinding Fog (if you have that issue)
Mindflux Particle Patch (if included)
Darker Dungeons for ENB (if included)
Revamped Exterior Fog
FOR ENB:
okay, here’s the thing. i’ve been modding skyrim nonstop for three years now. i’ve gone through, a lot of enbs. the big ones, the small ones. rudy, tetrachromatic, project enb, you name it. and here’s the one that i finally found that works great, lots of customizability, awesome fps, and looks fucking fantastic.
it’s called seasons of skyrim. easy install, easy uninstall if you don’t like it. nothing else. includes further darker dungeons as well as revamped exterior fog.
my configuration’s here.
but let’s assume you don’t want to use an enb. that’s fine! there’s a lot of other ways to get dynamic lightning too. i used to use Climates of Tamriel, or ELFX, or Realistic Lighting Overhaul. note that i’m almost certain that RLO hand places light sources, so i don’t know how altered cells would go. you might be able to avoid conflict by loading the changing mod after RLO? but i don’t know for sure.
if you want help with installing anything/with enbs or are new to it, i’m always down to help.
other stuff i use -
SKSE is an obvs one.
LOOT
Save Cleaner
7zip (it’s basically a free version of winzip. cause i’m not about to pay for anything, and i manually install everything.)
wow, you made it to the end? congrats! i spent longer on this than i did sleeping last night.

HOME
Prompt 7: Home Bthemetz/Kagrenac
NSFW (18+ minors do not touch)
On dull mornings where her wife had yet to wake, where she would like to imagine, if she lived somewhere normal, there would be windows splattered with rain and a blanket of cloud in place of a sky and she would sat cross-legged with a steaming cup of tea, wrapped in two or three more blankets than she needed, and picturing herself in that comfortable scenario, she took one step further, and tried to imagine what her home would be like.
It would not be grand. She was born in something closer to a hovel than a palace, and still felt a certain quiet unease in the city that now claimed her as their own, wandering across its wide, spiralling walkways with engraved arches that peaked like mountains and great domes that could contain a warring clan in its circumference. Instead, she wanted something small, but brimming with the details. Four walls, and a door, but bursting with patterns and shapes and smells and tastes.
She wanted circular windows draped with colourful beads as if they were stained glass raindrops ---
she wanted stone floors piled up with mismatching rugs spilling over with spirals and ovals and abstract shapes that curled up like seashells, oysters hiding pearls ---
she wanted plump cushions and blankets that felt softer than a dream ----
she wanted painted walls with poetry, gentle words about violet, her wife's favourite colour ----
she wanted shelves stuffed with embroidered spines of journals, artbooks, instructional manuals, great works of scholarship spilling from the shelves and fluttering to the floor---
she wanted well-worn maps with routes she had traversed circled in red, next to stuffed jewellery boxes agape, gold dangling, scarlet beads hanging loose, and an ornate old compass that had begun to tarnish, its needle would twirl and twirl in a dance without end, for the end was the home it had found itself in ----
she wanted surfaces covered in thoughts, plans, ideas, ambitions, heartfelt beliefs, bold proclamations, wandering thoughts curling into every corner of the page in her wife's looping hand, her slanting cursive near illegible to read except for those who knew exactly what to look for, who knew what gesture, what movement, however slight signified ----
she wanted a pair of hands to pull gently at her waist all the way down to her hips as if they were missing something and stray wisps of hair to curl down her shoulders as her mouth ran up the length of her neck to her ear to ask ---
“Why aren't you in our bed, Bthemetz?”
She sounded far less like she had just stumbled clumsily out of bed, in her imagination, though.
“I'm thinking about things.”
“Oh,” she said, as if she had just been told something thought-provoking. Then: “What sorts of things?”
“I'm thinking about home.”
“Ah.”
“I don't know where it is, Rena.” She turned her head and caught her eyes. As if to know they were still there. Her wife was watching over her with a gaze so steady that Bthemetz was convinced, she could hold her with her eyes alone, no hands or fingers required. “It isn't where it was,” she continued, her voice softening. “And it isn't here, I think.”
“It's not here.” Repeated, quietly, beneath her breath, softly brushing her shoulder.
“No,” she said, looking away, suddenly. “No, it isn't.”
They had tried. They had started with potted plants. Then a whole garden of delicious succulents and succulent flowers - which died, of course, there wasn't much in the way of sun to be found in the void, really. They changed the colour and fit of the drapery every month, they rearranged the furniture more times than she could count (Rena, however, being Rena, had an exact record somewhere. It was one hundred and seventeen). Then they tried art - which Bthemetz, admittedly, grew quite fond of, peering around galleries with her wife's arm entwined in hers, watching curious eyes peer at them, every once in a while taking her ear to her lips and whisper, for example, “I think ninety percent of abstract sculpture is nonsense,” as if it were the height of scandal. They had taken to collecting art, an erratic collection of brash colour, glossy texture, chiselled marble, painted glass, tempered brass shaped like wings that the gods had clipped from them, wall-hangings woven from stolen silken threads of fate and prophecy, threaded into portraits of her and her wife, entangled in each other, smiling knowingly, a secret kept between the two of them on their lips. They had covered every square inch, curated each and every millimetre until it was a garish mosaic of mismatching things they could call their own but it did not make this place feel anything less than what it was.
“I reckon,” she said, glancing back at those secure, steady eyes. “I would be happy with just four walls and a door.”
“And a roof?”
“A door first. A door, to leave, and come back to. It isn't really a home without leaving, because without leaving there is no one to welcome one home.”
Their dwelling was a scowling abyss in the void where starry skies could shift into spiralling stairs into grassy meadows into midnight again. But there was no door.
(No door, unless one was The Chief Tonal Architect for whom the boundaries of space and time were simple equations to play with and bend to one's will.)
“What if you get blown away?”
“Without a roof, you mean?”
She nodded gently.
“Then I shall thank the wind for not forgetting me in my long, long absence, and toss as many kisses as I can to the sky in thanks.”
A smirk, that could not help widen into a genuine smile, graced her face. “If I did not know better, I would say I might be envious of the wind.”
Bthemetz shook her head away again, hiding a grin.
“What is home to you, Kagrena? What would you most desire?”
A single hand reached up and gently ran down her jawline, as a gentle, unspoken request: look at me. She turned her head back to those eyes of her, glowing softly in the dark, an anchor of light.
“I would most desire you,” said Kagrenac, pulling her chin closer, “In my bed.”
A moment of quiet reigned as she felt her lips part in surprise. That hand of hers carefully moved upwards, her thumb brushed the space between them -- when Bthemetz took hold of it.
“Regretfully, my dearest, I must leave your bed at some point, if I am to achieve something of value in my days.”
“I think being in my bed is definitely of value,” she said, with the slightest pout.
Bthemetz laughed. “Then I would be very interested in hearing what clever argument you have planned to say in support of your case.”
She tilted her head, as if it was a curious thing, what Bthemetz had just said, before she decided that she was going to slowly tease almost-kisses along the length of her neck, before her fingers would idly trace gentle circles in that wonderful, nebulous in-between space between the waist and the hips. It was not until Bthemetz urged her to continue her fascinating counter-argument that those brilliant fingers of hers continued to tease their way down her body, circling lower, and lower, and lower, until she was brought to a place beyond description, led by the most careful, the most attentive hand, and was overcome with the utmost pleasure.
She did end up in her bed in the end. Her wife did tend to get her way, come to think of it. Bthemetz smiled at the thought of it, at the thought of her, this marvellous woman of hers who was now stretched out on the sheets, her chin aloft with a lazy hand, who was now watching her with the faintest trace of a smile of her own.
They didn’t need to speak. Sometimes, silence could be quite comfortable.
“I cannot and will not stop you from going where you please, whether it be dancing with the wind or serenading the seas,” she said, at long last. “I would only ask that you return, so that I can welcome you home at last.”
“You are being perfectly sincere, aren't you?”
That smirk returned. “I am always perfectly sincere.”
“Now if I didn't know you far too well, I might actually believe you.”
She snorted with laughter, revealing a rare grin.
“Home is where you are, Bthemetz,” she says. “As long as you would come back to me.”

Falmers (snow elves) /
"In the time before man, they were known as the Snow Elves. They lived in the sunlight and had a very prosperous society."―Enthir[src]
Tumblr media
A large statue of a Snow Elf found in Irkngthand.
Snow Elves (Aldmeris: Falmer), occasionally referred to as Ice Elves[1][2] or Ancient Falmer,[3]are a race of Mer that has nearly completely disappeared. During the Merethic Era, they were the main inhabitants of Skyrim, and had a very advanced society.[4]
It is commonly believed that centuries of underground living and Dwemer slavery twisted the race into becoming the blind, merciless and savage Falmer.[5][6][7]
The few known remaining Ancient Falmer call themselves "Snow Elf," and refer to those that are called by the modern term "Falmer," as "The Betrayed."[7]
History
Despite most of this civilization's history being lost, a surviving Snow Elf by the name of Knight-Paladin Gelebor revealed details about the fate of his race.[7] Gelebor explains that they were once a "proud and prosperous race," before the war with the Atmorans and their subsequent enslavement by the Dwemer.[7] The Snow Elves had a society that almost rivaled that of the Altmer from the Summerset Isles.[6] The Snow Elves also possessed a remarkable aptitude with magic, as can be seen with Arch-Curate Vyrthur.[4]
Merethic Era
Beginnings
Like all Mer, the Snow Elves are descendants of the ancient Aldmer. Unlike the other races of Mer, the Snow Elves retained much of the Aldmeri culture. When they separated from them is unknown.
The Snow Elves were originally a wealthy and prosperous society that made their home in portions of Skyrim. They were the first race of Mer in Skyrim and were present long before the first Atmoran colonies that were established by Ysgramor.[7][6] Their origin was part of the initial exodus of dissident Mer groups from the Summerset Isles along with the Dwemer, Chimer and Ayleids, although the only Mer to settle in Skyrim were the Snow Elves and later, the Dwemer.[8]
Peace with the Atmorans
When the Atmorans arrived from Atmora, the Snow Elves had a somewhat comfortable relationship with the humans.[9] Initial coexistence between men and Snow Elves was largely peaceful, though this was not to last, as conflict soon arose between the two peoples.[10]
Night of Tears
Main article: Night of Tears
Tumblr media
Saarthal in the Fourth Era.
The peace was short-lived, as an attack by Snow Elves destroyed the rapidly growing settlement of Nords in Saarthal. It was known as the "Night of Tears."[11][10] This raid on Saarthal caused the demise of the entire population of the city. However, Ysgramor and his two sons managed to escape the attack, who then fled back to Atmora. The death of his countrymen prompted Ysgramor to summon his Five Hundred Companions — the namesake and forebears of the Companions in Whiterun — and vow to return and drive the Snow Elves from Skyrim.
As they considered the humans to be a lesser species, the elves had little qualms about the slaughter they committed. This genocidal spree would be known as the Night of Tears.[10]
The Sacking of Saarthal
Tumblr media
Under Saarthaal
The Pocket Guide to the Empire, First Edition: Skyrim and Fall of the Snow Prince suggest the conflict may have been related to the rapidly increasing Nord population and a struggle for control over territory and resources, which took the form of a war of extermination—with both sides apparently pursuing the utter destruction of the other.[11][12] The Night of Tears as well as the Imperial Report on Saarthal suggests the conflict may have rather been more specifically related to, or escalated by the Snow Elves desire to control a powerful artifact uncovered by the Nord settlers and the Nords of Saarthal's desire to keep such power buried beneath the rocks and soil of their city.[13][14]
Later during the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, a Thalmor representative, Ancano, as well as the Psijic Order member Quaranir, took actions and made statements giving credence to the theory that this object, known as the Eye of Magnus, may have played an important role in the conflict.
Conflict with the Nords
Main article: Nordic-Falmer War
However, the decision to eradicate the Nords would come at a great cost - to their entire civilization - as Ysgramor survived the attack on Saarthal and returned to their homeland of Atmora to raise an army. Ysgramor and his army, known as the Five Hundred Companions, would return to Skyrim to take revenge on the Snow Elves. The series of events that would soon follow would be known as The Return, and with this return, a new warwould begin. As time passed, the Nords once again returned to Tamriel. They landed in Skyrim, and began a march across Skyrim under Ysgramor's leadership to avenge their fallen brethren. The elves would wage war with the humans for years, slowly losing to the very "creatures" they had culled in years prior.[12]
Battle of the Moesring
Main article: Battle of the Moesring
Tumblr media
The Moesring Mountains in Solstheim.
The Snow Elves were broken and scattered, following numerous losses to Ysgramor and his Companions, and retreated to the island of Solstheim for safe harbor. Led by an elf only known as the Snow Prince, the Snow Elves took a final stand against the Nordic people, inspired by their leader, to seek their victory anew. During the Battle of the Moesring, which was to be the last battle against the Nords, the Snow Prince was slain by a child by the name of Finna, who, in her grief after the death of her mother, threw her mother's sword at the Prince, which struck him in the breast and killed him.[12]
The death of the Snow Prince caused the elves' hope to be shattered, and many attempted to flee the battle. It is not known what the exact date of this loss was but it was towards the end of the Merethic Era.[12][15]
With the elves' military power destroyed, the Nords, then, mounted a genocidal campaign and killed the Snow Elves by the thousands.
Interactions with Sai
Following their defeat, the Snow Elf resistance was eradicated. Sai had agreed to help all living creatures of Nirn with his luck, and thus attempted to help the Snow Elves. He had to find them first, as this was not an easy task, for the few remaining survivors had vanished into hiding. When he did find them, he did not manage to win their trust and they refused his help.[1]
The betrayal
"We had always maintained an uneasy alliance with the underground-dwelling dwarves, and when faced with extinction we turned to them for help. Surprisingly, they agreed to protect us but demanded a terrible price... the blinding of our race. There were splinter groups that resisted the agreement, and even some that sought alternate alliances. But when it was all said and done, those elves were either slaughtered, vanished or gave up and took the dwarves' bargain."―Knight-Paladin Gelebor[src]
Eventually, the Snow Elves sought refuge with the Dwemer, in their underground fortresses. The Snow Elves had always maintained an uneasy alliance with the Dwemer, also known as Dwarves, and since the Snow Elves were experiencing the eradication of their culture, they turned to the Dwarves for help.
The Dwarves agreed to grant the Snow Elves refuge, but at a high price. They were forced to eat toxic plants in order to live underground.[7] This toxic fungus naturally came from Blackreach, and the Dwemer fed the toxic fungus to the Snow Elves.[5] The toxins gradually destroyed their sight, and this loss happened over generations. The Dwemer then forced the blind Snow Elves into slavery. Not all of the Snow Elves agreed to such a price. Splinter groups had formed to search for alternate solutions. These elves sought out other alliances, but, ultimately, most were slaughtered, vanished, or gave in and accepted the Dwemer's offers.[5][7]
Birth of the Falmer
Tumblr media
A Falmer
Over time, the Snow Elves began to devolve into twisted, blinded creatures, becoming the degenerate race now known as the Falmer. They were slaves of the Dwemer and over time, their history was lost as they became an increasingly primal people. Because of this, it is commonly believed that the Snow Elves were actually tricked into blindness and slavery, rather than having agreed to the situation to survive.[5] Although contradictory reports state that most Snow Elves sought the Dwemer's help and agreed to their terms to avoid eradication.[7][16]
Sometime later, the Snow Elves/Falmer revolted against their masters, which started a war that lasted decades. The full-fledged and bloody conflict was known as the War of the Crag. The war raged deep below the surface of Skyrim, unbeknownst to the surface dwellers, the Nords. Then, in 1E 700, the Snow Elves came to face the Dwemer in battle, but the Dwemer people had completely disappeared.[5]
The Dwemer's demise
Tumblr media
Red Mountain.
At that time, the Dwemer were also fighting another war against the Chimer, east of Skyrim, in Morrowind — the War of the First Council. This war, in Morrowind, was fought over religion, philosophy, and issues over ethics, technology, and magic. However the central contentious point was the fact that the Dwemer were in possession of the powerful Heart of Lorkhan. The war started in 1E 668, and in 1E 700, the Battle of Red Mountain took place in and around the Dwemer citadels on Red Mountain. It is reported that, as the battle was being fought, Kagrenac, the Chief Tonal Architect of the Dwemer, used his tools to tap into the Heart, which caused the Dwemer race to disappear.[17][18] The disappearance of the Dwemer subsequently freed the Snow Elves. However, years of enslavement and war had left them bloodthirsty and in a primal state.[5]
Some pockets of Snow Elf resistance remained, although, it appears that most were eventually eliminated. Skorm Snow-Strider's Journal discussed a military campaign against Snow Elf refugee forces as late as 1E 139 under the First King of Skyrim, Harald. Despite this, Gelebor believes there may be other isolated Snow Elf survivors scattered across Tamriel.[7]
By the 2E 582, the Snow Elves were a near-forgotten legend, and the ruin-dwelling Falmer remained hidden from the eyes of those on the surface.[UL 2]
The last of the Snow Elves
Tumblr media
One of the last known Snow Elf, Knight Paladin Gelebor
Not all Snow Elves suffered the fate of the Falmer: it appears that elves, such as Knight-Paladin Gelebor and various other religious followers, were able to evade death at the Nords' hands or their enslavement by the Dwarves. These last Snow Elves live in seclusion, and appear to have remained as keepers or guardians to their shrines.[4]
Gelebor shows pity toward his "primal brethren," whom he calls "the Betrayed." He also states that he rejects the name of "Falmer," preferring to be called "Snow Elves."[7]
The largest gathering of these elves were at the Chantry of Auri-El. However, after a massive raid by the Betrayed, Knight-Paladin Gelebor and his brother, Arch-Curate Vyrthur, seem to be the only survivors left there.[4]
It is unknown how many other Sanctuaries exist in Skyrim, where these Snow Elves may be found, but it should be noted that several tomes states that many fled Skyrim, and may probably be living in other parts of Tamriel or on different continents.
Religion
Main article: Snow Elf Pantheon
Tumblr media
Chantry of Auri-El in the Fourth Era, an example of the ancient Snow Elf architecture.
During the Merethic Era, the elves established monuments and shrines dedicated to their gods. Some of these gods are common Aldmeri gods, such as Mara. However, their chief-deity was Auri-El, also known as Akatosh.[7] One such monument is known as the Chantry of Auri-El, this monument was originally so large it covered an entire valley.[4] This chantry may have also been the epicenter of the Snow Elf religion, having several rituals for initiates who sought out enlightenment.[7]
Following the regression of their race into the malevolent Falmer, many of the elven priests, known as Prelates, were killed during Falmer raids. Subsequently, according to Gelebor, Auri-El evoked their spirits, allowing them to continue their work in Tamriel as "spectral Prelates" at the wayshrines.
One of the rituals of the Snow Elves required the initiates to visit each of these wayshrines on their paths to enlightenment.[7]
It appears that these 'spectral Prelates' are unaware of the disrepair of the chantry and will not respond to anyone, unless that person is on the path of the initiate, and possesses the Initiate's Ewer.[4]
According to Knight Paladin Gelebor, they worshiped the following gods:[7]
Auri-El
Trinimac
Syrabane
Jephre
Phynaster

The Irkngthand Snow Elf Statue
In the Fourth Era, during the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard, two living Snow Elves were encountered; Knight-Paladin Gelebor and his brother Arch-Curate Vyrthur, as well as five 'spectral Prelates,' none of whom are female.[4]
Their appearance is very similar to that of the High Elves, with the exception of their skin and their hair, which is white. As the Chantry did not enter disrepair until after the fall of the Snow Elves, it is unknown how long Snow Elves live. As Gelebor stated, the Chantry was in disrepair long before he arrived. Thus his age cannot be fully determined.[7]
The Snow Elf's life span
Similarly to their cousins, the High Elves, they have a rather extensive lifespan. Attesting to this, the report that Arch-Curate Vyrthur brought about the prophecy of the Tyranny of the Sun, that, much later became the obsession of Harkon. There is also the fact that Gelebor and Vyrthur were alive before the rise of the Alessian Empire, as Serana mentioned not knowing about the Empire, she was, thus, imprisoned before Cyrodiil became the seat of an empire.[19][20]
From what is known, Gelebor and Vyrthur are at least over 4,000 years old. Due to the fact that the Snow Elves worshiped the god Phynaster and are very similar to the Altmer, in comparison to the other races,[7] it is, also possible that Gelebor had his life extended directly from Auri-El.[4]
Return

Tumblr media
A Falmer at the surface
There is speculation that the Falmer will eventually become a surface-dwelling race once again.[5]In 2E 582, the Falmer remained dormant, keeping quiet within the Dwarven Ruins for centuries to come.[UL 2] By 4E 201 however, there are reports of increasing organized surface raids from the Falmer; attacking cattle and crops, abducting civilians, and killing travelers and explorers who would venture too close to their dwelling.[21][22][23][24][25] There have also been cases where they have broken through underground tunnels into habitations and decimated those that lived therein.[26]
Reports from Dwemer ruin explorations reveal that the automated guardians that the Dwemer left behind are keeping the Falmer from escaping the depths of the ruins, causing them to resort to digging tunnels and find other exits.[27]
During the events in The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard, the Dragonborn, while seeking Auriel's Bow, meets two living snow elves. The first one, Knight-Paladin Gelebor, who owns the bow, believes that his brother, the other living Snow Elf, has been corrupted by the Falmer. Gelebor proposes to relinquish Auriel's Bow if the Dragonborn defeats his brother and ends his reign of terror.
Gelebor also mentions that the Falmer are becoming more intelligent, and if a line of communication could be established, relations may improve. Furthermore, Gelebor hopes that the Falmer will one day end their ways of hatred, and even begin to worship Auri-El like the Snow Elves once did.[7]

The Elder Scrolls.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon).
Tumblr media

Bthemetz was not born in those haunted cathedrals carved from old bones. Bthemetz was born in a hovel in the dark and was expected to carry a pickaxe until her back burried under the weight of it. This is not a dramatic reveal but simply a statement of fact. The scholar-priests clung to auri-el's hierarchies in lieu of his ashes: there were those who spoke, those who watched, and those carried tools. Bthemetz's father carried his masters' tools until he died in a pit at the age of thirty-seven; his body was almost too mangled to recognise.
So technically, while yes, Bthemetz was a scholar-priest of the first dwemer cities, that is because she began stealing books when she was twelve, blagged her way through the clerical examinations when she was eighteen, snuck into debates above her rank when she was twenty-two, started teaching people to read when she was twenty-five, crafted and formulated her own theories and philosophies on the links between the earth bones, , and the aubris that were published in an illegal journal. All of this lead to her persecution, exile, daedric visitations, revelations, return, republishing of her thesis, rioting and revolt, occupation of the cathedrals, before finally, her capture while the city was under siege by every other revolutionary that the priesthood had neglected to antagonise. She was thirty-seven. She was executed on a Morndas, the same day of the week her father died. Except execution was considered too good for Bthemetz - the woman who wanted to read - the woman who dared to want for more than die in a pit, unnoticed, leaving her mother with nothing but grief. Instead, as part of some desperate pact with an et'ada, they had sealed her in the smallest pocket of the void, away from her beloved nirn, alone. Forever.
(She had slept for most of that time, alone in the void. Years passed like hours that way.)
When a rather dazed, and weary looking thirty-seven year old tonal architecture student named Kagrenac wanders into her pocket dimension by accident over two thousand years later, Bthemetz watched her jaw fall out of her mouth. Not simply in terms of shock, but rather, Bthemetz did not stop talking for about forty days.

Currently reading through the lore contributions of Loranna's RP. Some highlights:
Helseth has clipped ears. One is due to his sister Elysana biting it off, the other he clipped to match.
"Helseth wore an ancient crown of the Chimer, with five points curving inward like blades, supporting one in the middle: what it symbolized in the elder days was debatable, but today it meant Five Houses Under One King."
Ald Raathim, which is under the control of House Dres
Mantling of Nirn itself
Tattoo enchantments (one Dunmer character has tattoos around his arm to protect from vengeful ancestor spirits, vampire hunters commonly have tattoos to protect against undead)
Altmer weddings last half a day
Firsthold has a mask season where everyone wears costumes

Though this was hardly the first venture Drelayn had taken into dwarven ruins, it was perhaps the first in which he had seen no constructs. The utter silence of the place was unnerving, to say the very least of it- Never had he been under stone halls that did not sing of gears and steam. Never had he been so alone with his thoughts, where the only noise was the light-footed tap of his boots on stone as he ventured deeper down in search. What, exactly, he was searching for, he wasn't certain of, but he knew it had to be down here- Or was, at one point. He backed himself to a wall to take out the journal once more, reading it over.
I hide this journal far from her so that perhaps, she survives the fallout of my actions, but I can no longer abide by our Chief's vision. It is true that the heart can do incredible things, but to forge ahead as recklessly as we have done without understanding its consequences is going to lead to irreparable damage, damage I cannot, in good faith, know that I helped enable. Kagrenac is different, changed, and though it is subtle, I can still see it. She was my friend, of course, before... This.
But I cannot lament what is already lost. I will simply have to protect what isn't. I spoke of the wonders the heart could work. A mechanical life- Not the animunculi that patrol the halls and maintenance the pistons, but true, thinking mechanical life. She is borne of the beat's power, and I can only hope that a mechanical mind will perhaps resist what ours cannot.
She is my Vision.
The Dwemeris was hastily written, and it was at times difficult to read, the diagram and map below it even moreso. It had taken longer than he cared to admit to fully translate and make sense of. He shut the journal and slid it back into his bag with a sigh, then looked around the ruined halls. The scrapped remains of a sphere were strewn across the tile, but he knew they had laid there for many hundreds of years- This place was torn apart by its own inhabitants, not some tomb-robber.
He stood back away from the wall once again, shaking his head. He didn't have all day to spend here, as much as he would like to take his time, and the sheer silence of the empty halls had set deep unease in the pit of his chest. It wasn't further from where he'd stopped when he came upon what must have been his destination. The room matched the description in the journal's map- A study that was surely inconspicuous to most, though in much worse a state than the owner must have thought it would be found in. The stone chair was overturned and crumbled, and strewn, twisted bits of scrap metal littered the floor. Drelayn was quick to push out the thoughts of what may have happened down here as he knelt down to look beneath the desk.
Just as he'd expected, a small switch laid under its surface against the stone, and though it initially stuck in protest, it soon sunk in with a grinding click. The stone wall beside the desk shuddered and ground as it slid along tracks to the side, revealing a hidden storeroom behind. Untouched and untreaded for hundreds if not thousands of years, it was nigh spotless save dust and cobwebs that had accumulated over the years- Cobwebs that for the most part, strung and dangled from a dormant, but perfectly intact dwemer animunculi, the likes of which he had never seen before. Brass as any other, it was similar in stature to a sphere in terms of proportions, though boasted a slightly more recognizable face, and more importantly, legs, rather than a gyroscopic base. It sat supported by a small set of wires that kept it from falling over in its inactive state, and before it, a small note was scrawled in Dwemeris.
A Vision can do great things, or terrible things. Please, guide mine well.
As soon as he'd removed the note from its place, the construct sputtered to life, and the sudden return of noise and steam to the underground halls caused the Dunmer within them to jolt upright in defense. In the same breath he took to speak, he found himself holding it in a mix of bemusement and uncertainty. It didn't attack him. It had most assuredly seen him, as in a few strides, it had come up to inspect him, curiously, bending down much like a mage studying the facets of a subject. Except the subject, in this case, was a Telvanni well past his youth, and the mage was seemingly an animunculy with more awareness than half the apprentices he had taught in his entire lifetime.
And then it spoke. She spoke. Speaking wasn't, perhaps, the correct term- It was a communication that Drelayn felt that- for all intents and purposes -he had no business understanding. But crystal clear it came with no regards to his reservations, like a second voice in his own thoughts.
What are you?
Drelayn peered back at her, ever so slightly inclining his head with a curious twist forming in his brows. He allowed his metal hand to come up from where he had tucked it into his robes, gesturing in turn with an open palm.
"...I would ask the same of you, Nchuth."

((Just a heads up, I have changed my blog title from White-Spectre to Kagrenacs-journal. Just in case anyone was confused. Avatar will remain the same. I just felt like it was a more general title, as White Spectre is sort of what my OC is called and this isn’t much of a rp blog.))
