Made a second version of the drawing I did for @keikakudori 's color scheme request since I wanted to see just how cool I could make it! So yup, color correction, textures and a filter on top of that! For once I really like the end result!

@keikakudori // continued from here.
RANGIKU WAS HAVING AN INCREDIBLY HARD TIME HOLDING HERSELF BACK. Just the sound of Aizen Sōsuke's voice was setting her on edge —--- a nails on chalkboard, grating sort of thing it was. His reply to her mention of poisoned tea came across as snide, and thus, forced her eyebrows to knit together as she regarded him. A romantic cliché, he had said... and while he seemed so sure that such methods weren't his style, Rangiku wasn't convinced. For how many times had his words been laced with venom? The confessions shared by her comrades used against them when the moment had been just right... not to mention the way he had poisoned Hinamori Momo; a romantic cliché all on its own, though perhaps not quite as literal as a lethal drop mixed into a cup of hot liquid.
The blonde had been there to pick up the pieces of the gobantai fukutaichō, even as her own heart was left broken in the aftermath of their betrayal. Momo had worn her heart on her sleeve... RANGIKU KNEW EVERYTHING THAT AIZEN HAD SAID TO HER, HAD DONE TO HER —--- was this man even remotely self-aware?
❝ You know what, you're right —--- you'd much rather do the stabbing yourself. Twisting the knife and making sure they hurt in all the worst ways... nothing impolite about that, right? ❞ Rangiku couldn't control the way she spat out such hostility; seeing him again had truly brought out the worst in her. A raging sun, she was —--- her heat blazing and oppressive as it worked to snuff out everything in its path.
There would be no shadows, here. No secrets, or doubts... not anymore. Not if she could help it.
Rangiku took a moment to steady herself. She would never learn the truth if she kept villainizing him... after all, a cornered animal was never quite eager to place it's trust in the one hunting it. With a slow, deep breath, Rangiku prepared herself for the more difficult aspects of this conversation. The topic of Gin had never been an easy one for her to discuss, much less openly to the one who had attempted to kill him. So much of their affair had been private... words left unsaid, unspoken, as they had poured their trust in one another. A trust that was left utterly broken, now, but that was beside the point.
She did not miss the way Aizen flinched at her mere mention of Gin's name. It almost seemed like the man had grown hesitant in response —--- his confidence waning as he stumbled over his words. It was so unlike him, Rangiku thought to herself... and upsetting, at the same time.
Gin had meant something to him, hadn't he? He was more than just a blade at his side, ready to kill for him...
Rangiku suddenly felt sick. Anguish churned in her belly, alongside the scorching heat of her anger, making its way up her throat like bile. She pushed it down as best she could, and worked tirelessly to slacken the balled up fists at her side.
She had avoided these truths for so long. She had known something was off, from the very beginning... and yet she never asked Gin what was wrong, or what he was hiding from her. She was too afraid of what he might say. Even now, as she stood upon the precipice of the answers she sought, she was absolutely terrified of what she might hear. But these answers weren't just for her own sake... they were demanded by Central 46, and the sōtaichō himself.
Rangiku sank to the ground, knowing fully well that she needed to be seated in order to carry on with this conversation. She crisscrossed her legs and grasped her knees as her gaze fell from the crucified man, only to seek out imperfections within the floor. Rangiku listened intently to the words he spoke, and noticed the way pain bled into each one —--- Aizen's tone utterly wrought with grief. Perhaps he had been tormenting himself, all this time... though Rangiku was hard pressed to feel any sympathy towards him.
'Will you believe me?' he had asked. 'You must be willing to accept what you will hear.'
Tumblr media
❝ I'm not willing to accept anything but the truth, ❞ she replied quietly, though still unable to meet his gaze. What she hadn't anticipated, however, was Aizen's version of the truth... and how corrupted it seemed to be. His claim that he was not himself when he struck Gin down made her want to burst out laughing. Who else was there to blame for all of this? Did it make him feel better, to blame it on the corrupt power of the Hōgyoku? The one he alone had chosen to merge with? This was a self-inflicted fate; one Aizen could have avoided entirely, had he not been so hungry for power. At least, as far as Rangiku was concerned.
❝ —---You're still not telling me why. What caused you to turn on him? You say you weren't yourself, but how am I supposed to know what that means when I don't trust that I EVER actually knew who you were? ❞

💗 go ahead, hit me with as much angst as you want for our muses. and anger. <3
He knows how she feels about him. Hiyori is staring at him with large, accusing eyes. “I hate yer guts, Sousuke.”
“I … hate everythin’ about ya.” How often would she repeat these words filled with venom? She has said it so many times over the past 100 years. To him. To herself. To everyone she meets.
But once upon a time, she did not feel that way about him. This man who thought he had fooled everyone with his lies and acting… he wasn’t that good an actor. He seems to think he is a scientist and the rest of the world are his test subjects. His experiments. They are not human. They are not even worth thinking about…
But she knows that is not true. Because he did think about them once upon a time.
Even if it was a very long time ago… almost to the point that the memories were blurring a little… she remembers the genuine smile he wore at times around her. The way he would hide his amusement in his eyes when she would call Shinji out on his laziness. Or the way he patiently taught her how to make a beautiful piece of artwork for Kirio in his expert penmanship. Under his guidance, she had created art.
All those memories where he had been her friend. The gifts, the laughter, the missions, the danger… they had shared so many things. He had been someone she had vowed to protect.
That is why, when they came face to face again - - she had to let him know why she wanted to kill him. He had to know. She was desperate to tell him the exact reason why she was going to kill him.
Once, Shinji had scolded her for the amount of space Aizen took in her heart. To keep thinking of him like that, even if it was out of fury- - it meant that there was no space for love to enter into her heart.

The old adage, ❛ Whatever can go wrong, will ❜, holds true as ever.
Being short. Having blonde hair and teeth too big for his mouth. Expectations taken and then scraped against the wall like bug guts stuck to your hand. These are all just aspects of Shinji's lived experience. His fate is that of traversing a Möbius strip────same track, different angle. Sometimes it's upside-down. Somtimes it's him. Sometimes it's someone else. But it always loops right back around to some fucking grief.
The Jigokuchō flutters away, the bad news unburdened from its glossy black wings.
Welp. Time to get to work.
Shinji leans back in his chair with a heavy sigh, pinches the nose bridge of his glasses to pull them off of his face. Tosses them into a desk drawer haphazardly, slams it shut. Stands.
In his vanity, there is only one person who knows that Captain Hirako even needs to wear reading glasses while he does his paperwork. For better or for worse, said person did not take this secret to the grave. Though the same cannot be said for five out of seven Shinigami placed under his command for a routine hunt in the World of the Living...
Lieutenant Sosuke Aizen is, as he ever was, a beacon for Hollows, and that's on Shinji.
He's going over everything in his head as he makes his way for the door: there's contacting the families, making the funeral arrangements, writing the reports, preparing the speech to keep Division morale up...though that last part seems a bit excessive, if you asked him; anyone who thinks that they're ready to be a Shinigami must also be prepared for the inherent dangers that come with it. But there is only so much that the individual weakness, incompetence, and ignorance can be blamed for. No one wants to speak ill of the dead, but everyone needs someone to point their fingers at. And anyone who thinks that they're ready to be a Captain must also be prepared to be the scapegoat from time to time.
Tumblr media
Shinji's fingers are hooked in the lattice frame of the shoji door leading out of his office, but he freezes, sensing a familiar presence fast approaching. Another sigh, and he takes a step back, folding his arms over his chest, waiting.

@keikakudori (an attempt to fix our stuck in legacy thread) from here!
How long had he held his breath? Waiting, hoping, saying a prayer to whatever higher power there was that the man before him would take pity on him. Would see a reason to help. Sado may have been a mere human, but here he was. Happy to throw himself at the feet of a God if it meant one small piece of his heart could continue. If he lost everything, if his body could no longer handle the fight, but Uryu came out of this conflict safe? He would die happy knowing he had done one good thing.
You'd die to save him, wouldn't you? To keep him safe?
"Without a second thought." His words held nothing but conviction, honesty. He had sworn to fight for Ichigo the same day they promised to fight for each other. But for Uryu it was so much more. He would fight for him. He would die for him. Because there was no world where he survived and the other half of his soul did not. No world that he wished to be a part of, at least.
Sado swallowed, the heaviness in his chest ever present as he spoke once more. "He is the moon to me. And I fear I've spent too much time counting the stars that I've lost sight of my moon." His throat tight, his words coming out with more pain, more heartache than he could have imagined. They were young, yes. But el corazón sabe. And his heart knew. He had wasted too much time not being honest with Uryu about his feelings right away. A mistake he would not make again.
Tumblr media
Surely his ears had deceived him. Wide eyes look up at the man before him. "What? You'll help me?" He had been hanging on to hope so desperately that it almost felt unreal that Aizen was actually going to agree to this. Without hesitation, Sado stood, scrambling over his own feet to give the other the space he would need to break free from his bindings.
"I have to do something for you. You can't give me everything while I give you nothing." He considered a moment before a thought rang in his head so clearly, so loudly, he felt he should cover his ears to get away from the noise.
"Gin."
The name is barely a whisper on his lips, but it's one he knows the God before him will hear. The teen may not have known the depth of the relationship between the two soul reapers, but he could see it was deeper than most could understand. He feared for a moment that he was assuming too much about them, about a connection that may or may not have been between them.
"I can take you to him. I've been to visit him before, I know where he is."
Did he even know Gin was alive? Had anyone dared to tell him? Was this going to be a shock to hear, or would he even wish to see the man that had once been his right hand?
"Tú me das mi corazón, yo puedo ayudar a darte el tuyo."

hey jackie, random question that popped into my brain: does rangiku get sick more easily, due to that missing piece of her soul? does it have or has it had any impact on her physical health? like, it just zipped into my head, this question, but i'm suddenly wondering about it.
Tumblr media
THAT'S A REALLY GREAT QUESTION LU and honestly something I've never thought about before since we've never really seen Rangiku ( or, well, anyone really outside of Ukitake???? ) sick in the manga or anime before. And I mean sick sick, not just recovering from a fight or a heavy night of drinking... at least I can't remember seeing anyone super sniffly or anything lmao
I could see how the missing piece of her soul could impact her health and make it harder to fight off illness, but I think it affects her Shinigami abilities the most. The reiryoku ( or spiritual power ) that Shinigami possess is typically aligned with their spiritual sensitivity and willpower ---- which, in Rangiku's case, wouldn't be at full capacity. Though the fact that she is still strong enough to be a Lieutenant within the Gotei 13 with a chunk of her soul missing is insanely impressive, in my opinion!
I'd imagine that, outside of her being unable to achieve bankai ( in my interpretation / headcanons for Rangiku, at least ) her reiatsu isn't as strong as it should be. So while Captain class Shinigami can disperse reiryoku into the air and incapacitate an opponent's movement with their spiritual pressure / reiatsu alone, Rangiku has a much harder time doing so.
I also just went down a massive rabbit hole looking further into this, and remembered CFYOW mentioning something about Rangiku having the claw or nail of the Soul King inside of her soul?? And that the claw/nail allows Rangiku to stay alive and keep her powers, in spite of the missing portion of her soul that was used to feed Aizen's incomplete Hogyoku. I DIDN'T ACTUALLY READ CFYOW THOUGH so I can't really speak too much on it, but to avoid any further spiraling I'll just say that she doesn't really experience health concerns or bouts of illness due to the missing chunk of her soul, but I COULD see any illness she DOES experience taking a little longer for her to recover from than the majority of her peers ---- since her body would have to work overtime to make up for that missing piece. But then again, she's had lots of practice recovering from hangovers lmao so who knows!

Despite all the things he had already learned in his time as a captain, it was still not all that often that an adjutant from another division would come to visit. And despite that fact, this happenstance would usually not garner too much attention if not for the person in question that had arrived. Sousuke always drew a bit more interest than many others, underlined with Kisuke's own, now poking his head out from a door leading to a part usually shut off and secured inside the 12th division building.
Tumblr media
" Vice-Captain Aizen! What a surprise. " At least that was the expectation of a reaction when division members would forego just handling a matter on their own and redirect a second-in-command to their captain. Not that it really mattered, whatever there was that needed to be solved, be it by Shinji's request or even a question or two of Sousuke's own, he easily could tend to it for as long as it was desired.
His work, at least the - current - version would not run away anytime soon. " If it is not urgent, would you care for a tea? I can make the time, if you need it. " || @keikakudori | starter call ♡

okay but talk to us about the aftermath of gin bisecting hiyori! does she have nightmares? does she have pain her lower extremities from having her spine severed? how close did she come to dying? how extensive is the scarring since the angle looks like it went through her midsection---? does she have issues with breathing or her energy? how much PTSD does she have from it? i'm sorry aina i goTTA KNOW
Hiyori doesn’t actually have nightmares about being hurt or dying. In fact being injured does not create any trauma like that for her. She enlisted as a shinigami very early on. She is aware of injuries and has become older and stronger to know that these injuries heal. At least- physically. But what she does have nightmares about is the psychological aspects that hollowfication has taken. The one complaint against Aizen was not the betrayal- but the fact that he used her to hurt her friends. Hiyori had been trying to fight her own hollowfication for a long, long time as Shinji warded off Mashiro and Kensei’s attack with the other visored. She had been struggling to tell Shinji to drop her and run. She had also told him to leave her. She gave him several warnings until she couldn’t control herself any more and the hollow took hold of her actions. I think she must have been struggling for a long time, trying to fight the virulent nature of the hollow and to not hurt her friends.
Tumblr media
Eventually, she succumbs and the recurring nightmare she has is if it happens again. What now?
It’s why she is always on edge. She’s always sure to reel in her violent hollow so she will not lose that control again.
As for the aftermath of Gin bisecting Hiyori, here are a few of my headcanons from an injury like that:
She has a thin, surgical scar across her entire midsection around her waist. It has healed into a silvery-white colour and quite noticeable.
Whilst her breathing and energy is undamaged. there are occasions that she suffers loss of sensation and lower leg weakness. In those moments, she has to take a break until she can regulate her reiatsu and regain sensation in her lower limbs again. In the immediate aftermath, Hiyori had to learn to sit and walk again with extensive rehabilitation. She spent a long portion of her time not knowing if she could ever fight again. It was a very dark part of her life.
She compiled a list of reasons for herself to walk again (e.g., to dance on Aizen’s grave, so she could dropkick Kisuke whenever she felt like it, so Shinji wouldn’t look like he would cry…).
She has internal scarring in all her organs. All healed, but she needs yearly check ups at the fourth division to monitor inflammatory markers.
She cannot become pregnant due to the trauma her body has sustained. Her body will not carry a child. Whilst Hiyori did not want a child… she is also quite heartbroken that the choice was taken from her and it’s just one other thing she can’t provide her partner.
Due to the nature of the injury, Shinso’s reiatsu (Gin’s zanpakuto) lingers around that area. It’s very subtle and woven into her own reiatsu by now, but it is still there.
She has just small amounts of PTSD- but often covers it up with some dark humour. None of the visored finds her jokes about ‘not being half bad‘ funny at all. They are probably the ones with more trauma having to watch her die to be honest.
Also- the big crux of this is- Hiyori only survived in that universe. I always think Hiyori, for all reasons, was most likely going to die from that injury. She was cleaved in two. The damage to her spine, her liver, her kidneys and gut would have been too extensive to save- even for a hollow with regenerative capabilities. But she survived in that one universe.
I like the plot that every time she does die, she wakes up a few days prior to the fake karakura town arc and has to find a way to prevent her death (a la edge of tomorrow, or groundhog day). I just have to pick the annoying music she hears every time she comes back to life.

Gin or Aizen?
Tumblr media
--- "Huh.." This one was actually.. Quite a challenge. The arrancar scratched a marked brow, weighing his options. "'s a bit complicated ain't it? They smell th'same, which tells ya all ya need ta know, really." Picking one over the other feels a bit like breaking up a matched set. Not that that is his problem, of course, but still.
He's already asserted it'd be exciting to fuck someone far, far above his station, and that he doesn't mind Aizen's appearance. And yet.. "Gotta be Ichimaru." There's something about him. "Ta me 's like he's more like us." Like the other arrancar. Slightly feral, someone that gets his hands dirty, and walks the miles he's got to go. Neither Aizen nor Tousen share this quality. They are... Smooth where Ichimaru has a ragged edge. He still thinks too much, Renji wagers, but doesn't hold a candle to the other two.
"Dunno. Is both an option?"
