does anyone on here have a system for keeping track of music listened to that they'd like to share? i've historically done this with playlists, but in 2023 i got worse and worse about that especially as a bunch of my music listening moved to bandcamp. i want to try to listen to more albums this year but also create more intentional playlists so that i actually incorporate album tracks into playlists instead of just falling back into listening to my old staples for weeks at a time without discovering new stuff

i've been listening to pills and good advice by left at london non-stop recently. it's super long and winding and it just really captures a lot of my own weird complicated feelings around leaving my parents' house and also being mentally ill. also it's the song i've assigned to my ocs lol

when i was first getting into diy music a little less than two years ago i discovered this little band called circadian clock and they still have a special place in my heart. their discography is v short and quite eclectic, give them a listen.

i'm actually quite excited to set up my little system of weekly music roundups. i think it will be fun! i'll try to post them on saturdays, whenever i have the energy to do so.

they'll just consist of music i've listened to throughout the week, from any time period (so not just new releases). generally speaking they will be about cataloguing albums and songs that are new to me, but i might also talk about some songs that aren't new listens, if i feel compelled to do so for any reason.

expect goth and punk music of course, but i also want to try to branch out and listen to more genres this year. recommendations are welcome.

orchid ⇢ what’s a song you consider to be perfect?

i think there are many songs which accomplish what they set out to do, do it extremely well, and thus are in my eyes "perfect". for two examples of such (because i can't just choose one lol):

only shallow by my bloody valentine is their best song and probably one of the best shoegaze classics imo. some mbv songs kind of feel like they exhaust their ideas quickly and then overstay their welcome; not this one. and that opening is so attention-grabbing.

death drive by specimen — pounding, driving goth rock. the main guitar part is just perfect. the rhythm is super fun, with the hard emphasis on the 2nd and 4th beats with the guitar as part of the rhythm section. love the unique song structure, and how the verses provide a dreamy contrast to the rest of the song.

sage ⇢ what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is?

i'm biased but if i had to choose... it's visual art. it just has an immediacy to it. but touching art can be created in all mediums equally.
