There are places that define a relationship

The entrance to the hospital at 4am, false dawn lighting the sky and the fluorescent lights washing out the scenery. Rin used to take the night shift and then they'd stagger back to her place, or sometimes his. She always smelled of antiseptic and blood.

They'd stagger to her place, or sometimes his, and she'd be down to her bra and scrub bottoms the moment she could be. Burning her fingers while she poured the tea. The lights in their apartments were as bad as the ones at the hospital entrance, flickering and harsh. She always looked so tired and he's sure he looked just as bad. Just two sleepless people trying to forget that sleep is coming for them, whether they want it to or not.

The training yard with the little pond where they'd practice water release. Rin was always frustrated with her offensive jutsu. "It's just so brute force, you know? I could do this so much easier with my medical jutsu." and she'd shake her head, frowning, and try it again. Kakashi learned his water release for her, mostly. To spend a bit more time together when the currency of their free time was slowly running dry.

The clearing in the forest where she cried on his shoulder, Obito's name muffled into the soft fabric of Kakashi's shirt. Where he pressed a hand to his eyes and felt his own tears seeping into his glove. When they kissed, it tasted of salt.

The hospital entrance at 4am, where she'd kiss his cheek and he'd stroke a fond hand through her hair.

Their apartment, where she'd straddle his lap and close her eyes and kiss him til the sun rose.

The training yard with the little pond, where they fell in the water and got caught with their hands in each other's pants, too distracted with each other to notice the next people coming to use the yard.

The clearing in the forest where she said "I love you" and he said "kiss me".

so. this is an alternate end i plan to write to nsmap+the kids’ story. like not canon in any way to the au, but.

obito is a leaf shinobi, comes back after the rincident. however he is still insane and deranged and takes his knowledge about the infinite tsukuyomi and applies it to the two people he wanted to do it for in the first place: kakashi and rin.

he puts them in a genjutsu where they experience nsmap as a whole. they stay in rooms without windows in nice beds, separate but together in the genjutsu. obito keeps them fed and watered and cared for. they are like this for years, assumed kia in a mission where rin lost control is isobu. obito keeps up appearances in the meantime.

he’s found out of course, because he keeps slipping up about things that aren’t happening (he’s controlling the genjutsu so he knows what’s happening there and it’s affecting him too!) and an investigation is conducted. he is arrested after anbu find out where he’s keeping kkrin, and team 7 is the one leading the investigation. sasuke is the one who releases rin from the genjutsu first.

she doesnt even react at first. she and isobu are just waking up. she’s crying but they’re not her tears, they’re so salty and she is going to throw up. she does. she throws up saltwater onto the floor, and cries, and mourns and mourns and mourns. but she’s not trying to hurt herself, so they station a couple anbu with her to help her back.

kakashi is different. sasuke releases kakashi and despite how. i mean. malnourished and weak he is, kakashi still tries to kill himself. he is Gone. he rolls out of the bed and he is screaming and trying to tear his hair out and gouge his eyes out and bite his tongue off and sakura and naruto have to forcibly restrain him from hurting himself. obito is witnessing the whole thing, and he’s upset because he can help. if they would let him put kakashi back, everything would be normal again and kakashi would be happy again and so would rin, and he can fix this.

he is violently fighting between “i hurt them i did this to them” and “i can fix this i can fix them if they would just let me” but he is also. still very deranged. so obito is imprisoned. kakashi and rin are put through extensive therapy. rin takes it better because she’s always just been more grounded and she knows herself and she’s very. her.

kakashi doesn’t speak again. he barely even reacts to anything. he is so emotionally traumatized and gone and broken, and it is hopeless to get him to do anything. he wants to be dead all the time.

they finally let them visit obito, just once. rin wants to speak with him; they hope seeing obito will get kakashi to do something.

rin asks obito why. she thinks maybe that figuring out his intentions, knowing he was malicious will make her hate him. (she can’t hate him.)

kakashi stumbles to his knees immediately, asks to be put back. begs to be put back. it’s the first thing he’s said in months. he’s quickly taken away and is never allowed to see obito again.

he sneaks in soon after anyways, because he’s kakashi hatake and can do whatever he wants because he’s that good of a shinobi. and obito puts him back. because even after all this time, the war between the knowledge that he can help his special people but he’s hurting them too, the help always wins. he can do good for them in the end. he is doing good for them now.

rin doesn’t think kakashi should be taken out again. she does, she wants him back, she wants them normal. she wants the dream. but that’s all it was; a dream. and she hasn’t seen kakashi close his eyes so peacefully since he woke from the dream so maybe at least one of them can be happy.

additional:

- team seven hates obito. they hate him. they hate that he taught them teamwork and care and love and then treated his most special people like this.

- rin goes on to live. she’s not happy, she thinks, but she’s living. and she dedicates herself entirely to the medical field and becomes a legend there, because she wants to help somebody somehow.

obito appears alone first, in the middle of kkyuri + kids Normal Family Walk Time. this immediately sends kks and sayuri freaking The Fuck out bc sayuri can’t see a genjutsu and kakashi doesn’t sense one, so what kind of sick joke is somebody playing on them?

obito, who’s just gotten back from saving his kids from their own dimensional fuckery w his partners, is also Freaking The Fuck Out because WHERE ARE THEY???? he sees kakashi, takes half a step towards him in relief before he pauses because hey, that’s not his kakashi, that’s not rin, and they definitely only have two kids and none of those are them.

few tense moments pass before kkrin+twins+minato blip into existence, minato’s seal flaming at their feet. “shit,” kakashi mutters, then is immediately tackled by obito who takes the whole family down with him. “holy shit i thought i lost you guys,” etc etc. they stand back up and. oh yeah. the other dimension kakashi who looks like he’s going to pass out, held up by who they can only assume is his wife who also looks like she’s going to die.

“uh. hi.” obito says, something something introductions, yes we’re real we’re from a different dimension and trying to get home. yeah but we need a new seal because some idiot burnt it up in transit (“i memorized it, dumbass,” kakashi says, tapping his head in clear irritation, like they’ve had this argument before). oh you have some on you? sweet!

kakashi takes the paper and ink from New Dimension kakashi, who now looks considerably calmer and now just.. confused. kakashi can help with that. “the kids got ahold of a scrapped seal of minato’s,” he explains, taking a few steps away to lead nisi!kakashi somewhere quieter. “sent them back in time, and we went to save them. but the seal was still faulty, it’s a miracle they made it in one piece. so we fixed it, but apparently accidentally figured out how to cross dimensions instead of travel. so, we landed here and now we just really want to get back home.”

nisi!kakashi and kakashi get to some talking, though neither are very talkative and prefer observing. but as they hear everyone else getting to talking, comparing dimensions, well.

kakashi: is dad alive here?

nisi!kakashi: …no. he died when i was six. [silence] but. i got to see him in the afterlife, get my closure and all that. (does this kakashi experience the same? have they had a war yet? looking at obito, alive and well, perhaps not. did he get that closure?)

kakashi, looking at nisi!kakashi with slight concern: ,.right. the afterlife. :/ uh well dad’s actually alive where i am. came back about a year ago from captivity. (so there’s no need to help a different kakashi search for his lost father here, then, if he really did die. that’s…something).

nisi kid ocs and the twins+minato

the kids are already comparing parents. in this universe, obito seems to have gone down a bad path and started a war. but he ended up good, tsuki and obito and miu say, because that’s what their dad always tells them. he was good in the end.

minato, keeping an eye on the kids and observing from behind, looks sick.

the twins think the drawn version of juubito looks cool as hell. they go and recreate their own iteration of their obito but with mokuton, because he doesn’t have a ten-tails. oh, but you know who has a three tails? mama! it’s name is isobu and he’s super cool. he makes swimming super/ fun.

obito’s next in line for the hat in the nsmap universe. but in this one, kakashi got to be hokage? that’s super cool! the twins get to see all the technological advances he brought to konoha, as well as how he settled treaties with other nations. he did a lot here! that’s what grandpa’s doing in our universe.

nisi!kakashi and rin visit for a bit. it’s not as awkward as kakashi expected it to be, but he supposes that’s because they’ve had time to. recover. he did still chidori rin in nsmap universe, rin still chose that path. but this time isobu saved her because there was no obito around to save their bodies from the kiri nin, because he was at home doing physical therapy.

rin and isobu have made peace with each other. she hopes that this universe’s kakashi’s made peace with his rin, even if she is dead.

nisi!kakashi: the…anbu? i did anbu for a good portion of my life, and i was hound, yes.

kakashi’s already made peace with obito. but he’s curious about what would’ve happened if things had gone differently.

kannabi still happened, but his struggle in nisi!kakashi’s universe is replaced by a mental, physical, and emotional struggle in the form of healing from kannabi. which sure, happened in this universe too, but he wasn’t around people to hurt. in nsmap universe, he hurt the people closest to him frequently in fits of anger. but he healed eventually, moved in with and got married to kkrin. they had momo and mosu (unplanned smh), and here they are now.

so there never was a war. at the very least, “did you ever meet zetsu?”

“hm?”

“plant guy made out of the same stuff as hashirama cells. orchestrated the whole war, manipulated. you.”

and obito looks pale, because yes. he does know zetsu. he just also wasn’t entirely aware zetsu wasn’t just a figment of his imagination.

this changes things.

he seems nice, at least. he’s funny, and everyone else enjoys him. he’s grown flowers for everyone and is currently throwing a hollow wooden ball that he made himself for his own kids to run and catch.

he looks timid. he’s wearing kakashi’s old clothes, or a copy of them. they’re far less bossy on obito’s wary look than kakashi’s demanding stance.

i think kks would go into labor fiest and be just the most miserable wet dog abt it in the world. obito is very genuinely on the verge of hyperventilating into a paper bag and rin is very medical abt it. "no I need to take care of him that is MY boyfriend and MY baby i can help with the delivery!!" and gets herself so worked up abt it SHE goes into labor and is just kind of like "hm. oh well." momo and mosu come on the same day which adds to people calling them twins. obi+min nearly fucking die from the stress. kushina keeps them in line so kkrin dont murder them for being overprotective and inssne. obito cries the whole labor, just nonstop streams of tears because 1. his people are in pain and he cant help and 2. HIS KIDS R COMING?? NOW?? its a mess.

kushina sends the boys on meaningless errands to keep them away, and neither of them catch onto the fact that kakashi and rin don’t actually like chocolate until they’ve bought it. no refunds.

AND AJDFJHFHDHDHFJKGG WOOD BEADS FOR FINE MOTOR CONTROL 🥺🥺🥺🥺 god yes absolutely and he starts by taking lessons from tenzo until he can. you know. make beads. and then he makes progress and is so excited about it that he makes bracelets for kakashi and rin and they’re a little lumpy and weird looking and misshapen and the beads aren’t all the same size but obito literally looks like an excited puppy with a toy when he presents them to kkrin and so of course they wear them all the time now and never take them off literally ever. and obito’s embarrassed because he’s gotten a little better now but those bracelets are the most important things in the world to kkrin and rin may or may not tear up every time she thinks about it because she’s so touched by it all,,,, he also makes bracelets for momo and mosu in the future but he’s gotten good enough that the beads are all the same size and he can even shape the wood so that it looks like a picture and so he makes a peach for momo and a little flame for mosu <3

thought of another silly goofy au

nsmap rin, canon obito, and obikitchen kks are sent to the same universe, due to reasons i haven’t decided yet. however in this universe, they are also their kid selves again, in their team minato days, and each of them think they are the only ones transported back and therefore, must act in character.

this premise is funny because they are all so fucking incredibly op.

scenarios in my head:

rin trying to make a seal back (and failing obv), and screaming “GOD FUCKING DAMNIT” while the seal bursts into flames behind her, getting up to stomp away only to see obkk. collective agreement of “that never happened.” obkk r like “maybe i’m just way more observant now damn rin never used to curse like that”

obikitchen kks using mokuton at the rincident when nobody’s looking, obrin turn around and there’s just 20 soldiers inexplicably dead behind him

EVERYBODY BUT CANON OBITO HAVING PARTNERS SHOW UP FOR THEM. I WILL DIE.

kamui being a vessel for True Forms, so whenever obt goes there he’s his adult self because kamui moves across dimensions or whatever. anyway he takes kkrin there for a moment and he’s like Oh What The Fuck

the rincident, where rin’s like no i NEED to go on this mission. and kks is like FUCK NO. finally admits he’s from another universe and rin’s like OH ME TOO. THATS WHY I NEED ISOBU and kks is like “??? you were going to traumatize me???” his puppy eyes are 1873489274929102848593x worse as a child and rin’s like NO. no. i can talk to him he’ll understand, but we need his chakra to get back to our own worlds

kannabi, obito gets crushed but never gives kks the sharingan because he turns on a dime and fuckign decks kks before they go into the cave, knocking him completely unconscious

kks sees it coming and is like “ah. what have i done to deserve this?” he asks and obt is like “uhhhhhhhhhhfffuckk. have you ever heard of tourette’s?” (<- tourette’s, something deidara always blamed his impulsive punches on (deidara did have tourette’s. the punching was not tourette’s)). obt has no idea what tourette’s is. kakashi does and decides to say nothing of it. it is never brought up again.

rin learning she died in obt’s universe and in her head being like “bitch” while isobu flips her off. so true
