I was thinking about this recently, too, the whole "despite my misgivings" thing. I believe it's something Hinata says about Komaeda if you hang out with him after Chapter 1, signaling that he'll never really forgive him. But, like...Kokichi really hasn't done anything to earn that, like planning a murder. There's the Insect Meet & Greet, but still... I feel like they're just trying to push the idea that "this is this game's Komaeda".

I really dislike the whole “Kokichi is the Nagito of V3″ because that’s just. Fundamentally not true. Uuuugh....

But you’re right; Kokichi hadn’t done like. Anything. Aside from the Insect Meet and Greet and Shuichi and Kaito had a literal discussion about how it was very possible that Kokichi was trying to help in a very round about and misguided way but yeah

The more I think about it, the more this feels like the devs just remade DR2 but killed Chiaki and Komaeda in the first trial, then filled in the blanks. Makes you wonder how everything would turn out if Shuichi had the right help

Yeah, I feel as though this was a thought experiment- what would happen if the protagonist didn’t have the right help or pushed it away when it was needed, and didn’t have the right information, didn’t ask the right things et cetera (because Hajime’s case was such a close call, for one...), on top of the things he cannot know because he’s not trusted with the information. Of course, protag will believe that he has everything in check, but that’s true of anyone who’s self-assured until they get a smack from the reality stick, so it doesn’t mean much if those around him aren’t any the wiser (cough, Chapter 6). 

Though hmm, I would like to see how an alternative situation would play out, if Shuichi got a few more clues. It requires getting to the meat of his character flaws because of the lens issue, but it’s got me curious
