Shall We Start Over? || Kurtbastian

The infamous Klaine had risen all the way to the highs of marriage and fallen to the struggles of divorce. It was something that nobody had expected, but everyone involved was taking pretty well. Another thing that nobody expected was Sebastian reaching out to Kurt to make sure he was okay, and the two of them being able to get along. More than that. Sebastian had reached out well before the marriage ended and though it had been touch and go after the divorce, they were friends again. So much so that Sebastian had asked Kurt to come over and had offered him a place to put his things. What Kurt didn’t know was that he was about to walk into an offer to move in as well. There was a knock on the door and Sebastian opened the door and the scent of dinner wafted out and greeted Kurt with the French man’s smile. “Hey here, stranger.”

Even if it wasn’t an easy pill to swallow, in the end it had been the right thing to do. Even if between them deciding to separate, and the actual divorce there was some amount of time, both Kurt and Blaine realized it was best not to continue to postpone the inevitable, and go on their own separate ways, if anything for the sake of saving enough that would keep them friendly-ish for their daughter’s benefit. On the other hand, there was the unexpected fact that none other that Sebastian Smythe was the one reaching out to him, not only before their divorce was final, but after, making sure that Kurt was okay. And even if it could had been easy to blame him about what was happening in his life, Kurt knew in his heart he couldn’t blame him. Besides, there was this odd, and somehow warm feeling of what was slowly becoming a truly unexpected friendship. When Kurt was looking for a smaller, cheaper place to move, Sebastian offered a spare empty room at his studio as storage for his things, and with him still looking, he now found himself knocking at the door of Sebastian’s apartment that evening, after leaving Ann Marie with Mercedes for the night. “Hey there yourself, sir” he said with a soft chuckle when the door was opened, the delicious smell immediately filling his nose. “Oh wow, something smells good. May I come in?” he asked, while still standing at the doorway.

There was no way to deny to himself how guilty he felt about the Klaine breakup. He was Sebastian Smythe, after all. The very same man that had tried to break them up before, and the very same man that reappeared only days before the marriage started to deteriorate. Whether or not it was already going in that direction, he didn’t know because he hadn’t been there, so the way things looked… this might be his fault. But reaching out to Kurt was more than guilt, he’d found before the crumbling that he really did enjoy the other man’s company. When he opened the door, it felt more like he was welcoming a fellow Warbler than a previous rival in love. An enemy. Or worse, someone he felt bad for. He was greeted and feigned getting comfortable, leaning up against the door frame nonchalantly. “No, I thought I’d host this little meeting right here at my super comfy front door.” He let the joke sit for just one second then shook his head, chuckling at himself as he stepped back and gestured towards the inside of his home. “Come on in, that scent you’re smelling would be dinner, so I hope you’re hungry.” No mention that dinner wasn’t required for the scheduled meeting, since they had only planned to do things that involved Kurt storing his stuff.

Kurt narrowed his eyes at him, but it was all in playful banter. “As quint as your neighbors may find that as they walk along the hallway, I think we’ll be more comfortable inside.” He watched Sebastian laughing and stepping back and Kurt put his chin up just a bit. “You never know- I may be a vampire, and I was asking for your permission to go in. Now-” He walked past him, making a soft wave of his hand. “- it’s too late.” He turned around and smiled playfully at him, then looked to where the delicious smell was coming from. “Actuall, I am. I… skipped lunch, so basically I haven’t eaten anything all day. Lots of coffee, that’s for sure!” He giggled, then took his jacket off, and placed it neatly on a chair nearby. “How was your day?” he begun to ask, then put his hands behind his back. “To be honest, I was surprised that you invited me to your place. I thought you had… other people to meet.” He gave his shoulder a small shrug and looked at him pointedly. It was no secret for Kurt that Blaine and Sebastian were already an item in the making, already trying to make up for the time they had lost, and no, that wasn’t Kurt’s business anymore. It just made him curious that he would invite him over, of all people.
