explaining an “AU” that’s not actually an AU and just a sequel to something i’m writing
Setting: Ezkriebia, a world extremely similar but more advanced than Earth. Human equivalent is Ezkriebians or Birdragons, and the dog/canine equivalent is dragons (E. Draconatus)

The world is split into two or three realms, the Surface, the Depths (expansive cave systems far below the Surface) and the Sky Islands (artificial floating landmasses). The Depths are used as waste refuses, and the ecosystems there are highly damaged, overrun by failed biotech experiments in the form of Depths dragons, which is a large problem for Ezkriebians because they are considered pests.
Dragons are highly varied due to biomodification tech, and a recent experiment with ancient worms found in ice has lead to the creation of KWH or Thief Reapers, the frankenstein dragons for pest control. There are also Kemmos, which are relatives of the dragons that were engineered as pest control as well.
This “AU” (Aphelion) follows a previous domain duo’s four dragonets, named Rebel, Rise, Rival, and Revolt, as they try to figure out what happened to their eldest sister Wisp. (plot twist: she’s a KWH.)
Rebel is the second-oldest, and the only brother, very protective of his sisters.
Rise is the youngest sister, and has the typical “clueless child” trope.
Rival is the second-youngest and extremely angsty, the designated attack gremlin of the group.
Revolt is the middle sister and acts very apathetic, but is full of cleverness and guile.
Wisp, before she was dragonnapped, was very distant and weak, almost constantly in a daze.
45, Wisp’s number designation as a KWH, is large and extremely intimidating, hailed as a local legend. 45 also refers to the hivemind formed by the worms and Wisp’s own consciousness.

Bad-Off: Teflon vs. Cast Iron Frying Pan
Which is worse for environment + health?
Teflon
Creation: Basic heat/forging/casting of pan, plus very bad chemicals for making Teflon coating.
Pre-use: N/A. No prep needed.
While using: Possible health/environmental costs as bits flake off in your food (maybe ignore this for high-quality Teflon pans)
Length of use: Can be pretty long if cared for, but accidents happen (pan: dead) and the pan will wear out eventually.
After use: long breakdown and toxicity of Teflon after pan is discarded. Recyclable? Removing Teflon coating might make this infeasible.
Cast iron
Creation: Just the forging/casting process. Thicker than Teflon pan so maybe more energy required.
Pre-use: Lots of kWh for first seasoning. Realistically, many more kWh to re-season every time you (or someone in your household) fucks the seasoning up, or if you forget about the pan for a year or two in a semi-humid environment, plus the kWh for sanding down to bare iron every time (unless you do this by hand... co crazy).
While using: I'm not aware of health risks, but most people will use ONE MILLION fucking paper towels (or some amount of washing of greasy rags) every time you clean your pan.
Length of use: Potentially fucking centuries (but occasional re-seasoning probably necessary for most people; see above).
After use: Not aware of environmental risks for discarded pans beyond "hunk of iron in the ground". Potentially recyclable?

Today, in a historic moment, Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and Quebec's Premier, François Legault, gathered to celebrate the announcement of a groundbreaking electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility. This facility, a project undertaken by Northvolt Batteries North America, will be located in Saint-Basile-le-Grand and McMasterville, Quebec. These batteries, powered by clean electricity, are poised to become some of the world's most environmentally friendly.  
A Vision for a Sustainable Future
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Once again, with Northvolt's new facility, the world is choosing Quebec and Quebec workers. When electric vehicle batteries are made in Quebec, it's a win-win-win—for workers, for communities, and for the environment. We'll always keep doing our part to make sure global companies and automakers can keep setting up shop in Quebec. Because that's how we continue to build a strong economy with good middle-class jobs and clean air for generations to come."   Building on Success Today’s announcement builds on important agreements that Canada has signed over the last year to bring billions in investments and a large number of new, high-quality jobs to our critical minerals and electric vehicle manufacturing sectors.  
Economic Boon and Green Legacy
Once the facility achieves full operational capacity, experts project that it will generate economic benefits equal to the production incentives provided within just five to nine years. Both Canada and Quebec have made a commitment to provide Northvolt with production support, aligning with the Inflation Reduction Act’s Advanced Manufacturing Production Credit in the United States, which amounts to up to US$35 per kWh.   Government Incentives and Financial Commitments Government production incentives will apply only to the batteries that Northvolt produces and sells, in line with the conditions in previous agreements with other battery plants. They will be up to C$4.6 billion, of which one-third is to be paid by the Quebec government. The operating support provided will only be available for as long as the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act incentives remain in effect. Canada will provide up to C$1.34 billion in capital commitment toward the project. Quebec will provide C$1.37 billion in capital commitment toward the project.  
A Giant Among Facilities
The Northvolt project is poised to be a colossal endeavor, as it spans an area equivalent to 318 football fields. Moreover, with an annual battery cell manufacturing capacity of up to 60 GWh, this facility will have the power to fuel approximately one million electric vehicles each year.   Integration and Sustainability The initial phase of the project, valued at a staggering $7 billion, will generate up to 3,000 jobs as the plant reaches its maximum production potential. This inaugural phase will also encompass facilities for cathode active material production and battery recycling, making it one of the world's only fully integrated facilities of this kind. Northvolt’s facility will focus on sustainability and will produce a variety of battery components and materials, such as precursor cathode active materials (pCAM), cathode active materials (CAM), lithium-ion battery cells, and lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt-oxide (NMC) from battery recycling, one of only a handful of locations to have this type of capacity outside of Asia.  
Pioneering Sustainability in Battery Manufacturing
By 2030, Northvolt’s unique decarbonization strategy aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its cell manufacturing by approximately 90% compared to the current industry average. The company also intends to use at least 50% recycled materials in its cell production. By recovering quality metals from used batteries, Northvolt will help to ensure that Canadian critical raw materials remain in circulation.

The trend of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) is looking bleak and becoming weak with every passing day. Once attaining unprecedented heights during the global cryptocurrency market’s bull run, the current situation of the digital asset class suggests that the golden days are gone. A recent study shows that about 95% of all the existing NFT collections have zero value.  According to the research done by crypto gambling platform dappGambl, which analyzed over 73,000 NFT collections, found that a majority of them are left with negligible value. Eventually, other than a small number of people out of a whopping 23 Million, NFT users are in no profits over their investment.  The research found that out of 73,257 NFT collections, about 69,795 collections hold zero dollars in market capitalization.  An NFT collection could possess a number of digital assets from some hundreds to several thousands. Each entity in the collection holds different traits and floor prices are decided depending upon the demand.  It also brought forward that only 21% of the existing NFT collections were traded, the rest were never sold.  Among the top trading NFT collections, at least 18% of them had no floor price, i.e. no minimum trading price. About 41% of them have floor prices between $5 and $100. Only a handful, less than 1% of the collections have a minimum trading value of over $6,000.  On the other hand, the floor price is not the metric to suggest the health of the once-budding digital asset market. The report highlighted an instance of a collection to showcase the bleak condition of the NFT market where a project with $13 Million in floor price had an all-time sales of only $18.  Regardless of Value Decline, Energy Consumption is High Cryptocurrencies and their closely linked NFTs rely on computing power, which in turn, demands energy. The energy expended on these digital assets should ideally be justified by their value. However, as the NFT market faces a downturn, questions arise about whether energy consumption is warranted or not. Unlike cryptocurrencies that are mined through energy-intensive processes, NFTs are registered on blockchains differently. However, they still contribute to carbon emissions due to the energy required for their creation and blockchain maintenance. In its report, dappGambl analyzed 73,000 NFT collections and identified an additional 195,699 NFT collections that appear to have no owners or market presence. According to dappGambl, the energy needed to mint the NFTs within those collections amounts to 27,789,258 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy, equivalent to approximately 16,243 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
