Here is a snippet from the very first chapter of LBAF V. It's one of my favorite chapters ever and it's not even written yet hehe.

“A canon event,” David repeated carefully. “What does that mean?”

“It’s a crucial life event,” the warlock explained. “It’s unavoidable. Because it contributes to who you are as a person.”

“Sounds important,” David chuckled nervously. He was always a little nervous when he spoke to the other man. He wasn’t sure why. “Can you travel back in time and change a canon event?”

“No,” the man shook his head. “Canon events are not to be fucked with.”

“But how do you even know something is a canon event or not?” David asked in confusion. 

The man grinned with the corner of his mouth. “Warlock math.”

“Ah. Of course,” David clicked his tongue. “What’s a canon event in your life?”

The warlock thought about it for a moment. “My parents adopt me in every universe. Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood, I mean.”

David found that to be very comforting. 

He wasn’t sure what awaited Max in all the other worlds and dimensions and timelines and other things he spoke about often. But he knew in his heart that his Max would be alright as long as he was part of the Lightwood-Bane family. 

“That’s lovely,” David smiled fondly. “Am I adopted by Jace Herondale and Clary Fairchild in every universe too?”

The warlock’s smile disappeared. There was a moment of silence.

Oh. 

It wasn’t a canon event then. 

David didn’t have a family - no kind parents and no wonderful siblings for him. Not in every universe. 

He wondered if he took his family for granted in this life. He wondered what else he was taking for granted in this universe. 

“I’m sorry,” the warlock whispered and squeezed his hand. “I shouldn’t have told you that.”

“Don’t be,” David managed a smile. “That’s all the more reason to be grateful for this life, isn’t it?”

“It is.”

“Then what is a canon event in my life then?” David asked cautiously. “What do I find in every universe and every life?”

The warlock smiled. “Me.”

Never read a full chapter of LBAF but now I've read the latest chapter for Love Beckons All Fallen. I just know the gist from your posts so I wasn't prepared.

I didn't know the kind of hell Kincaid was enduring with that monster. And maybe its cause you gave all the previous generation's pairings the chance to be properly together that I wasn't expecting this for Kincaid and Arthur.

I'm trying to remind myself why I love your fics and its not just because of the angst. It's cause you capture the banal tragedy of life. Its not fair and it just sucks. I do think you have some kind of dark magic to have me willing to endure this to experience your stories.

And, tf, not Madeline being totally right about David! Its making me realize the ones you have us rooting for aren't the heroes.

It sort of gutted me when Cami said she didn't love Arthur. Rafe and Max's lives diverged so much that the future Lightwood-Banes aren't growing up with the same bonds as the previous generations.

And future Max, wow. Not the man having a whole childhood friends to soulmates to enemies/ double agent arc with David.

Also, is Current Max supposed to feel like he's a side character in his own marriage? That whole scene made me feel kind of pissed at David and Future Max. Like I get it, but what in the actual fuck. You have secrets together then its an actual affair, not like it wasn't one already. Also, the man does not have to be grateful to you asshole. You're a sympathetic character and I'm not ready to learn what you've been through, but you straight up suck.

I've been saying this since IALS but dude, David legit scares me. Especially when he's got a goal. Right now its getting his babies back. Future Max better be ready for that obsessive fucker to come at him using the most underhanded tricks.

This chapter also just highlighted how similar Max is to Alec. Alec can survive losing everything except Magnus. Max can survive the loss of his sons, but not ALL of the Shadowhunter race meaning also his husband. Future Max has his priorities and its David David David.

And maybe its cause of IALS but I trust Future Max to do what's best. Dude has all the info and time travel. And at the end of the day, he's not someone selfish. Unless I've read it all wrong.

David should scare you. You got that right.

You'd be interested to know that Jaden and Max in IALS were definitely a kind of writing experiment for Max and Other Max with Other Max being IALS Max and Max being Jaden (because Jaden is using one of them as a coping mechanism and the other is feeling left out and useless)

Also - what you said "Future Max has his priorities and it's David David David." reminded me of this quote. I don't which fic it's from but it goes like "Max doesn't understand why his parents call him difficult. Because all he's ever wanted is David, David, David."

PS - your "I do think you have some kind of dark magic to have me willing to endure this to experience your stories" reminded me of one of my favourite Other/Future Max quote - "destroying myself over and over just to get an ounce of your attention is a kind of masochism I don't understand"

Just saw that post and wow, there really are a lot of subtle hints about AJ's dreams. Didn't really notice them while reading.

Do you have a world where AJ and Kincaid get their happy ending? Not IALS, not FMF, definitely not LBAF . . . Or a world where Arthur is with someone else?

What world does Lance have a parabatai in? Is it AJ?

If Other Max has come back from seven hundred years later, and Magnus is alive then, the warlocks survive whatever Lucifer and Lance will do to the world?? Then why is Hermes so concerned as to side with and protect Lance?

AJ was too naive and kind for this world. George Lovelace comparison was right.

I hope how Arthur's death was not in small part caused by his keeping his dreams secret rather than talking to - if not his parents or brother - at least his grandparents. two of whom have weird dreams and future visions themselves, will teach the others something. . . . But even if they knew that was what happened, kinda really doubt that.

Other Max didn't try to prevent Arthur's death. More on this soon.

There are many worlds where Arthur is with/dates other people (but it's not like a canon event or lasting relationship or anything if that makes sense)

LBAF is the only world with magic so IF lance has a parabatai, it's gotta be in the LBAF world.

How is the Alliance funded? Like I know cassie hasn't mentioned that but what do you think? Like in lbaf the Alliance is expanding so much so who pays them? And are they even paid? And do they have any rules and regulations and do they have to answer to the Clave?

How do the downworlders feel about David or Lance being the Prince of Darkness and Kincaid being the Crimson King? And how do they feel about the way Idris is rn with the dshadow demons and Idris Patrol etc?

Will we get to see/know what exactly happened to Joseph and what happened when Lance was born?

I've been very curious about what Max would do for a living to support his family but I never imagined him providing warlock services to mundanes. For some reason I was imagining him working for the FBI or something. What kind of work does he actually do and does he actually like it?

I'm sure having a child who has a disability requires a lot more care than it usually would. How would Mavid provide all that special care to Lance when they can't afford it. In IALS they could do that bc David became rich. Is he going to write in lbaf too?

Did Magnus cry when he met Lance for the first time too?

It's definitely funded by the Clave. All sub-institutions - including the Institutes and the Idris Patrol - are funded by the Clave. Shadowhunters are paid based on their job - like heads of institutes, patrollers, Clave leaders, medics, etc. So, the person running the Alliance (the shadowhunter - since it's their full-time job to run it) is paid too. This is why Anjali wanted to do a pilot of the regional Alliances (to see if it works and is worth the money/effort) before they expand it. It's the Treasury's job to take care of all these expenses. The current Clave is doing well financially (yay) because of Devlin Corp (yay?). The Alliance, since it is run by the Clave, does answer to the Clave. There are a set number of meetings they need to have every month and targets they need to achieve (collectively decided by Alliance representatives) and they closely work with the Consul to do all of this. Happy to talk more about the Alliance since I looooove it.

First things first, not everyone knows about the Crimson King. Only tmi/lbaf gang, seelie world, crimson watch and a bunch of others (like Jackson/Achilles) know about it. It's still a big secret to most of the shadow world. Especially at this point in time. They all simply think Lance is going to grow up and destroy Idris. They don't know there is a way (a person) who can stop him. As for the down world, they are divided about Lance/PoD (which doesn't help the situ with the Alliance). Seelies support him. Werewolves do not. Warlocks have walked out (meaning if Lance attacked Idris, they won't support defending it) and vampires are enjoying the drama. Some of them understand the need for the Idris Patrol (not warlocks!) and others like the shadow demons (like vampires because it means they can move during the day)

Max doesn't have a lot of options in terms of his job because he walked out of the Clave. His only option is to work with mundanes. He can do a mundane job but he doesn't have any interest in it or have any qualifications either. We will look into Max's jobmore in his short story.

David is not in a place to write in LBAF. I don't think it has even occurred to him that he can write (mundane stories) in the shadow world. But you are absolutely right in that raising Lance (and Arthur) is going to be expensive and is gonna cause some problems. If you notice, what David did in IALS was kinda messed up (i still love u bb), we will see something similar (not from David) in LBAF too. It's all about the hustle, honey.

The IALS story was everything, Max and David are everything and it couldn't have been more perfectly imperfect than that, it was so them so thank you for this amazing doze of serotonin!🤗

This line did it for me honestly, because in most of your fanfics, especially LBAF, Max is so obsessed with fixing things for David and helping him that he forgets that whatever's happening affects him too. That's why he can't be Other Max, those things aren't happening to Other Max, he has other stuff to deal with (see what I did there?) , the shit that happens in the current timeline is affecting both of them and they need to start healing and hurting together. That's the dream, I really hope they realize and fix this.

The Jaden content made me remember how much I didn't like him, I was half expecting Lance to show up and start roasting him, and now I can't stop thinking about Lance running into Jaden again, pure ✨️comedy✨️, which also made me wonder Max's reaction if he finds out that David called him? I can see that conversation going pretty bad and then better.

I forgot how much I enjoy David perspective, personally I relate to him a lot as a character, and I've found myself having similar problems or views so I really missed reading his inner thoughts. I also missed him simpimg over Max, that's just adorable.

Like real people do was what I didn't know I needed it was amazing, again it was absolutely brilliant🩷

PS: Was that how you always envisioned this scene going or was it easier for you to write it after all this time? Like when you finished it you had the mentality of Mavid trying to heal but after time passed it was like something cooled down and it was easier to imagine them getting closer?

Originally, I wanted David to tell Max that he called Jaden. But it seemed unnecessary tbh - and it would've taken focus away from the real story. So, I decided against it. That man has caused enough drama.

It was definitely not easy to write it right after IALS. Like I couldn't even picture it - because it was almost as if they were still healing inside my head. It's like saying 'get well soon' but without the 'soon' part, because I wanted them to take their time. I was willing to wait for them because I knew whenever the story would come to me, I'd be willing to write it. There were certain bits and pieces that I knew would be in this scene, including Max feeling insecurity about his appearance and David reaching out to Jaden, and the whole thing happening randomly, as if their hearts were healed and they didn't know about it and it randomly hit them like 'oh'. I hope that makes sense!

PS - Those people really do suck and there is nothing more despicable than disrespecting consent!

Reading the latest chapter I’ve come to the end Theory that Lance destroys idris without actually wanting to do it. In the chapter Alec and Magnus talk about Joseph and how his dead was caused by the instability of Lance’s powers. I think someone lance loves will be hurt ( maybe imprisoned or killed) ( for some reason I think Max will be imprisoned and sentenced to dead for selling blood). Lance will be hurt and the demons will probably attack Idris because they sense that Lance’s hurt is caused by shadowhunters ( because the demons always protect them).

I also think Kincaid won’t actually kill Lance but he’ll take away his powers ( maybe destroy them?). This theory came to my mind when I saw the fan art in your profile ( to me the position of the sword is weird and it must have a meaning), also because of Atlas question about Lance’s blood and why the demoniac blood is more dominant than his angelic blood.

writing this I came to another theory hehe. What if other Max helped with the conception of Kincaid because in his universe Lance was actually killed by the clave ( because he didn’t have a Kincaid, so nobody could stop him). And he knew that by “creating” Kincaid he could survive?

I hope y'all know I eat up all the LBAF theories like it's my favourite dessert (vanilla ice cream with square-shaped red jelly pieces on it).

After thinking about last chapter all day there’s something that i cant just put behind so here i go with the rambling.

What i dont get is why other max is so annoyed or mean or uninterested idk what word to use here with max. Like i get max is always gonna be max’s worst enemy to himself and to any kind of version but anyone would think that after 700 years or so he would have managed to love himself a little bit better and therefore show it to his younger version…

My theories are that 1) he’s jealous cause he cant have that life again. 2) he forgot how to be kind to himself after years of not having david by his side to show him kindness 3) shit really went hard on him over the years and now he’s unreachable 4) another mysterious reason you have hidden under your sleeve 5) all of the above

Are we gonna get more insight of other max in maybe lance’s chapter or we’ll have to wait until we reach the new lbaf part? 😭😭😭

So, I’m confused…did David’s book not also tell the story of how much Max loved David and the boys? Why did it paint Max in a bad light?

Not really no.

David's book is about him - his childhood and his life (which also involves Max and his children). It's sort of his memoir. He is the protagonist.

So, even though David talks about how much Max loves him (an vice versa) so much that Netflix wants a show about it, he is still the victim. When you look at the incident from David's pov (without any of the context), Max will be the bad guy.

Imagine you read IALS as your first mavid story. But you only read the scenes where you saw David's childhood where he suffers, some fluff in between, and then David suffer again. People are more likely to sympathize with him.

Max went on a mission even though David told him not to, he "betrayed" Mallory, he went back to France, He put his family in danger - this is all the audience knows about Max (before the show). It's kind of like in early LBAF days when the readers were like "oh max is so annoying. he just causes problems" (ah I do not miss those days).

the dedication is also interesting. david suffers from memory loss - specifically memories about max - in LBAF in the hands of mallory, so it would make sense that a similar thing occurred in IALS. david got the memory loss in LBAF through torture that seemed pretty similar to electrocution. in IALS, david tells max in one of the flashbacks that side effects of electrocution for him were headaches and nausea. which is also what we see him getting everytime he hangs out with max post-divorce. it’s no secret that david’s memories aren’t 100% perfect, though we don’t know exactly why. mallory also seems to know a lot about what david went through, since she knows the exact house david was tortured in. there is also the public perception that david is a little bit crazy.

piecing all this together, my crazy theory is mallory somehow tortured david via electrocuation, causing him to be sick whenever he was around max and also losing some memories. the book may be less about david processing what happened and more just him trying to remember his life. if david forgot pieces of max, that would also explain the dedication. i’m not sure if max is aware of the memory loss. in some scenes, he’s seen reminding david about their past, like when he recalls what they had for dinner on their wedding night of what they did on their honeymoon. maybe he’s aware of the memory loss, but not the headaches? idk.
