“Okay! Welcome, everyone, to this…seminar on latent psychic abilities. I was expecting…a few more grown-ups to be at this one, but that doesn’t matter. The earlier you can learn about this stuff, the better, right?”

“Now, the OSS told me…a few of you are exhibiting psychic behavior and, um, a few of you aren’t, and maybe somebody in your family is. Which is normal. They deserve to be loved and understood like anyone else. Have any of you…kids met a mutant before?”

A kid with very red, very curly hair raised his hand from the third row. “Mutant is a mean word.”

David inhaled. “It…wasn’t when I was growing up and discovering my powers, but, uh, sure! Mutant is a bad word. Which…word would you call them?”

The Level 2 agent shrugged. “Gifted?”

David scoffed very lightly and cleared his throat to disguise it, but he could tell a majority of the kids clocked it. Smart little turds.

“Yes… Well, you’ll have to forgive me,” Rational David came in and stood beside him (not that anyone outside of David’s head could see that) and started influencing him, making him sound just a little more British. “I might slip now and then with the verbiage. Let’s continue on, shall we?”

The heavy OSS branded door at the back of the room opened and another adult walked in. David deflated in relief and Rational David let him have the reigns again.

“Gosh, I was starting to think this was only gonna be a lesson on baby— on speaking with…children. Spy kids.” He smiled at them. “And who are you?”
