What if these mentions are building up to Aaron's breaking point. He becomes so lost in his own head that he starts to see his "ghosts".

Imagine:

Aaron's breaking his heart at the thought of his mum having cancer. He's alone in his new flat. Tears are streaming down his face. A voice speaks to him. It's Liv. Aaron lifts his head but she's gone. Liv's ghost appears around the flat every now and then.

He's sitting at the pub. Alone. His mum and Charity are ignoring him. He's getting death stares from Cain and Moira. Suddenly, a snarky comment comes from behind. It's Faith. She disappears as soon as Aaron turns his head to look behind him. Faith's ghost shadows him around the village from time to time.

Aaron's nipping into David's shop to buy more booze to drown his sorrows. At the corners of his eyes he spots him. Jackson. "Haven't you had enough?" Is the last thing Aaron hears before Jackson fades from his blurred view. He grabs more alcohol before leaving. Jackson's ghost appears at Aaron's side just out of his eyesight. Every time.

He has taken a trip over to see Victoria at work. Again, to get drunk out of his mind. Victoria, taking pity on him, joins Aaron at his table on her break. He's about to ask her about a certain someone but before he has a chance Ben nips in beside Victoria. "Wasn't I good enough?". It catches Aaron off guard as he clumsily grabs his jacket and bolts for the exit. He looks back to find Victoria, sitting alone, looking at Aaron with great concern. Ben's ghost always pops up whenever Aaron is thinking about you know who.

Aaron, in another of his moods, is aimlessly wandering around the village. He's still deciding on who to turn his aggression on this time. He turns a corner and he almost bumps into someone. Robert. "Try taking it out on me for a change!" Aaron's eyes start to fill. He's stunned. He fumbles backwards before turning his back to Robert. His mind is spinning. He tried desperately to get Robert out of his head. That way he'll vanish. It worked for all the other ghosts. Except, this time, Robert isn't a ghost.

...and that's how we get Robert back.

Saw some discussions about Robert's exit story, and it got me thinking about Liv's.

They actually said, let's give Liv one last story before she goes forever. And let's make that story about bringing back her mother one last time. Let's have her mother try to get her to a) fall off the wagon b) manipulate her husband to cheat on her and c) steal all her money - all while mocking her sexuality.

Of course they let Liv be the one to bust her mum, so that's good at least. Then she and Vinny talked about having kids together in the future, but first; a dog. A couple of days to repair her relationship with Aaron, then - she gets crushed to death by a flying caravan.

They actually did that.

As far back as I can remember Emmerdale has been in my life. My first memory of it was the Aaron and Jackson Story, from then Aaron became a firm favourite for me.

I properly joined the Emmerdale fandom on Tumblr in 2015 after the affair had been exposed. The Tumblr fandom for Emmerdale at the time was super active, for Robron fans and I had loads of friends! (If anyone remembers me I was itsdinglesugdenlove) I wrote fics about our favourite boys and I was rooting for them along the way, when Liv came into the mix I was overjoyed, I adored the dynamic between the three of them. They became a home for messed up village kids and I loved them for it. They were my queer little family and I adored them, I was convinced if they had a baby it'd be the spit of Aaron but be dressed in little Robert suits!!

Liv's asexuality was so important to me, because at the time I'd been so confused sexuality wise for years, and it was Liv who made me realise that I wasn't broken, and I was asexual. (I now identify as aro/ace)

The breakup era destroyed the fandom, and when they got back together I remember sobbing so hard, and then everything went wrong and Robert went to prison and there was THAT montage of their moments together and that was it. Robert was gone but we still had Aaron and Liv. I hated any romantic partner they tried to give Aaron because it wasn't Robert.

Liv was always a favourite character of mine, I saw a lot of myself in her, with my own asexuality and the fact I was epileptic as well, I literally adored her. She found her soulmate in Vinny and everything was so perfect for her until Meena happened. I couldn't believe Aaron washing his hands of her, it was soul destroying, this along with the fact that almost every scene for Liv had someone calling her a freak for being asexual, made me stop watching Emmerdale for a few months.

All that's left to say is, for eight years of my life, I dedicated myself to Robert Sugden, Aaron Dingle and Liv Flaherty. Robert's in prison. Liv is dead. Me? I don't think I'll recover from this pain. That little family deserved all the happiness in the world.

Rest in peace Liv, our absolute queen 💜

Liv and Vinny getting married is the reason I started watching Emmerdale again, something I swore I’d never do after Ryan left. To see an asexual person, particularly an asexual girl just younger than me get married and have it not be an issue, that was a dream. That was a future I’d rarely let myself hope for and it meant more to me than I could ever put into words.

The representation she gave me validated me in so many ways and made me feel more comfortable in myself. She was the first person I saw on TV who was like me. I know I’m not the only person who’s life she’s touched and affected, I’ve seen the conversations her character has started and people who have realised who they are because of Liv. That’s important, so so important.

Representation has improved, somewhat. In America, and now in Australia, we do have instances of ace representation and it’s a lot more than when Liv came out. Still, these are few and far between and these characters rarely get the chance to appear or talk about themselves more than once, or the show gets cancelled after one season. Liv has been the exception.

To say she has been a quietly groundbreaking character is putting it lightly.

The idea of, after all of this, killing her off? That feels cruel on another level. It’s bury your gays, but feels even more personal because of how little asexual representation we have ever had. I don’t need to talk about how triggering and upsetting bury your gays is as a trope, we’ve all been there and we’ve all felt the effects of it.

I understand that Isobel likely wanted to leave, and Liv and Vinny’s relationship has been so strong that it would be difficult for her to leave without him. Sadly, this storyline has shown that it is possible for external forces to break them apart, and whilst it would be a downbeat and disappointing ending for her, it would make sense with this Sandra storyline. Killing her off though, feels like a poor storytelling decision, especially when her leaving after the breakdown of her relationship with Vinny feels like the right way to go. It’s going to leave an impact and not the way Emmerdale seems to think it will; it will only hurt asexual people who’ve been changed by Liv.

Paddy feels awful he doesn't know what's happening with Chas at the hospital but knows he can't leave Aaron, Bear goes to try and get him an update as he says sure she'd want him to look after Aaron.

Aaron and Liv's closest friends and family are grief stricken by what is happening before their eyes.

Vinny goes to Liv after Aaron had let him come in, Liv and Vinny talk about the dreams they have, Liv declares she wants a cat as well as a dog. Vinny says he wants to do up a camper van so they can travel 💔 Liv makes Vinny promise he'll still do those things.

Liv quickly fades and passes away. 💔💔💔

I only started watching Emmerdale because of Liv. I have so little representation and her asexuality was written so well especially her and Vinny's relationship, I was so excited to see where they went with it. But nope! Now I'm just angry and upset, never thought I'd be sobbing at Emmerdale.

Actually devastated that Emmerdale killed off Liv, Isobel Steele was such a huge talent for the show and it will be such a loss, damn her and Aaron just never got out of the cycle of misery that this show loved to have them in could they not of just had them leave the village together instead :( Aaron really left the village a year ago after the loss of his boyfriend and is gonna leave again with both his Grandmother and Sister dead for his sake I hope he never returns
