Sharing a bed with them
Tumblr media
George
- probably isn't a massive cuddler
- but will have one of his limbs flung over you to make sure you're still there
- he probably wakes up first most mornings, gazing at your blurry form until he remembers to put on his glasses
- there are always glasses of water next to the bed and you gotta be careful not to knock them over when getting in or out
- there's generally a couple of books at the end of the bed that George forgot to take back to the library
- before you fall asleep, he kisses the top of your head
- he definitely makes the bed every morning
Lucy
- one hundred percent a little spoon
- she likes to feel you wrapped around her, it helps her feel safe
- you probably end up breathing in her hair but it doesn't matter cos you're close to each other
- there's about a hundred teacups on the bedside table, most of them half full from drinking them before passing out
- she almost curls up like a cat, and when you don't spoon, you often end up with her on top of you, limbs splayed everywhere
- it's a tad warm but neither of you mind. you're close, you're safe, and you're relaxed
Lockwood
- big spoon. likes to know he's protecting you, even at night
- there's a thousand blankets on the bed, most of which get kicked off every night
- he still layers them on there though. just in case you get cold
- he doesn't sleep much but knowing that you're asleep in his arms help him to relax
- on the rare occasion that you wake up and he's fast asleep, you daren't move, not wanting to wake him
- he never makes the bed other than tossing the blankets back on it

So i was just thinking about my earlier lockwood post joking that his favorite hobby is asking Lucy if she's okay, and the amazing @ikeasupremacy commented that he does it because Lucy doesn't tell people when she's not okay. and I realized ...
Lockwood doesn't either. He does his absolute best to never show fear or doubt. He tries to never let on that his mental health is actually horrible.
he tries to do the things that no one ever did for him. he reassures Lucy constantly -- I have a plan, I'll take care of it, you're not alone, you're safe, we're right here -- saying all the words he longed to hear for years and years. He protects and cares for her the way no one did for him, the way he barely can for himself. He's filling the gap in his own heart. he never wants Lucy to have to feel like he did. he knows what it's like to feel horribly, desperately alone, and he's going to do his best to make sure she never does. he's going to fight for her, even though he had no one to protect him or defend him.
Tumblr media
for years he felt as though there was no one to care if he did disappear one night. there was no one to offer a trade, no one to willingly undergo pain for his survival. he never felt like he mattered that much.
and every are you okay? is a you matter to me. I care.
and now I'm crying. great.

Okay but. For anyone who's unfamiliar with the UK. Pop-up street funfairs are kind of a Thing here - they show up for carnivals and village fetes and shit and when you grow up in the middle of buttfuck nowhere like I did they might be the only entertainment you'll get all year, so you really come to love the atmosphere and the strobing lights and the pounding music and the nostalgia of better, easier, safer times.
And every year, in London, they have the Hyde Park Winter Festival, which is hands down the biggest pop-up funfair I've ever seen.
Anyway hc that the year Lucy runs away to London, Lockwood and George take her to the festival. It's George's idea - she is from the Barbarous Wastes Oop North, Lockwood, she's probably never seen a funfair before, and she does gasp and go all wide-eyed every time their taxi drives past it - and Lockwood pays, because his house might be mortgaged to the hilt, he might be practically a serf, but he's the boss and he's pretty sure he still owes George a tenner anyway for those beers, so, whatever -
And it's just a whole thing for Lucy because she's never really been treated before. Everything she's needed since she was thirteen came out of her Jacobs' wages. Her mum never spent a penny on her that wasn't absolutely necessary, and begrudged her even that. So she's always had to be a penny-pincher, always had to deny herself fun things because her wages were being spent on essentials or frittered away on pints of Fosters, and being able to do whatever she likes purely for her own pleasure is utterly foreign to her.
And he doesn't make her feel bad for it. For wanting to have fun for once. Neither of them do. George spouts useless facts about when rides were invented and the origins of ice skates, and sometimes puts his fingers in his ears with a grimace, but when she grins at him, he grins back. Lockwood plays the yes-man for her all evening, eyes twinkling when she hangs off his arm or pulls him over to see something by the wrist. He stumps up for candyfloss, for sweetie cones, for fresh donuts and hook-a-duck and the shooting gallery, because "You were looking at it like you wanted it." She has three goes on a claw machine trying to get a particular stuffed dog, and then Lockwood has a go, before George finally wins it for her. And she loves them so much, these boys who put her first more than her own family ever did.
She falls asleep on Lockwood's shoulder in the taxi on the way home. Mostly. She dozes, at least. She's still vaguely cognizant of what's going on around her - the low hum of the radio, the pulse of the taxi's engine, George's voice when he leans around her and says, "I didn't realise you noticed that thing she does."
She's been faintly aware of Lockwood's arm around her shoulders since he put it there, when she started listing drowsily into his side, but she hadn't noticed his thumb idly petting back and forth until it stills. "Thing? What thing?"
"The thing," says George helpfully. "Where she looks at things like she wants them but she knows she can't have them."
Lockwood snorts. It's a small, derisive sound, probably accompanied by an eye roll. "I'd make a pretty piss-poor agent if I hadn't. She does it at lots of things."
"Oh." George seems to muse on that for a second. Then, "Just you never seem to notice when she does it at you."
Lockwood goes very still, for a second. Clears his throat, just quietly. His arm jostles her a bit; she thinks he's fussing with his cufflinks, which he seems to do a lot ever since he started wearing them in the first place. His voice is warm, though. "Shut up, George."
"Yes, boss." Irreverent. Grinning, probably.
With her face tucked into his shoulder, Lucy smiles, and lets herself drift.

oh my gosh i just had an idea.
new headcanon that at some point Lockwood gives Lucy a very subtle, simple but beautiful circlet/headband made from pure, braided silver, for her to wear during cases when her Listening becomes too overwhelming/causes her pain. something like these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in my mind the one he gives her is very thin but sturdy, since he knows she's not one for flashy finery.
he sees her getting headaches after tough cases, her exhaustion after extensive Listening, and how much trouble she has admitting that she's in pain, and he longs for a way to protect her.
and after flipping through one of his gossip mags one night and seeing a woman wearing a shining circlet around her head, he gets an idea.
he goes to a jewelry shop the next afternoon, under the pretense of running a few errands. he finds the perfect piece: a simple braided silver circlet, thin and elegant and beautiful but not gaudy. he tries to ignore how his heart pounds as he walks home with it concealed in his coat pocket, trying to think of how to give it to her.
he doesn't pluck up the courage until nearly a week later, when he and Lucy are on a case. dealing with two nasty, shrieking Phantasms in a very haunted house.
Lucy can barely swing her rapier, she's in so much pain. she's trying so hard to push through it, to ward off the vicious spirit in front of her. she needs help and she wants to call out for Lockwood, but he's cornered by his own Phantasm. at least, she thinks he is. she can barely comprehend her surroundings as her mind is battered on every side by the shrieking and wailing.
her vision's going blurry as she tries to block out the horrible psychic assault. she's vaguely aware of a flash of light in the direction where she last saw Lockwood. there are tears falling from her eyes as she struggles to stay standing. the Phantasm reaches for her with cold, mangled hands.
suddenly, Lockwood is there.
the spirit is driven back by his blade and retreats, still screaming.
Lockwood's hands are gently cupping Lucy's ears, brushing her hair back as he settles something around her head. his eyes are finding hers. he's saying her name, telling her something.
and the noise suddenly dulls.
not the sound of his voice. she can hear that clearly now as it brings her back. but the horrifying, painful voices that taunt and curse her from beyond the grave have faded into the background. the pain has stopped. Lucy stares at Lockwood in surprise as his hands fall from her face, brushing away her tears on their way down.
"An idea I had a little while ago. I thought it might help. I'm sorry I didn't give it to you sooner."
-
the little silver circlet doesn't nullify her Talent completely. in fact, it seems to clarify it, to drive out the overwhelming psychic clutter and allow her to Listen more fully without fear of pain.
she soon wears it almost constantly, and not only for the protection it offers her.

So here's the first entry to "A Guide on How to Recklessly Run an Agency of Your Own".
This contribution is written by Lucy - who else could write about job interviews?
As scribbled comments are more the welcome in the book (just like the thinking cloth) it took me ages to find handwriting types for everyone...

Dating Anthony Lockwood Would Include
Tumblr media
Pairing: Anthony Lockwood x Reader
Warnings: None
Notes: Lockwood and co requests are open
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had applied to a bunch of agency’s once you became a full agent, and while you had gotten accepted to a bunch of big ones, you didn’t really trust them.
All those big organizations. The ones who didn’t care about their agents’ lives and were all about rules rules rules.
So when you went into an interview for Lockwood and co - a tiny little agency that has just as much bad news coverage as good - it was perfect
It was also the first time you had met Anthony lockwood. Clever and compassionate, as well as exactly what you needed in a boss and associate.
As well as everything you wanted in a partner. It didn’t hurt that he was ridiculously handsome and charming.
Joining Lockwood and co was the best decision that you had ever made, although it was difficult to ignore your growing feelings for Lockwood
Unbeknownst to you at the time, however, Lockwood was thinking the exact same things. Quickly growing infatuated with you
The two of you avoided your feelings for a while, although they were obvious to everyone who knew you two
It was only when Lockwood got hurt on a mission one time that you finally confessed how you felt. It was in the heat of the moment, and you regretted it the moment that you did.
You thought he would reject you. You were absolutely sure someone as perfect as him wouldn’t bother with someone like you.
But instead, he kissed you. Shocking and exhilarating you. It felt like the best moment of your life.
He was an amazing kisser. Gentle and passionate, holding your face and pulling you as close to him as possible. When he finally separated from you, you were almost dizzy with awe.
When it came to relationships, Lockwood had avoided his feelings before your confession. But once you both knew how the other felt, he was immediately invested in being your boyfriend.
Making you breakfast in the mornings, taking you out on little dates, sharing his favourite books or songs with you.
He want to know everything about you. Every thought, every opinion. Your mind was fascinating and beautiful to him.
Lockwood would be very protective of you, always wanting to keep you close. You were the best thing in his life, he’d be an idiot if he lost you
Eventually his problems letting people in began to take a toll, and you argued a bit. It got to the point where you gave him a choice. “Either trust me, or let me go.”
He chose you. He’d always choose you.
Things got even better after you guys solved that. No secrets. And because he trusted you, you felt like you could trust him completely as well.
He was everything to you. The world you lived in was dark and dangerous, and he was your anchor. Keeping your from being drags into the depths of hopelessness
The rest of Lockwood and co were your biggest supporters. They were amazed at how you were able to get Lockwood to open up, to both yourself and the whole team. And they were just glad that you had someone who treated you as well as you deserved.
You and Lockwood would lie in bed at night, talking about your future, about your dreams. Every situation you planned out had you both, together forever.
Neither of you could imagine a world where you two weren’t together.
He was your love, your partner, your best friend. And you were his.

Forever laughing at the creeping shadow “there were 5 of them and only 4 beds” scenario, because the obvious solution was for Lucy and Holly to take the double bed (since let’s be honest, that’s more or less normalized for girls) and for the boys to roll the camp bed into the room with the twins and each have their own twin bed.
And instead we get one of the boys getting the double bed for themself and Kipps sleeping in a hall closet

Lockwood & Co Headcanons
First Kiss
Tumblr media
Lucy
it's tentative, gentle, slow. she cups your face with one hand and holds your waist with the other. the two of you had been left behind by the boys as they went to the archive. lucy made you a cup of tea and the steam from the mugs heats both your faces as she leans in. you close the gap with a smile on your face.
George
it's a little bit awkward, his glasses bumping your nose. you have both your hands placed at the base of his neck. the two of you had been alone after a day of research and had gone for pizza. he leaned across the table and kissed you, a sudden surge of bravery pushing him to make a move after thinking of you for months. you're only too happy to reciprocate.
Lockwood
it's heated, his hands wrapping into your hair as he presses his lips to yours. the two of you just barely survived a mission, not having prepared properly. it just reminded him how easy it would have been to lose you and he couldn't take it. you were very, very happy to let him know you weren't planning on leaving anytime soon.

Rewatching Lockwood & Co one of the smartest choices I think the writers made in adapting the novels was to show Lockwood on his back foot, visibly shaken, struggling. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it's that much more effective.
The entire Winkmans arc, from him trying to charm his way out of the situation and realising that he has drastically misjudged how people outside of his world react to his slick polished posh charm and that Lucy might be killed because of it you see the panic set in.
That's something that I think the series really excels at is showing that for all that they have brought up in a world where they are fighting on the front lines, they are still children who need protecting even if they don't realise it.
this is never more evident than his panic attack after the undercover agent is killed (in so far as he knows) because of his actions. that the cordial rules of polite society in so-called civilisation where killing a DEPRAC agent would simply never happen because you wouldn't be able to get away with it, their status protects them.
The idea that all the iron, salt, and silver in the world means nothing to Winkmans, that youth, money, power, status--none of those things can protect him. He has no defences for that kind of attack.
That is the most vulnerable we have ever seen him, when he can't breathe and he can't think and he just completely overwhelmed by what just happened because up until that point I think he really genuinely felt like he was in control. it's the shocking realisation that he has so much less power, and so much less control over what happens once he's outside a very specific sphere.
Lucy on the other hand never had any illusions about how much power and control she doesn't have and about the people around her. she learned at very young age that nobody else was going to stick their neck out for her and it was her job to keep herself and her friends safe. and she doesn't trust anyone to follow any kind of rules of supposed civilisation because she seen people at their worst and she presumes the worst of everybody at all times because that's been her life experience up until that point.
What I find most fascinating is Flo because she is both an observer with a foot in both worlds and also the most pragmatic, practical, level-headed person in the entire series. she is even more so than Barnes & Wade the only one with a truely healthy perspective. and I really love her scenes with George on the boat and we wouldn't have got that if it weren't for the television series and I will forever be so incredibly happy that we got telly! Flo and telly!George.
I am dying to learn how and when Lockwood decided to channel all of his energy and all of his intellect into that slick public persona and shell of confidence. who taught him that? who taught him that that was the way to achieve what he set as his goals? there has to been an example in his life and it doesn't have to be a positive example but a really strong example that he is following. and that has got me thinking more and more about writing something set pre-series.

Locklyle are more than just boyfriend/girlfriend
Now I know that Lockwood and Lucy definitely cannot just simplify their relationship after the 5 books to just boyfriend and girlfriend (they've been through too much with each other for those titles), but we can all agree that they'd LOVEE calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend so much because they're young and they giggle and blush everytime they hear that
