I adore how Tatsuya Endo writes his characters, especially the women. They can be warm, soft, cute, cool, tough, scary... all, if not most, of his ladies in Spy x Family are equally wonderful in their own way, both in character design and personality.

I want to give my own thoughts and interpretation on Albrecht and loid's relationship.

From what I see it's most likely a one sided love, as in Loid loved Albrecht much deeper then he did. Albrecht cared for him very much but not as deeply as Loid did.

People talking about how aging up Damian and Anya to ship them being a ‘red flag’ is so weird to me. It’s like... has there been collective amnesia that ‘childhood friend/crush’ is very much it’s own popular trope with romantic anime and manga? Like this isn’t a case of S*kimich*n aging up Anya with the express intent to sexualize her, its basically someone saying, “oh they’re cute, and obviously Damian’s crush is very much its own plot point, but they’re also little kids, so if they ever have a relationship, I don’t see that happening until they’re older and have stronger concepts of themselves and of romantic love.” And again, the ‘childhood friend/crush’ trope is also definitely a factor here, as well as probably the ‘tsundere’ factor on Damian’s end.

#and even then any aged-up fanart I've seen of them I've seen has been exceedingly innocent fluff #like I don't even really ship them because hey they're kids and loid and yor are the bigger ship draw for me #but I do think the claims of it being a red flag are in really bad faith

To be honest I have always thought of each Vocaloid's engine update as separate entities, but their individual voicebanks are just in one person. So Miku V2 and Miku V3 are different people, but Miku V2_Sweet and Miku V2_Original are the same person. Also I switch between thinking of Vocaloids as just a bunch of computer people living in files, and Vocaloids as physical robot beings who need things like maintenance and to be plugged into the wall to charge. Just my thoughts from my brain.

Okay so I have a thought/headcanon about Spy X Family.

Anya always does a little hand pat on people when she notices they're upset as a comfort. Which is super cute.

But what's even cuter is, I think she got is from Loid.

In the first episode, when he officially decides to keep her after rescuing her from the thugs, he acknowledges it by putting his hand on her head:

And then in episode 2, when Anya gets worried that Loid having her is preventing him from finding a wife, he again reaches out and rubs her head while assuring her it's not her fault:

He also pats her head in the episode after she gets accepted into Eden and she tells him she's going to do her best.

I think there's some others but I don't feel like trying to find them 😅

Anyway, I think Anya pats people to comfort them because she felt loved when Loid did it to her. I would guess she's never really been given physical affection before, and so Loid doing that made an impact on her, and that's why she does it to others.

I think the thing about Spy X Family that I love so much about it is that there IS like suspense and tension, but it's never like…."these two characters are upset at each other and it makes me uncomfortable."

In situations where that kind of deal arises, it's either portrayed in such a goofy and over the top manner that it doesn't come across as disconcerting, OR it's a scenario where WE as the audience are in the know, and we know pretty much everything. And even then, the characters react out of LOVE and CONCERN rather than distrust or fear.

The perfect example of this is when Yor gets wounded and Loid IMMEDIATELY thinks she hates him. What does he do? HE COMES UP WITH EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY-TWO DATE IDEAS THAT WILL NOT ONLY MAKE THINGS EASIER ON YOR BUT ALSO WILL SHOW HOW MUCH HE LOVES AND APPRECIATES HER.

And how does Yor react? SHE DOES HER DAMNEDEST TO MAKE LOID HAPPY BY ENGAGING IN HIS CUTE DATE IDEAS. Even though she feels rough and is in pain and is worried about not being grateful enough, she struggles through because she knows how important this all is to LOID.

After so many fucking rom/coms (which, let's be real here, Spy X Family is a fucking rom/com) having miscommunications be poor and lazy excuses for conflict and lies and hurt, Spy X Family is over here using miscommunications for growth and as opportunities for KINDNESS and CARE.

And that's because they trust each other SO DAMN MUCH. I don't think I've seen a media property where conflict is used for positive growth as consistently and with such skill.

The strongest metal must pass through the crucible, but the crucible need not be one of stress and fracture. Let yourself be forged stronger by care, by reassurance, and by love.
