You guys. He literally is saying so much here. He always says so much but you have to really dig between the lines, usually. And I love that about him. I feel like I'm building sand castles with him with my little shovel, scooping away to try to get to the core of his being and all he means to say.

He really is so terrified of losing her again.

Holding her in those ruins? I can feel it in my ribs. It had to take him back to that first moment when she died in his arms as a teenager. That feeling of helplessness and despair. And he's trying to convey it to her so gently here.

Hey could you try not throwing yourself into exceptionally dangerous situations? I'm terrified of losing you. You're special enough to me that I don't care that you know who I am at this point. I would love not to have you die in my arms again thanks.

(I think it may be fair to say that he wants so badly to matter to her in a way that makes her care about herself too. Am I reading too deeply into that???)

No but yeah, he really desperately is trying his best to keep her safe and intact here and it's nice that, much like Queen!MC, current!MC can take decent care of herself but, he's got a point.

She throws herself into a lot of situations and sometimes I hate to say it but it's... very much loner mentality. She's an orphan, and did have her adoptive family for however long, but I imagine a lot of independence came with it and even more still when she was living at University and then straight on to the Deepspace Hunter academy... She's already been on her own a while. And especially after losing the only family she had? She's extra alone. It's like... ok. She's not being unnecessarily reckless but at this point she doesn't have very many people in her life to consciously come home to. And I think he knows that, and he's desperately trying to be that for her.

He's bandaging her wounds, he's staying the night, he's really trying to be an anchor for her as much as she's literally a tether for him and always has been. He needs her with him, and he wants to be the person she comes home to.

And he's willing to bare a lot to say that here, and I think it just shows how much he's really not saying also. I think he's just overflowing and this is the spillover. There is SO MUCH more there. I can't wait to see more of it.

OK ok... weird suggestion but... what if Zayne likes the thought of PDA, but doesn't show it/do it because once he has his hands on you, he'll either, A.) Get really nervous in public and doesn't want to mess it up for you & himself and as a result of that have ppl judge him, or because of B.) Because he'll take it too far...? 👀

Like I think a lot about that line in Business Trip where after he meets MC at the train station and he's just looking at her, yknow, ogling her, eyeing her up & down, and MC is just like ?!?!?! Why isn't he doing anything?!?!?! But then when he gets home with MC, we all know he's like super touchy n shit and says that line, "What would you have liked me to do in front of all of those people, hmm?"

Like to me, that says he knows he would've LOVED to kiss MC or something, but if he did he probably would've lost control bent her over on the train platform LMAO

Like I know he loves his privacy with MC so he can do anything with her without the eyes of the public judging them, but like after that Tutorial card... it has me thinking he wouldn't mind taking her in public if he could... 👀 hehe

I cannot remember who it was that suggested this (maybe @wolfofcelestia ???) that narrative-wise we're slowly seeing Zayne get more and more comfortable (aka braver) with PDA as his relationship with mc goes on. Because if you compare the brief physical contact in Nostalgic Sweetness when she grabs his chin (and he gets all huffy and flustered with her and grabs her hand away) vs the Tutorial where he's literally scooping her into his arms for a full on make out only to have her push him back down and then he's like "Ah naw you dont" and pulls an Uno Reverse on her and slides between her legs and pins her to the table (where people could walk in)?!?!

Like I genuinely think this is character growth and it looks soooo good on our man. We gotta remember that she is his first relationship EVER so I think a lot of it is what you said with him just not really knowing. Yeah he's private and reserved but also he doesn't know what he's comfortable with because he hasn't experienced it yet. So it stands to reason some of that will change as his experiences do as well. Zayne has some pretty incredible levels of self-control when he chooses to use them (which he can be very bad about), so your idea could also play into it a bit as well. The longer he's with mc the more we see him slipping in terms of letting his guard down. He's becoming softer, more playful, rising to her bait on purpose. He's wilfully engaging in her childish antics far more often now and it's freaking adorable and opening him up to a lot more of these kinds of moments.

But that's just my 1 am opinions 😅

Like he traveled back in time to save you from your fate which means Philos can’t exist. He can’t exist.

We’re talking space-time continuum shit here. If Xavier and the backtrackers cease to exist in the future, do they disappear in the past as well?

Total erasure of existence. Isn’t it worse than death? At least the dead can be remembered by those still living.

That’s why, try as he might, Xavier ends up giving in to spend every “now” with you that he can.

YOU FINALLY DID? Evieeeeee I am screeching about this

Xavier's myth really solidified everything for me, about the story they're building, about what they're conveying, about who he is even in the main timeline.

What's so, so sad is that even if Xavier never returns to be with MC, or if she ends up with someone else, His course of action never changes, he will never stop fighting to save her. No matter what.

(that few weeks he was convinced she was in love with Jeremiah and told her it was fine!! I SCREAM. HE WOULD LITERALLY RATHER HER BE HAPPY WITH SOMEONE ELSE THAN SAD OVER HIM. Because he knows he's too busy trying to save her to really spend the time investing in reciprocating her feelings and being there for her the way she deserves. BUT it hurts him sooo so much he literally has to avoid her until he can settle his thoughts and when he realizes that she still, after everything, after centuries, only has eyes for him, he makes all sorts of promises that he can hardly hope to keep.)

If the myth really is just a myth (they have not actually confirmed its veracity in the main timeline) its still such a painful insight into who he is as a man, who he wants to become.

He hates nothing more than fate being chosen for him and he'll fight through the nose to ensure that MC's fate is not sealed, so she can have the sense of freedom that she once gave him.
