Amazingly, two Textile Artworks of The Year are being sold next week, in Stockholm and London, and they could not be more different. Marie Louise Ekman kicked off the TAwOTY for Swedish royal textile weavers AB Märta Måås-Fjetterström in 2002 with her untitled depiction of a draped figure breastfeeding a draped hovering child. That one's in Stockholm.
Meanwhile, Olafur Eliasson's The Green Glass Carpet (2010) is selling in London after hanging for seven years in the now-closed outpost of the NY Swedish restaurant Aquavit.
The whereabouts of HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark's 2009 TAwOTY is not known, but it is thought to not be currently for sale.
