The connection between Tidus and Shuyin
Hi everyone.  I said I would explain my theory of the connection between Shuyin and Tidus, so here it is!
This is a topic I’ve been contemplating since 2003 when I first played FFX-2.  It’s pretty much accepted in the fandom that Tidus is the dream version of Shuyin.  But the fact is, neither of the games actually ever say this fact in so many words.  So some people have argued that they just look alike - and nothing else.  This is backed up by the Ultimania (rightfully) pointing out there is a 1,000 year difference between the start of Dream Zanarkand and the birth of Tidus. Because of this, many people believe Tidus could be a descendant of Dream Shuyin, but nothing further.  Others believe there’s no real connection between them at all - stating their personalities are too different.
I personally don’t agree with those theories. I personally don’t believe they are not connected - since the game so heavily implies they are.  I DO, however, believe Tidus is a descendant of Dream Shuyin, but he is ALSO the dream version of Shuyin.
Confused?
I will explain at the bottom of this post.  But first, I want to debunk the notion that they simply look and sound alike, and nothing else.  I want to prove that Tidus is the dream version of Shuyin.
The evidence:
They look alike
This one is obvious.  Shuyin and Tidus look enough alike that it made Yuna, Kimhari, Rikku, Lulu, and Wakka all believe the sphere containing his image was Tidus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, do they look exactly alike?  No.  But there is a 1,000 year difference between them.  This begs the question of how Tidus could be a dream version of Shuyin if 1,000 years separate them? (Remember, Tidus did NOT time travel.  He was born in modern day Dream Zanarkand, which physically resided off the coast of Baaj Temple).  I’ll explain my theory on how Tidus and Shuyin can be separated by 1,000 years AND Tidus can still be the dream version of Shuyin.  And the theory I hold explains the small difference between them.  But for now, I think they look close enough alike to establish there is a connection between them.
Color scheme
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pictures above show the character models of both Tidus and Shuyin.  They both have the same blonde hair.  Both have a blue shoulder pad (Tidus has one and Shuyin has both sides - also note the above Shuyin picture is darker, but the shoulder pads are blue).  They are both wearing a shirt under their overalls - which is yellow.  Their overalls are black. They both have an arm guard on their left hand, with some red coloring above the arm guard (Tidus’ mesh red and Shuyin’s checkered red and black. Both have black pants (although Tidus is missing some of his.  lol)  And both have yellow and black boots.  Both have blue swords (Shuyin’s is darker here, but in the game his sword is blue).  Their color scheme is essentially the same - yellow, red, black, and blue
 Voice
I probably won’t have to go into detail with this one.  They have the same voice actor.  lol.  Shuyin’s voice is deeper than Tidus’, but it is essentially the same voice as Tidus’.  If you listen to Tidus during the more serious scenes of X and X-2, you can hear him lose the more higher pitch sound of his voice, and the voice becomes more like Shuyin’s.  My guess is that when they’re both serious, they sound the same.  Maybe when Shuyin was happy and fun-loving, his voice was more like Tidus’?
Moves/Overdrives
This is the one which I think absolutely refutes the idea that Tidus and Shuyin are not connected, which states Tidus is not a dream version of Shuyin.  You could make the case that it’s coincidence they look and sound similar.  You can make the case that Tidus might just be related to the real dream Zanarkand Shuyin (the great-great-great-great-however many greats 1,000 years would be grandson of Dream Shuyin), but these arguments make NO SENSE considering they have LITERALLY THE SAME OVERDRIVES.  Please watch the following videos to see what I mean:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOhfLkHpJ7I
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWwdJKrZpvc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKBsz2_ldQE
Their overdrives are the same.  Tidus’ Spiral Cut is Shuyin’s Spin Cut.  Tidus’ Slice and Dice is Shuyin’s Hit and Run.  Tidus’ Energy Rain is Shuyin’s Force Rain.  And Tidus’ Blitz Ace is Shuyin’s Terror of Zanarkand (heh. my username)
Also note their mannerisms and battle stance in the videos.  The models for battles are the exact same in animation
Overly emotional and acts before thinking/saving the summoner at all costs
Both Tidus and Shuyin are overly emotional - they are both quick to anger, quick to become upset, and both don’t hide their emotions in very well.  Tidus shows this consistently throughout X and Shuyin’s rage and despair become so intense it starts possessing people.  They both had the mindset of “I need to save the summoner at all costs”.  They difference between Tidus and Shuyin is that Tidus succeeded, Shuyin did not.  It makes you wonder what Tidus would have been like if he hadn’t succeeded?  Or what Shuyin would have been like if he had succeeded?
Den of Woe possessions - The hug
Here’s another one that I just cannot fathom how someone can see this scene and think “yeah no, there’s no real connection between these two.  Them looking alike is merely coincidence”
Shuyin possesses people when they enter the Den of Woe.  You see this in numerous spheres and when the characters enter the Den of Woe.  Typically, his pyreflies invade their minds/bodies.  No real dramatic moment of possession.  But notice how he choices to possess Rikku and Yuna:

Now compare to the hug between Tidus and Yuna: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRWkniXDC_4 (3:20)
And this scene during the Sad Ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3vO3cgBSDM (13:45)
“He’s like a dream... or a nightmare” “2 year old nightmare - older than that”
In X-2, Shuyin is referred to as a nightmare
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2M7QzNj8wQ (:45) and (7:15).  I believe this is referencing the fact that Tidus is a dream, and Shuyin is the nightmare.
“This is our story, Lenne”
Tumblr media
Come on now...there can’t be two idiots running around saying this without them being connected.  Come on.
Here’s another one that is just screaming “TIDUS” in our faces.  Jump to 3:46
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2M7QzNj8wQ
If Shuyin and Tidus weren’t connected, don’t you think this would be a wild coincidence that they have essentially the same catch phrase?  Others use the “story” catchphrase too, like Auron saying it to Tidus, and Yuna stating it.  But Auron is the one who gave him the idea of “This is your story”.  Yuna says it because she was inspired by Tidus.  Why would Shuyin be saying it if it wasn’t something he typically said to Lenne?
Maechen implies it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lIjDUUw6h8
“The fact that he should look like the man in that sphere cannot be mere coincidence” - Maechen, in the video game stating it’s not a coincidence they look alike.  This takes place during Chapter 3.
Maechen is also about to make what the connection is - Shuyin is a real person who lived in real Zanarkand.  Tidus, residing in dream Zanarkand, is a dream of someone from real Zanarkand.  After discovering Tidus is a dream, Maechen suddenly comes to the realization, but then conveniently (for plot reasons - they can’t just tell us at this point in the story), forgets what he’s about to say.
“Put that crybaby to sleep”
Jecht refers to Shuyin as a crybaby like he did with Tidus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOhfLkHpJ7I (1:06)
“Whatever his name, the youth endeavored to steal the machina weapon and save Lenne/His name has been lost to history”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPrESKqROys (32:10)
While discussing the history of Lenne and Shuyin, Maechen forgets Shuyin’s name.  I have a feeling this was intentional.  He refers to Shuyin as “whatever his name” and says “his name has been lost to history”.  Why would the writers have that in the script?  Because Tidus’ name is never once stated in X or X-2.  In their world, Tidus’ name was also lost to history.  He was constantly referred to as “Him”, “Star player”, “Son of Jecht”, etc.
Image from Illustration book stating he’s a blitzball player
I have a theory Shuyin is a blitzball player.  This is never actually stated in the game, but it is stated in the  FINAL FANTASY X-2 Visual Art Collection Illustration Book
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Use of Wakka’s ultimate weapon. And ability to do final part of overdrive/move
Shuyin’s overdrive (Terror of Zanarkand) also features Wakka’s ultimate weapon (World Champion)
Tumblr media
Shuyin was also able to complete the final part of the overdrive which requires him to kick the ball in a fashion Tidus was able to do to impress Wakka and Besaid Aurochs; something Shuyin wouldn’t know how to do unless he was also a talented Blitzball player.
“I’m grateful you stayed with me until the end”
This is something which is stated between Yuna and Tidus, and Yuna (as Lenne) and Shuyin
“I saw this sphere of you”
Ultimately Yuna still refers to the sphere as one of Tidus, even at the end of the game.
Tumblr media
Okay, so now that I’ve established they are connected somehow - the question becomes: how are they connected?
Many people point to the fact that FFX-2 Ultimania guide states
“The appearance and voice of Shuyin resemble Tidus, but the two are completely different in actuality. Shuyin is a man of the past; he lived 1000 years ago in Zanarkand, the metropolis city of summoners. Tidus, a pyreform, was a resident of its summoned replica, Dream Zanarkand. Be that as it may, Dream Zanarkand was in fact created with the idea in mind that it be the ideal [representation] of Zanarkand's existance, a wish given form. Since its existence was the model for everything in Dream Zanarkand, this extends to its inhabitants also. When thinking about this with regard to Tidus, one cannot deny the possibility that this [was the case] with his personage and Shuyin. However, most inhabitants of Dream Zanarkand would marry one another and have children, continuing the cycle of life. For this reason, the genes of the dream's inhabitants began to blend in a complicated way, and with these impurities, the duplication of [Shuyin's] personage cannot be certain. Even if it is true that Shuyin was the model for Tidus, this would not mean that their connection is close.”
https://www.ign.com/faqs/2006/final-fantasy-x-2-ultimania-faq-702971
What this is stating is that Dream Shuyin would have lived 1,000 years ago when Dream Zanarkand began.  Tidus lives in modern day Dream Zanarkand.  Tidus, though, could be the descendant of Dream Shuyin.  It then goes on to make the conclusion there is not much of a connection (even though the game directly says there is).  In my opinion, the Ultimania is right that Tidus is the descendant of Dream Shuyin.  But also, I do believe the analysis is wrong, because he IS Dream Shuyin at the same time.  How can this be?
The Fayth create the people in Dream Zanarkand based on the people that lived in Real Zanarkand.
Tumblr media
This would have happened 1,000 years ago.  I imagine they probably would have made, at most, 4 generations of Zanarkand(ians?) dream people.  Group A being the oldest generation.  Then group B.  Then group C. And group D being the babies.  Once Group A died out, and the other groups began to grow up, there would be a need for another generation - Group E - a generation which never existed in the Real Zanarkand.
The Fayth probably would need inspiration for making this Group E generation, and considering they only had the original 4 generations as a guide/inspiration, Group A would have come back in the form of Group E.  They would have reused the pyreflies to reacreate the people of Group A. Meaning, the babies of group E were actually a remake of group A.  Think of it like reincarnation.  The Fayth couldn’t create brand new people because they were specifically dreaming the memories and people of the original Zanarkand, so they essentially recycled the same people over and over again. This is reflected in the quote from the Ultimania: “However, most inhabitants of Dream Zanarkand would marry one another and have children, continuing the cycle of life. For this reason, the genes of the dream’s inhabitants began to blend in a complicated way, and with these impurities, the duplication of [Shuyin’s] personage cannot be certain”
“Even if it is true that Shuyin was the model for Tidus, this would not mean that their connection is close.”
To me, this is saying Tidus can still be a model of Shuyin, but after 1,000 years; their connection and similarities aren’t going to be close because a millennium has passed. Tidus has changed over the years to become his own person.
Back to the generations theory- Group B would die out and become group F.  Group C would die out about become group G.  Etc, etc, etc.  With each hundred of years or so, the same people would keep reappearing - albeit with differences because the Fayth have been dreaming for a long time and are likely to forget some details. Each generation would see the dream people becoming unique compared to the original dreams, and unique compared to the original residents of real Zanarkand.
With time, Group A became Group E (and were slightly different), then they were Group I (with differences again), then Group M (with differences), Group Q (with even more differences), etc.  This would actually be beneficial for the Fayth to do, they can continue making the same people over and over (never running out of material); and the small difference made between each generation would make it seem as though the family has certain qualities and traits which run in the family...but the differences would be enough that it wouldn’t cause suspicion (like hey...this family has had a blitzball played named Jecht for several generations. And his story is always the same... How odd).  Maybe with each generation, they gained a new name and other new things about them so that they’re not -entirely- the same.  There would be differences compared to the previous generations.
I imagine Tidus would have been the tenth incarnation of Shuyin (going by the every 100 years rule).  Ten turns out be a neat number considered the game’s titles being of the tenth in the series.  Tidus would simultaneously be the reincarnation of Dream Shuyin (the 10th incarnation of Dream Shuyin), and he’d be the descendant of Dream Shuyin (and hence, not the original.  And this explains the differences between Tidus and Shuyin - they’re close; but not exactly the same).  Tidus would be an imperfect memory of Shuyin.  This theory both fits with the Ultimania and with the evidence found in the game.  It fits with what most fans believe - that Tidus is the dream version of Shuyin.  But it also accounts for the differences between them, as well as the 1,000 year time difference between them. So, ultimately, Tidus is still his own unique person; but his template is based on a memory of Shuyin
I hope this makes sense.  Let me know what you all think

FFX Reliveblogging Part...4?
I'm grinding in the Omega Ruins in my other save, and mildly frustrated because Tidus has the highest strength in the party but......chocobo racing sucks, so he's capped at 9999 damage. Meanwhile Auron in yellow HP is doing 50k and hit 99,999 with a crit. Just the once, but it got me that trophy. I'm pretty sure Auronlu has already talked a lot about the Luca/Bevelle Crusaders/Warrior Monks conflict taking place in the background of the game. It first really comes up in Maechen's little discourse about the history of Lord Mi'ihen. Notable is that the Crusaders, originally founded as the Crimson Blades, were not originally part of the Yevonite power structure, but were subsumed presumably as an alternative to holy war. (Which is kind of hilarious, considering the our-world history of "Crusaders".) Ahhhh it's my favorite lesbians! And Clasko. I could say a lot of unkind things about the Battle Thongs, but the narrative at least never treats Lucil (and Elma) with less than total respect. Which I guess just shows how...gratuitous the clothing is. It's completely inconsistent with the characters. Bad design. Speaking of outfits, I looooove Belgemine's dress. It's so elegant! I'm pretty fond of her as a person, as well. And not just because she heals our aeons for us. She is a lady. I mean, also an undead, but it's rude to comment on these things. I usually lose this first aeon duel, but I'll give it my all anyway. Yes! I got off two Energy Blasts with a whole 37 HP to spare! Is Belgemine looking for Yuna specifically? Did she maybe meet Braska, either while alive or after death? Or is she just meeting up with all the promising summoners to see if one of them will prove worthy of her sisters? She's so mysterious and cool, I love her. Everyone has to practice their smiling faces when little kids cheer for Yuna bringing the Calm. It's very awkward, especially for Callie's mom, who does know. Now I'm talking to Luzzu and Gatta again, which of course leads me to the eternal question: who shall live and who shall die, who by fire and who by drowning, who by sword and who by beast. It's like the one branching-paths decision we make in this game, which means I think about it a lot. Additionally, when I first played this game I was deep in my Achilles/Patroclus phase and these two gave me feelings. They still do, but now the feelings contain a strong element of nostalgia. This area is just full of NPCs I love. Shelinda is a doormat, but I am fond of her. Even if it a bit rich of her to say, "It's not about defeating Sin!" to a summoner. Defeating Sin is everything to Yuna. And she still goes out of her way to make Shelinda feel better. Yuna is so kind. Auron does not have time for your racist bullshit, Wakka. Also we're all low on MP, especially you, and MP is life. We are not doing the other half of the Highroad like this. Continued adventures of endeavoring not to boost Lulu's affection through the roof. Lu, I love you, and I love talking to you, but please, let me get cutscenes with Yuna. I firmly believe that Yuna asked her guardians not to tell Tidus the full truth, after this scene if not before. She doesn't want him to change how he treats her. (How he treats her: giving her minor crises of faith every time they talk, but in a good way.) She's in a particularly yearning mood here, not least because she's just been recording her will. And here comes Tidus, acting like she has a future... (And all her other guardians pretending not to be eavesdropping.) (Up until Auron can't take it anymore, anyway.) Enter Rin, Al Bhed ambassador (unofficial). At least, he's the one out there taking up space and being Highly Visible, suggesting strangers learn the language, doing all that stuff. He is, however, definitely wearing a kink collar. No, I do not know why. I knocked the Chocobo Eater off the cliff for the very first time! Usually I kill it before pushing it that far back, but with Lulu, Auron, and Tidus all hasted, it didn't get enough turns to push back. This is usually the part of the game where I save the chocobo ride for later and grind for Ability Spheres. With Extract Ability, this will probably take less time than usual, though I also appreciate the extra AP. Plus I want to get Kimahri 'round to Steal ASAP. [Some time later] I wonder what Dona does between getting turned away at the gate and meeting us in Djose. Is there another way around, or does she just wait until Operation Mi'ihen explodes and take the main road? She's quite close behind us. I wonder if she stays to help with the aftermath as well, or if she just heads onward. She definitely got ahead of us at some point (Guadosalam if not before). I find her blend of selfishness and selflessness very intriguing. Seymour's moving on Yuna even here. I wonder if he picked her over Dona and Isaaru because she was the one he happened to encounter, or if it was deliberate: she's younger, more naive certainly than Dona, and certainly seems very devout (liable to be dazzled by a maester's attention), less experienced...younger. But I expect Seymour would have gotten quite a long way with Isaaru, who is after all the most devout of the three - and besides, if Seymour told him what becomes of a chosen guardian, Isaaru might do a lot to keep his brothers from that fate. Seymour says all the right things to and about the Crusaders, even things Tidus thinks (and we are likely to think) are true, but he doesn't mean any of them. He just wants the operation to occur as part of his power struggle with Kinoc, with a bonus of having an effect on Yuna, making her more urgently want to complete the pilgrimage before more people die. I doubt Auron's 100% got Seymour's specific number yet, but he does know he's a maester, and Auron is the founder of Team Fuck Yevon. He knows you don't move up in the ranks without stepping on the people below you. (I mean, also Seymour advocates blatant hypocrisy, which is just the Yevon leadership trademark.) Being asked to perform the sending before people die may be more of a burden than being asked after. That's a heavy emotional burden to place on a teenager. (Although I do think legal/cultural adulthood in Spira is younger than it is for us - life is short no time for childhood.) Fact: the first time I played, I didn't even notice Luzzu and Gatta standing over there and missed the scene entirely. It's a good scene, and really highlights how much Tidus still doesn't understand on a gut level. He sees Gatta wanting to fight, and doesn't think that he could die, and of course there're warring impulses there. God though, the HD remaster takes all the character out of Wakka's face, and I hate it. You know, some people might see saying, "I'll propose when we win the cup," as meaning, "when pigs fly". But I guess that doesn't make sense considering Lulu's behavior. "Being with your girl is good, but keeping Sin far away from her is better." God. Men. I mean, in Spira it's not just men - Lulu went on two pilgrimages to try to keep Yuna alive - but she's also not someone who appreciates being protected. Yeah, Tidus doesn't understand yet why Yuna let Luzzu go, because he doesn't know that she's going to her death, too. And if she feels it right to ignore all the people she loves and who love her telling her not to go, then it's right for Luzzu to do the same. They both think saving the world is more important. Wakka, Wakka no, Wakka don't - see? Racism and religious fundamentalism leads to hurting yourself by kicking a cannon when you're wearing sandals. (I do appreciate the realism though.) I flipped a coin, and it looks like this run, Gatta lives and Luzzu dies. I don't really have an opinion on which is best; it's tragic either way. Though I guess it feels a little more narratively awful to have Tidus naively suggesting Gatta go to the front lines where he gets killed...But the coin has spoken. I appreciate how they give Kinoc character and relationships in so little time. Just his intro - he walks up and hugs Auron, not a huggable person - says something. Auron is still stiff and cagey with him, but that he allowed himself to be embraced says there's more there. Of course, he's also plotting Operation Mi'ihen to break the Crusaders (and, if X-2 is taken into account, setting up the deaths of the Crimson Squad - I think to take out potential rivals), so it's not like he's a good person or anything. But he's less flat. Got the overkill on Gui with ease, thanks to Energy Blast. (And got everyone AP.) Man, Sin's arrival is Lovecraftian as fuck. I like it. The black tendrils snaking through the bay... top creepiness. How Lucil, Elma, and Clasko - how anyone - survived Sin's blast I'll never know. People were disintegrated where they stood! I also don't know how Seymour, a full caster, has the Strength to physically hold off Gui2. It's been weakened, sure, but come the heck on. (His Summon command, which he must have, is also not there. I guess we're not allowed to get a sneak peek of Anima yet.) I appreciate the extra touch of giving Seymour AP, to trick you into thinking he's going to join the party long-term. :C They almost got a shot off on Sin, but unfortunately, horseshoes and hand grenades. Also heartrending: the messages that come up when you check the corpses. Shut up, Seymour, I have another Energy Blast in me. Besides, he could go for Sin at any time; he has his Final Aeon, after all. But he won't. He'd rather destroy the world than save it with his death. And he wants Yuna to feel helpless, so she'll feel like she needs him. Oh no the dead kid who we saw practicing to avenge his sister...no...stop it... Before Jecht came to Spira, his drinking didn't have real consequences to him. He was "still the best", after all. He still had a wife who wouldn't leave him. He hurt other people, but they didn't confront him about it. It took Spira to make him see that it was a problem. Hell of a thing to put on your kid, like, "Hey, son, can I get a mercy kill? Thanks." Though I guess that is...I mean, end-of-life care is a traditional part of a child's duties. Just...not usually in your teens.

Mezzo Plays Final Fantasy X: Part 11
Yuna and her guardians have managed to escape pursuit, but they'll have to stay away from Bevelle in the future.
Tumblr media
They camp in Macalania Woods for the night. Yuna seems to have gone off on her own, though.
Tumblr media
Tidus finds her wading in a nearby pond.
Tumblr media
He takes the time to apologize to her for everything he cluelessly said, about what she'd do after defeating Sin. Yuna accepts it gracefully, saying that it made her happy, not said.
Tumblr media
She thinks that maybe she should just give it all up. Tidus agrees, and says that maybe she could go to Zanarkand with him, enjoy a blitzball game, and party all night long.
Tumblr media
But she can't. She can't give it up, not while Sin is still alive.
Tumblr media
Romance between the male and female leads of a Final Fantasy is pretty common, but to my knowledge this is the only one with an onscreen kiss.
Tumblr media
The lovebirds dive into the pool together, sharing an underwater kiss too.
Tumblr media
Yuna's resolve is a bit better after that. She requests that Tidus stay with her until the end, and he agrees. He is her guardian, after all.
Tumblr media
They walk back to camp hand in hand, and inform the other guardians that they leave at dawn.
Tumblr media
This is their next destination. The Calm Lands are a great plain that lies between Bevelle and the Zanarkand ruins. This is traditionally where summoners defeat Sin and bring the Calm, hence the name.
Tumblr media
Yuna lies on her back and looks up at the sky a moment, and then they proceed onward. Unlike most areas in the game, this is one wide open plain rather than a narrow linear path. The encounter rate is pretty high too.
Tumblr media
We run into Maechen yet again, and he provides some backstory on the place. This was a battlefield in the great machina war, and was abandoned after the rise of Sin. Summoners found it the best place to fight Sin, as there is no inhabited territory nearby.
Tumblr media
Belgemine is here too, and she challenges Yuna to another aeon duel. She isn't really bothered by Yuna being branded a traitor to Yevon, since summoners' true duty is to defeat Sin.
Tumblr media
Yep, it's this again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nogard barely scraped out a victory. Belgemine is impressed, and thinks Yuna has the potential to defeat Sin.
Tumblr media
And she leaves with a hint.
Tumblr media
She also gives us the ability to boost aeons' stats using items. This honestly isn't that useful, since the aeons' stats are boosted along with Yuna's anyway.
Tumblr media
When they stop at a campsite, an old friend of Lulu's shows up to tell the group what's going on with Yevon. Mika has framed them for Kinoc's murder, and Kelk has left Yevon. Seymour's still at large too, but he and Mika don't seem to be getting along. He says it's best for them to avoid any temples for now, and thankfully there aren't any on the path to Zanarkand.
Tumblr media
The chimeras are back, and they've got an edgy recolor now. They're still pretty difficult to deal with.
Tumblr media
Stone Breath works like a charm, though.
Tumblr media
In an alcove on the eastern side of the field, there's a guy setting up a monster arena. He needs captured fiends to fix it up, and sells weapons with the Capture property, allowing you to catch them. We're not really gonna do much with him now, but it's good to know about as this is important for postgame stuff.
Tumblr media
North of the plain lies a small valley, and there a pair of Guado guards request Yuna's presence. She has nothing to discuss with Seymour, naturally.
Tumblr media
So they bring in a robot.
Tumblr media
This thing is basically just a punch bot, but it punches really hard and has lots of HP. It occasionally retaliates with a rocket punch that delays the target's next turn.
Tumblr media
Grand Summon saves the day again. Also, check it out. Nogard is not actually bound by the 9999 damage limit, and with enough power can reach the secondary cap of 99999. This can be unlocked for other characters too, but that's mostly a postgame thing.
Tumblr media
After the robot was junked, I decided not to head forward just yet. There's an alternate path here that leads to something good.
Tumblr media
At the bottom of the gorge lies the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. Lulu knows the place well, as a summoner she guarded once lost her life here.
Tumblr media
The cave, as its name suggests, holds a fayth stolen from a temple. There are some new fiend types in here too.
Tumblr media
These guys are gimmicky and annoying. There are five targetable eyes on their pot and you have to pick the right one. If you do, you get an item. If you guess wrong, it explodes.
Tumblr media
Wakka and Lulu explain that the fayth was likely stolen to prevent summoners from using it to train, and thus, prevent them from sacrificing themselves.
Tumblr media
Hey, we finally found one of these, and now we can activate a Luck Sphere! I decided to place it on Rikku's path, since she seems to be the lucky one.
Tumblr media
These purple things are dark elementals. They're similar to the other elemental-based fiends we've seen, but have no weakness. They can also cast a lot of nasty spells like Bio and Osmose, which drains MP (luckily, Kimahri's Lancet can drain it back). They cast Reflect on themselves too, and will then reflect spells off of themselves onto you.
Tumblr media
Yuna got a new trick to help deal with them. Her Dispel magic removes all buff effects from an enemy, and ignores reflection. Then Lulu and Kimahri can use their spells to finish it off.
Tumblr media
We've picked up a couple of these spheres for the Sphere Grid, and they're quite handy. They let one character immediately learn an ability of the specified type, provided an ally has already acquired it. I used the Special Sphere to teach Steal to Kimahri, as it's always good to have more people who can snatch items.
Tumblr media
Lulu learned the spell Demi, and thanks to a black magic sphere Kimahri got it too. If you remember the tutorial boss, this spell deals damage equal to 1/4 of the enemy's current HP. It's really good to use on high HP enemies, and Lulu can cast it with her Overdrive to dish out some fast-paced whittling down. Bosses are often immune, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
There she is, the unsent soul of the summoner Lulu failed to protect. Yuna attempts a sending, but is blocked by an unknown force.
Tumblr media
Lulu: "Allow me to perform my last duty to you. My last as your guardian."
Tumblr media
She summons an aeon we haven't seen before.
Tumblr media
Yuna's Grand Summon is ready to go.
Tumblr media
A devastating blow, but not quite enough to finish him off.
Tumblr media
Everyone else had to step in, including Lulu of course.
Tumblr media
After the aeon dies, her soul is sent.
Tumblr media
They can now proceed to the chamber of the fayth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fayth asks to be paid before he will join us. His offer: 250,000 gil. Unfortunately, I can't afford that right now, so it's back off to grinding a bit and selling things off. Getting everyone further along the Sphere Grid will help with those late game bosses anyway.
Tumblr media
The nice thing about this being a screenshot LP is that I can skip over a lot of that. But I will take the time to point out a few new fiend types that show up, like this ghost here.
Tumblr media
Its Doom special places a countdown over a character that decreases every turn. When it runs out, they will die.
Tumblr media
Kimahri can learn this as an Overdrive too. Once the ghost was doomed, I had Tidus cast Haste on it, ensuring its counter would count down faster than mine.
Tumblr media
Boom.
Tumblr media
I also went back up to the Calm Lands and did some grinding there. This guy has "bad news" written all over him.
Tumblr media
Its Bad Breath deals out pretty much every negative status of the game, save death and petrification. Still, I had to fight it because yes, Kimahri learns that as an Overdrive too.
Tumblr media
The basilisks from Djose Highroad got an edgy color upgrade too. Rikku (and Kimahri, now that he knows Steal too) can steal petrification grenades from them, a very useful tool.
Tumblr media
I also got the chance to try out a new spell for Lulu. Death summons the grim reaper to take an enemy's soul, ending its life instantly. It doesn't always work, but when it does, it ends the fight in a snap.
Tumblr media
I managed to negotiate the price down to 208,000 gil, and the fayth was satisfied.
Tumblr media
His canon name is Yojimbo, and I got three different people saying I should call him Greg. It's apparently a XIV joke, but I haven't played far enough in XIV to see it. Whatever, his name is Greg now.
Tumblr media
On the way back, I ran across a mysterious apparition.
Tumblr media
Hoo boy, we do not need to be dealing with you right now. This is one of the Dark Aeons, the postgame superbosses. Each one mimics the appearance of an aeon we have. I didn't even realize this thing could show up at this point in the game, and challenging it would be suicide, so I didn't come any closer. Thankfully, there's a nearby warp to go back to the entrance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Greg is unlike any other aeon we've obtained. To use him, you must pay gil for his services, and then he'll randomly use one of his four special attacks. He doesn't have an Overdrive, but filling the bar makes it more likely for him to use his strongest move. Daigoro is an attack from his dog, Kotetsu is a set of throwing knives, and Wakizashi is a slash with the blade at his hip. If you pay him nothing, he leaves.
Tumblr media
And the last one... somehow I was lucky enough to get this on the second try, even though I only paid 200 gil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This blade deals death, and absolutely nothing can avoid or resist it. Even bosses are slain in a single stroke. If that sounds game breaking, well, it is, but it's balanced out by its extreme rarity. You have to be really lucky for him to use this move.
With that out of the way, we are ready to resume Yuna's pilgrimage, but the next step on the path won't be easy...

Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster Part 4 - Chapter 5, Ending and Overall Impressions
Tumblr media
I found it so funny when the commsphere Shinra dumped into the hole to the Farplane was fixed by Gippal and he asked Nooj what he’s gonna do about Leblanc since they’re risking their lives there to save Baralai from Shuyin and Vegnagun, and right when Nooj answers, the connection dies, so Leblanc doesn’t get to hear it hahahaha. Good thing is that Leblanc is a straightforward person though, so even if she didn’t get to hear it, then she’ll just go straight to the Farplane to ask him, gotta admire her spirit and her love for him! Hilarious when Brother was talking about his love for the Yuna that keeps facing forward and doesn’t mind that his feelings will never be reciprocated and then tells Barkeep that they’re cool bachelors and then Barkeep is like “Speak for yourself, sonny” in his Hypello way hahahhaha and then a female Hypello comes along LOL. Funniest thing was if you talk to Paine, she’s like, I think I saw two Barkeeps, then she thinks she needs more sleep hahahaha! Buddy talking about how he and Brother formed the Gullwings when they went all the way north to some ice place to find the Celsius (airship) and ended up being guided by a gull and also surviving by eating a gull too LOLL, I guess the gull sacrificed itself for a good cause, because without it, they wouldn’t have formed the Gullwings and then Yuna wouldn’t have joined and saved the world once again haha.
Visiting Zanarkand first since there was apparently a bug in the original game where you might not get the episode complete if you came here last, that would suck! Anyway, not surprised Maechen was an unsent considering him always popping up anywhere he wanted and knowing so many things, I wonder how it feels to live for 1000 years just to tell stories of the past to people and experience so many things. It’s crazy to think how important that handshake was in the beginning of the game, since he was actually the one in that sphere recording who was so happy to have been able to shake Lenne’s hand 1000 years ago! And now that he shook Yuna’s hand, it reminded him of the fact that he’s actually already dead. Glad to know he had a happy long life.
(I don’t know what I did wrong but I don’t think I’m getting 100% and at this point in time, I honestly don’t care anymore because I’ve spent more time being frustrated than playing this game so whatever lol) I still don’t like Beclem btw, so I don’t really care that he’s leaving Besaid lol, the only thing I agree with is that they really do need to work the Besaid Aurochs to the bone! They’re pretty bad lmao. Wakka thinking carefully about what he should name his son was nice, a name is very important, so I think taking your time is good, I’m glad Lulu really wanted him to be the one to name him. I’m surprised Wakka doesn’t think Lulu relies on him at all, like dude! She’s ready to have a baby with you, I doubt she’d do that if she didn’t think you were reliable at all! Have more confidence in yourself, Wakka! I guess everyone is getting back together, lol at Dona having practised her lines so many times for trying to get Barthello back to live with her, since he’s been at Kilika temple all this time as a New Yevon supporter. Your beliefs are important, but so is your partner, so it’s good that everyone has stopped fighting and people can come together again regardless of their beliefs, it’s about time they stopped fighting and whining lol.
Lolll at Rikku being the culprit for the hover crash at Mi'ihen highroad hahahaha! She legit didn’t even notice that the hover crashed because it was trying to dodge her and when she jumped down a ledge, she fell on a machina and that’s why it went crazy lol. She caused so much trouble on the highroad without even realising lolll. Guess it’s good that Rin only made her clean all the rubbish on the road haha. Luca…was really just Yuna walking around reminiscing the memories of spending time with Tidus here, which is nostalgic and nice. Who doesn’t miss Tidus? XD It was kinda cool that we got to fight Lucil, always thought she was pretty cool, I liked her speech and think that she’s a very strong and worthy leader. She knows how to unite and lead people. Even without Nooj, you can tell that the Youth League will be fine with her there.
That Djose machine experiment was very interesting, don’t wanna dig to repair and make it stronger though😢 Lmao at Tobli’s success now when he was in so much debt before, I guess Yuna’s influence can just make everything go well lol. Having Tromell lead the Guado is the best choice. Considering all that the Guado had done and all the reflection they’ve gone through most of the game, with the Ronsos looking forward instead of back as well, it’s for the best that we let go of the past and hope to improve the future instead. I feel like Cid had a very crappy role in this game lol, I liked him in FFX so I’m kinda disappointed that his character is rather…questionable now with the things he did to Zanarkand and not really playing a role to redeem all that. Seeing O'aka and Wantz bond again and take care of the Macalania agency together was heartwarming though, nice to see that these brothers are still doing well and are hopeful for the future!
After finding all the cactuars (lmao at the tenth one being with the “wrong crowd” aka the rogue cactuars that don’t want to fulfill their duties) and lolll, never thought I’d see a Jumbo Cactuar! Easy fight but nice to see it lol. If only it had a moustache hahaha. That boss you have to kill afterwards though, he had so much life! Luckily it was a simple fight and I earned so much AP from it lol. Legit just used two Dark Knights using the darkness skill alongside Yuna Curaga-ing haha, all I did was hold the ‘x’ button to win XD Good to see everyone respect Kimahri again and understand that he’s wise and caring. It’s nice to see that Yuna doesn’t need Kimahri to protect her anymore, so he can now protect his tribe, and although things were a bit rocky, it all worked out! Now on to some annoying sidequests! Accessing the secret chocobo ranch dungeon was easily the most tiring and annoying thing ever. It was SO time consuming. I spent so long looking and capturing chocobos in the Thunder Plains to get 4 that had a max level of 5 zzzz. Then, I had to level them and fight 7 random battles in between until they were all level 5 AND THEN the dungeon itself was annoying because it doesn’t have a map omg. I just googled a map because I couldn’t take it lol. The only good thing about it was getting the AP egg so now one of my characters can earn triple the AP yay! Otherwise, legit so tired lol. Especially since I did the Mi'ihen dungeon as well with all the wall bombing to proceed zzz.
Anyway, things just get more tedious. Was digging at the Central Expanse for the Desert key and to upgrade the machine experiment in Djose and gg, could not find the key at all so I gave up lol. I tried to fight the machine without being properly prepared using my crappy dresspheres and I died hahahaah. I learnt my lesson XD Needed the last two crimson spheres so went to the Via Infinito and dang am I getting motion sickness with all that jumping. My head hurts so much lol. Think I need to level and use my mascot dresspheres though, the elder drake kills me hahaha. Btw, the mascot dresspheres are so cute lmao, Yuna as a moogle, Rikku as a Cait Sith and Paine as a Tonberry is hilarious to look at, I’m going to enjoy using them in battle hahaha. Really cute to see Paine opening up and show her feelings and how much she appreciates Yuna and Rikku being her friends and trying their best to talk to her, it was a funny but nice scene. I never knew/remembered that when Yuna uses the warrior dressphere, her sword is the Brotherhood! That’s so sweet to see!
Kinda surprised that when you go to the Den of Woe, they figure out that Shuyin was the one controlling Nooj and that’s why he shot Paine, Baralai and Gippal when they escaped two years ago, and that now Shuyin is in Baralai’s body. Thought they established that already and that the den made people crazy because of his extreme depression and feelings of having to relive Lenne’s death with the pyreflies since they practically replay strong memories. Anyway, that’s done and dusted so time to finish levelling and go through the Via Infinito? XD Annnnd I gave up on the Via Infinito lol! Got to like level 60 (I think) but I cbb with the way stats work in this game and how you can’t max it etc, so you’re reliant on garment grids, switching dresspheres to get the most benefits such as going past 9999 HP and damage and the accessories, and the tower itself was tedious (and motion sickness inducing LOL, why am I weak) and you don’t even get much out of it (after defeating Penance in FFX and feeling no sense of accomplishment, it’s just so not worth my time lol), so yeah I can’t be bothered😬 Aaaand I spent so much time getting most dresspheres to 100%, I’m tired😖 And lol my characters are like level 99 or close to there because I was so tired of levelling myself….so I kinda cheated and stuck a rubber band on the analog stick to move it to the left and another rubber band with a battery on it to stay on the x button and voila! DIY levelling machine lmao. I just threw Yuna at the Thunder Plains and made someone constantly heal and the rest use skills to max the (annoying) Mascot dresspheres and others lol, yay.
Anyway, Vegnagun! Yes, Leblanc never was the type to just wait there quietly for Nooj to come back haha. And yes, Vegnagun is a machina created by humans so technically, it should be possible to be destroyed without it killing everyone in Spira. But anyway, the best thing was Yuna’s speech to everyone when Nooj suggested to sacrifice himself to kill Vegnagun and Shuyin. I was touched with her words tbh, because she’s right, it was so difficult to see all the fayth die in FFX because they had “no choice” and that they had to “accept” that this is what they had to do, and Yuna did accept it and do it, but in the end, she’s only left with regret, pain and the loss of people that should be beside her that aren’t. They need to stop sacrificing people in order to win, because it’s not really a win when you lose so many before it. And although it’s cheesy to have everyone combine their powers to take down each part of Vegnagun, it’s very sweet too because it feels like the spirit of the game, and it feels like we should get to finally have a happy ending. So weird to see Shuyin use all of Tidus’ skills but just with another name lmao. And as expected, Lenne comes out of the dressphere (pretty much) and so Shuyin finally gets to talk to her properly and fade together with her and rest in peace😊
And omggg the fayth appeared and asked Yuna at the flower field/farplane whether she really wants to see Tidus again! Guess I got 100% completion??? (Edit: I got 99% zzzz) I’m happy that New Yevon (Baralai), Youth League (Nooj) and the Machine Faction (Gippal) can finally unite together and understand that they’re all a part of Spira and really don’t need to fight, although I do think that the fighting between them was rather awkward? They had differing perspectives but they resulted in physical fighting and kinda like war so prematurely without really thinking about it, you really can’t blame Shuyin for being pissed that Spira is still like how it was 1000 years ago lol. Anyway, everyone’s happy now so yay. Yuna really did have another long journey in this game to save the world, so she really should and deserves to go back home to Besaid. Always great to see Yuna and Tidus get to reunite at Besaid just like how he first came about, and to reunite with everyone at Besaid too! That’s where they can both truly call home so yeah that was nice. I YouTubed the perfect ending scenes and yeah, I prefer the normal more, I don’t think it was necessary lol.
Overall, I still have mixed feelings over FFX-2. On one hand, it was nice to see Spira after the Calm and the problems that come with that alongside a new Yuna that has lost the chains of responsibility with the happy Rikku and stoic Paine that has a background that unfolds alongside the plot of this game, and just see them go on pretty carefree adventures and have fun. On the other hand, I wasn’t really a fan of the garment grids or the dresspheres but it was still okay, but I guess it just felt like since it’s supposed to be more of a fan service game, I should have enjoyed it more? But instead I thought it was kinda boring? And the 100% completion attempt (that failed) killed me lol. I guess the story wasn’t very appealing, it’s good that it was light hearted and it was fun to follow the girls around and see their perspective of things, but I guess it lacked the fun and adventure that a lot of games have, instead it was kinda just like a short story about nothing that wanted to talk about something (saving the world again) when the only thing that really resonated with me was the last bit with Yuna when she said she had enough of people sacrificing themselves for peace. Basically, all right game but not very satisfying if you wanted something more from FFX (until you see Tidus at the end I guess) and not very interesting as a standalone imo.

Lenne was a popular songstress and summoner from the ancient Zanarkand in Final Fantasy X-2. She was Shuyin's lover.
Lenne was 19 years old when she perished 1000 years ago. Lenne has long, straight brown hair, brown eyes and violet lipstick. She wears a blue top with white ruffles on the front and extended down to her knee on the left side. She wears a short, black lace skirt with a blue belt, and knee-high brown boots. She has black ribbons on her upper arms, blue glovelets held on by black straps and a pair of dangling beaded earrings. This outfit is worn by Yuna in the Songstress dressphere.
Not much is known about Lenne's personality, but it can be presumed she was a caring and loving person as she didn't want to see such grief and death across Spira. Lenne loved Shuyin and her strong feelings for him allowed her memories to be preserved in the form of a sphere. Being a summoner, she possessed some talent and determination for battle, as well as a desire to fight for her people. She was also talented in singing and songwriting.
Tumblr media
Lenne was a summoner and a treasured songstress in ancient Zanarkand. During the Machina War, Lenne was expected to fight in the front lines. Her lover, Shuyin, set out to steal Bevelle's weapon of mass destruction, Vegnagun, to stop the war and save her, but Lenne went after him. Final Fantasy X-2: International + Last Mission Ultimania details that a Zanarkandian spy brought news to Lenne of Shuyin having been sighted, and she intuited that he planned to enter Bevelle. She caught up with him in Vegnagun's chamber, but the couple was gunned down by the Bevelle forces. Lenne told Shuyin she loved him during her final breath, but he never heard her. Shuyin's soul lived on and grew bitter and hateful for everything that had been taken away from him.
Lenne's memories and feelings present in the pyreflies condensed into a sphere, which Kimahri Ronso finds on Mt. Gagazet a thousand years later. The Gullwings use it as a dressphere, not knowing its true nature as the host of Lenne's spirit. Yuna notices a subtle change in her emotions while wearing the dressphere, and appears able to connect to Lenne's lingering memories the way no one else seen wearing the dressphere can. The only other person to notice the link is Maechen, who, when shaking Yuna's hand, appears to recognize Lenne in Yuna's gestures.
While wearing the dressphere Yuna dreams of meeting with Tidus in Bevelle Underground and being shot by Bevelle guards. When Yuna falls through the hole in the Djose Temple's Chamber of the Fayth to the Farplane, she meets Shuyin's spirit who mistakes her as Lenne due to Yuna wearing Lenne's dressphere. During the encounter, Yuna feels a surge of alien emotions. Lenne's memories manifest as the song "1000 Words" Yuna performs during her concert on the Thunder Plains. During the concert the Songstress dressphere reacts with Shinra's sphere display, broadcasting Lenne's final memories for the crowd. Lenne's spirit is manifested and sings alongside Yuna, (in the original Japanese release Yuna briefly turns into Lenne instead) and the party discovers Lenne's spirit lies dormant inside Yuna's dressphere.
Tumblr media
As the party ventures into the Farplane to stop Shuyin, they try to trick him by having Yuna wear Lenne's dressphere and impersonate as her. Shuyin sees through the guise and goes berserk. After the party defeats Shuyin in battle Lenne awakens and steps out of Yuna's dressphere to soothe Shuyin. She tells him to rest and thanks Yuna as they both fade away.

This scene is one of X-2's gems if not for this part alone. It's pretty frustrating that no one really asked about Tidus before or even after this exchange. I absolutely love knowing that there are apparently rumors going around about Tidus and his history. Surely he's at Legendary Guardian status by now, and Maechen confirming that Tidus became the gossip of the town is a real treat. That's just one reason why I love this scene. I love the blitzball tournament reference and how he shares what people thought of Tidus at that time; I love that he mentions speaking to him on 'a number of occasions'; I love the mention of 'otherworld'. Maechen is such a great character who I think embodies the lore in X and X-2. Ugh, FFX-2 is so great, you guys. Chapter 5 is filled with so much emotion and X references. This game is so slept on tbh.

Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster Part 1 - Chapter 1 & 2 on YRP’s Adventures
Tumblr media
I still think that for all the dress spheres, only the main ones (including the songstress) had effort put into it because I remember the rest being pretty ugly lmao. . Anyway! Always happy to see Rikku. Not too fond of her costume since she’s barely wearing anything LOL, but I guess it suits her despite that. Leblanc the thief dancing in the form of Yuna is still weird lol, I know she took her garment grid but does that make her take on her face etc too?? Lol, I never understood that. I always find it so funny to go touch the crouched Yuna wearing the moogle costume to heal your HP/MP hahaha. I remember everything about the introduction so not much to say besides, I wonder when Yuna learnt to use a gun? Still think Yuna’s Gunner costume is like female Tidus, but I guess since the focus of FFX-2 is her seeing a sphere of Shuyin thinking it’s Tidus so she goes around looking for similar spheres to see if she can somehow find him again, it’s a very fitting costume haha. Brother learning their language to communicate better with Yuna is so cute. Anyway, let’s see if I enjoy FFX-2! I don’t remember much about it but I remember thinking it was okay…hahaha.
I still remember the running after and beating Leblanc to the top of the Mt Gagazet ruin in a limited amount of time! I remember thinking it was so annoying because I was so lost the first time I did it, and the timer being annoying didn’t help hahaha. Think I missed one item but whatever, I got there with like plenty of time to spare XD The most memorable optional visit is definitely the Luca one, I think it’s so funny to see Yuna’s perspective of the beginning, since she had to hide in a moogle costume whilst Rikku and Paine dealt with Leblanc the thief haha. Yuna’s so expressive in her moogle costume that it was pretty funny. Dona and Barthello in Luca are as meh as usual, never been fond of Dona haha. Running through Mi'ihen highroad was dangg tiring though, so many battles loll, the encounter rate is high. Oh well, I guess I learn my skills that way.
I remember visiting the Youth League headquarters and talking to Maechen, he gives a nice little background on what happened in these two years and how the Youth League came to be so it’s worth a listen even if it’s a bit long. Considering that Clasko enjoyed taking care of chocobos, I’m not sure why he’s playing tour guide here, at least he follows us along on the airship after? LOL when he asks if he can come along and the no option is “sorry loser”, so mean hahahaha. I also remember the mission at the Moonflow where you have to protect the hypello from bandits! I remember failing in the past hahahaah, I guess I’m better now since I did it on the first try?
Gippal was and will always be my favourite new guy in FFX-2, Nooj and Baralai have always been pretty meh to me. Gippal is funny, cool and pretty cute. I guess alike others, I would ship him with Rikku hahaha. As the leader of the machine faction, he’s doing a lot of good for Spira as well since he’s helping to improve their lives, such as fixing the lightning rods in the Thunder Plains so that we’ll never need to dodge lightning ever again hahaha! I still remember Macalania Woods very well because I really love how ethereal it all looks and since Tidus and Yuna had their scene here, it’s hard to not think it’s a beautiful place. So really, thinking about how the Fayth not being here anymore is causing the woods to slowly die is just so saddening. It only adds to the sadness to see the once proud Guado be left scattered everywhere, hiding in Macalania and other places after not being able to fend off the Ronsos that came for revenge. Considering how much the Guado did in support for Seymour, it’s difficult to not hate them, nevertheless it’s still sad though.
The Calm Lands seem even more vast now, so many mini games but yeah omg, that publicity campaign for one of the companies there, I remember that! I remember thinking it was so annoying lol. Had to track my footsteps and go back to all the places I went to, just to talk to all these people to get those publicity points zzzz. Argent it is btw! Seeing Kimahri as elder is really nice, too bad his job is difficult so it’s hard to get the approval of everyone there, but he’s trying so I’m happy. Wakka and Lulu expecting a baby is all I remember about Besaid haha. It was bad of Yuna to leave without telling anyone but I think it was the right choice, it was about time Yuna got the freedom she could never have and explore the world she saved. I remember silly Wakka hoping to find a sphere of his parents so that he could see how he should act as a father, but really, he just needs to act how he thinks he should and learn from there, no one knows how to be a parent from the start.
Lol, Yuna and them were so happy to steal that awesome sphere from both New Yevon and the Youth League and then felt bad so decided to return it to one of them? Okay lol. I’d definitely choose to give it back to the Youth League, so thankfully you have to choose them to get the 100% completion. I mean, New Yevon just continues to hide things all the time, like all these spheres etc, how do they want people to trust them? Well, Beclem (the guy that lets you play gunners gauntlet) is such an ass, no respect for the person that brought about the Eternal Calm, actually, he’s got no basic respect for even her as a person, zzzz. Otherwise, gunners gauntlet is a pretty fun game, I’m not bothered to get the points but it’s cool to shoot fiends with different bullets haha. Shelinda being a reporter now is very fascinating… Considering that she’s left the temples because she didn’t want to be ordered around like a slave anymore, why does she still wear her temple garments? Where’s her makeover lol. Seeing Calli (the girl that was excited for the Calm in FFX on the Mi'ihen highroad) was nice, just because it really shows that time has passed and people had the room to grow up doing what they want. Not sure if chocobo rights are best argued by saying we should get to ride them throughout the highroad since I feel like they should roam free but okay lol. At least the chocobo catching game was a bit fun, seeing it surrender was so cute but saddening lol.
If Yuna really joined the Youth League and got a Yunie Squad, that would be so funny loll. But really, as a high summoner and the person who brought the Calm, I’d agree that she should stay as neutral as possible but side more with the Youth League just because they really do have Spira’s best interests at heart. Not sure what Tobli’s concert is for but if I get the profits, sure thing! Easy way of earning 12,500 gil, yay! The data seller at Guadosalam is cool too! Got 70,000 gil for selling the data to the right person! Could have kept restarting to hopefully get the 100,000 gil but I was too lazy hahaha. As for the Thunder Plains mini games with calibrating the towers though? I hated that, I remember the pain so well lmao. I could only do 6 towers and gave up lolol. Could probably do 7 but if I can’t do all 10 to get the ribbon, why bother? Hahaha, sorry my reaction speed and hand eye coordination just isn’t that great lol. I also want to preserve my sanity. We even got Tobli the musicians at Macalania! Really, Tobli, what are you even doing lmao. Still sad to see them talk about how Macalania Woods is nearing its end since the Fayth are gone… Seriously though, everyone needs help lol, even Clasko deciding to open up a chocobo branch needs YRP to clean out the monster arena and catch chocobos for him lmao. I really wonder what Clasko really did as a soldier if he can’t even clean up some fiends though…🤔 Oh well, whatever, as long as he’s happy lol.
Alike Yuna, seeing Zanarkand as a tourist spot never sat well with me, so if pairing up monkeys can make them multiply and cause a monkey problem that will prevent people from coming, I guess it’s good? Lol, nah, I don’t like the idea of Zanarkand filled with monkeys either lmao, can’t they just label it as a historical site to be preserved? Sigh. Lmao at the way Yuna holds the monkey when you’re pairing them up though, it’s like the Lion King🤣🤣 Seeing that YRP quite blatantly stole the Leblanc syndicate uniforms (and spheres!) at every encounter, you’d think Ormi and Logos would strengthen their security on the premises but nope, YRP easily infiltrates! Also, kinda disappointed in Yuna dipping in the hot spring on Ronso sacred grounds, Kimahri trusted her to understand that so I didn’t think she’d be like the Leblanc goons and do such a thing as well, so yeah… Anyway, Leblanc is so smitten with Nooj, I wonder if he likes her at all? Are they together? That massage game was weird though lolll, I swear FFX-2 has the weirdest mini games to complete. How would I know which part Leblanc wants me to massage?!? Yes, I kept cracking her bones LOL. Anyway, just wanted to say that I’m glad I don’t write walkthroughs because I’ve been steamrolling through these boss battles so I don’t even know what they really do lmao. Paine as a Festivalist, Rikku as a Psychic and Yuna as a Songstress is the team I’ve been levelling and it easily deals with everything besides any instant kill moves lol.
Hmmm so there’s some sort of machina at the bottom of Bevelle called Vegnagun that could destroy all of Spira… Wouldn’t it suck if Yuna brought the Eternal Calm but then they all get killed by this machine? Lol. At least Nooj is aware and hopes to disassemble it before anything happens, guess Gippal might give him a hand? Not sure what Baralai’s objectives are right now though~ I see, so Baralai thinks that Vegnagun is too dangerous and shouldn’t be touched, so he’s stopping everyone from approaching, which is fair enough, what if it activates because you come close or whatever, very risky. Otherwise, underground Bevelle was pretty annoying with all the jumping, operating machines in different ways to get chests, kinda confusing but I guess it’s probably worth it? Lol, always good to get a ribbon! Anyway, fighting Dark Bahamut was kinda saddening, not the way we wanted Yuna to see aeons again, since it wanted to kill them etc. I wonder what happened to Vegnagun and Nooj and Baralai? Where did they all go?

Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster Part 2 - Chapter 3 & mashing the x button at the Farplane (lol)
Tumblr media
Fiends swarming out of the temple? Leave it to the friendly neighbourhood Gullwings? Lolll, any reason for Yuna to save the people she cares about I guess haha. Sphere break tournament!! Lol at Rin being such a big shot now with how rich he is to sponsor the tournament and have girls all around him lol. I honestly didn’t get how I was supposed to be getting the quota in Sphere Break until I googled that I needed those echo combos lmao, no wonder why I was losing, I kept thinking the more coins I used, the faster I’d meet the quota hahahahah! I’m sorry I’m a silly idiot. Anywho, challenged the guy walking around the square, the old man on the bridge and then challenged the lady with the dog to get a garment grid, so I “purposely” lost to her so I could save before facing the champion~ Lmao, and yes, I lost to Shinra many times because I didn’t understand the game, but after that, it was an easy win! That’s right, that’s what happens when you get cocky Shinra!
Running through Mi'ihen highroad cleaning up the machina that’s gone berserk is bad, I remember it, luckily no one got hurt though. Doesn’t mean we should go back to riding chocobos though! Let them roam in the wild! Pretty sad that I had to do this twice because the first time I didn’t do the jumping down the ledge with Rikku that you should see at the north part of the newroad aiyaa. Honestly though, I love Gippal. Not only do I find it so cute how he loves to tease Rikku, especially since it seems like he’s the only one that Rikku has no words to tease back hahaha, but I also find it so refreshing and cool how he told the Youth League guys to deal with the fiend problem themselves and stop relying on Yuna so much. When he told Yuna that it was already enough that she’s defeated Sin and that she should leave it to everyone else that has been protected by her to protect Spira now, I was so touched. I can see why little me loved Gippal when I first played this game. He’s a great guy, all my respect goes to him! Who cares about Baralai or Nooj when Gippal is the one? XD Gippal is one who acts by his words and I love that. He’s silly but serious, the perfect balance, you can see why so many people look up to him as their leader!
Lmao at Tobli wanting to hold a concert with Yuna as the main first to attract more people since his first didn’t turn out well, I guess if Yuna is so into dancing and singing now, why not lol. Although Yuna dancing will always remind me of her sending the dead lmao. Seeing Leblanc so depressed because Nooj has disappeared is very unlike her, at least go try finding him, you’re a sphere hunter, lady! Hmm, another sphere with Shuyin and then Maechen randomly appearing in Leblanc’s headquarters to talk about how he’s probably a guy back in the Machina war where Zanarkand and the others fought 1000 years ago. I guess since Tidus is a dream of the fayth, it’s not too crazy to think that they would have dreamt of Shuyin in another form and that’s why Tidus and Shuyin look so similar? Seeing Cid feel so bad about turning Zanarkand into a tourist spot and sincerely apologising to Yuna was nice, at least he’s realised what he’d done, now he just needs to fix it! Rikku was right though, in a sense, it’s like turning the ruins of Home (where the Al Bhed all used to live) into a tourist spot. It felt so terrible to see the Al Bhed debt collectors that were staking out at the Macalania agency waiting for O'aka to come back killed by the out of control fiends. It was so horrible to see the first casualties. They actually bothered protecting the agency for O'aka… Hopefully their deaths won’t be for nought and O'aka will really bring this place alive again. The woods may be dying and the temple may have sunk underwater but I’m sure you can somehow do it O'aka!!
Lmao at the existence of a Cactuar Nation and Benzo translating cactuar language. Funniest thing was the second cactuar that was sunbathing in Besaid LOL, it was literally sitting there hahahaha, so cute. Not sure if these little guys went out to train or to play, but since they’re the ten gatekeepers that need to come back and protect the nation, I’ll just assume they’re really training. I mean, those cactuar mini games are so hard and annoying lol. HAHAHA, my bad, the cactuar brothers riding a chocobo in the Calm Lands is so cute and funny looking hahahaha, they’re even holding reins LOLL. Never thought they’d even try to make the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth into a tourist destination and game as well, can’t blame Yuna for being mad, it’s just disgusting and dangerous. At least they’ve learnt their lesson now that there were fiends there. The Ronso looking for revenge on the Guado is a saddening but understandable thing. At least, they believe in the voice of the mountain and listened to it and Yuna and decided to not. Revenge will bring nothing. Yuna didn’t fight to bring this Eternal Calm for more blood to be shed.
I can’t believe Beclem really wanted to burn the temple down to kill all the fiends! I guess he’s not wrong though since if Yuna wasn’t here, it would have been difficult for them to defeat Dark Valefor themselves. But still, this was the place Yuna became a summoner, where she met Tidus, if it’s not needed, who really wants to burn all those memories away. I mean, me just walking through it gives me nostalgia, let alone Yuna and them haha. Vegnagun ran off by itself because when it detects any form of hostility, it awakens and runs? And Nooj hated it deep down even though he wanted to use it, so it ran off… But did Nooj hate it or did the one that’s controlling him hate it? 2 years ago, the three of them and Paine were a part of the Crimson Squad (to be) and were shot by the Nooj that was controlled and I guess that’s why Baralai could never see him in the same light after that and they all went their separate ways. They all cherish each other as friends though and I guess that’s why no matter what they did, they were all bound to meet again. Ah, so Shuyin was the one controlling Nooj and now Baralai. He’s mad that Spira is still fighting over useless things 1000 years later and wants to end everything with Vegnagun and find Lenne again. It was quite uncomfortable seeing him hug Yuna in her songstress form (since the songstress dressphere carries Lenne’s feelings) but, it was a pretty scene. I like how great Gippal’s, Baralai’s and Nooj’s friendship is that they would risk their lives to get Baralai back.
Still annoyed that to get 100%, you have to mash the x button and hear four whistles! It’s like dude, I’m not sure if I really heard four!? And who would know this without a walkthrough?! Sigh. It was kinda awkward seeing Yuna and Shuyin hug lolol, but I guess Lenne’s feelings overcame her alongside her own feelings of hoping that it’s Tidus. I guess despite the craziness of Shuyin, you’ve gotta admire his persistence on protecting the woman he loves and doing everything he can to save her and then once she was dead, it only made him hate Spira for making it impossible for them to live happily. On to chapter 4~ I hope all the commspheres are set in every place I went to, because if it isn’t, I’ll dieee.
