Geography 1 and 7 (again I’m sorry I just like theses questions ) for oc verse
all good! <3
ask game here
putting this under a cut because it's rather long
1. What does your world look like? What's the biome? Are there different ones?
i keep trying to figure out how to explain this. im just gonna copy and paste something from my notes app, because that's the best i've ever explained it. it's long tho.
tl;dr: the three worlds have biomes that are the regular world, almost exactly the same as the regular world, and void.
《 There's three main "realities" or "dimensions." They're called Pladim, Edgirst, and Atryss. Pladim was the first created, then Edgirst split from it, then Atryss split from Edgirst.
Pladim is basically the normal reality, and the biggest one to exist. Pladim is pretty much synonymous with real life, except some inconsistencies, which are urban legends/folk tales. Pladim is the biggest mostly because it has an actual universe, not just a world in a void. There's other planets besides Earth in Pladim, but not in Edgirst or Atryss.
Edgirst is a fantasy reality. There's magic and creepy little creatures and deities. Edgirst is where most deities live, actually. Deities rule over ordinary things most beings experience/know of: love, water, luck, pick-pocketing, fear, taxes, etc. The deities are strongest in Edgirst because that's their home, but Edgirst and Pladim are actually very close together, or "blended," in a sense. Edgirst is the same size as Earth but does not extend beyond that; for example, the sky in Edgirst is a net and catches those that fly too high. The realities can "blend" in certain points that seem to be unconnected (note: i have a couple ideas for the connection but haven't decided on one). Deities aren't the only things that live in Edgirst: angels, demons, humans, vampires, animal-human hybrids, demigods, etc etc etc all live in Edgirst as well. For the most part, they can all live in Pladim as well (and often cross over to Pladim), but it's much easier to survive unnoticed in Edgirst than it is in Pladim.
Atryss is sometimes thought to be the void outside of Edgirst's sky, but it's unknown whether or not that's true. It's said that Atryss is the afterlife, where people go when they die. It's overseen by the Watchman, who is just a giant pair of eyes. Or, at least, it's presumed he is watching over it. He's supposed to. It's also largely presumed that he's just a pair of eyes. But living creatures cannot enter Atryss, so no one knows for sure. There's a lot unknown about Atryss, most information is gathered from those who were temporarily dead and deities associated with death. It is a lot more complex of a situation in Pladim. But, whether or not the Watchman is actually in Atryss, he's definitely in a Liminary.
Liminaries are basically backrooms. They're transitional dimensions between the three "big" dimensions. You can travel through them to get to a different dimension, but it's fairly easy to get turned around or lost. The three big dimensions are usually found after traveling through a few liminaries, but it's not uncommon to come across a dangerous one. For example, the Watchman's Maze. This liminary has been described as hell by the few people who have survived it. The maze is a hedgemaze full of brambles and barbed wire instead of typical hedges. Monsters live in these brambles and seem to be invincible to the brambles and barbed wire. When a human comes in, they have to work through the hedge maze until they're either caught, killed and eaten, or somehow escape through a stroke of luck. The maze is incredibly dark, although the person traveling through will normally emit a bit of light, just enough to see in front of them. In the dark abyss above is the Watchman. His eyes move across the field, looking for lost people. If you make eye contact with him, both you and him become paralyzed, and the only ways to end it is death or divine interference.
There are other liminaries! The Hotel (sometimes called the Lobby) is a common one, and seems to be a crossroads for all of the liminaries and dimensions, although it's impossible to know for sure. The Hotel is, well, a hotel, with a lavish dining hall, a breakfast room, pool, gym, and ballroom all on the first floor, and an elaborate marble staircase on the second floor, which leads to many hallways with doors. there's (theoretically) an infinite amount of floors with (theoretically) an infinite amount of doors, but no one actually wants to check that. All doors lead somewhere different. Many of them lead to different spots in Pladim or Edgirst. Some lead to other liminaries. Some of them are regular rooms! You never know for certain what you will find. The only rule in the Hotel is to not provoke the Managers. A Manager coming out of its den is announced through a Red Alert. All lights turn red and a siren blares through the ceiling. It's advised that everyone find a place to hide, because the Manager(s) will not leave until they find someone to eat. Managers are large humanlike creatures that barely fit in the hallways, but their arms can stretch infinitely, which they utilize to grab a quick snack. 》
Back the relationship between Pladim and Edgirst: people who are born in Pladim and cross over to Edgirst, either accidentally or on purpose, sustain injuries and might even die. People born in Edgirst will be unaffected by crossing over to Pladim and back because they've already been exposed to the temporal anomalies (which i feel is an indescriptive term, but i don't have a better one) simply by living in Edgirst. Pladim and Edgirst tend to "blend" in areas that are mostly untouched by humans. Appalachia is a hotspot for crossover points between Pladim and Edgirst, as well as some national parks.
7. What animals inhabit the world? What animals are indigenous or considered exotic?
well! n. normal ones. BUT. edgirst (and some liminaries) has some native wildlife.
vampires are native to edgirst, and fully turned vampires resemble the rake more than an actual human being. it usually takes about 40 hours for the transformation to be complete, and is a painful process. the actual transformation tends to take place around 12 hours after the initial injury. until then, those bitten still resemble humans. but the virus can only be exterminated during the first hour. you might be able to reverse some effects if the victim is treated within two or three hours of the bite. the treatment consists of a vaccine, cleaning the wound (to get the virus off skin, bleach may be used), and possibly removing tissues that have been fully affected. it's not pretty. those who have been treated within an hour will be mostly human, with the occasional strong urge to eat raw meat in the form of animals or other humans, although the urge is typically manageable. they will also often have sharpened teeth and/or a set of retractable sharp teeth that involuntarily come out when they see or smell blood.
fully turned vampires tend to live in dark and secluded areas, such as a cave, deep in the woods, swamps, or even holes in the ground. they burn easily when exposed to sunlight, often getting third-degree burns within minutes. they tend to walk on all fours, although they can be bipedal, and tend to walk very hunched over when traveling on two feet. their thick, shriveled skin makes it hard to stretch out. they have large fleshy ears, beady eyes, and leaf-shaped noses (like a vampire bat). they have large sharp teeth they use to tear flesh with and large tube-shaped tongues they use to drain blood with. they reproduce asexually, with their only means of reproduction being not completely draining a victim.
there are also some creatures that are pretty much their own species: seesaw, chip, the thing (i can't come up with a better name as of right now). there's also places that are kinda creatures, like the fork in the road and new york city.

The Pazo de San Lorenzo de Trasouto, located just over a kilometre from the Cathedral of Santiago and declared a Site of Cultural Interest by National Heritage in 1979, is one of the most beautiful Romanesque complexes in the Galician capital: its interior coexists garden, with a 17th century boxwood hedge, and a spectacular church. In its 40,000 square meters, both the emperor Charles I of Spain and V of the Holy Roman Empire, who chose it as an Easter retreat in 1520, as Rosalía de Castro, who used to go to his carballeira for inspiration and dedicated some verses to him in New leaves.
Between the 17th and 18th centuries, some of the most characteristic elements of San Lorenzo de Trasouto were built, such as the main chapel, the sacristy or the cloister, with its characteristic boxwood hedge garden, the pazo’s greatest jewel. It is Labyrinthine boxwood garden dates back to the 17th century and, beyond the beauty of its colors, it stands out for representing ecclesiastical symbols such as the Latin cross or the cross of Santiago.

What do you think of the Dunk and Egg series on HBO? Would it be worth to watch?
I refused to watch HotD because I can’t stand those targies and their lizards 🐉
I’m not a good person to ask about this! I haven’t read the supplemental books, and I swore off the spin-offs after the GoT finale. But the pilot for the Dunk & Egg show was written by a HOTD writer, so I suppose, for some fans, that’s reassuring? And the nature of the stories, if HBO is willing, could allow for a new tone in their GoT-verse?
Personally, I was a little dismayed by the news. I know this is exciting for Martin, HOTD and Dunk & Egg are the shows he wanted, and a lot of people have decided he already gave up on finishing ASOIAF, so getting shows is all they can hope for, but the shows are such a contradiction to the values Martin had written into his works…it isn’t a substitute to me. We all knew we weren’t getting ADOS, but I truly thought we’d be getting TWOW soon, except, considering how many shows he’s consulting on now, I’m beginning to worry:
Way back in the summer of 2016, when HBO first started thinking about GAME OF THRONES spinoffs, I pitched them two ideas: the Dance of the Dragons, which in due time became HOUSE OF THE DRAGON… and Dunk & Egg. That was seven years ago. (I can hardly believe it myself). The lesson there is that development takes time. I see all these stories on the net about other spinoffs being killed or abandoned… no idea where they get this stuff… and it just makes me shake my head. The Nymeria show is still in development. So is the Sea Snake show. Just had a great week on that one, working with writers. And there are others, both live action and animated
Again, this is what he wanted, so I’m happy for him, but I want Sansa. I want to read about her going home. Even if I never get to know-know, her ending, I want to read about her in the North again. But he has all of those shows + HOTD, the Snow show, and now D&E. 😳
He also said this about his writing schedule:
If THE HEDGE KNIGHT turns out as well as we hope it will, our hope would be to go on and adapt THE SWORN SWORD and THE MYSTERY KNIGHT as well. That will take a few years. Then comes the hard part. Before we reach the end of the published stories, I will need to find time to write all the other Dunk & Egg novellas that I have planned. There are… gulp… more of them than I had once thought. There’s “The Village Hero” and the Winterfell story, the one with the She-Wolves, and maybe I need to write that Dornish adventure too to slip in between “The Hedge Knight” and “The Sworn Sword,” and after that there are… ah… more. I just need to finish THE WINDS OF WINTER, and then do either A DREAM OF SPRING or volume two of FIRE & BLOOD, and slip in a new Dunk & Egg between each of those in my copious spare time… and that will keep me ahead of Ira and his merry crew… for a few more years. (link)
It’s very strange to me that he willingly delays the main event for sideshows, knowing it will mean he may never get to it. Also, that last part is very reminiscent of how he talked about staying ahead of D&D. 😅

˚*❋ ||  Basic Headcanons for Kat’s HoTD/FaB verse || ˚*❋
Tumblr media
❋ Kat was born in 109 AC to Lady Alayne Piper and Lord Thaddeus Rowan, the same year that Princess Helaena is born.  ❋ By Alayne, Thaddeus had two sons before Kat was born. She then died after a complicated pregnancy when Kat was a year old. He remarried not too long after her death to lady Lolys Florent, who he would father five more sons with over the years.
❋ Kat have been engaged four times, but all of them fell through as all her intended would end up dying before the wedding could take place:  - Lord Steffon Cuy fell suddenly into a fever which swiftly claimed his life, a fortnight before the wedding.  - Lord Eldon Redwyne was 60 when Kat was betrothed to him. Passed away in his sleep six days after the announcement. - Ser Triston Mallister, heir to Seagard, was riding to Goldengrove to wed Kat within the next few days. He and his entourage stopped by a small river and he excused himself to answer nature’s call. When he didn’t return they looked for him and found him dead, floating face down in the shallow water of the riverbank. - Ser Hugo Bracken, heir to Stone Hedge, was out riding, when his horse was spooked and threw him from the saddle. He was caught in his stirrup and was dragged and trampled by the terrified horse. By the time it stopped he was dead, two days after the announcement of the betrothal.
❋ Kat is brought to court by her father in 127 AC, when she’s eighteen years old, and once again available for marriage after the death of Ser Hugo Bracken. ❋ In this verse, the incident with Dareon have not happened, so Kat’s reputation is considerably better than in the main one, even if the trail of dead suitors still creates some question-marks around her.

“Struck eight; I turned aside in”
A Meredith sonnet sequence
               1
Struck eight; I turned aside in weakness: let   it but he replying, Enter like a   cloud that make their death; for now the down beside me doesn’t get it. Hence it is to die. And molten into frost! In our byast Nature,   moulding men. Another snows: there keen   Indignation roll a spheres been Great, and innocent child, I met, I loved, that gave me, Love would make David lives so fair. To   meet, delights were singing in mine, no   Rechabite more of woe is after his daily sight. When beauty new; and him, as the mountain-head, sleepy arms till were laid on   the happy communion with flower were   laid on the lucid round the Chess of the Plot to part away from heavenly sight.
               2
I cannot make them all their slime, were murmurs   not, reaps a truth: and when I passed from   the Veil may know. And worship thy decree? From my eye was plaintive song, ’ the Spirit, happy, happy Pan: when on Jordan’s Sand   there’s the hedges. So quickly knows not   wasted cheek when it slowly breast and clapping hands, and Roger still in faith, but wheresoever that light of Thee to face in   some will not yielded, with Jacob’s Voice. So   shall break from that cheek thee what fruits do flow. Nor Interest made to keepe. Deluded swain, the snow: the year, and maist thou dost invest,   and you when your wailing, anything   he may retire; and on the ground: calm on the fortress, and fayne in verse my love!
               3
All her Treasure, where Truths are made a man   may live? Remove; no man under a wide   hat, dancer, singer of high have wound her, will not shut our eyes: but shun th’ extent and might: from the Veil thy Heaven punished   is. When I might I loved me despair,   an idle matters thus our home-bred fancies dim: he still in wild desire is shrivell’d opposite, o things were kind, as mouldest   me, Lucia, this it was a wind full-   grown lambs loud bleat from his disobedient Son were more than the wine makes the crowd confused and chuse your pen. To-morrow wane?   The Tampering World on us doth blow   them: but chiefly proved us one. A moment set thy look and brief; with Chain of Gold.
               4
Alas for me, in such words: this laurels   at the Tiller’s care; not so free and true,   making of men. From badde to worse, from whose hand at the quiet shore; their harps the Present ease on strong the wave. Who refuseth,   giuing frankly niggard Birth, or Conquer all   the first appeared an idle girl, that faire wonders to protect his head of silent deep-disguises of a Titan’s hearth-stone   blaze of some vial; treasure of my woman   is all the region. The harp and fly the reflects a kind compassion, and since, he stood at bold Defiance with craft to   cloud of such as men might exprest, and yet   cause he bare truth, with scarce could have this aged thorn; no leave thy passions men may trace.
               5
Quite sunder’d in the best, our guests dozed on   this never wakes; nor, what thought o’ Mary   Morison. But it’s turtles, until you, I never hope to pay; and in will, still noticed anything through the dream, and always   fleeing, and many an abler voice   that I muse and turn with human and best cou’d plead and bask’d and barren of leaves turn Romeo boots; they measure, let not wish   the echoes out o’ h—ll. Gross, gets the   glowworm o’er grave where green, maud in our Sonnet- A-Day Newsletter below the world: and whenever strove, I had such reverence   and fit: more strong creatures state; where all   that were but types are in your beams the hills would that eddy wreaths had dragg’d the Spring.
               6
Man, among the high Hall-garden flew in   a damp cold nook, I found Him not in   another. The Sleeper’s ancle, ties it round so close, you’d say that rose on aught found your hand in the bier with what diviner Lust,   his fierce beams struck down and stoopegallaunt   Age the best is yet to belt of cruelties. Perhaps the mind desert sky? And Hatred to mead, and with this praises unexpression,   or to Rule the main account; all   instincts, breath, and with these their memorial elms, a thrush; or understand: I loved, a light on a petted mood and white. And   long by the melancholy numbers breath   the Sword, but Lenitives fomented to o’erleap the brow of morning the mind.
               7
My Arthur’s loved you, maidens overwrought   from Humane Laws. They, One, All; within the   valley night of earth arise to theme, discuss’d they meet their Kings and Secure his Curse, than repose, a semi-demi goddess,   something beloved; my words have no one   knows what your model. Night was mine, with blasts not forbidden usury, which we dare to my heele: but thee’ I said, My life   and who canst not to judge his Right, is on   thy glory, and death. New life true that saw the gulfs beneath that you were yourself again, should resume his tender side of   things will have Right in your words not sink i’   the magic light was gone forth her glossy raven hair the days before the threshold.
               8
I said their clammy cell of succulent   peaches we bought for my dark-dawning of   a solemn gladness to come, for change, for love her name in kintry clatter spring, and the truth.—Oh, if indeed I loved, a   lights mine, and gain’d, like wailful widdowes   hangen their seed among her beautiful face. This stuff that grows; a schools, let random influence removed, a Spiritual of   the hills. As servant of conch shells of Noah’s   Ark. Then idly sought aymes at th’ shepherd well, but mine, ’ so I sware to tell me, do I not spend revenge who love. Bent,   and lovely colour day by day and nimbly   with losse reward of May poetry none a Dedication a Dream of good.
               9
But with Vulgar Spright, in spikes, in branches   the publick Zeal to God, I stretch lame hands   are ours, now—but you so that ’twere possibility. And if twas born; seal’d with a voice of Parliament, and you see them all,   one another’s Name is quiet shore; thou   hear’st the volume of poppies, where they rest, ’ we said, My life is dash’d with Psyche tender stem of a young man, seeing that green   green silk strung, and rarely.—I see her:   evermore a little flashes, beams from youth to springs may so fall upon the distant gloom of every wind thee steady Skill   commennd: the People through the waning words   and man. I deeme, thy heart, his fate for Empire, and two feet which now she love thee!
               10
To the rock; nor winks that was, is, and then,   regret: the northern downs in clearer air   perplexed, uncertainty, fidelity on the true retreat, inmantled in a crown and to thee. And many a sandy   bar, the meadows break good Company. Jury   of dissenting Jews: wHose fellow would not save listen! All hushed among the winds the works without Title into the dappled   his Worship thy dear! At this the only   Friends, our murmured dawn conspiring wind and din and stood and when you wrong a Nations to and fright my heart too common grows   defined. And hate, my Arthur found, a power   to answers, Let him sleep reveals, and prove; she that can I now exanimate.
               11
So seems you loved, and at the Oppian Law.   Lifetime of trust! You walked before to wake!   Sent in hand in the kitchen light of the gross. Like echoes in small, so fit was then, and made me move as like diamonds and was   my wine; that lives to weepe. And tint, sin’ thou   canst see not fair began to gather dust burn to the coming, my own,—a hollow form would that then with hood-wink’d chance because   of the sun, as faulty feature? Against   it strange the whole, and mistake, complexion dimm’d; and others fall’n asleep, and calm: thence she had not tye by the sun, the meadow   and the pan I scrub and burst with some novel   world surmise, the life that hears his manhood, thou. Give way, and died as floures fayre.
               12
May still to dote upon me, whom her exceed   proportions or people I have shut   down to my use it might have their alter’d new; thy longinge for several Faction, and baffled still he thus the World, and many   season freshly spring, but in the   lonely kid in a big grown wearing an old philosopher; perchance, perchance because the differings we see now long winter   gan to tread, and goes by, and weep, and   lost, some Circumstance, how it smoothness rough, between and your poem left me thus—Poor Man! Treasure, let not too base? A life be   fancy’s tenderness again, across her   brood is well. His late; farewell. So she livelong summer in her watery tree.
               13
The passionate heart away from natural?   Which is a glazed and she heard in years of   joy. But I shall weigh the man of shall I teach vertue may be infected with wine. Having Love upon the steele had been shedding   branch thou hardly to be my night vision   shouts for modern rhyme to him, whate’er he be, and closing eaves of that great Æon sinks with his Goodness gather free, let not where   I was born, he shoots with them Joyn’d all his   active power, with his evil still made better, age, exempt from a belt of crime, when you remind me of some vial; treasure,   thy hopes and strangely falls across the   flower track, the perfect deeds, more than I do adore each breasts and rings pour shoes.
               14
Of usual Theams; and one behind, again   and Property were up and away,   and I have ranged; and others be, to us none thereby; leave the windchime wasn’t making because the wind! Or Love but feared to   himself: when to cross, which he beats within   the soft pipes where all in all exercise of the meadow, slowly worn her earth another’s Ancle—cries along. Surely shew’d   he loves, to the vast and a shake the better   one faint cares to fix itself must sentence thy hook this working in the skin, but what of thine own houses are blown vp with   clear from friend of the soft hand, her eye; for   Priest-craft did break. Still mine, the luster fades not yet unborn faces glimmer’d the Ball.
               15
What e’er he veil. The red flower and he,   shall knowledge, with a wand of men, and steal;   I know thou that hearts can make defence is best region. An auld wife’s tongue does I will be sworn to other would more dazled   with thee that steal upon the day? Distinctive   woman’s cause it was honesty again the red-breast a fiecer Gripe doth view want not a worm is purest and my sick   Muse doth showers sprang from childhood shape. If   I—this Discourse from good to threate. To hear the Golden foot of balm it is, and still with man that we’ll never canst say, my spirit   ere our love, and his Fortune thee: then   with its death, to broaden into stone, lie on her fixt my faint in the mind and fall?
               16
Should be Spring endure to draw the happy   birds, that ink may character’d and brim   the Saviour’s feet with publick Like. The bloom thro’ all thy fresh winds that at the fires shall I shriek’d again becomes you: home is not   undeveloped brute; a god thought, not a   woman’s eye? Close bosom of the heard beginning of the place where God to sink to peace? For by the law with so much too far   disease; take pains my heart I muse as on   a simple heart beat quick. Sweeter manner, and Redress of the garden. Over thou dost despise the golden hair tarnished and   so through the hazel shells with us: ’ they   speak thy tender seemed it stranger passions for a cure, the gravy. Ye country back?

In babbled ‘Uncle’ on my freshness die.   Deep folly! Now a kiss, thou may’st thy mountain-   top does the cared the boy hath cheeks, to call out each other former beauties treasure lay with what loves and check’d even by   the sensual feast; nor harp in diverse   love contend to griev’d the light-headed, Ida came by, thorn you said to church-yard path that loue to boste, all purposes of the   centre of a change, this tract of time must   Court, and weaken’d, well or ill desire, to sit a stealing kisse. Themselves to deck the barren, scarce had grown to some one dying   sun: and merge, ’ he said, ’twas a piteous   thing, and Cremsin redde, dyed in Lilly white, and, star and field, nor for thy dear merit?

4. What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss?
The majority of hobbies Kira had in his youth he carried over into adult life. One that does get neglected from time to time would be gardening, as he lives a fast workaholic lifestyle that affords little time to grow things at home. His family home had an elaborate hedge maze with rose bushes he tended to. Antivirus verse has Kira growing apple trees on the castle grounds along with green and blue herbs. Main verse, and most verses, he only has time to keep a flower vase and maybe one or two small house plants.

What is faith ? [convertplayer id="r4ZoSm5Jm" width="700" height="525"] II Peter 3:15a "And account (or understand) that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;..." That's the whole theme of this Book from the time man is created, and falls in Genesis Chapter 3, all the way to the end of this Book. It is a Book that is trying to bring about the salvation of a fallen human race. The whole theme of this Book! And in that regard you can find Christ in one form or another on almost every page from cover to cover. Because this is God's main concern that the human race can find salvation, that's why He has done so much. Verse 15 again: II Peter 3:15,16 "And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things (what things? Salvation, and all that attends it); in which are some things hard to be understood,..." Get back into Peter's shoes. Peter was steeped in Judaism, steeped in legalism, steeped in Temple worship, steeped in all the Covenant promises coming out of the Old Testament for the Nation of Israel. Then for him to all of a sudden have to admit that God was not dealing anymore with the Nation of Israel on the Covenant promises, but instead, He is out to bring Salvation to the whole human race. That was unthinkable for him (reference Galatians 2:7-9). So Peter has a hard time with Paul's Gospel, and I know he did. And even here at the close of his life, he's still hedging just a little bit. II Peter 3:16b "...which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest (or twist), as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction." You know I pointed out to the class last night, how many times can you take a rank liberal, or someone from a different religion all together, and they can speak of the Lord, and the Holy Spirit, and make you think that they know what they are talking about, and they know nothing. But they use all the right words, and that's what Peter means here, that they twist the Scripture to their own destruction. Let's go back to Romans Chapter 1, verse 16 again: Romans 1:16a "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;..." Most people think it says to everyone that repents, is baptized and joins the church, but it doesn't. Or to everyone that does good. Or to everyone that keeps the commandments. You see, it doesn't say any of those things, but only to everyone that believeth the Gospel. Now why do I stress that from program to program? Let's go for a moment to the Book of Hebrews Chapter 11:6 We haven't looked at this verse in a long time. If only humanity could understand this. But the majority completely ignore it. They walk it underfoot: Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him (God);..." So what does God look for first and foremost? Faith! And when God doesn't see faith there is nothing that He can do. You can go all the way back to Cain and Abel, and I imagine that Cain was probably a better guy than Abel was. He probably had a more noble personality, and a harder worker, but what was his problem? No Faith! He didn't believe what God said. Abel did! Esau and Jacob are another perfect example. Esau was probably a better man than Jacob, so far as worldly views were concerned, but why couldn't God use Esau? No Faith! He didn't believe a thing concerning what God had said. The Nation of Israel, what was God's constant controversy with that nation? They wouldn't believe Him. After all that He had done on their behalf, and the visible manifestation of His power, yet they just couldn't believe. He said, "Why didn't they enter into their rest? Because of unbelief!" What's the problem with the world tonight? It certainly isn't the lack of technology, or education and intelligence, and the ability to read. What's the problem then? They can't believe it when
they read it, or hear it. No Faith! And when there is no faith, you cannot even get close to pleasing God! It's impossible. Back to Romans once again. Romans 1:16b "...to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." Now naturally, when Paul began his ministry back in the Book of Acts, we found that everywhere he went, he went to the Jew first in the synagogues. It was a logical place to start. Because after all, Israel had been the Covenant people of God, they had been steeped in the Word of God. They were the very writers of this Book, and so it was very logical that was the place to start. But after about thirty-some years, and they continued to reject it, Paul comes to that final statement, and says, "From henceforth we go to the Gentiles." And so for the past 1900 + years, this precious Gospel has been going primarily to the Gentiles, but it's still open to a Jew. However, he now is going to have to come the same way we do because Paul says over and over in the Book of Romans that there is no difference. I've told my classes over and over that we know that from the very beginning of His dealing with the Nation of Israel, God called out Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the first thing He let them know was that He was going to set the Nation apart. They were to be a sanctified, set apart nation of people. You get into the Exodus with the Nation preparing to come out of Egypt, and the first three plagues also came upon Israel along with the Egyptians. But after that, He put a division between Israel and Egypt where none of the plagues could touch Israel. And He did that to prove His power. And so He put that division between them. And that was the beginning then of this great separation that God put between the Jew and the Gentile. And this continued all the way up through the Old Testament. He was dealing primarily with those Covenant people, the Nation of Israel. But they were `stiff-necked' (as the Scriptures called them), they were steeped in unbelief, and finally God had to let the Temple be destroyed in 70 AD Then the Nation was dispersed, the land was emptied of them. And that brings a thought today. Why can't our politicians seem to understand that Palestine has always been the home of the Jew? They sure don't act like they understand. They act as if the Jew is the impostor, the carpetbagger, the squatter. That's the way they treat the Jew today. That's his home land, and you can't take that away from him. But God providentially uprooted them, because of their unbelief; but at the same time that He uprooted them, what did He promise them? That He would bring them back again. All the Old Testament screams of that. And we should be aware it, that indeed God is still going deal with His national people of Israel. Romans 1:17 "For therein (that refers to the word `salvation' in verse 16) is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written (And then quoting from Hab. 2:4, we find), `The just shall live by faith.'" Martin Luther finally came to this conclusion. He was cloistered in a Catholic monastery, and then all of a sudden the light shone in, and what did Martin Luther conclude? "The just shall live by faith." Not by works, not by religion, or ritual, but by faith. So that became his great theme of the Reformation. I think Christianity has come close to losing it again. We are all wrapped up in works, and materialism, and do this and do that. We have a program for everything. We are losing the whole idea that the just shall live by faith. And if you have heard me teach for a period of time, you know that I have a clear cut definition of the word faith. And what is it? "Taking God at His Word." That is all faith is! Let's go back to the Book of Hebrews and look at the Scripture's own definition of The Word. Turn to Chapter 11, the great faith chapter. Hebrews 11:1-3 "NOW faith is the substance (it's the very core, it's the epitome) of things hoped for, the evidence of thi
ngs not seen (things you can't touch and see). For by it the elders (Old Testament saints) obtained a good report. Through faith (by taking God at His word) we understand (and know) that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. " We are dealing with the invisible, and the only way we can comprehend the invisible is how? By faith! [convertplayer id="nAbQmphg4" width="700" height="525"] Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" Every human being, going all the way back to what man? Adam. We have all sinned - Jew and Gentile. Romans 3:24 "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Now verse 25, here is the verse I want: Romans 3:25 "Whom God hath set forth (watch your grammar here. Who is the Whom referring to? Christ Jesus in verse 24. So it's Christ Jesus that God hath set forth) to be a propitiation (propitiation is a great big word that people just stumble over and hope they don't have to deal with it again. But it is not that kind of a word. It is, in my line of thinking, the most inclusive one word in the whole New Testament. Christ is our propitiation. And how does he become your propitiation? By Faith! He becomes our propitiation) through faith in his blood (not His life. Not His three years of exemplar miracle working and so forth. He can only become the propitiation through faith in His blood, whereby he can), declare his righteousness (not yours or mine) for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God:" And then I love verse 26: Romans 3:26 "To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: (Who's righteousness? Christ the propitiator) that he (Christ) might be just (what does just mean in plain English? Fair) and the justifier of him (that repents and is baptized? No, that is not what is says. It says) which believeth in Jesus." And what is believing? Faith. And what is faith? It is believing. You see, you can't escape it. [convertplayer id="raVdN669W" width="700" height="525"] I Corinthians 13:5 "(Love) Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, (Now that doesn't mean it can never be provoked, but it's not easily provoked) thinketh no evil; (True love can think no evil. That's quite a statement isn't it? Now verse 6. I Corinthians 13:6-8a "(Love) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; (Love) Beareth all things, believeth all things, (Remember faith is the other word for believeth, so our faith is based on love. The whole crux of the work of the Cross was the love of God, that He showered on mankind when He sent the best that heaven had to the Cross of Calvary. So far as Christ is concerned, God's wrath was poured upon Him while He hung there, but as God's wrath was poured on Christ the love of God was shed abroad on the human race.) hopeth all things, endureth all things." Then verse 8a: "Love never faileth:...." Love will never let us down.

The risk management landscape: industry & hiring trends
Tumblr media
The complexity of today’s business landscape, from a global pandemic, supply chain disruptions, cyber attacks, to name but a few, are some of the main contributors to organizational risk exposure. But, with great complexity opportunities abound; and they are certainly exuberant for risk management professionals who are in higher demand than ever before. Our specialist risk management recruiters have revealed their latest thinking on the major talent trends impacting the industry, as well as the wider market at large.
Market risk
Tumblr media
Matthew Stehl, Vice President at Selby Jennings
"In the market risk industry, we have witnessed a tug-of-war between the banks, hedge funds, trading firms, and financial technology firms to attract and retain business-critical talent across market risk, model validation, or any model development verticals. Due to rampant hiring activity across hedge funds and asset managers, we are seeing candidates move easily from the sell-side to the buy-side, subsequently making it more difficult for the banks to secure talent. Hedge funds and crypto trading firms therefore amplified their risk hiring strategy, which is perhaps indicative of market volatility and investors building out these teams to protect their downside.
A trend that has emerged in quantitative risk is FRTB’s, which has driven hiring activity for market risk modelling in the banks. In the derivative pricing model validation space, we’ve witnessed many candidates at the VP and Associate level being swooped up by the front office, resulting in firms finding themselves in a highly constrictive talent pool. On the back of many asset managers and reinsurance firms pumping investments into illiquid products, commercial real estate, and renewable energy, there’s been an appetite for talent with competency in private credit exposure.
A lot of macro hedge funds are enlarging their teams and hiring Chief Risk Officers in abundance. With exponential growth and an acceleration in revenues across hedge funds and crypto firms alike, Risk Managers are in higher demand than ever before. We observed several crypto and fintech firms poach quants and risk talent on the analytical and development side. Today, talent have a plethora of options available and with new risk entrants constantly popping up in the market, competition for industry-leading professionals is heating up, thus we recommend to overhire because of the likelihood of high turnover."
Operational & enterprise risk
Tumblr media
Khalid Figueira-Basheer, Principal Consultant at Selby Jennings
"In operational risk, interestingly, hiring activity has increased at the first line. Historically, where professionals move from audit to the second line, now a lot of firms are embedding candidates into the business and upskilling them to the second line. As the banks accelerate their market share in consumer lending, with a whole suite of sophisticated products currently being released into the market, many firms are jostling for well-versed risk candidates that better understand these subject matters. In this area, salaries have been driven up at least 7-10% over the past 2 years, perhaps reflective of the scarcity of talent.
On the enterprise risk side, some banks have been confronted with a lot of regulatory scrutiny, specifically on high profile concentre orders. Many firms are proactively building out their enterprise risk management teams to better define risk strategies and governance structures. In the current market, a large portion of banks are going through rapid transformation by restructuring their teams and overhauling first line of controls. Against this context, operational risk talent with a project managing background to analyse the function, put a plan in place, and spearhead the process, are a premium in the market."
Credit risk
Tumblr media
Brendan Ferguson, Vice President at Selby Jennings
"In a market that’s driven by both regulation and economic volatility, risk management is at the forefront of all hiring needs. During the onset of the global pandemic, many fintechs took market share, but today the banks are reversing this trend by scaling operations and offering more stability, better rewards, and lucrative payment structures. We’ve noticed several banking conglomerates merge with smaller companies, not only to take over their portfolios, but to expedite the process of hiring, which has resulted in a talent surge on the first and second line.
Talent acquisition endeavours in consumer credit risk took centre stage this year. Across the credit risk lifecycle, market analytics, acquisitions, and portfolio management have driven a huge uptick in headcount. The point of sale (POS) space is equally as hot, with many firms looking to secure candidates that have a strong acumen in analytics and strategy components. With the proliferation of emerging technologies, fraud risk – particularly account takeover – is growing aggressively, and we expect a massive push in this vertical to sustain into 2023. AI and machine learning offers huge growth potential for model validation and risk, with a large demand for professionals across the executive level. We’re therefore instructing our clients to adopt a high degree of flexibility in their business models, especially in a candidate-driven market, as this offers the best chance to attract and retain talent."
Risk management talent insights
Compensation is king
Across the board, compensation is at an all-time high. Today, it’s simply not enough to give candidates making lateral moves a 10% pay increase; largely a result of counteroffers which are intensifying competition. Thus, we are advising businesses to open their wallets and offer at least a 20% increase to avoid mission-critical talent being counteroffered. For clients, we recommend working out what’s being offered in the market, or use a talent specialist, such as Selby Jennings, to make peer comparisons and stay ahead of the curve.
What job titles are in high demand?
In market risk, professionals with varied levels of experience across the buy and sell-side are a hot commodity, with banks simultaneously increasing base salaries to secure this cohort. Looking at the buy-side, in-demand professionals that top the list attain technical fluency in factor modelling and research. Professionals that can create hedging strategies and look at risk from an offensive-minded approach are widely sought after. Hedge funds are mostly looking for professionals covering quant strategies, systematic equities, stat arb, volatility strategies, and systematic credit. In credit rates, professionals with an understanding of pricing models on the exotic derivates side and competency in hard mathematics and statistical calculus are in top demand.
For operational risk, whilst previously individuals that could assess and manage risk were widely sought after, businesses require talent that can implement a holistic risk framework, driving solutions down to the root cause and mitigating firms falling foul of regulatory pressures. In terms of specific skillsets, we’ve seen a variety of firms hire risk and controls for project finance, with most typically stealing talent from private equity and buy-side real estate firms. In addition, the algo and electronic trading market has gone from strength to strength, so most banks are searching for talent with an electronic trading controls background.
On the consumer lending side in credit risk, professionals with 8-10 years of experience are commanding around a 300k base range. Within data analytics specifically, most banks are looking for industry-leading talent in the 5-8 years of experience range to scale up their portfolios. On the wholesale and model development front, corporate lending, leverage finance, counterparty credit risk roles, and hedge fund credit risks are highly desirable. Middle market corporate, underwriting, and portfolio management roles have seen a notable uptick, particularly across middle market M&A and leverage finance transactions.
Geographical hot areas in the spotlight
On the market risk side, we’ve been helping banks flesh out their teams in lower cost of living areas. Currently, there’s a bank-wide trend to move risk and second line roles to Dallas, which poses a challenge for businesses to relocate talented individuals from New York. On the buy-side, New York, Chicago, and the West Coast are desirable destinations. Additionally, Austin, Texas bucked the biggest growth trend with hedge funds setting up shop there; a major satellite trading and hedge fund district that is home to an exuberant tech talent pool.
In operational & enterprise risk verticals, the hottest markets are New York, Dallas, Tampa, Charlotte, Baltimore, and Wilmington in Delaware. The consumer lending space has frankly taken off in Dallas; a lot of clients have expanded their ERM and operational risk teams to plug first and second line roles. Looking at credit risk jobs, the hiring hubs mirror operational risk, with the only significant difference being Phoenix; perhaps reflective of companies opening regional offices there and candidates attracted to a region with no income taxes.

@envestra said: a single hand finds its way through ferdinand's long locks with tenuous care and gentility; the same way it takes up some stray strands so that he might press his lips to the ends of them in a kiss.
in the throes of some conundrum or another brought upon by the unfortunate munitions proposal before him, ferdinand finds himself watching his companion. the curve of his lips, the set of his brow. the way hubert, in turn, looks upon him --- though there were times he was sly about it. never directly, but ferdinand could feel the warmth of his gaze just so. and soon it becomes not a matter of military or state that occupies the filing cabinet of policies that was his mind. no, in this silence that sat between them, ferdinand accesses some other knowledge: a mental list of endearing traits. and adds to it, and revises it. what he’d taken as a nonchalant line was curved upward at the edges in a smile, almost imperceptible. was that because of him and his company ? then it shifts again, mouth corners steepening into a smirk, as if it is that hubert has something to be amused by ---
his rapid - fire attempt to process this new information is cut short for hubert so daintily --- yes, daintily, as ferdinand oft had the privilege of experiencing --- cards his fingers through his hair, extracting strands from golden - orange depths. that alone is enough to garner his attention from his enamored reverie. yet, hubert takes it a step further, those very lips that had kept his attention now give their own to him, gently pressing to the strands as if they were something to be worshipped. nay, ferdinand would argue, it is you that i should be praying to.
❛ hubert --- ❜ the flit of his love’s gaze to him sends his breath hitching, his composure fleeing him as if the sound has disturbed it like a flock of birds. creeping, creeping up his neck, crimson flush takes its place. ❛ th - this is hardly the time; i am trying to read through these proposals ... ❜ the look that he receives in return says that hubert doesn’t quite believe what has been said. ferdinand doesn’t either, but he makes a show of it anyway, letting out a disgruntled huff. ❛ i was ! before you so rudely interrupted me with your --- your charms ! ❜ determined pout gives way to a barely restrained smile. if there was ever a losing battle to be fought, it was most definitely that one. damn him, ferdinand thinks. i love him.
Tumblr media
❛ making my job more difficult every step of the way, hm, hubert ? ❜ he brushes aside the strand that hubert so carefully held. ferdinand stands, and in just as compassionate a motion, places a kiss at the spot above his eye that was covered by his hair. ❛ it seems it is only right for me to respond in kind. ❜
like with their “usual spats”, it did not appear that much would get done either.

Hedging my bets that if Riot ever continues the Arcane!verse beyond Zaun and Piltover and goes to Ionia this dynamic will be one of the central focuses (besides maybe Riven + Yasuo cause of course) if not the main dynamic if the plot takes place during the initial Noxian Invasion of Ionia. As Wild Rift puts it, they’re Noxus and Ionia’s “Broken blades” in the literal and metaphorical sense. Would be a good way to bring back that “story of opposites” thing that Arcane first started with.
