The padding of her medic vest stains thoroughly, and she comes to lean on his physique just to keep standing in her boots. With the blood of the vampire, comes an instant connection to her past, her emotions, and most easily, where she is in any realm.

She doesn't interject, letting him go through his thoughts, just sitting and suspending her disbelief. She catches every rush of blood in his neck, she can catch his cheekbones hollowing out for a second.

And then the world becomes much stranger than any fairytale. We sacrificed them like lambs. You died and rose from the grave. I was picking up the pieces. That was definitely a new response. Frozen here on the floor, she can't even jump to conclusions or let herself feel the sting of rejection. She backs away from the ledge of the abyss, watching an imaginary rock tumble down into the blackness below. She sidesteps it. And abandons the ring on the table. He is quite curious, offering her his crown, and then crumbling over a different piece of jewelry.

He's not a sensitive man, Kira. Don't delude yourself. And yet she hangs back, slowly following him, three feet behind to give him some distance, until the ring is no longer in view. She observes him carefully, and offers uselessly, "Do you want some water?"

The sound. As soon as the words are spoken he has to turn away from her. Pacing in a wobblily, unsteady motion that is not like him at all. He emits a sound that feels like he is being suffocated. A mixture of a dry heave and a nervous laugh that bleeds together.

How is it that the feeling is the same no matter the person or the circumstances?

He refuses to call it panic. Though it expands within him the same way. And makes his pulse quiver in the agitated manner of a body that is fitful and uneasy.

He closes the lid and sets the box onto the closest flat surface. Saying nothing at all as he darts towards the doorway. Because suddenly the room feels much too small.
