Note

The cloudy blue skies of Edogawa slowly turned to darkness as night fell.

Kaoru Shinozaki, upon seeing the notification on her computer that there was a small package just outside, made her way to the front door.

Surely enough, there was a small cardboard box sitting on her doorstep. On the side was the sticker with Kaoru’s address. It didn’t take long for her to realize it was a present that someone had ordered online and sent to her address.

Curious but no longer surprised, she brought the present into her home.

Excited, she lifted the lid off the and found a rectangular machine.

Shortly, a storm of indigo glitter spewed in every direction from the machine, landing all over the table, the floor, even on Kaoru herself.

Kaoru spat, watching the purple glitter fly out of her mouth, absolutely dumbfounded.

Her phone chimed and she pulled her phone out of her pocket and read the text that was just sent to her.

‘Happy Birthday, you old hag’

‘Didn’t take me long to find out it was you that hijacked my birthday stream a few weeks ago, so here’s payback. There’s cameras hidden in this thing and I gotta say, that expression you made just now is gonna forever be a personal favorite’

‘Oh btw, I’m not that mean. Your actual present’s inside the box’

Kaoru carefully peered into the box and found a palm-sized white box and with all the caution in the world, took a look inside.

It was a trio of enamel pins in the shape of Ancient Greek icons: Athena’s owl, the Caduceus, and the Hippocampus.

"Makina….you little…." Kaoru seethed, already making plans to get the streamer back. Kaoru was brought out of her frankly villainous scheming as she heard footsteps approaching.

"Kaoru…." Yuriko paused, taking in the scene in front of her. Glitter was everywhere in the living room. From the floor to the furniture and all over Kaoru. Yuriko could feel her eyebrow twitching. Kaoru felt a shiver run down her spine as the temperature of the room dropped several degrees.

"Kaoru…clean this mess up or else."

"Okay, but this wasn't even my fault-"

"Now."

Kaoru immediately shut her mouth, knowing Yuriko was not in the mood. Not wanting to see the state of her living room anymore, Yuriko turned around, leaving Kaoru alone in the glittery mess.

"Goddamn it, Makina. I'm in so much trouble because of you."

Sachiko Shinozaki: Hogwarts AU

Sachiko Shinozaki is a pureblood witch that was born on the 19th of July 1942 and started attending Hogwarts on the 1st of September 1953, being sorted into Slytherin house.

Even though she was a kind and shy student during her Hogwarts years, she still horrified everyone around her after she eventually became one of the 15th Dark Lords of the Wizarding World's Underground.

It all started in her in her second year at Hogwarts when the Chamber of Secrets was opened for the first time which led to many of Sachiko's muggleborn classmates to get petrified.

But it come to a standstill after her mother, who was hiding in the bathroom after she was almost s*xually assaulted by the former Headmaster at the school, was killed as the last attack.

Sachiko was of course horrified by her mother's death and moved in with her grand-aunt Makina afterwards.

After graduating from Hogwarts, she worked at Flourish and Blotts at first until she found out the truth about what happened to her mother by the principal's son.

This eventually led her to take the path of revenge and led her to kidnap three Hogwarts students right after they gratuaded (all in different houses and different blood-status) and put them under the Imperius Curse to start up her own army to get revenge against the Yanagihori family.

She also put Yoshikazu Yanagihori under it, blaming him just as much as she did his father despite the man's kind-hearted nature.

Eventually, a prophecy was made that told that she could be defeated by a boy named Satoshi Mochida and unlike the other 15th Dark Lords of the Wizarding World's Underground, she wasn't exactly frightened but more intrigued by the prophecy.

During the Battle of Hogwarts, she killed many people including her own supordinate Yoshikazu after he managed to break out of her control.

She was eventually defeated by Satoshi (with a little help from Ayumi and Yoshiki) and passed away during the battle, ending her reign of revenge once and for all.

Unbeknownst to her, she had a twin sister Sachi who had been given up for adoptation when she was just a baby because she was born with facial disformities.

She had an alder wand with a dragon heartstring core.

Her Patronus was a black cat.

Her favorite subjects were Charms and Potions.

Her least favorite subjects were History of Magic and Herbology.

The doorbell to the Kiyozaki household was heard, Anika, too busy with her current task, did not hear the ring. Then suddenly she felt her phone buzz in her back pocket, and, taking it out, she saw a message.

Check your front door.

Blinking at the message, Anika went to her front door and opened it. She found a huge present on the doorstep with “To Anika Kiyozaki” on it. Seeing that it was for her, the brunette picked it up somewhat struggling due to how heavy it was. Dragging it inside to the kitchen, she opened the box, and Anika's eyes grew wide at what was inside.

Inside the box was a brand new expensive coffee machine, and it even had a touch screen as well. Seeing a note on the side of the coffee machine, Anika grabbed it and began to read.

“Happy Birthday, Hypno Girl! Sorry that I had to give this to you kinda late, but life gets in the way, ya know? Anyway, I hope you make great use of the gift and enjoy the rest of your birthday!”

“That old lady really gave the coffee master a… coffee machine…” Makina signed slowly.

Anika chuckled. “Well… I guess she’s not worried about being dragged into sessions anymore.”

“Why do you even do that anyways when you know it’ll never work on her…?”

Anika snickered as she swiped through the different settings on her new coffee machine. “Because it’s funny. She bolts in the other direction and then it’s this month-long game of hide and seek.”

“Sounds like a pain.”

“But you have to admit, it’s pretty funny.”

“… True.”

Night fell over the skies of the city of Edogawa as Kanra Akemi’s special day was drawing to a close.

Just minutes until it reached midnight.

Which was when a brand new package was placed on Kanra’s doorstep.

Unsurprised after the barrage of the gifts earlier in the day, Kanra brought the package in and examined the box carefully.

Taped to the top of the box was a baby pink open-faced letter addressed to her in small, bubbly-like handwriting.

“Happy Birthday, my fellow pocket-sized human,

You know it’s annoying to have your birthday on White Day? Why couldn’t you have been born earlier dammit? Anyway, enjoy your favorite bike or motorcycle or whatever it’s called with this. And try not to end up like that old hag I live with, got it, D.Vil? Gotta stay alive for the next adventure.”

Inside was a black full-coverage helmet with red devil horns protruding from the top.

“You got a gift from Makina?” Kaoru asked.

“Yep! It's a helmet! Look!” Kanra cheered, showing off the devil themed gift.

“Huh, she does know that a motorcycle wreck isn't enough to take you out, right?” Kaoru questioned. “You've literally stopped speeding cars with your bare hands and come out without a scratch.”

“It's the thought that counts Kaoru besides Yuriko-san is always telling us about how we need to be safe while we're out.”

“Safe my ass. If anything, the world needs to be kept safe from us. The Mad Genius & The Red Devil of Edogawa. Now come on, then we'll put that helmet through a test run.”

“Hell yeah! Birthday police chase!”

Welcome to the first annual Miss Hypmic Beauty Pageant!

Provided to you by the Chuohku Ward and Party of Words.

Sponsored by Sigma Inc., Toi Pharmaceutical, and E.L. Medical Co.

The Miss Hypmic Beauty Pageant is a countrywide, inclusive organization that celebrates all cultures, backgrounds and of course, Divisions. This is an opportunity for the women of the Division Rap Battles to share their stories and drive impact personally, professionally, and philosophically. The women who participate in this event serve as inspirational leaders and role models to their communities and fans all over Japan.

We have a lot of fun and exciting stuff planned for today, for both our lovely ladies and you, the audience and those watching at home! But first let’s go over the activities our contestants will be competing against each other in!

Note: Each Round will begin with a starting post in which our contestants have a time limit of 1 hour to prepare themselves until it’s time for them to go on stage (aka, making a post on their own respective blogs) then a poll will be conducted and open for a certain period of time before closing. At the final round, all the votes will be grouped together and the one who has the most will be crowned this year’s “Miss Hypmic”!

Round 1 — Fashion Show (Part 1 - ‘Represent Your City!’)

Pretty self explanatory, we’re easing the girls into the first round by a standard fashion show! But there’s a twist, we’ve given the girls a theme and they have to try their best to dress according to the theme. What’s the theme, you ask? I’m glad you asked! The theme for this section is: “Represent Your City/Division” meaning the ladies will have to show their Division Pride with how they dress!

Round 2 — Talent Show

Once again, it’s self explanatory. Our lovely contestants will have the opportunity to wow the crowd and the judges with any special talent or skill they have! Whether it’s singing, acting, gymnastics, and more! There are no limits except murder to what they can do and we eagerly await their showcases! (Note: You don’t necessarily have to write down what talent your OCs have in full detail, a picture or video will work just fine!)

Round 3 — Fashion Show (Part 2 — ‘Beach Episode!’)

Next, our beautiful contestants are back on the runway but this time it’s to have some fun in the sun with the second theme of the fashion show segment, “Beach Episode!”. Get ready to watch the girls put on their cutest or sexiest swimsuit and strut their stuff!

Round 4 — Singing/Rapping Competition

We’ve heard how these girls rap both in a group and solo but can they carry a melody? Let’s put their singing skills to the test with a singing competition! Each contestant must choose one song of their choice to sing (or rap) in front of the audience and judges, solo performances only so no duets or pair ups!

Final Round — Costume Contest (‘Nightmare Mode’)

And last but not least, the final round will be a costume contest! Our ladies will come back to the runway one last time to show their dark side in the final theme of the fashion show segment which is “Nightmare Mode”! Let’s see how the girls get freaky yet fabulous in the final event to win the crown!

Note

The doorbell to the Kiyozaki household is heard, plus a knock on their front door. Anika goes to answer it. Opening it, she finds no one is there. Looking down she spots something on the doorstep.

Two boxes were on the floor, each with “To Anika Kiyozaki” on them. Seeing they were for her, the brunette picked them up and carried both boxes into the kitchen. Deciding to open the bigger box first, her eyes grew wide at what was inside.

Inside the box was a reddish orange cake decorated with several macarons, flowers, and fruits on top. On top of the cake laid a simple letter. Opening the letter Anika found the messy writing of Edogawa's 3rd member and began reading it

"Dear Anika-san,

Happy Birthday! Hope you don't mind that I made you a cake. I was gonna make something more grand but I didn't have enough time. Hopefully you and your teammates enjoy it. I think you might have to hide it from Shian-san before she eats it all. Have a nice rest of your birthday Anika-san!

Giving a small smile to the cake that had made her Anika turned to the smaller box. She began opening the gift curious as to what had been given. Anika couldn't help but gasp at what was inside.

Inside the case was a gorgeous golden pocket watch. The face of the watch was a beautiful sapphire blue color with a constellation map on it. Picking it up gingerly Anika couldn't help but admire the watch. Noticing that a card was underneath the gift Anika picked it up and began to read.

"Dear Anika,

Happy Birthday girl! Hope you like the pocket watch I made you. Specially made for Rush Hour herself. Ya know despite the fact you keep trying to drag me to therapy for my caffeine addiction (never gonna happen by the way) you aren't too bad. Anyway, have a great rest of your birthday from Edogawa's very own caffeine queen.

“Makina!” Anika yelled. “Makina come here! Come look at what just got delivered!”

While waiting an eternity for Makina to get out of her room, she whipped out her phone to snap a picture of the cake and pocket watch and send to Shian.

Unsurprisingly, she was left on read. Anika chuckled. She could just imagine Shian seeing a single photo of cake and immediately jumping into her car to race over to the Kiyozaki (and sure, Setsukura) household.

Even if that pig had eaten enough food for ten people less than an hour ago.

“The hell do you want…” Makina signed clumsily, yet in a clearly annoyed and exhausted manner as she dragged herself into the living room. She paused in her tracks to stare at the cake that was almost taller than her.

“Look at these!" Anika gushed. “Aren’t these awesome?! They’re from the Edogawa division, how sweet of them!”

“Did… they make…” Makina began signing. She groaned in frustration, having forgotten how to finish the sentence in sign language.

Anika burst out laughing.

“Shut up…” Makina groaned as she typed out her original intended sentence on her phone.

‘did those edogawa people make these?’

“Yeah! I know Kanra Akemi’s known for her baking skills and it says on the letter that Kaoru Shinozaki hand-crafted these herself.” Anika said, slipping the letters to Makina. “Isn’t this one pretty, though? It’s so intricate!”

‘The fuck do you need a pocket watch for when you have your phone on you at all times’

Anika replied back by childishly sticking her tongue out at her. “It’s handmade, excuse you! All gifts are much appreciated!”

Makina ignored her and picked up the letters, reading them through. She flipped Kaoru’s letter around for Anika to see, pointing to the, ‘you keep trying to drag me to therapy for my caffeine addiction’ line and shooting her a very clear ‘what the fuck is this about’ face.

“Oh, don’t give me that look,” Anika snickered. “That Shinozaki-san’s just like you. I may joke around about dragging you two to one of my sessions, but you and I know better than anyone else that my hypnosis would do pretty much nothing for the likes of you two.”

“You bi—”

“Come on! Let's get ourselves a slice before Shian gets here!” Anika hummed, hopping over to the knife board in the corner of her kitchen. With a chef’s knife in hand, she hopped back to the dining table, where she had set her gifts.

Makina took a few steps back in horror as she typed on her phone frantically.

‘you couldve just told me to grab a knife instead! if you slip and lose an arm, that’s on you’

“Oh, I don’t know, I’m a professional at this point,” Anika laughed as she set the knife on the table.

All the lights in the house began flashing bright purple repeatedly.

“What the— There’s no way she’s here already…” Anika said as the annoying flashing lights finally ceased.

Makina trudged towards the front door at a snail’s place and opened the door, revealing the tall redhead, who was clearly in a rush to make it to the house, seeing as she was not in her usual getup, but in a black t-shirt and sweatpants.

‘Cake. Now.’

Something has been bothering me for a while, and I thought I might as well bring it up.

So the original spell, "Spirit in the Ever After", goes like this:

To confer a dying land upon an offering, one shall meditate upon his/her name. (Phrase: Offering [Sachiko], we beg of you.)

Pleas must be spoken in silence a number of times equal to all transgressors plus the offering. (The phrase is thought rather than said, you can't chant aloud. The phrase must be chanted a number of times equal to the amount of people participating, plus one for the offering, i.e., Sachiko.)

An avatar for the offering must then be torn and split equally amongst the transgressors. (Pulling the paper doll apart)

If performed correctly, the offering's desired location shall become the land in which he/she dies. (The offering's, i.e., Sachiko's, desired location of death is now where she will die.)

The charm contradicts itself. In the first bullet, it claims the participant (in this case, Yoshie) will be "confering" (basically bestowing; assigning) a dying land to an offering (in this case, Sachiko). But in the last bullet, it claims "If performed correctly, the offering's desired location shall become the land in which he/she dies", which contradicts the first bullet! According to the first bullet, Yoshie, as the participant, is giving/assigning Sachiko's, as the the offering's, place of death. It has nothing to do with where Sachiko (the offering) desires to die. Given information in the games, I'm going assume the last bullet is incorrect.

That brings up my next object of confusion. Why would Yoshie want her daughter's school building to be her daughter's place of freaking death in first place? Like why would she want her daughter to die there? Does anyone remember when this was discussed in Blood Drive? I know it was, I just don't recall which chapter...

This is an actual question rather than confusion, but who did Yoshie do this ritual with? There has to be at least two participants, seeing as the doll must be pulled apart. It could not have been Sachiko herself, as she was the offering. So? Was it Makina, maybe?

Adding to my confusion, it would seem that, while they were completely unaware, Satoshi and co. (along with everyone who did the ritual) were attempting to bind Sachiko's soul (as she was the offering they chanted about) to a certain place of death. They did not succeed in assigning her a place of death for two reasons. A) They didn't have a place of death in mind, and B) They didn't chant a final time. So my question is, how does failing the ritual equal being teleported to the Nirvana/Heavenly Host? The original ritual (the one they are attempting to perform) speaks nothing of consequences. In fact, it seems more like a "you know you did it wrong when nothing happens, try again" spell. I know that Naho states that failing the ritual will invoke Sachiko's wrath, but that's simply impossible, it's another lie. The spell was not created about Sachiko, she just happened to be the offering this time. And if the spell it "assigning a place of death", the offering must usually be alive, as if they are already dead, they already have one.

Say Naho was telling the truth, that means to perform the charm incorrectly means to invoke the offering's wrath, the living offering would... what? Send you to the Nirvana (Heavenly Host yet to be attached) and kill you? Naho's information here is unsourced and is literally impossible.

So as of now, it is unexplained what the consequences of a Spirit in the Ever After ritual completed incorrectly are, exactly. This is more of an observation, but it's confusing nonetheless.
