Just saw someone using Alina’s rant to Vasily to say that all of those things apply to book Mal and therefore she would hate him and…Vasily was a privileged rich prince who has an important power position, he was supposed to be the person who one day would take care of Ravka and has the resources to have a proper education. Mal was a commoner sodier who was destined to know nothing but war one day he will die in. Okay, book Mal is no perfect by no means, but you can’t compare both situations, specially if one decided to actually do good things

“Alina lost her powers so she could be with Mal”

No! Alina lost her powers because Leigh didn’t want to write her anymore, if she was a man, she probably would have been killed off. If Alina kept her powers she probably would have still end up with Mal. If something, Mal was revived so he could be with Alina

Look, like who you like, ship what you want, hate the ending but the statement that she lost her powers for him is completely false but out and in universe. And a lot of people use that excuse to hate on Leigh and accuse her of misogyny, in fact to me is sexist to asume any desition taken in regards to her character is about a man, given that the reason on the book itself was to save Ravka.

My real thoughts about Malina

I´ll just say , just because i like Malina doesn't mean i don't think it has problems. The reason i like it is in part, because i wasn't expecting to.

Warning: as usual ,you know i always say negative things when i talk about Alina, so if you love her maybe you should skip this.I don't talk about Mal is the best terms either but i´m kinder to him and this is nowhere close to bashing.

The first half of S&B was unbereable to me ,everytime i read Alina thinking about Mal was really annoying,therefore i was sure i was gonna hate their relationship proper. Then it came to the scene in the forest and their natural chemistry surprised me.I said it before: since Mal is right there ,Alina is not thinking how much she misses him, how much she hates thinking about him with another girls,so overall i like her better then he is around since she is focussing on actual important stuff.

But back to the negative stuff: i don't really like their build up,they are cute together but i don't think they work as the MAIN couple.

Unlike Kanej or Zoyalai i think since their strong points are when they are at peace, i´d say i would rather see this characters as the secondary couple: such as Genyavid,Tammadia ,Andreoni,you know; the cute and stable couple.

What i am trying to say is i don't blame people who doesn't like their dynamic ,because i don't really do either as a concept,it worked because Leigh has a great ability to write human interactions.

There is also the fact that i consider Mal the only character that Alina can have interesting interactions with

I warned before that i don't speak kindly about Alina here if you made this until here and you if get offended then that´s on you

Look,Alina has no personality.She is not Bella Swan but i would be lying if i say there is something special about her beyond being born special in a very similar way to Elsa (great ,now i´ll have two fandoms mad at me)

So, as a character ,compared to the others written by Leigh she is really beyond the mark. (At least in book 1, maybe i am completely stupid and she gets some unique traits later and i´ll shut the f up)

As for Mal, he was the only character i didn't disliked in book 1 BUT , as a concept i´ll say he lives in a world too big for him and comes as unimpresive compared to another characters.

I´ll say it again in another words:

-Alina has a good concept and backstory ,but has not interesting traits (or traits at all)

-Mal has a realistic personality and i wouldn't call him one dimensional (maybe two dimensional,he is not the big deal either) but as a concept he doesn't stand out

The result is that if characters quality could be measured, they´ll be more or less on the same level which backs up my previous opinion: when they interact with other characters they take a sit down and are mostly just there. The other more defined characters are showing off their personality, chewing the scene while Alina/Mal are just responsive,any seemly interesting interaction they have with someone else is because of the other person in question ,any enjoyment is pretty one-sided.

Therefore, as they are in a certain ways: equals.When they are with each other it feels balanced and none is overshadowing the other

i know this whole statement seems weird with me talking good and bad about them at the same time but i wanted to pour all my ideas about this. Specially because i´ll be glad to see if other people agree with me or at least that this makes some sense.

I had more detailed things to say but my hand is starting to ache so ,if there is anything not clear i´ll gladly explain

Conveniently forget that his whole “make her powerful” is in order to slave her and  use her to kill people

You are right, how dare Alina not try to make him a better man? Men are naturaly  born as evil creatures who must be cured by the magical vagina of their choice 

Honestly...D/ling stans can’t read, they seriously can’t ,i mean: they somehow dig on Mal and twist it into an abusive behaviour but...can’t acept the Darkling as an actual abuser? I hope this people don’t do this in RL because otherwise that means they won’t stop an actual abuser 

You don’t have to ship Malina (hell, i don’t even like Alina) but this double standard is huge , the worst i´ve ever seen , not even Ron got it so bad 

And just like THAT other ship (you know which one i´m talking about) They just care about The Darkling and not Alina and everything he´s done to her or anyone else
