For the 🦈SirenSong!AU, the reader is going to be related to Logan/Wolverine (35 people voted, majority chose him in the poll, so this is the route we're taking!). The reader will likely be a deep sea siren like him, Laura, and Victor, but could also be part open ocean or reef siren... maybe the reader is more reef or open ocean siren than they are deep sea... or mayhaps they are fully presenting as one of the other two instead of the deep sea type! Imagine what you will, but I might explore (or make canon) one of these ideas in the future.
As for their color scheme, it is probably similar to Logan, Laura, and Victor as well. Something sunny, warm, or warm-toned neutrals... similar to a piece of bumblebee jasper, fire agate, amber, tiger's eye, cat's eye, or other similar warm-toned patterned and shaded gemstone, with bits of brown and black involved. Their scales and fins though... that I plan to make a poll for, one each, so until those are done, I'll leave it vague what their fin and scale types are.
The reader is a mixed bag of feelings and experiences, due to being caught in a siren pup trafficking ring when they were younger, experimented on for a short time, and then raised by a kindly human once they escaped... they don't remember much about the ocean or coastal towns and cities, nothing but vague impressions and certain key things. They do have things they like and dislike, and have unresolved traumatic issues pertaining to the ordeals they went through, and losing their human caretaker recently before the present story...
Some of the things they like are:
• Pearls (any color, shape, or size; they vaguely remember playing with them, but can't remember when; they like the smooth, cool texture to them, too)
• Shrimp (tasty and simple; ate them with the shells on, until they found out you aren't supposed to do that, ever)
• Fluffy Blankets
• Cats
• Crabs (cute AND tasty!)
• Otters (fluffy noodles)
• Seals (cute and fat)
• Octopi (cute; prefer not to eat them, due to their intelligence)
• Jewelry (gold, silver, string, pearl, gem, glass, it doesn't matter: if it is shiny, sparkly, or dangles, they want to collect it)
• Books (Shakespeare, Ivanhoe, Aesop's Fables, or even some children's books like the Narnia series, Goodnight Moon, or Winnie The Pooh... much knowledge and wisdom and whimsy can be found in all of those, and the reader loves them all)
• Classical Music (they adore hearing instruments like the harp, the drums, or the cello)
• Odd Stuffed Animals (the animals that aren't regularly made into plushies, like fish, squid and octopi, caterpillars, foods, etc.)
• Hugs (they crave affection, but don't have friends or family to receive them from or to give it to)
And some things they dislike are:
• Most Humans (they fear them, and have mostly dealt with the more wicked, shady sort; they try to avoid being near them for too long, in fear of them discovering they are a siren)
• Other Sirens (they fear the other sirens hating them or seeing them as defective, due to being so out of touch with their own species and for being caught by humans; but they haven't met another siren since they escaped the humans who caught them)
• Loud Noises
• Bright Lights
• Babies (due to the drool, vomit, and excretions that come out, not to mention their wailing)
• Hot Weather
• Open Ocean (they don't know how to survive on their own in the ocean, and they haven't been to the sea since before they can remember... and the wide, empty waters make them feel lonely)
• Sea Snakes (venomous and can swim, they are a childhood fear of their's)
• Scorpions
• Large Empty Spaces (small empty spaces don't bother them, but too large of a room and only them to fill it makes them feel lost and paranoid)
The reader is someone who feels awkward, doesn't always understand social cues, and tries to be kind (if a bit secretive) to others. They want to be good, and they want friends and family and the love they provide, but they are on their own, now that their only caretaker, the human who raised them, has passed on... So the reader heads into the coastal city, where they know sirens are in charge and they have a better chance at not being found out. They can't risk anyone coming after them or discovering what they are. They won't risk being caught again, they can't bear the thought of having to go through that sort of torture, that type of pain, again. If only the knew that sirens are very caring, especially towards their own... and with the reader being a pup... once the sirens discover that, they aren't ever leaving their new bby on their own with no protection, no pod, no parents or siblings or family... And Logan/Wolverine is certainly going to be emotional when he sees his lost pup again, and he sure as h*ll won't be letting them go, not without a fight... not after losing them all those years ago...

From the results of the poll: it's conlang time!
So first off: basically everything about it might still change and my linguistic knowledge is not very impressive. I do this for fun and I am still learning!
Now, the conlang is (for now) called Tsekàn /t͡sekɑn/. I am not yet sure if this is the parent language spoken by the first Tèràl so long ago, or if it will be the old language spoken by the people of Gòlhyík that will evolve into modern Tsekàn. But that's for later, for now I'll just keep working on it and show you some of what I got so far!
Let's start with phonology! Consonants first:
Tumblr media
And the vowels:
Tumblr media
Maybe not the best romanisation but this is how it is for now!
The script for Tsekàn is probably also still gonna change but this is what it looks like so far:
Tumblr media
It's written bottem to top and functions mostly like an abugida. Traditionally it was written on the veins of giant leafs, but in modern day it is often written like shown above after paper making techniques improved and people didn't write on leaves anymore.
Now more on the language again! Syntax first:
Tsekàn has a VOS wordorder but it can be flexible. Stress is typically on the second to last syllable but since it’s common for speakers to change where the stress is for example in order to give it a more musical sound.
Adjectives and adpositions go in front of nouns, the posessor comes before the possessed and auxiliaries go in front of verbs.
Uhmmm I’m not sure what else to say for now. The grammar is still under construction but I can tell a little about it I guess.
So singular is unmarked and plural is formes with the prefix ‘né-’ /neː/
Oh! Tsekàn has a gendered system with two classes. These are not actually related to gender but are about the ‘Hjalá’ /ɦjalaː/ and the ‘imhjála’ /imɦjaːla/. Meaning those who sing and those who don’t sing. The ‘Hjalá’ are all the humanoid species and ‘imhjála’ is everything else. Hjalá is unmarked, imhjála is marked with the prefix ‘àl-’ /ɑl/. The prefix goes on the verb in the sentence. The article ‘the’ translates to ‘tòs’ /tɔs/ for the imhjála and ‘tá’ /taː/ for the Hjalá.
So for example: ‘the animal walks ’ would be ‘àlpàk tòs nanòs’ /ɑlpɑk tɔs nanɔs/. (Nanòs refers to land animals specifically)
I think I’ll leave it off here for now! Hope it was interesting to read and I’ll post more about the grammer later! If you have any questions or feedback feel free to ask!
Havéja! /ɦaveːja/

Well, I bought ad-free Tumblr.
I did it because I realized what I would prefer, if I could have my way (aside from just no one needing to pay for anything at all ever hahahahaha), then we'd all pay to subscribe to tumblr and it just wouldn't be free. It'd be like $1.99 per month and all of us would pay it and have no ads and be happy and whee.
Now that's not my serious opinion. I know, for one, what happens when you stick things behind a paywall. Tumblr might not be a scientific journal or reputable news source (lol) but a paywall still divides, still excludes, and that's antithetical to the entire experience of the Internet. And then, there would still be all the other social media sites that have ads and don't make you pay out of pocket, which would sail on with everyone who can't afford or doesn't want to afford tumblr.
Everyone paying a nice, neat, cheap monthly fee or discount annual fee and getting along together is what would work best for me, but it's not realistic for everyone. But, since I'm willing to do it, I thought, why haven't I? And I'll tell you why: Because idk about the rest of you, but much of tumblr really doesn't work that well for me. I have issues with posting, especially with paragraph breaks and trying to move bits of text around. I don't like that posts I reblogged in the past are hidden forever behind "Flagged for mature content" warnings and it's like. A picture of a cat. Not to mention broken music links and videos (which I guess aren't tumblr's fault, just makes me sad). I don't like how pictures seem to always end up sized differently and you have to open it just the right way to see it how you want. Not to mention a bunch of features tumblr used to have that I loved have gone away or been massively de-emphasized: support for music players on blogs, for example. (Yes I still have one but it's a pain the neck.) Polls are nice but I miss that. I also miss convenient free themes - they're still there of course! But finding one that has everything I want (no endless scrolling, clear navigation, visible icon and description, music player, etc) is also a pain and I just end up reusing the same old one I've been using since I joined and recoloring it lol.
So I'd be happier about paying for tumblr if the experience were just a touch cleaner, faster. Oh, and not forgetting about PC users xP I know lots of people use their phone, I do too, it's convenient - but PC is just easier. Well, maybe for teens who can type on their phones at 50 mph it's no big deal. But I love love love my keyboard.
But anyway I paid it so I get a year without ads. Honestly I thought about it and $40 a year is what, ten cents a day? I really don't mind that. I wasn't really bothered by ads anymore since they've been scaled back, but now I can be bothered by them even less, so yay. OTOH, it looks like the subscription auto-renews, which I HATE. If so, I hope they send a warning email a few days before.
Oh and you know what else helped. I did a few youtube searches recently, and wanted to tear out my own hair over how frustrating it was. I just want a list of videos that relate to the subject of my search, not interspersed between "things I've seen before," "random shorts," "things that are similar," "things totally different that Youtube wants to show me anyway." And same thing on Google, Amazon, anywhere. I'm just so sick of it. So I'll fucking pay for fucking tumblr x'D Just work and not be annoying alright!!
I find it amusing that the moment I paid, I got a pop-up asking me to pay more to give ad-free to someone else. I might be more amenable when my pocketbook isn't smarting anymore 9_9
But this was funniest of all:
Tumblr media
OK, I can't imagine ever doing it, but I suppose there's someone out there who thinks highly enough of the stuff that gets blazed to decide they want to continue seeing it even after spending $40 x'D But who is paying the fee and choosing show all ads? Please, is there anyone? I want to see a cryptid for myself.

Saturday Report 58
In the middle of a Saturday! I don't understand, what's going on it's a world gone astray!
So progress has been going well as always! That's good! I'm actually almost done with all the stuff I was adding to Memories. There's new stuff, there's rewritten stuff and all endings do something different with the Yui narrator, even if it's just a minor thing.
I believe that I will be able to get this out this month, all I need to do after Memories is check Troubles and Jealousy, and then add the Yui narrator on them. My biggest problem right now is how much i keep wanting to add stuff as I go through the scenario! This is supposed to be a real quick update! I have to control myself to not add too many things!
I'm still not sure if I'll do another small update after this one or I'll take the break I was talking about… It all depends on how I'm feeling after I'm done, which right now, I'm having so much fun! Especially when I think about all the other stuff I want to make that's not in the scenario… like maybe… perhaps… something related to discord… who knows.
Also I'll talk more about the polls later, but I like the results a lot!
What am I doing?:
Minor updating Memories
How much is done?(Small Flowchart)
???
Progress of the update:
0hr(s) 0 minute(s) of rough writing done
0 hr(s) 0 minute of final writing and animation done
0 hr(s) 0 minute(s) of sound and music done
Planned hours: ???
Planned release date: June

An incomplete thread on all the reasons why 1989 could be the next Taylor's Version:
1. The signed Fearless (Taylor's Version) CDs: Remember the price of these CDs? 19.89$. Do I have to say more? Sure, the signed Red (Taylor's Version) CDs were 20.10$, but Fearless came first. Could it be a hint at the order of the next two rerecordings? Guess we'll have to wait and see...
2. Rock and Roll hall of fame: When Taylor Swift inducted Carole King into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, she wore a bodysuit that reminded me a lot of the suit she wore for a performance of Out Of The Woods on the 1989 tour. You know, thethat replaced her skincolor-bodysuit and got mocked for looking like... you know. Was that a throwback? An easter egg? Only Taylor knows.
3. An upstate escape: On TikTok, Taylor herself acknowledged that the car in the ATW short film was produced in 1989. Wouldn't be the first time she used a music video as an easter egg.
Tumblr media
4. A scarlet letter: Talking about music videos, a friend of mine pointed out that the A left in the cake of the I Bet You Think About Me mv is a scarlet letter. "We show off our different scarlet letters", anybody? Honorary mention to the seagulls on the bottom layer of the cake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. New York: Also known as the Big Apple. Where can we find apples? On the juiceboxes at the kids table, of course! Could also be a reference to the epic bridge in the Blank Space mv.
Tumblr media
6. Wonderland: Two things lured me into Wonderland in this interview she did with Jimmy Fallon. "If you want to go down a rabbithole with us, come along" and "We're all mad here". Oh, Taylor, I'm definitely mad here.
7. Magic, madness, heaven, SIN: When the first Red TV chapters came out, @taylornation posted these interesting polls. Notice anything suspicious? Like the three letters that are missing? And how they spell out sin? I have a blank space, and I'll certainly write down this easter egg.
Tumblr media
8. Her merch store: @TurtlesVersion over on Twitter shared this screenshot. I wonder why May 13th could be written in blue... surely nothing related to 1989 TV... /s
Tumblr media
9. The Joker and the Queen: Taylor didn't make a post for the "The Joker and the Queen" music video, but she did share an Instagram story. With five exclamation points. We know she counts emojis, so could she be counting exclamation points now as well?
Tumblr media
10. A blank space: I don't remember who pointed it out first, but there's a blank space between heaven and the last exclamation point. Are you mad yet?
11. An old conversation: In the music video to TJATQ, we see this old conversation between Taylor and Ed. When is it from? 2015. The 1989 era. The rhymes may not be the best, but the easter eggs are for sure.
Tumblr media
12. It's blue, the feeling I got: Towards the end of the TJATQ mv, we see two colors dominate the screen. Red, and then after this shot, blue. 1989's color. Red into blue, I think you know where I'm going with this
Tumblr media
13. Never out of style: Cathy Waterman, the artist behind the Red ring, posted this photo of the original design, along with a very interesting caption. Maybe she's designing some merch for 1989 TV? Maybe a paperplane necklace?
Tumblr media
In conclusion: does my clown make-up look good?

I'm bored and listening to Darren's Christmas album so I thought I'd write down some of my thoughts about the songs. Feel free to read if you wish under the cut!
Related topic before I begin: Would people be interested in a poll about the album? Let me know!
Happy Holidays/The Holiday Season
Classic. Beautiful. Very Christmassy. I don't LOVE LOVE LOVE it as much as I do other songs on the album but it's got a jazzy groove to it and classics are classics for a reason. He does a good job with this one and it's a great way to start the album.
Notable Parts: 'Holiday-uh season'. I love the way he adds that inflection. His inflections (whether part of the classic song or all Darren) are pretty much my favourite parts of most of these songs.
I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas
I ADORE this one. This song, to me, has always been a little goofy and while it's a classic, it's not a classic I've always enjoyed. But I LOVE Darren's version. There's a childlike element to it (especially with the squeaky sounds and kazoos) but it's also got a grown up feel to it as well (maybe because of Darren's smooth vocals). I applaud Darren for making me love a song I've never really enjoyed more than a silly novelty before.
Notable Parts: His inflection on 'hippopotamus' at 50 seconds in and then his inflection on 'hippopotamuses' at around the one minute mark. Also the line 'teacher says the hippo is a vegetarian'. Lastly, his 'They do' at the end.
(Everybody's Waiting For) The Man With The Bag (Featuring Adam Lambert)
Another jazzy 'classic' (I'm not familiar with it) but it's definitely got that Christmas feel. I love their banter at the beginning of the song and felt like they sounded good together. My only 'complaint'? While I don't feel like Adam and Darren have similar voices, I found it hard to differentiate between their voices during their solo parts. It doesn't really detract from my like of the song but I found it a little confusing/distracting that I couldn't always tell which of them was singing.
Notable Parts: Darren sliding from saying 'Hey if it makes you feel any better' to singing the first line of the song. Also, the saxophone.
St. Patrick's Day
The noise I made when this started for the first time and he started to sing? Undignified and not a noise my car has ever heard (in an effort not to be crass I'll just say the noise would probably feel more at home in a specific room of my house...) I've stated before how much I love John Mayer and how much I wish Darren sang more of his songs. He does SUCH a good job with this one. To the point where I went right after to re-listen to John Mayer's version and I gotta say - I prefer Darren's. It's smoother and warmer. There's a coldness to John Mayer's version that Darren's doesn't have. I would be extremely happy with an entire album of Darren covering John Mayer's music but since that won't happen I'll just listen to this version of St. Patrick's Day and Darren's TikTok duet of Why Georgia over and over again.
Notable Parts: Darren saying 'We'll' at the 2 minute mark and everything after the 4 minute mark.
River
I'm not this song's hugest fan at the best of times but I find Darren's version discombobulating. I've never heard this song in any other way then slow and maudlin so the fact that this version has pep and jingle bells and horns and clapping I just find it difficult to settle with. It may be one that I'll enjoy more the more I listen to it but it's not my favourite.
Notable Parts: I actually don't hate the jingle bells, and horns, and clapping (it just doesn't fit with the song itself)
Welcome Home
This song is like a warm hug. It's not a song I've ever heard before but this is how I want the holidays to feel for everyone (hell this is what I want 'home' to feel like for everyone). I'm not actually convinced this song is a Christmas song? I'm listening to it while I write this and I don't think I've heard a single mention of Christmas. But whether it is or isn't, he's made it FEEL like a Christmas song.
Notable Parts: Darren's smooth voice making it feel like he's wrapping you in a warm hug while he sings.
All Those Christmas Cliches
I've never heard this song before but I feel like it's perfect, not only as a Christmas song but also because it feels like Darren. It feels like what Christmas is to him...and after looking up the original lyrics I realize why! He's changed some of the lyrics to reflect HIS Christmas experiences. From the beginning - how did I not realize all the places he mentioned (most notably 'the Bay')? - to the line about the Christmas goose, these changes have made this song so much better in my mind. I'm also a very big Christmas tradition girl so this song in general is filled with all the things I love about Christmas. YES - give me all the Christmas cliches.
Notable Parts: His changed lyrics are definitely the best part but the way he says 'dad' is by far my favourite part of the song.
The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)
This song, specifically the Anne Murray version, is Christmas to me. It's tied for my favourite Christmas song (along with Silver Bells (also the Anne Murray version)) because I will forever remember my mom sitting on my (or my sisters') beds and singing it to us almost every night in December every year growing up. I absolutely adore that Darren has it on his album and his version is classy and beautiful and perfect.
Notable Parts: I wouldn't say there are any notable parts. This song is just a classic and it's done beautifully.
Somewhere In My Memory (featuring Evan Rachel Wood)
I love this song because of it's connection with Home Alone. That movie is a holiday mainstay for me and I will cry EVERY TIME Catherine O'Hara rounds the corner and Macaulay Culkin turns around and sees her there. That being said, however, I wasn't blown away by this version. It's fine. But beyond the intro (which is the main part that reminds me of the movie) I felt a little blah about this song.
Notable Parts: The intro (before they start singing) because it reminds me most of the movie.
Drunk On Christmas (featuring Lainey Wilson)
I like this song. I like it even more that it's an original. I wouldn't go so far as to say I LOVE it, but I enjoy the sentiment and find the music and lyrics pleasing to the ear. It's not remarkable but it's good. I WILL say however, I'm hoping Darren plays this song at the concerts because I really REALLY need to experience him playing the violin part in the middle (not sure if either thing will happen but that's where my brain goes).
Notable Parts: Not really anything notable here except maybe the violin in the middle only because I want to hear/see Darren play that part lol
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
I appreciate having a professional recording of Darren singing this song. As much as it was on Glee, he didn't sing the whole thing and I've loved his piano version from YEARS ago for a long time but that wasn't professionally recorded (and even had him turning his phone off part way through lol - though I do, oddly enough, enjoy that part). His voice is perfect for this song and the acoustic guitar is just so lovely on this.
Notable Parts: The whole thing deserves to be listened to holistically - no part outshines another part. It's better as a whole.
New Year
Another song I've never heard of before but quite enjoy! I'm sure if I were to hear the original I wouldn't like it as much (hazard of hearing a different version first). There's almost a melancholy feel to this song but I like that. It's a good way to end the album, and it's great that it's not a Christmas song but still a song about the season.
Notable Parts: The countdown near the beginning and the way he says 'One' and while I know Darren didn't write this line I love this line 'Thanking the old year for all that it brought her, no mention of the things it took away'. That line hit me hard because this year has taken a lot from me and while I hope to remember all the things that were lost on New Year's this year, I want to also try to think of what this year has given me.
