When you first look at Garrett you see someone who has seena lot but it wasnt always this way

He was once called Xiao, a hopeless romantic who wanted to be an officer, the right side of justice. 

But having seeing the police corruption first hand made him more frightened. On one incident he saw the illegal interrogation of an imnate, it made him react badly

The riochet powers came in a dire situation where out of fear he riochet the bullet, it was a change. The police didnt want to deal with him anymore,  he was just a goody two shoes and maybe the powers would make him even more a dogooder

An unprovoked dismissal and a black eye, Xiao booked a ticket to England maybe tostart anew

There he meant Dahlia, someone with the endless eyes and a smile. He wanted to be with her and rode a bike to ask her out. He had hope again. 

They both worked maybe  two jobs before finding a flat, one of his girlfirends job was in the casino, despite his hesitation. 

It all shattered when Dahlia was shot during a shoot out. All Xiao wanted was just some money to give her a proper funeral but her boss refused. 

The next night he grabbed the playing cards using the powers he swore he would never use again, the cards slice the casino boss, his death on display in the casino 

It was a few days after he recieved the invitation, his heart blackened. He decided t take the chance. 

A few years later he was the guy nknow as smart shot, the riochet powers able to maim or kill.

! ✰ ° — [ HERMAN TØMMERAAS , MALE, HE/HIM ] mattias andrew michael näessén altelius (mattias 'matty' altelius), aka agent 029 is a twenty-one year old junior agent that has been loyal to mercy for three years. they have a reputation of being the two-way mirror because they can be adaptable & charming. but let’s not forget they’re pretty boyish & closed-off. if you listen closely you can hear whatever it takes by imagine dragons whenever they walk past. ( cold lakes in summer, the thrill of pride at being told good job, seeing out but people not seeing in, three dozen friends who don't know you past skin deep )

HISTORY

Born in Stockholm, Sweden to Swedish parents. His full name is Mattias Andrew Michael Näessén Altelius ( first name, two middle names, two last names; as Sweden does not hyphenate ). Known as Mattias or Matty Altelius. Responds first to 029 or 29.

The Altelius name is a name that might someday turn into a legacy. Michael Altelius is the patriarch, first of his name to be a Mercy agent and perhaps heralded to have been and to be one of the best. Michael is in tactical now, pulling strings from high up or something... — and Mattias is his eldest son.

Matty and his younger brother were raised to be an agents from the moment they were born. They’ve been training their whole lives how to fight, how to observe, how to lie, how to think on ones feet, and everything in between. Michael Altelius made the family name into something that might just be more and made sure his two sons would not be the ones who would bring that all crashing down.

Michael raised his family in his sons’ formative years in the states despite being a native Swede, returning to Sweden every summer to return to their roots and also scout.

Matty has taken especially well to undercover ops; slipping on different people and personas came naturally to him, and it gives him a thrill. It also makes him feel normals and safe in a way, as ludicrous as it might sound.

NOTES

About his personal life, Matty is very careful not to let anything show. He has an almost childish and devil-may-care attitude, mixed with easy flirtatiousness and boyish charm. He’s good at making people think they know him without revealing anything at all. People have said they’ve seen him put on every person except Mattias Altelius.

Matty has one younger brother Maximilian Linus Alexander Näessén Altelius (Max Altelius) who is in his first years of official training. Both of them are very close.

Matty fights extremely well, being trained from such a young age, but he also fights like he’s been trained. The very best eyes are able to pick out patterns eventually, though he will prove to be an extremely difficult partner (and sometimes wins in spite of that).

Protocol is Matty’s moral conscious, for better or worse. He was practically raised in the division and has been brainwashed taught that everything about it is law. We expect great things from you, Mattias.

Matty is extremely loyal to his family and would only ever break protocol if it was his brother on the line ( on the flipside, his brother is his weakest point ). This also circles back as he feels that any step out of line he takes has repercussions on his father and his little brother and the family name.

Matty believes he has a good relationship with his father, but he also aims to do nothing but please. The Division has been shot through every facet of his life, even that of his familial relationships. That being said, Max is one of two people who know him for who he is.

Altelius tradition is to pick numbers as agent names. Matty’s is 029 and Max’s is 092. Children reduced to numbers. amirite fam???

the entirety of ‘whatever it takes’ fits Matty so well but especially: Whip, whip / Run me like a racehorse / Pull me like a ripcord / Break me down and build me up.    &&     I'm just a product of the system, a catastrophe / And yet a masterpiece, and yet I'm half-diseased

CONNECTIONS

ooof so like…. part of his character is he makes really superficial connections but he’s superfriendly….so here we go.

THE TRAINING PARTNER: different from the other one above, this is someone who started training with gabe. maybe they were roommates, but they hit it off. im thinking a more bookish/computer/nerdy muse for this —someone who would be the brains of an operation– but i’m open lol.

THE MENTOR: maybe an instructor or someone who just… gives matty his space to be a ‘normal’ for once, without the pressure to live up or elevate the altelius name. literally just give me an adultier figure that’s gunna show this boy some love instead of heaping on expectations like his father.

THE PRYER: someone who wants to “figure him out” bc they believe there’s something more under that carefree boyish attitude. they’d be right, but will they ever figure that out?
