I had good confidence in the car all the time and had some good battles. It’s a shame.” Kvyat and Rockenfeller also failed to finish the race. It was Raikkonen’s only planned race appearance in the premier division of NASCAR. Loris Hezemans start in 2018 in de NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. De 20-jarige in Brussel woonachtige Nederlander staat aan de start met Hendriks Motorsport. Het Limburgse team keert terug nadat ze in 2016 debuteerden in de klasse. De jonge Hezemans telg is de zoon van toerwagen legende Toine Hezemans en de broer van voormalig FIA GT rijder Mike Hezemans. Voor Toine Hezemans is een bijzondere rol weggelegd, hij staat op de deelnemerslijst als ‘owner’, eigenaar van de auto. Ondanks zijn jonge leeftijd heeft Loris Hezemans al veel ervaring in autosport. Hij begon zijn autosport carrire in de Renault Clio Cup. Een jaar later stond hij op het podium in de TCR International Series. In 2016 combineerde hij een campagne in de Audi Sport TT Cup met TCR en de ADAC GT Masters. Voor 2018 rijdt Hezemans in de Elite 1 klasse tegen de beste Europese NASCAR rijders. De NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is niet de eerst samenwerking tussen Hendriks Motorsport en familie Hezemans. Het raceteam, afkomstig uit het Limburgse Maasbree, is bezig met een restauratie van de Bitter GT1 uit 1998. De Lotus Elise variant werd destijds ingezet door Toine Hezemans met Mike Hezemans aan het stuur. Daarnaast is familie Hezemans ook bekend met tweevoudig NASCAR Whelen Euro Series kampioen Anthony Kumpen. Kumpen en Mike Hezemans werken samen in de vastgoedsector.

Op 28 februari doet Loris Hezemans mee met een Euro NASCAR testsessie in het Italiaanse Franciacorta. Het team is nog op zoek naar een coureur die de auto inzet bij de Elite 2 races. Het raceseizoen start op 14 april op Circuit Ricardo Tormo, nabij Valencia.
