epon, im so sorry for what happened to you. when i first met your mother, i didnt know that a child would be created from her. im sorry that the first time we met was when she died and im sorry i left you- i was trying to protect you, but i dont expect you to forgive me because of that. the foundation was never supposed to find you, but im glad you were at least safe after they did. i did everything i could for you, but i know it wasnt enough. you dont ever have to forgive me. you shouldnt -clef

So, me and Spooky (@/brightest-ideas's mod) have this tendency to randomly come up with AUs; this is a drabble from one of them.

It isn't canon to the blogs, but I had fun writing it!

“Look at her… she’s so soft and squishy.”

Ash bumped Mikell with their shoulder playfully. “Hey, she’s our soft and squishy; don’t be mean.”

“I’m not bein’ mean.” He sat next to Ash on the bed, smiling gently at his joyfriend and daughter. Hospitals were generally uncomfortable—with the blinding white walls, flickering LEDs, and sterilizing cleaners—but Mikell had never seen anything more mesmerizing. “So beautiful…”

“She is.”

“I meant both of you, Ashie.” He kissed their forehead. “Can I hold her?”

Ash laughed softly, clearly in love and very, *very* tired from just delivering three babies. “Of course. She’s your daughter.”

At those words, he teared up.

He held tiny little Astra, asleep and swaddled, to his chest. “Hi, baby… Hi, my little girl… I’ve been wanting to meet you for so long. Oh, you have no idea how much love you’ve stumbled into, do you?”

He kissed Astra’s chubby little baby cheeks.

“Your brothers will be here soon, won’t they?” he cooed. “Yeah? Yeah, they’ll be here soon. I can’t wait for our family to finally be together… you and your brothers, your aunts and uncles, your gorgeous, amazing ren…”

“And your strong, beautiful papa,” Ash added.

“That’s me.” Mikell’s voice was a bit strained because of how widely he was smiling. “Yeah, I’m your papa.”

The doors opened; Mikell perking up and looking at the nurses reminded Ash of a meerkat or a curious puppy.

They watched on in amusement as Mikell wandered around the recovery room, two tiny bundles of blue blankets snug and safe in his arms, softly echoing what he’d been telling Astra, as if any of them could understand him.

Ash used to think of what happened to them—Dallas, their anomaly, the Foundation, being contained, losing their parents—as ruining their life; they used to feel like everything was taken from them.

But now?

“If only Adam and Evelyn could see me now. I finally did the one thing they wanted from me,” Mikell said. “Fell in love. Had kids.”

“But not the way they wanted,” Ash said, a little worried that Mikell was beginning to spiral.

“No.” Mikell kissed Ash. He looked so peaceful and content, more so than Ash had ever seen him when talking about his parents. “Not the way they wanted.”

Now, they had so much more. They still missed their parents, and it still upset them to think about how the people who raised them could forget them so easily, but they had their own family now: Mikell and his siblings, Jeremiah and Clef and their daughters, Min and Hank – and now, their own children.

Astra Sarah-Claire Gallagher. Rowan Jack Gallagher. Orion TJ Gallagher.

Aisling Deirdre Gallagher had never been happier and more at peace.

…At least until Jack, TJ, Clef, Jeremiah—the only responsible one, with Sarah and Claire in tow—Eliza, and Epon burst into the recovery room and woke the babies, causing them to squirm and whine and Mikell to gently hush them and soothe them back to sleep while glaring down the intruders.

Well, Ash was still happy anyway.
