Dragon Ball Super Manga Ch. 77-80
Tumblr media
When I first read this, I was pissed because I’m sick of Vegeta just knowing everything that happened to every Saiyan before they were wiped out.  I mean, he was a kid back then, how would he know Goku’s dad?
Then I finally remembered Vegeta grew up with Goku’s brother, and it suddenly made sense.
Tumblr media
Okay, so let’s back up a bit and go over why Granolah wants revenge in the first place.  About forty-odd years ago the Cerealians were invaded by Frieza’s forces, including a lot of Saiyans.  I think they showed some other aliens in Frieza uniforms, but it’s mainly Saiyans using Oozaru forms.  The Cerealians managed to neutralize the giant ape business, but the Saiyans were still strong enough to kill them all.  There was also a small community of Namekians living on the planet Cereal, and they all died as well.  There were only two survivors: The Namekian Monaito, who inherited the Cerealian Dragon Balls from the village elder, and Granolah, who found refuge in a building with his mother.
However, Granolah and his mom were discovered by a Saiyan named Bardock.  He probably would have killed them on sight, except they happened to remind him of...
Tumblr media
His wife and newborn son, whom he saw recently before this mission.  Turns out Bardock was the one who came up with the name “Kakarot.”
Tumblr media
So instead of killing the two Cerealians, Bardock tells the rest of his squad that he’s going to stay behind to take out any survivors.  Then he scans the area and locates Monaito.  He then takes Granolah and his mom to Monaito and asks him to take them in.  Then he leaves, or he tries to, anyway.
Afterwards, Granolah grew up craving revenge on the Saiyans and Frieza, and he must have had no memory of Bardock’s act of mercy.  Monaito’s known all along, and he kept it a secret this whole time, but he’s telling Granolah now because he wants him to stop his attack on Goku and Vegeta.  And as he explains all this, he notices that Goku bears a striking resemblance to Bardock, and that’s when Vegeta explains that Bardock was Goku’s father.
But wait, if Bardock saved Granolah’s mother, then who killed her?  Ah, well you see...
Tumblr media
Shortly after Bardock saved those guys, the Heeters showed up.  They worked as planet brokers under Frieza, so once Planet Cereal was vacant, they started making plans to sell it to the Sugarians.  Naturally, they planned to overcharge the Sugurians and give Frieza a modest cut.
Tumblr media
But then they happened across Bardock, Monaito, Granolah and his mom, and Bardock had to pretend that he was preparing to take Monaito prisoner to cover his tracks.  Elec then shot Granolah’s mom just to simplify things.  This infuriated Bardock, who then attacked the Heeters, which led to a fight with Gas.  Bardock won that day, although Monaito didn’t get to see that part, for some reason.
So why didn’t Monaito tell Granolah about the Heeters?  Why didn’t he say anything when Granolah started working for them?
Tumblr media
Because Monaito knew he’d go off on some half-baked revenge scheme and get himself killed.  This is probably why Monaito allowed Granolah to believe it was the Saiyans who did it, because once Frieza destroyed their home planet, there was no one for Granolah to go after, and he seemed to understand that Frieza was too strong.  But that backfired on Monaito, because once Granolah found out about Frieza returning and some Saiyans still being alive, he... went off on some half-baked revenge scheme.
Anyway, Elec knew Granolah had talent, and since he never knew about the whole murdered-his-mom thing, Elec thought he could recruit him for his organization.  After that, Monaito couldn’t tell him the truth, because Elec would kill them both.
Tumblr media
Anyway, while all this exposition is happening, the Heeters find the Cerealian Dragon Balls and make their wish...
Tumblr media
... which is basically the same wish Granolah made at the beginning of this arc, only they asked for Gas to become the strongest warrior in the universe.  And since the wish was granted, that means Gas must be even stronger than Granolah is.
Tumblr media
So they fight, and Granolah gets his ass kicked.  Gas’ whole deal is that he uses energy constructs, sort of like Green Lantern but without the ring.  This isn’t a new power he got, it’s something he’s always been able to do, and through much of this battle, he tries to win with the power he had before Elec made the wish.
Tumblr media
Goku comes up with a plan to handle Gas.  He wants Vegeta to eat his senzu bean and fight with Ultra Ego again, but Vegeta left the bean in his armor, which he took off while fighting Granolah.  So first he has to go find it, and Goku will try to hold Gas off in the meantime.
Tumblr media
But Vegeta gives the senzu bean to Granolah instead, insisting that he’s the one who wants revenge on these guys, so it should be him who settles things.
Tumblr media
On his way to fight Gas, Granolah makes up with Oatmeel and puts him back on, assuring the computer than they’re a team.  Awww.
Tumblr media
So this is just Gas vs. Granolah, with Goku and Vegeta reduced to spectators.  It’s an interesting choice to say the least.  Gas should have the advantage on power, but Granolah stays competitive for a few reasons.
1) Gas doesn’t want to use his full strength, because he thinks he should be able to win with the power he had before the wish.  That doesn’t work, so he eventually relents and uses his full power, but he wastes a lot of valuable time and energy this way.
2) Gas hasn’t fought much at all in this arc, mainly because Elec always wanted to keep him in reserve as a last resort. We know he fought Bardock decades ago (and lost), so he’s clearly gotten a lot stronger, even without that wish to beef him up, but he lacks experience with this power.  Granolah had the same problem when he fought Goku and Vegeta, but now he’s got the advantage, because he... just got done fighting Goku and Vegeta.  If he can beat those two, he can hold his own against Gas.
3) Granolah has his Cerelian perception, which makes his attacks far more precise than anything Gas can do.
Tumblr media
It’s also possible that Gas’s heart just isn’t in this.  He seems distant from the priorities of the other Heeters.  When he has difficulty fighting, Elec removes the headband of teeth from his head.  The other Heeter wear these like necklaces, and apparently they’re not decoaritive.  Somehow they restrain their powers, and if you remove them, they become stronger, but also go berserk.  Wonder Woman’s bracelets used to work this way.  If she lost them, she’d go apeshit and kick everyone’s ass.
Tumblr media
According to Monaito, the same thing happened when Bardock fought Gas forty years ago.  Gas took off his headband thing and transformed into a gonzo monster.  Bardock won somehow, but Gas is far more powerful now, and this time he attacks everybody.  But Elec isn’t worried, because if Gas is truly the strongest in the universe now, then he ought to be able to regain control over himself.
Tumblr media
And that’s exactly what he does.  Not sure how he got his clothes back after he hulked out of them, but maybe the dragon gave him the Clothes Beam technique along with all the other upgrades.
And this brings me to the end of volume 18 of Dragon Ball Super.  Volume 19 won’t be published in English until September, and I don’t want to wait that long, so I guess I’ll have to find the next several chapters elsewhere. So hopefully I can pick this up tomorrow...
Tumblr media
Oh, right, Bardock.
So, Bardock showing up in this arc caused a lot of agitation in the fandom.  I think this was mostly because of lingering frustration with Dragon Ball Minus retconning all the Bardock lore from the 1990 TV special.  That, and there’s also a lot of Bardock Fatigue in the fandom, because the franchise has been shoehorning Bardock into every video game and merchandise possible.  For many, working him into the DBS manga was just another crass marketing ploy.
Also, chapter 77 marks the moment when Goku finally learns about his father, which is a big deal for the character, but a milestone like that is always going to be controversial, because there will be fans who think the series was better off when Goku didn’t know.  It’s like when Clark Kent told Lois he was really Superman.  You can’t unring that bell.
I... don’t particularly care about any of that.  For my part, Bardock’s a cool character, and I don’t mind seeing him or his cute wife.  Anything Toei or Shueisha does with Goku’s parents is a fair play in my book.  It’s no different from having Tien or Android 17 show up.  But there seems to be this special status that’s been assigned to Bardock, where he’s either too cool or too overexposed, and that makes him off-limits.  Well, I don’t buy into made-up rules like that.
I get the sense that there’s this edgelord contingent of the fandom that wouldn’t accept any version of Bardock short of him murdering Granolah’s mom and eating Monaito’s face or something.  I don’t understand these fans, because the “Father of Goku” special is just Bardock getting the shit kicked out of him from start to finish.  Tooru kicks him in the head, then he goes to Planet Meat and Dodoria beats him up, then he flies to Planet Vegeta and dies to Frieza.  How is this guy a badass?  Because he dominated Dodoria’s goon squad?  Well Guldo could one-shot all of them, so why isn’t everyone fawning over Guldo then?
People got mad because Bardock said “tummy”, which isn’t a very badass word to use.  You never hear Guldo say “tummy”, and he’s hard as nails.  My thing is, if you imagine Sonny Strait delivering the line in that cool voice he uses, it sounds a lot more natural.  Yeah, if he said it in the Krillin voice, it’d be goofy, which is why he doesn’t use the same voice for both characters.
I’d chalk it up to a translation issue, really.  I mean, it’s probably accurate, but the people at Viz should have used different wording.  Sometimes you have to punch up the dialogue, make it sound more like something Guldo would say.
The point I’m trying to make is that Bardock isn’t some sacred cow, and he’s also not a third rail that the franchise is forbidden from using.  Dragon Ball Super brought back the Mafuba and the Grand Supreme Kai and the guy Zarbon kicked on Namek.  Of course they were going to do something with Bardock.  I’m more surprised that they didn’t just have him time travel to present-day Earth and live in Goku’s house for a while.

ok idea i had i just wanted to put here to make it look like i have more ideas
after fixing up planet cereal and banishing all of the Two dragon balls on that rock to the depths Granolah and Monaito decide to head to earth to just have a new life and find more for themselves.
landing on the planet theyre greated by Piccolo instantly (who heard abt them from goku) and he offers to lodge them cuz hes like Damn…a namekian..hes kind of old as fuuck though so its like kind of weird just two random guys and grandpa hangingout next to piccolos plushie collection. granolah drinks too much water and throws up once
after a month or so granolah starts to wonder what itd be like to live in the city. Hed pass by the sugarians every time he visisted the city on planet cereal but he never really lived in a community like that. piccolo offhandedly mentions that krillin (gokus pal) lives there once it comes up in conversation. granolah is like woah a friend of the saiyans hm... maybe ill see what hes like
so they all visit krillins apartment randomly (just two dudes and grandpa) and monaito is obviously inspecting the apartments floorplan like wooahhh this is soo cool -looks at granolh with pleading old grandpa eyes- and granolah is like um can we live somewhere like this and piccolo is like Yes. Please leave my house.
there ends up being an apartment right next to krillins for rent so piccolo out of pocket pays for it (how does he have money) and now granolah and monaito ring their doorbell every single day and marron has a weird grandpa who likes to watch tv in their living room because granolah doesnt know how to interior decorate his own apartment

Monaito is practically gushing over Bardock. I wonder if he forgot that he helped slaughter the Cerealians and his fellow Namekians before having a sudden change of heart?

I dont really care but imma just make some guesses. The DBS manga isnt over yet and somebody shot Monaito. Who is it? Maybe...
7-3 (doubt it. Toyo seems to have dropped that "plot point" looooong ago)
Mercenary Tao (I'm joking)
Freeza (possible & probably most likely)
7-3 who somewhat resembles Freeza so that Vegeta or Granolah can be the one to finish him off (wouldn't put it past Toyo, but I doubt it)
7-3 who now looks like Bardock and now they have to fight against him (Goku vs his "father", Vegeta vs another "Saiyan" & "Goku", Granolah vs his "savior". Idk just something random but no way its happening)
Seems like whe have another 3 to 4 more months before this arc ends. Goku & the others randomly got fully healed for a reason. Its time for them to fight again.
The paneling & reaction shots of Monaito getting shot resemble Freeza killing Dende. And the way Monaito gets shot in the back is similar to how Goku got shot in the back in the RoF arc. So I wouldn't be surprised if it was Freeza.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm only throwing stuff out there to see if I get something right. I typed in an old draft back in 2018 that Vegeta would get "Wagamama no Gokui" then thought that was too silly & would never happen, so never posted it. Yet here we are with Ultra Ego. And that I also thought that English translation of it would be too dumb so I didnt say so either.
Tumblr media
So, let's see what sticks if I throw my random ideas. Tbh... It doesnt matter. I dont care for the DBS manga continuity.

I'm a Bardock stan so I keep hearing about this wish. Was it an actual DragonBall wish with Shenron or a looks to sky and quietly wishes thing? It sounds like the former. I feel like, and maybe I'm wrong, Bardock would have more confidence in his kids given he's a fairly strong guy himself? Regardless, I agree with a wish to Shenron devaluing everything.
It was a wish he gave to Monaito who had the Dragon Balls of Planet Cereal and had summoned the Dragon Toronbo. Monaito asked Bardock if he had a wish, and that was his reply. Right after, those Dragon Balls dispersed. The text later more or less confirms that the wish was indeed granted.

143° Resenha do dia Dragon Ball Super - Volume 18 . . So I’ve been thinking, and the whole trip to Namek was… kinda pointless. Kinda.
MASSIVE MANGA SPOILERS FOR POST TOURNAMENT OF POWER
Frieza would have slaughtered the planet, and thus would have gotten his wish. He doesn’t know about any other planets with dragon balls (I’ll touch on that one in a sec), so he gives up.
Goku asks King Kai if there are any other options, and they learn of planet Cereal. They travel there, and, since Granolah hasn’t made his future wish yet, he’s not (that much) of a threat.
Goku and, if he’s an ally, Vegita explain the context that Granolah’s missing, but it takes longer than the cannon story. However, since the Heeters aren’t attacking them, they aren’t even there), Monaito shows up, recognizes Goku as Bardock’s son, and validates what is being said.
From there, the Cerealian Dragon is summoned, and either brings everyone back, or just enough to make Namekian Dragon Balls, which bring back everyone. Maybe even the Cerealians, and a new planet for them?
Actually, this brings on Monaito and Granolah as allies, and while the latter isn’t as powerful as his cannon appearance, he still can grow, via power unlocks, training, forms, all that.
On the other hand, Frieza is still alive, and if Vegita isn’t an ally, he goes on his own and dies.
That being said, if he is an ally, Frieza gets wiped. He comes to Earth after learning of its Dragon Balls, and everything else plays out similarly. Krillin dies, Gohan is majorly injured, and Goku goes SSJ. However, Chi-Chi dies in the invasion.
This doesn’t have anything to do with Namek, rather just an idea I’ve always liked, but Vegita gets PISSED at Goku going SSJ, and manages it as well. Since Senzus are externally easy to get in this scenario, Gohan is brought back. And, if you remember the Cell Saga, rage empowers Sayains, particularly Gohan.
I suggest that Goku, Vegita, and Gohan all pull off SSJ, albeit with Gohan at a very minor scale. If you really want to go there, the circumstances are similar to Gohan’s SSJ2, but I don’t like THAT level of strength.
Frieza gets absolutely destroyed, the dragon balls being everyone back, much quicker this time because they have three sets, and everything is normal.
Also, I don’t see Granolah and Monaito do much, Granolah likely grows about as fast as Krillin does, and Monaito probably just vibes with Kami (or Dende).
Since the three sayians get SSJ this quickly, the rest of the story goes the same, only faster.

Meet Kenshiro, my Madness Sona.
He is a Rounin who wanders through Nevada, in search for battles, no matter how fierce these battles are. Kenshiro wields a Katana named Ariso Monight (pronounced as "arisou monaito" which is derived from "arisomonai" which means "improbable"). It's named like this because it contains the same power source as in the Improbability Drive. When in full charge, the blade summons a purple fire-like energy, which makes Kenshiro faster and nimbler temporary. As a wandering warrior, Kenshiro is often a lone wolf, but sometimes accepts the help of the good guys in battles

How Strong Is Black Frieza In Dragon Ball Super ?
Tumblr media
Spoiler: The spoiler has revealed the most powerful fighter of all time in the universe. Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87, titled Reveal the Greatest in the UniverseThe episode, which was released a few hours earlier, is called. The episode will not only be the end of the most powerful villain the saga has seen yet, but it will also divulge into Frieza’s new power. Since the raw scans for the episode came out, fans have been trying to guess identity of the mysterious figure who killed Monaito. Fans were not prepared for the chapter's contents, despite speculations and theories. Continue reading for more information about the spoilers released. Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87 and what looms in the franchise's future. Warning! This article contains spoilers to Dragon Ball Super Chapter. Frieza is who? Introduced in the early stages Dragon Ball ZFrieza is the franchise's most vile villain. This galactic tyrant was responsible to the destruction and subjugation of many planets, including Planet Vegeta. Goku reached the base level Super Saiyan during a fight against Frieza on Namek. This battle almost ended in their deaths. Future Trunks later killed Frieza. Despite this death, Dragon Ball Super In fact, the villain was resurrected by him and he received a new transformation called Golden Frieza. As the manga shows, Black Frieza is much more powerful than that form. At this point, it's unclear how Black Frieza will be incorporated into future stories or if it will be included in the anime. How Did Frieza Achieve His Black Form?  Frieza has returned with a new transformation. According to the manga, the tyrant had been training for ten years in a Hyperbolic time chamber that he found on a planet he conquered. He unlocked a brand new transformation called “Black Frieza.”  How Powerful Is Frieza Black? Credit – Twitter.com We believe that Black Frieza will pose the greatest threat to Z-fighters ever. Is there a greater threat to Z-fighters than Gas? Yes. In Dragon Ball Super chapter87, Frieza suddenly appears and kills Gas in one blow. He then kills Elec and reveals his new transformation, “Black Frieza.”  While the most powerful entities found no match to Gas’ powers, Frieza’s arrogance and excellence are enough to prove that he is now unstoppable. Furthermore, he defeats UI Goku and UE Vegeta with a single blow. What do you think of his power? He is a living beast now…  He Will Be the Main Threat To Dragon Ball Super Manga New Arc. Credit – Twitter.com You thought Frieza looked just like Vegeta after her Tournament of Power victory. No. He remains one of the Z-fighters' biggest enemies. We believe that he will continue to follow the dark paths and will be the biggest threat in the newarc. Are you ready for another bombastic arc? Comment below to share your thoughts.  How Strong is Black Frieza in Comparison to Other Dragon Ball Characters Black Frieza made quick work out of Gas upon his introduction. He was known to be powerful enough for both Vegeta (and Goku) to struggle when they were at their strongest. Black Frieza stabbed Gas through the chest using his hand and proceeded to crush his skull as the Heeter’s bones crumbled to the ground because his lifespan had already run out. It's worth noting that Gas was the strongest mortal of Universe 7 before Black Frieza arrived. He was far stronger than Granolah Goku and Vegeta. Both Goku and Vegeta have their Ultra forms, which are quite powerful and are probably strong enough for them to defeat Broly, who they couldn’t defeat using their Super Saiyan Blue forms. Remember, in DBS: Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan was basically toying with Golden Frieza, who himself was actually quite strong. In this regard, Ultra Instinct Goku & Ultra Ego Vegeta may be stronger than Legendary Super Saiyan broly, but they struggle against Gas shows that Black Frieza is far more powerful than the most powerful mortal in Universe 7. Black Frieza didn’t take too long to prove himself the most powerful mortal in the universe by knocking both True Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta with one blow to their respective abdomens. Black Frieza is the only character to have knocked out Vegeta and Goku simultaneously in their Ultra forms at this point in Dragon Ball's storyline. This is a sign that Black Frieza just reached a new level in power that Vegeta as well as Goku must reach if the tyrant wants to stop his evil plans. Is Black Frieza Stronger Than Goku’s Ultra Instinct And Vegeta’s Ultra Ego (Together)? While in their Ultra forms, Black Frieza is far more powerful than Vegeta and Goku. Although Frieza was able to knock them out quickly, it's possible that things could have been different if they weren't tired and weary. They might have fought a tough fight against Black Frieza together. Whis always suggested that Vegeta and Goku would have to learn to work together if they were to surpass Beerus. Black Frieza may be the perfect platform for them to learn how to properly fight in their strongest forms. Let's now take a look at the power of Black Frieza. Power Levels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIULxkpLaVo Black Frieza VS Goku & Vegeta All Forms Power Levels We were misled to believe that Goku had already revealed his Ultra Instinct in the Tournament of Power events. He was at the level of Beerus and even Whis. His power level far exceeded that of Super Saiyan Blue. He continued to refine Ultra Instinct until he was able to use it against Gas in the Manga's Granolah the Survivor arc. This allowed him to harness Ultra Instinct with greater clarity and efficiency in his movements. He was able to fight Gas for a while even though the Heeter was the strongest mortal in Universe 7. Vegeta had to catch up with Goku, however, because he wasn't the type of fighter and personality that Ultra Instinct needed. In the manga, Vegeta went through God of Destruction Training with Beerus. He was then able to unlock the Destroyer God form that he called Ultra Ego. Granolah was almost defeated in this form. Vegeta's Ultra Ego was supposed be the form that enabled him to be equal with Goku. However, Black Frieza was able to surpass the limits of his former form, Golden Frieza. He was able achieve this form by training in the HyperbolicTime Chamber for ten year. This training was what ultimately enabled him to surpass the power and might of the strongest Universe 7 mortal. Frieza's power level is quite different from Vegeta or Goku, as neither Vegeta nor Vegeta were able to beat Gas. Frieza is the clear winner of this round. His power level is likely closer to Beerus than any other characters. Saiyans 0, Frieza 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fjew9j57d7U Black Frieza New Form Explained Feats Goku has achieved many amazing feats with his Ultra Intelligence form. He also used Perfected Ultra Instinct in order to push Jiren to his limits during the Tournament of Power. Moro had his own Ultra Instinct. After defeating Moro in manga, Goku was able to unlock True Ultra Instinct. This is a derivative from his Ultra Instinct Sign. Gas was able to use this form to cause trouble even though the Heeter was the strongest moral in the Universe. Vegeta's Ultra Ego transformation, which he only was able to unlock during his battle against Granolah (who used to be the strongest Universe 7 mortal prior to Vegeta and Goku surpassed their limits), is still relatively new. Vegeta could push Granolah away and even make Granolah's other eye stronger. Granolah nearly used a suicide attack against Vegeta to defeat Vegeta, but Vegeta was still extremely powerful. Vegeta, who was able to work alongside Goku's powerful form, pushed Gas to death. Vegeta and Goku in their Ultra forms drove Gas to the edge of death, but it was Frieza who killed Gas with just a single stab through the Heeter’s chest. Black Frieza accomplished what neither Vegeta nor Goku could do. He defeated Gas and killed him with minimal effort. After revealing his Black Frieza form, he quickly defeated the Saiyans with punches in the gut. Frieza defeated Gas instantly without showing any signs of trouble, which is a feat neither Vegeta nor Goku could match at this stage in the storyline. Saiyans 0, Frieza 2 Fatigue Factor It's worth noting that Goku was already tired from fighting non-stop in the battle against Gas. In addition, the Ultra Instinct forms he assumed, including his True Ultra Instinct were draining his energy quickly. This meant that he was already tired and worn out when Frieza came to surprise him and Vegeta. Vegeta's Ultra Ego is held back by the fact that the Saiyan Prince doesn't care about getting hurt while in Ultra Ego form. It is because he goes all out and has no reservations that he can bring out the best from this form. This simply means that Vegeta can take a lot of punishment in his Ultra Ego form. He could also impose his own punishment. His body was already very worn and tired by the time he met Black Frieza. Essentially, he was fresh as a daisy when Frieza appeared in the Granolah the Survivor Saga to spice things up. This means that he was well rested and had plenty of stamina. It's worth noting that stamina is a big factor in Dragon Ball. Goku in Super Saiyan Blue was able to push Jiren back with Frieza's help, even though he couldn’t hurt him. Given that Frieza was still quite young when he arrived, it was very easy for him bully Gas, Goku and Vegeta. Although we know that Black Frieza is stronger than Vegeta and Goku, it's possible that things would have been different if he had fought them while they were at their maximum strength. While it is possible that Black Frieza might have won the fight, we cannot be certain until we see Vegeta and Goku well rested fighting the evil tyrant. Saiyans 0, Frieza 3 Black Frieza is stronger than Goku's Ultra Instinct and Vegeta's Ultra Ego. It is obvious that Black Frieza can defeat both Vegeta and Goku while they are in their Ultra forms. When Frieza quickly defeated a dying Gas (who Vegeta and Goku couldn't even defeat), it was obvious as day. The tyrant then knocked out the Saiyans with one punch. Whis had told Goku and Vegeta that they must learn to work together if they are to defeat Beerus. It doesn't matter if he meant to say that they would work together, or if they mastered the art of fusion, there is a chance that Goku & Vegeta could match Black Frieza in battle. Also, Goku just learned True Ultra Instinct and Vegeta just unlocked Ultra Ego. Golden Frieza was once told by Goku that they had to learn the form before unlocking another form. This is because it is important to keep your stamina high in such powerful transformations. Given that Vegeta and Goku have yet to master the new transformations, it's possible they will end up fighting Black Frieza. Black Frieza vs Jiren Who Would Win ? Frieza worked hard for ten years to build his strength and be able to outmatch the Saiyans. You will recall that Frieza did not give training much importance in the past. Jiren has been training for many recent Dragon Ball Super manga story series. Black Frieza might be the strongest right now in the Dragon Ball Super world, but Jiren vs Black Frieza could bring down Frieza’s ego a notch… and you just know Goku and Vegeta will be itching to train and figure out yet another new level of transformation power to achieve! “Oh yeah, good call.  Hey, son.  I got worked over pretty good.”
Tumblr media
Currently, Goku and Vegeta are trying to stop Gas, who became nearly invincible thanks to a wish on the Dragon Balls.  Their only chance is that Bardock once fought Gas before, and as Goku listens to the audio recordings on Bardock’s old scouter, he suddenly has a recollection of his infancy on Planet Vegeta, up to and including the moment when his parents shot him into space.
That scene is shown in here as well, but I think I like the above page the best, where baby Kakarot was just watching his mom putter around the house throughout the day.  He didn’t see much of his family while he was in the incubation tank, but he saw some, and now he finally remembers it.
Tumblr media
You might think the Bardock audio would be useless, since it didn’t provide any special insights into how to defeat Gas, past or present.  Bardock just hung in there and kept sluggin’ away until he won.  But that’s actually exactly what Goku needed to hear.  As Whis tried to explain to Goku earlier, the key to mastering Ultra Instinct is not to devise some cool new transformation, or to imitate Whis’ angelic calm.  Goku has to be himself so he can find his own path to Ultra Instinct mastery.  Hearing his father’s voice, talking about victory and survival above all else, that reminds Goku of who he is, and who he’s always been.
And Vegeta needed to hear it too.  He had been trying to use Destruction energy like Beerus, who had advised Vegeta to cast aside his guilt over the sins of the Saiyan people.  Now he’s finally figured out how to do that properly.  Before, he was just acting like he no longer cared about the Saiyans’ crimes.  Now, he finally accepts that their crimes are not his responsibility.
Tumblr media
So when Gas finally returns to Planet Cereal to settle things, he finds Goku and Vegeta are ready for him.  This time, they fight him together, and their Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego forms are much more focused than before.
Tumblr media
Elec tells the Heeters that he expected something like this, and it doesn’t matter that these two power-ups gave Granolah some trouble, since Gas is stronger than Granolah.  But Goku and Vegeta don’t give a fuck.  Screw the odds, they just want to kick some ass.
Tumblr media
Let me skip a bunch of this fight.  I feel bad about doing that, since the action sequences are probably the best feature of Toyotaro’s art.  But I’m here to talk about the plot first and foremost.  Basically, Vegeta sets up a beam struggle with a big Hakai blast, and while Goku pushes it, Vegeta tries to flummox Gas at the same time.  It doesn’t quite work, but Vegeta still manages to hang in there, because Ultra Ego feeds on the damage Gas dishes out.  So it becomes a question of whether Gas can take down Vegeta before he surpasses Gas in power.
Tumblr media
Gas tries to solve that dilemma by killing him all at once, but good luck one-shotting Vegeta.  Of course, eventually Vegeta does fall, because Gas hits like a speeding truck, and Vegeta can only take so much punishment.  But while he’s fighting Gas, it gives Goku a chance to figure out how to optimize his UI.
Tumblr media
I should really write about this in a separate post, but it seems like Goku is just sort of inventing a new form specifically for the way he plans to use Ultra Instinct here.  With the silver-haired form, he could use it well, but it only lasted so long, and he had to keep his emotions in check.  Now, he’s using this other version that looks pretty close to his base form, but he can use his turbulent emotions and Ultra Instinct at the same time.  And this freaks Gas out, not because of Goku’s methodology, but because the result has him looking a lot like Bardock did right before he kicked Gas’ ass forty years ago.
Tumblr media
To be clear, Goku always looks like Bardock all the time.  The resemblance isn’t what got in Gas’ head.  It’s the confidence Goku found in this moment, where he’s totally in synch with who he is and what he’s trying to do.
Tumblr media
By contrast, Gas had some pride in himself as a warrior, but all he ever does is what Elec tells him to do, in the name of some grander agenda for the Heeters, which I doubt Elec has ever deigned to explain to him.  And that plan involved Gas surrendering his warrior pride to get a boost from the Dragon Balls, so his morale is shot, even if he won’t admit it.
Tumblr media
Sure, Gas may be stronger than Goku... no, wait, maybe he’s not.  As Goku fights, he seems to get just a teeny edge over Gas.  It’s not much, and it won’t last long, but it’s just like Vegeta warned Granolah earlier.  The rankings don’t mean much in the long run.  Strongest, second strongest, it all changes with the weather.
Tumblr media
But then Elec gives Gas another scolding/pep talk, and that reawakens Gas and he starts to fight even harder.  Also his body looks messed up.  Macki and Oil begin to get concerned, even as Gas seems to have Goku on the ropes.
Tumblr media
But then Granolah shows up to make the save.  So somehow, Monaito managed to heal all three of them up during the 20 minutes while Gas was away.  That’s not hard to believe, except Monaito kept complaining about how he could heal people very fast, and now he seems to be improving.
Anyway, Goku agrees to keep Gas busy while Granolah charges up his full power for a single attack.  You know the drill.
Tumblr media
Goku has trouble, but fortunately, Vegeta gets a second win and helps buy more time.  Then Oil and Macki try to jump in but Monaito stops them... with the power of hypnotism!  Well, whatever works.
Tumblr media
But it still isn’t quite enough, so then Goku activates his Stand, or whatever that giant Goku thoughtform is supposed to be.  It’s the same thing he used against Moro, so I guess it makes sense.  Anyway, he grabs Gas and chucks him into the sky so Granolah can get a clear shot, and Oatmeel helps him aim, since his eyes are still hurt from before.  The power of teamwork!
Tumblr media
Granolah fires, and it looks like one of those classic anime blasts where the bad guy disintegrates into nothing, but instead Gas falls back to the ground, and Granolah explains that he didn’t kill him, because he’s decided to forsake revenge.  Then he apologizes to Goku and Vegeta for the trouble he’s caused them, and it looks like that just about wraps things up....
... or does it?

O novo instinto de Goku - Dragon Ball Super 85
Tumblr media

I really wish Whis would stop intervening. Monaito should have stayed dead. “Neutral” my ass.

[Wow. How convenient.
I’m still not convinced Monaito is a villain somehow. First he was being very selective with who he healed (and I know it was because they wanted that pointless moment with Vegeta giving the Senzu Bean to Granoalah and blah blah blah) and now this? Sus, old man. Very sus.]
