Corpse Queen
For over 100 years Morrigan Letum Balor, watched over and served the small quiet village that had sprung up near her forest home. It had been nearly 200 years since the kingdom she once served had fallen into antiquity. This new life, was all that she wanted...
The Brotherhood attacked razing the village and slaughtering to the soul everyone who dwelt there. It was done to save their souls, from her supposed corruption... her vengeance was as swift as it was brutal. But even as powerful as she was, she was but one against armies of fanatical followers.
With her phylactery shattered, and having suffered a mortal wound, she vanished into an abandoned mine... to work her final magic.

Jaune had run from Beacon. For weeks now, the feelings of helplessness and uselessness built upon themselves, as did the apparent apathy of his friends to his suffering. So hours later, cold and alone he wandered trying to figure out what was going on with his mind.
None of the recent weeks made sense. Especially now that he was away from everyone. It was if a fog had been lifted from his mind. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw what looked like an injured little girl near the back of an alley. Noticing no one else doing anything he entered the alley and moved towards huddled figure.
A pain blossomed in the center of his chest, and slowly he sank to his knees as a sadistically twinkling pair of heterochromia eyes started into his own...

“Well, we still have other options.” Morrigan offered.
“Like?”
“I transfer myself into a fresh corpse, or a living body without a soul, and then resurrect you as I did Neo.” Morrigan informed Jaune. “Or I can exorcise you while also empowering you with the abilities of being able to become corporeal and interactive with the world about you.”
“Is that it?”
“I can transfer your soul into …” Morrigan stopped talking, as an annoyed look crossed her face. “I shall return.
“Wait!” Jaune shouted, a second too late, as she vanished completely, leaving him alone in the stonework room looking at an empty throne.
/==/
“Who the fuck are you and what the fuck are you doing in MY house?” Roman shouted as he leveled his weapon, Melodic Cudgel, at the seated form of Morrigan, who glared at him. “Hey, don’t ignore me… what the fuck!”
Roman dove out of the way as a barrage of bone colored spikes. Roman rolled to the side and then dove in the opposite direction as more spikes flew at him, embedding themselves into the walls. Drawn by the shouting, Neo bust from her room.
“WAIT!” Neo shouted as she charged forward to put herself between Roman and Morrigan. “STOP!”
“Neo, get the bitch!” Roman screamed as he used his cane to deflect one of the spikes
“STOP!” Neo shouted again as he moved to intercept a spike that she knew Roman wouldn’t be able to dodge.
“NEO!” Roman screamed in terror, and despair as he watched her be impaled through the stomach and then pinned to the wall. Whipping about, Roman leveled his weapon as the rising figure. “I’m going to…”
“STOP IT!” Neo screamed in a bloody spray. “STOP IT NOW!”
“Neo?” Roman stammered as he looked at his partner in crime.
“Why?” Morrigan asked as a dozen glyphs appeared about her, a bone like spike protruding from each.
“This is his house, and he’s my partner.” Neo gurgled out. “This hurts.”
Morrigan nodded, and with a flick of a finger caused all the glyphs, and previously fired spikes to vanish. Which caused Neo to collapse to the floor. Roman was in complete shock for many reasons. One Neo being able to speak. Two, being able to do that after being impaled. Three her standing up as the hole in her gut closed, and four, the strange boy who had been firing off all those spikes.
“What is going on?”
“I was in the middle of an important meeting.” Morrigan replied, “and you interrupted it. I am Morrigan Letum Balor, and you are?”
“I… I… what is going on?”
“It is customary to introduce yourself when asked your name, and considered rather rude when one refuses to do so.”
“I… I’m…” Roman shook his head, adjusted his tie and faced Morrigan. “Roman Torchwick, Gentleman Thief.”
“Well, Mr Torchwick, I have a conversation to finish. I will return, and then we can speak, and I will answer any questions that Neo is unable to.” Before Roman could say another word, Morrigan returned to her original spot, and closed her eyes.
“Neo?” Roman turned to look at Neo. His eyes wandered from her, to the blood smear on the wall behind her, and then back to her petite form. “You can speak now? How?”
“Morrigan fixed my throat when she raised me from the dead.”
“Say that again?” Roman asked, his eyes blinking rapidly in disbelief. “Did you say you were resurrected?”
“Yes. I’m a zombie now.”
Roman’s mouth opened and closed without a sound, before he began to weave on his feet, before his eyes rolled up in the back of his head, and he collapsed.
“Roman?”

So I am planning out the next few chapters... and I have a little question for those of you who are enjoying the story. I am planning on "resurrecting" Jaune, but I'm not positive how I should do it. I have some ideas are they are listed below, so if you have a spare moment, and would like to help shape the story please offer some feedback.

Neo was unsure of what to do. Right after bringing, Blondie back to the safe house, he proceeded to sit down with his back against a wall, and close his eyes. A Purple circle surrounded him shortly thereafter. So that left Neo with nothing really to do. She was promised answers after Blondie has a rest, so until he woke up, she was on her own.
She considered having something to eat, but didn’t really feel hungry, so she sat on the couch and stared at the TV. Neo hadn’t even turned it on, and just sat there, at least, for two minutes before hopping up and rushing to her private room. Closing and locking the door, she then moved over to her bed. Lifting the corner of her mattress, she pulled out her secret prized possession.
An autographed copy of Weiss Schnee’s last album. Putting the CD into her player, she turned up the volume and forwarded through the various songs until she found her favorite. “Mirror, Mirror” flowed out of the speakers, and Neo closed her yes letting the music flow over her… and then she did something she had only dreamed of. She began to sing along.
/==/
“I still don't believe it.” Jaune moaned as he dropped his face into his hands. “I was trying, really trying, and then…”
“Death comes to everyone, many when they least expect it.” Morrigan, “What is the puzzle in all this is WHY you were killed, and also WHY when I took control of your body your soul was drawn back into it.”
“Why does it matter? My life had gone to shit, and now it’s over.” Jaune sniffled, the weight of everything crushing down on him, breaking any inner strength he had held on to. “The fog was lifting, and I was thinking of returning to Beacon… and then this.”
“Fog? Explain?”
“While I was walking around, trying to decide what to do… things began to become clear again… like less fuzzy and more in focus. I was seeing things and feeling strange about what I was trying to remember.”
“And what were you trying to make sense of?”
“Why I walked away from Beacon. I knew I was weak, but I wanted more than anything to be a huntsman. To help people, and be a hero… and I just throw my team and my chance away?” Jaune replied, as he looked up from his hands, with red rimmed eyes. “It makes no sense… just as puzzling was how my friends were acting.”
“How was that puzzling?”
“They were acting, I don’t know… apathetic to me… when they never had before.”
“I see.” Morrigan reached up and tapped her left index finger against her plump lips. “Tell me. Are there individuals with magic, or supernatural powers in this world?”
“Well, magic… no, but Huntsmen and Huntresses have Aura which is used to power semblances. I guess you could call that… supernatural.”
“I see.” Morrigan rose from her seat and descended the steps from the raised area she had been seated upon. She approached Jaune and using a single finger raised his head to look into her black eyes. “There seems to be many questions surrounding you, Jaune… and I would like answers to them… however…”
“However?” Jaune asked.
“We need to decided what to do about our current situation. While we can share this body, in time my soul would subsume yours, and you would cease to be.” Morrigan removed her finger from under his chin. “Though that would take years… I would much rather have you move on, but there are other options.”
“Like?”
“I locate another fresh body near death, and either transplant your soul or mine into it.” Morrigan tapped her lips while she considered options. “I could also find a suitable host and rip their soul free, and take over.”
“No! You can’t!”
“Why? It would solve…”
“No! It’s bad enough you took my body, I’m not allowing you to just take someone else’s!”
“It is of no…”
“I said no! I may not have a choice in the matter, but this is my body, and I’m not letting you do that!”

“Talk?”
“Yes, Jaune. We need to talk. You must have noticed the uniqueness of your situation.” Morrigan raised her hands, motioning to the room that the pair of them occupied. “And I have the answers you seek, even if you do not know the questions to ask.”
“What happened to me?” Jaune blurted out, as the jumble of images flooded his mind.
“You were murdered.”
“How? What? Why?”
“You were stabbed through the chest a little under two hours ago.” Morrigan replied, her hands returning to her lap. “The wound was instantly fatal, and you perished. As to why, I do not know… yet.”
“What do you mean… yet?”
“I… punished the one that had done the deed, and now she is under my sphere of control… to a point.”
“Huh?”
“I killed her, and then resurrected her as a zombie.” Morrigan replied in a very manner of fact tone.
“That’s… that’s not possible!”
“Oh, it is very much in the realm of possibility with my powers.”Morrigan lifted one of her hands and pointed at Jaune, “You are a perfect case. Just before I died, my final death in my age… I cast a reincarnation spell… which put me into your body. If anyone were to look upon me, they would see you in picture perfect health.”
“WHAT?”
“It is a rather simple concept to understand, well it is for me.” Morrigan commented in response to Jaune’s shout. “I spent 500 years perfecting my craft,  after all.”
“What craft lets you do such a thing? This makes no sense!”
“I am, what would be the term in this world? I was a Death Mage in my own world and time, but I guess from your memories the best comparison in your language would be Necromancer.”
“That’s not a real thing!” Jaune was getting more and more confused and agitated. None of this was making a lick of sense to him. “That is only in video games! Being able to raise corpses isn’t possible!”
“I’m sorry, Jaune. It is very much so… at least for me.” Morrigan, “The real question is why you are still here. Why your soul is still encased in your body, considering…”
“Considering?”
“That you had died.” Morrigan replied. “Your soul should have moved on, prior to me taking control of your corpse. So you still being here is… concerning.”
“This… this can’t be happening.” Jaune felt panic building inside his chest.
“Calm yourself Jaune. There are options.” Morrigan gestured with her hand, and behind Jaune a chair similar in design to hers rose from the ground, although this one was completely made up of bones. “Have a seat. We have time to discuss things, and I will do my best to explain things.”
“I still can’t believe all this… especially the part that I was murdered. Why? What did I do?”
“I have yet to find out the reason, but I will discover it. That I will promise you.” Morrigan responded as Jaune took a tentative seat upon the chair she created for him. “What we need to decide is how we proceed from here.”
“What do you mean?”
“The two of us in this body… is not optimal.” Morrigan answered. “It would have been much better for you to have passed in to the next life, prior to me… taking control.”
“Next life?” Jaune thought to what he guessed were his last moments. “I was moving towards a bright light… and then I felt like I was pulled back and was suddenly surrounded by darkness.”
“Interesting. You were indeed making the passage to the next life… but why would you be pulled back once I took over your corpse?”
“Can you not say that?”
“Why? It is the truth.” Morrigan replied. “I can not possess the living, so for me to inhabit your body you had to be a corpse. What is concerning is why your soul was pulled back from crossing over.”

Corpse Queen (v1-1)
/== Table of Contents ==/
Jaune felt wet, warm and cold all at the same time. His breathing was difficult, and his vision was getting darker. He didn’t understand, truly, what had happened, but he had a feeling that all his dreams were about to end. His body grew limp, and he fell to the side, his eyes still open, blood dripping from the corner of his agape mouth, as he tried in vain to keep breathing.
Jaune had no idea what to do, and the last thing he could remember seeing before his vision failed was the face of the young woman that had stood there smiling at him in silence. His final thought just before everything faded away… “She’s pretty…”
/==/
Neo gently prodded the body before her, with the toe of her boot, making sure to not get any blood upon them. There was no response. She did it once more just to be sure. Her strike with Hush had been true, sinking into her target’s chest easily.  She actually felt slightly bad about this job, not enough to have her not do it, but bad enough that she made it as quick and painless as she could.
Why fire-bitch would want this kid dead, she didn’t understand, and to be honest it didn’t matter. The job was done, and after an hour, she would drop an anonymous tip to the VPD with the body’s location. It was the only other thing she could do for the poor guy, and if he was lucky, he had family to take him home. Cloaking herself in her semblance, she skipped out of the alley, and made her way to the ice-cream shop across the street. Everything went so smoothly, that she felt like treating herself.
/==/
“Did… did it... work?” Morrigan gasped out as she opened her eyes. She flinched in the light and then grunted due to a pain in her chest. Looking down to assess the damage, she paused, and blinked. “Seriously?”
With a groan, she rolled over her new body, and forced it to stand. Stumbling over to the nearest wall, she made her new body grab hold and brace, as she began to search through her new vessel's memories. She needed to gain an understanding of where she was. Her quick glance at her surroundings told her she was in a much different place than her home.
“So it worked…” she looked at the male hand before her. “In a fashion.”
Making her new form stand straight, she had him rolled his shoulders, before taking another look around. She tried to pull from her vessel’s memories, but it was slow, and disjointed. His recent death causing significant interference. Finally having full control, she moved his body out of the alley into the crowded sidewalk. Turning to the left, a reflection caught her attention.
“He is boyishly handsome, and seems to be in decent shape.” She talked to herself in a voice that was not her own. “It could have been much worse. This will do until I… can I help you?”
Morrigan looked down to her right after feeling her new body being poked in the side. Just to her right she saw a young woman, a rather shapely young woman, with pink and brown hair, with some white streaks.
“Well?” Morrigan waited, and waited some more. Crossing her arms over the chest of her new body, and giving the short woman a glare. “I have things I need to be doing, so if you would please… tell me what you want or walk away.”
The smile the woman gave her, made Morrigan react instantly.  A thin blade slicing the air where her heart used to be.

Corpse Queen (v1-4)
/== Table of Contents ==/
“A Zombie. A reanimated corpse.” the boy’s grin grew slightly more sinister, “More importantly… you are MY zombie.”
“No, that… that’s not possible! Zombies aren’t real.”
“Really? Then how do explain your current situation?” the boy asked. “I would love to hear how you rationalize everything you have just experienced.”
“I… I…” Neo’s eyes narrowed. “You only knocked me ou…”
Neo looked down at the massive hole that had been punched through her chest. Behind her, embedded in the wall, was an unrealistically sized knife. Neo looked up at the boy, a purple sigil glowing near his right hand. She wanted to scream at him, but she couldn’t draw any breath.
“So explain that.”
Neo looked down again, and watched with horrific fascination as her body knitted itself back together. It took about two minutes, until the only evidence that she had been injuries was some blood stains on her ruined jacket and shirt.
“So if you are done trying to deny me, I would like to know who you are.”
“Neo.”
“Your true name.” the boy asked, his tone taking an annoyed tone. “Don’t make me punish you again.”
“Trivia. Trivia Vanille.”
“Thank you. Which name would you prefer I refer to you as, Ms Vanille?”
“Neo.”
“Very well. I need a place, safe and quiet, to rest in. Do you know of such a place I can use?”
“I have a safe house, a few blocks from here… I guess I can take you there.”
“Please, and once we are there I will answer any questions you have, after I have a short rest.” The boy commented.
/==/
Jaune was confused and beyond scared. He held his hands against his chest as he wandered the darkness the surrounded him. Nothing made sense, there had been pain, warmth and then utter cold. He could recall the smile and her pretty face, but it caused him fear every time he recalled it. Then of course there was this inky, oppressive darkness he found himself surrounded by. It didn’t make any sense. After the coldness, he had seen a bright light. It drew him towards it, then something ripping him from its embrace, plunging him into this place.
“Where am I?” he talked to himself, trying to ease the sense of loneliness that pressed down on him. “Hello? Is anyone out there? I’m lost, and need help!”
Like every other time he tried, all he received in response was eerie silence. Not even an echo returned to his ears. So, keeping his hands against his chest, he continued to wander, hie blue eyes straining to see even the faintest of shapes in the emptiness he found himself trapped in.
How he found something to trip over in a vast empty space, Jaune had no idea, but like everything else in his reality it just fit with his shit luck. Pushing himself up off his face, he noticed his hands were pressed against cold stone work. This wasn’t here before, he was sure of that. Rising to his knees, he looked about and found that instead of empty darkness, he was now in a sort of room of some type. Braziers burned, casting flickering light as they hung from chains.
“I must apologize, for taking so long to reach you.” the voice was feminine and had an ominous but friendly tone.
Jaune looked up and he wanted to scream. The pale skinned, dark haired enchantress that was addressing was seated upon a throne with skulls piled around it. She was beautiful, but her just sitting there amidst such macabre objects showing complete disinterest in them, was making things hard for him to rationalize. He was under the impression that he was maybe in a coma… but now…

“It is rather rude to not introduce yourself.” she commented, “And as I have also been rude, allow me to give you my name. I am Morrigan Letum Balor, and who might you be?”

“Well pleasure to meet you Jaune… we have much to… speak about.”

Corpse Queen (v1-3)
/== Table of Contents ==/
Morrigan moved her new body forward, and examined her handiwork. The assassin was no longer a threat. Skewered through the gut and pinned to a brick wall by a massive skeletal claw. She waited, letting her vessel’s heart rate slow, before motioning for the claw to with draw and vanish. She stood there looking down upon the now lifeless corpse, her pink and brown eyes void of light.
“It is a shame.” she once again spoke in a voice that was not her own. “That you did not listen… but I will give you another chance… to make amends.”
Bending down and dipping her fingers into the growing pool of blood, she began to write archaic symbols upon the corpse’s face. While the fine motor control was still sluggish, Morrigan was able to complete the required blood etchings. Summoning another skeletal hand, she had the body moved out of the pool of blood, and placed in a much cleaner space.
“When you awaken, your body shall be mended.” a sigil of purple highlighted by black flames  appeared beneath the body. She watched as the gapping wound in her torso slowly began to close. The flesh and penetrated organs rebuilding themselves, before her eyes.
“Good, you are awake.” Morrigan spoke, as the young woman’s eyes fluttered open.”I have questions and you will answer.”
Neo’s body felt cold, and stiff. Her mind cracked and almost shattered. She could still remember those last few moments. The pain and the helplessness as the cold claimed her. She looked about and focused in on the voice. A sliver of fear running through her as she understood now, that who she was looking at, wasn’t the person she had killed, before.
“Did you hear me?”
Neo nodded.
“Do not waste my time with childish games. Speak.”
Okay, that there just pissed Neo off. It didn’t matter how fucked up this situation seemed, she did not play some stupid kids game when it came to her talking. She couldn’t talk, that was the end of it. She sat up, giving the whoever the fuck he is or was a glare, and then stuck out her tongue.
“I see.”
“Ahhh! Stop! It hurts!” Neo screeched, as a set of skeletal claws erupted from beneath her and began to slowly squeeze. “Please! Stop!”
“Very well. Now tell me why did you kill this boy.”
“I was told to!” Neo gasped out before realizing that she just talked. For the very first time ever in her life, she just talked. “How? How can I talk? I was told I would never be able to speak. Ever!”
“Humph.” the boy snorted. “Do you think my powers are so limited that I couldn’t rebuild your broken body? That I would overlook such an easy to remedy affliction?”
“You? What… what happened?”
“You and I played a game of death… and you lost.”
“But… I’m…”
“No, you are not.”
“I?”
“You are not alive, yet you are not truly dead either.” the boy crossed his arms over his chest. “I mended your body, and pulled your tainted soul back from the edge of the abyss.”
“I don’t… understand.”
“Let me think… I believe the closet concept this world has is… yes, that would be a fitting description.” the boy gave Neo a slightly twisted grin. “You’re a zombie.”
“I… I… I’m a what?”
“A Zombie. A reanimated corpse.” the boy’s grin grew slightly more sinister, “More importantly… you are MY zombie.”

Corpse Queen (v1-2)
/== Table of Contents ==/
Neo was not one that usually ended up surprised, but she certainly was right now, several times over. Surprise one, was coming out of the ice-cream parlor and seeing her most recent victim standing like nothing happened, window shopping. Surprise number two was having her attack so easily evaded, but the final one that through her for a loop was…
“So you’re the one that killed the boy.” the boy said, which made Neo pause. That just wasn’t right.
Morrigan didn’t have time to fool around with this assassin, but she was also well aware that she really couldn’t use her powers in the open if she wanted to have a peaceful life once again. So she did what she felt was the most sensible thing to do. She turned about and walked off. Which was surprise number four, and Neo was currently having a bit of an internal crisis on what she should do.
Morrigan walked along trying to scour her vessel’s memories, but apparently seeing his killer had caused his mind to seize up and was making it rather tiresome to extract any information about where ever she was. She snorted, in frustration, and once again stopped him before a large storefront window. Looking at her reflection, which was of him, she decided to try something.
“It does work.” she whispered in the voice that was not hers, as the reflection turned from the boyish blond to her own image. Black eyes, pale skin and flowing raven hair. Turning from the reflective surface, she scanned the area. “How can a place that looks so peaceful contain so much death?”
All about, she saw them. Ghosts, spirits and shades filled the air. Some followed the living, others just drifted as if being carried on the wind. Even in the war torn last few years of her original life, she had never seen such a collection of souls. This both delighted her, and scared her. With this much spiritual energy floating about untapped, she could and would easily have access to all her spells. But what type of world was she in that lives could be discarded so easily.
“You are becoming an annoyance.” she hissed as she leaned back, avoiding Neo’s strike. “Leave me alone, girl.”
Neo was annoyed at the dodge, but now she was pissed. NO ONE called her girl! So she withdrew Hush and lashed out again, but it was a feint, and Neo quickly spun about, driving both of her heels into the boy’s gut, knocking him backwards onto his ass. Neo smirked as she landed on her feet and gave a little twirl. The shocked and angry look on Blondie making her feel much better about her current life choices.
Morrigan was now past being annoyed, but she was also a little shocked that no one was reacting to what just happened. She focused her gaze upon her attacked, as she made his body rise to its feet. The miasma of death that surrounded and coiled about the girl was impressive, and disturbing.  Morrigan knew if she delved into her spells, she could easily best this pest… but being so open about her powers, would not serve her true goal.
Keeping her eyes upon her would be killer, Moriigan walked into a nearby trash and refuse choked alley. Neo eyed her target and chose to follow. She had a job to finish.
Neo slowed her movements and began to scan her surroundings. Blondie had vanished from sight, but she doubted he had escaped. No, he was most likely waiting in ambush. Neo licked her lips, this was getting interesting. She ended up slightly disappointed when she found him just standing at the back wall, waiting for her.
“I’ll give you one last chance. Walk away, and let me be.”
Neo shook her head, gave Blondie a sinister grin, and activated her semblance. Confident in her illusion, she went straight in, leaping forward and chambering Hush for a strike to the throat. Then she felt searing pain. Hush was knocked from her grasp upon impact with the brick wall. Her eyes blinked in disbelief, and then her body went limp.
