The Outsider and Other Poems
By Mukut Borpujari The Outsider Memories are breathing down inside me now, everything slowing to the pace of a snail. Tiptoeing across the yard, the old cat watching— the pace too slow even for him. A crack in the earth opens, and roots rise up to trip me. Thirst lives in me, and the fear of thirst, solitude and the fear of solitude, death and the fear of death, though only it will silence me.…

Hark! The Dark One speaks of his most beloved:
O Meera! The bounty of love, the chalice of desire,
Why, pray, do you beg for the nectar from my lips?
Your words, through the centuries, have carried more nectar
Than could ever suffice inside this humble cowherd
Why then, must you await my footsteps
When your strains have brought milllions of them to my threshold?
O Devotee! Some may call you deranged, mistake your courtship for madness
But who else would give up the body adorned with jewels
Sitting on a throne, but the wisest of all?
Know this, Dear One,
that love that you wait on
the one needed to unfurl yourself,
is ever-present
sometimes beside you, sometimes inside you.

Happy shardiya navratri,
So the festive season has officially begun, huh.. where did the year go? Anyways we're not here for that.
I see everyone sharing their thoughts an excitement about navratri/Durga puja and i kind of want to share my own.
Navratri in my house is vastly different from that in Gujarat/west bengal/jharkhand, basically all the states popular for their loud and colorful celebration.
We dont necessarily play garba at nights or organise huge pandals for a community get together. I mean we do have pandals and all here, and people throng in huge numbers but it's not part of tradition. It's more of an acknowledgement to traditions of other states.
In fact my experience of Navratri is very different and subdued. Here, we get up early and we all feel the floral incense in the air, a little more than usual. You can easily hear people doing the path of Durga saptashati out loud, something we don't do normally (i mean the out loud part).
The atmosphere isn't loud but it's impactful.
The weather is a little more pleasant than it was on ganesh chaturthi. I specifically wait for the kirtan in a nearby temple, every evening, which is now a norm.
The idol of maa Durga is quite possibly the most beautiful. New lehenga for her, new bangles, new mukut,, everything changes but somehow the change feels more reassuring than daunting.
Personally I listen to Lalitha sahasranamam every day, if possible.
And it's just, it's a vibe that i can't possibly put in words but it's very specific to navratri.
We have a temple here called Tapeshwari devi and oh my god, once you step foot there you will change. The experience will imprint on your soul. I remember I went there a few years back for the first time, it felt as if I've gone back in time.. i wish I would get a chance this year, it seems highly unlikely but I'm hoping.
I know a lot of people don't believe that uttar kand was originally part of Ramayana but Tapeshwari devi is dedicated to maa Sita. It is said she and three other women used to sit the for their tap. There are four idols here and no one knows which one is of sita.
Then there is this 1700 year old temple with 12 idols. The story is something i don't understand.
What I'm trying to say is that we have several centres of spiritual significance, dedicated to divine feminine but somehow instead of going the way temples of Bengal did, the expression here became something else entirely.
Durga puja is a tapas for artisans and a place for community to collaborate and bond.
Navratri is here is not like that. Sure you will find a fair kind of setting outside the temples but it's not the same.
This has become the time to seek wisdom but on your own, in a way that might feel isolating. Instead of focusing a part of energy on epressig the devotion in beautiful artistic ways, that energy is directed inwards entirely.
Sigh. Anyways, my rant is not over I've just run out of words. || Masterlist || part 2

Cloth Prisoner
WIP Asks
Ooo this is more of an outline so, there’s only like 400 words written but I’ll just semi explain the WIP because it’s a half finished One shot and I might change any of this:
This is Human AU and takes place in Northern India on the Silk Road. In this story he’s Aditya, the king of a kingdom I hasn’t decided on yet but it’s near the Himalayas and has to exist at the same time as the Qing Dynasty.
Yao is a Merchant on the Silk Road and is trouble for trespassing (probably gonna change this). But he’s put on hold in a tent made of silky fabric and Persian rugs. He’s about to be tortured, or maybe he was but Aditya feels sympathy for the man because Yao’s young and didn’t mean to trespass (knows this due to talking to each other in simple Sanskrit).
He's held in this prison surrounded by guards at all times and Aditya visits him every day when he's free.
That’s the beginning outline the rest is under constant change because I’m not satisfied with the rest of the plot 😅
He could hear the sounds of men outside quite clearly, mumbling jumbled words that sounded awfully like Sanskrit. Similar enough he could understand tiny bits but different enough that he couldn’t tell what they wanted to do with him. He heard someone approaching him and turned his head to the side, two men with spears and shields entered. They stood apart from each other leaving a small amount of space at the tent flap where a third man entered, different from the others. Unlike the other men, he was equipped with clean clothes, had a gold crown known as a Mukut on his head and sported a rich black mustache and trimmed beard.
It was originally supposed to be for Whumptober and was going to have detailed torture so it was going to be longer but...we'll see where my brain takes it lol
