top films of the year!!!
tagged by @standardlovers <3333 who actually has like Film Opinions that don't revolve around how silly/sexy the films were but anyway here's my films...

i’m also gonna do some comments like teddy did bc i never know how to shut up ever so…
1. Point Break (1991), the film of all films, i think i rewatched it like three times this year, its my favourite film of all time, i never shut up about it, it literally has it all - surfing, bank robbery, skydiving, keanu reeves, patrick swayze, an excessive amount of deaths, rampant homoeroticism etc etc
2. Mickey Blue Eyes (1999), another rewatch, another banger, hugh grant is his typical bumbling englishman but this time it involved the mafia!! which i love, and manslaughter and the fbi and it’s a bit ridiculous which, of course, is a necessity
3. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), i said it on my letterboxd and i’ll say it again - there is NOTHING like the love between a man and his razor blades, also helena bonham carter is SO sexy as always and there’s a lot of fun murder, my only note would be that they don’t sing the ballad of sweeney todd, which is clearly the best song from the musical, but otherwise very enjoyable
4. My Own Private Idaho (1991), what was in the water for keanu in 1991?? bc honestly this film is incredible, the campfire scene broke me into pieces, humpty dumpty style, and i’m still not back together again, also there are excellent insults in this eg. you starfish, you vile punk etc so i loved it a lot, and river phoenix is brilliant, are you kidding me??
5. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), another keanu but this one is Overtly silly rather than just being silly by association (all keanu films are silly bc he’s a lovably awful actor but this one takes the cake), literally party on dudes like be excellent to each other, what more do you want me to say??
6. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), ohhh my god guys idk how i’d never watched this before but honestly just incredible, so so so SO good, my friends told me that i give riff-raff vibes which… i’ve chosen to take as a compliment bc after all… it’s astounding… time is fleeeting (picture me bursting into a choreographed musical number)
7. Dangerous Liaisons (1988), a banger, i watched cruel intentions like years ago but this is dare i say it… better??? there’s just something about a period drama that elevates everything, keanu was very sweet, i loved when he was all covered in blood and bedraggled, and just in general i love when women are evil and malicious
8. A Knight’s Tale (2001), this film was an experience… i do think it should’ve just been about the bros going on an adventure and doing a spot of jousting instead of having that romance plot which was kinda eh, but the soundtrack fucks and there were generally excellent vibes and heath ledger was fantastic
anyway that’s that i guess!!!
honourable mention for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) bc god that film goes so hard, and also But I’m a Cheerleader (1999) bc like come on now, need i say more??

Movies questions - 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 20
1. What is your current favorite film?
This is such a challenging question....i think petite maman is really high up there, and far and away the best movie ive seen in the past few years
10. What was the last movie you watched in theaters? What did you think of it?
I rewatched Barbie with my bestie when were hanging out recently. I thought it was a lot of fun and I love the soundtrack but I have a lot of fundamental issues with like. a toy corporation trying to sell the plot that they "solved" sexism to further their brand. i run into conflicts reconciling the fact that yeah maybe some people need a dumbed down hyper-feminized, hyper-capitalized version of faux feminism to get it even a little bit at all and thats okay with the fact that it didn't really say or do anything and in fact may have walked us backwards with understanding feminism with the fact that it was fun to watch margot robbie is hot and barbie land is cool looking
11. Has a film ever made you cry?
I cry at SO MANY movies. I recently cried during Theatre Camp AND Barbie. I like to let myself be moved and don't make any apologies. However nothing can ever beat the amount I cried in 2010 watching the opening montage of Up. That was fucked up, I was a kid, I didn't need that lol
12. Which movie has your favorite soundtrack?
i love the social network soundtrack, the juno soundtrack, and the barbie soundtrack looollll. big fan of scores in general though, those are just the first ones i can think of. in my house we have been singing "Camp isn't home" from theatre camp on a daily basis since we saw it several weeks ago so.
13. What is your comfort film?
i'd say my own private idaho or any of gregg araki's apocalypse trilogy. i just love them and have since i was 12ish
20. What movies do you have on your current to-watch list?
SO MANy, in fact, me and my bf have a list we work off of but keep adding at a pace its impossible to keep up. but heres a few i can think of off the top of my head:
-shiva baby
-old boy
-happy together

@reignoerme tagged me to put my 10 favorite movies so here i go (in no particular order!!). also these are 10 out of i don’t know how many movies i consider favorite ones but i have so many.
-dead poets society (1989): fave movie since i was 11 years old. changed my life in ways i can’t even express, i would need a whole essay to talk about it. i’ve rewatched it a million times, and every single time i find something new about it that stays with me. timeless. i adore it.
-little miss sunshine (2006): this is one of those movies that changed my life, again. the feeling it left me was just extremely beautiful. i’ve made so many people watch this because it’s just !!!!! i adore it.
-butch cassidy and the sundance kid (1967): this is like. the greatest thing ever. amazing in every sense. robert redford is pretty much my favorite human being and he SHINED in this, im obsessed (also paul newman ily). i think i know the entire script by heart at this point.
-paper moon (1973): funny. heartwarming. heart-wrenching. i had no idea what exactly this was about before watching it and it surprised me for good.
-mikey and nicky (1976): i’m obsessed with elaine may’s mind. first time i watched this i gotta admit, it didn’t do much for me, but then?? i found it absolutely amazing, a literal masterpiece.
-my own private idaho (1991): i feel like i’ve talked about this before, but this film!!!! i feel like it has been with my pretty much half of my life, even if i first watched it when i was around 18 years old. like, when i was about 12 i became obsessed with river phoenix, and pretty much started watching all of the movies i could find of his. and this i could never find (i was 12 so like. maybe that was for the best). but i always sort of knew i was destined to watched it, and once i did it surely stuck with me.
-alice in the cities (1974): when i first had to watch (parts of) this for class like four years ago it didn’t do much for me. and yet then i rewatched this during the pandemic and. oh my god. i felt like i had been looking for a movie that made me feel like that for my entire life.
-the way way back (2013): dumb funny movie that meant the world to me when i was 14 and miserable, just like the protagonist. i rewatched it a couple of weeks ago and it made me so extremely emotional i went to bed crying. watching it for the first time was an experience i’ll never forget. truly made me feel much better about myself :’)
-real genius (1985): okay. another case of “this feels half like a warm hug and half like a punch in the guts” (which is like. the general pattern on this list. lately i’ve been going back a lot to movies that both break my heart and feel like a warm hug, at the same time, so there’s definitely a pattern here). i don’t even know why it breaks my heart but it does. it brings me some sort of nostalgia, like longing for something that i never had. i only watched it for the first time less than a year ago and have since rewatched it plenty of times. i feel like had i watched it at like fifteen i would’ve made it my entire personality
-lord of the rings (2001-2003): this is cheating but whatever. i will never forget the time my dad just told me “okay let’s watch lotr” and literally changed the course of my life. the return of the king was the first movie that made me cry, made me feel empty and also warmed my heart, all at the same time. still today i’d watch the ending and feel that knot on my throat that just. stays with me for a while. these movies are basically the reason i first thought “okay. i’d like to write/make movies someday”. i’ll love them forever.
im tagging whoever wants to do this ofc!! feel free to do so❤️

my own private idaho??
i love that movie!!! river and keanu are so young and sweet and it really captures that shakespearean tragedy of unrequited love and finding your place and your family. i feel like i have nothing to say about her that hasnt already been said i simply think about that funeral scene like once a week i need to rewatch her and cry
Put your favorite movie or director in my ask and I'll tell you what I think of it/them
