Most underrated snail?
Two of North America's largest land snails: Neohelix albolabris and Mesodon thyroidus
Everyone loves GALS because big but there's big snails right outside! go look!! The Mesodon is probably hiding in stinging nettle, so be careful

many of the large land snails with the ‘classic’ snail appearance that people see in north america are introduced garden dwelling species, but N. albolabris is a native species that’s most at home deep in moist forests where it feeds mainly on fungi.

@lindztxt submitted: Hi! I have some pet snails from my yard that I brought in to a lovely terrarium I am taking very good care of them! I am super curious though what kind of snail they are? I am in southwest missouri! If you need any more details about them let me know and if you have any links to resources for me to figure it out if you arent sure lemme know! I've tried the conservation department website with no luck. I also have videos but I didnt know if I can submit them. Thank you!!!

Hello! They look like either the eastern whitelip, Neohelix albolabris, or the white-lip globe snail, Mesodon thyroidus. They can be hard to tell apart, especially for me just based on these photos, but it’s somewhere for you to start at least! And please tell them all that I love them :)

what kind of snails do u have? how difficult is it to take care of them?
I have one Neohelix albolabris (snail native to my area) and four Helix pomatia (escargot snails) and I’ve had them for 2 years. One of them passed away this winter though unfortunately.
They’re very easy and affordable pets. Here’s a guide on keeping them.

Gaston is a Helix pomatia, an edible Roman Burgundy snail native to Italy and one of the most well studied snail species in the world. Teddy on the right is a Neohelix albolabris, a rare species of garden snail found on the east coast of the US and virtually ignored scientifically. I love my boys so much!!!!!!
