summary: what do you call the phenomenon, where you cannot control the longing in your eyes or the fire in your loins, where you consistently fall in love with someone every time you see them? as for neteyam, this someone is you. (proceed with caution, his thoughts are unhinged, 18+ mdni)

Being the son of the clan leader had its benefits, but it also came with its downsides. There was immense pressure to be the best in everything, pressure he put on himself, so much that for quite some time — too long for him to admit — he was accompanied by intense stress and sleepless nights. The days blended together, no longer offering a sense of overview, no longer dividing day and night for him. He was a breathing, working mess, alive but barely living, like the remnants of a walking corpse, whose reflexes still functioned. His body was accustomed to it, his strong physique, sculpted by years of discipline, was used to worse actually, but slowly the burden was taking its toll on his mind for he began to see things, hallucinating, as Lo'ak had called it. It had reached such dimensions that his father had sent him on forced leave, a decision that was infuriating in such critical times, but protest was not tolerated, because deep down Neteyam knew his father was right; some days — the most exhausting ones — it was difficult for him to distinguish his dreams from reality as it all blended together, and that was the last alarming sign for him to know he had to fix his work-life-balance, especially when it came to you.

The mere thought of you already numbed his senses, consumed him whole, so looking at you right now how you danced along with your friends, your body effortlessly swayed to the rhythm, accompanied by the traditional instruments, did things to him he did not dare to say out loud. There was an undeniable connection; he was longing for you, needing you in ways that couldn't be described. 

Watching you from afar as he leaned against a rock, originally trying to avoid the festivities following the victorious war party he hadn't been allowed to participate in, it was mesmerizing to him how you moved your hips with such sensuality, it took his mind to places. His eyes aglow like molten gold, were glued to your body, followed your every move, refused to leave your enchanting features even for a fleeting moment. The forest immediately dissolved around him into a big blur of dark green, slowly fading into a hushed background, leaving only you as the focal point of his existence, as if completely bewitched by your presence. And for the first time in his life, despite the unyielding strength he commanded in battle, he found himself powerless, absolutely disarmed and vulnerable against the allure you possessed.

He couldn't control the vivid imagines that flooded his mind in the next second when you bend down to gather the empty bottles from the ground so that no one would trip on them, his hidden wants messing with his reality in an instant. His hands on your waist, the rhythm of your bodies in perfect synchrony, the rolling motion of your hips against his, skin on skin, teeth clinking, lips smacking with each hungry kiss. He couldn't help but picture the way you'd respond to his touch, your soft flesh yielding by the firmness of his grip, your head thrown back in ecstasy, your eyes rolling in pleasure, the breathy moans escaping your lips like a siren's call, pulling him closer to you, deeper and deeper into the depths of desire. 

Wishful thinking. 

He knew that he couldn't resist the gravity of his passion any longer. With every breath, every beat of his heart, he discovered a truth — he was falling, falling, falling, and he couldn't deny it.

Neteyam's breath quickened even more when you met his eyes, only for a second before you quickly looked away, his heart pounded in his chest like the loud drums next to the table with drinks, as he fought to control the raw desire that surged within him. The fire in his loins burned brighter as he felt the energy radiating from you, a magnetic pull even, that defied reason, defied control, defied the chaos raging within him, that became a force he could not contain. And even if the yearning in his blood vessels and the longing in his eyes spoke volumes, his lips remained silent for he had not once dared to confess.

That was however until he heard your laugh a second later when one of your friends said something to you; the combination of eye contact and your melodic laugh gave him the courage to approach you, start a conversation, he had done it many times before, so he could do it again, he was good at small talk, he was Neteyam, it was nothing but child's play for him, he would talk to you and— 

"Does Neteyam have any idea how ridiculously gorgeous he is?"

His heart skipped a beat as he overheard your words, spoken with a touch of wonder and followed by a dreamy sigh. The corners of his mouth curled into a soft smile, and his cheeks felt warm as he chuckled to himself, shaking his head slightly. He had never imagined that you would see him in such a light, let alone voice it aloud. It filled him with pride, and he couldn't help but feel a mix of joy and disbelief that he quickly hid with his newfound confidence as he walked the last steps to approach you.

"Well," he said with a playful smile on his lips, "I wouldn't say ridiculously gorgeous, but I do try my best."

Immediately, your eyes grew wide as you opened your mouth to say something but then closed it again, and he thoroughly enjoyed observing the play of expressions on your face. He felt great, his self-doubt vanished in an instant, it was as if a veil had been lifted, revealing a version of himself he had never fully embraced before. With his arms crossed in front of his chest and a smug grin on his face, he watched your every move, every flick of your gaze, every tremble of your finger, the color of your cheeks slightly darker than the rest of your skin, every subtle gesture teased his imagination, fueling his fantasies, like your eyes, big and beautiful, a mix of innocence and surprise in them, he couldn't help but imagine the taste of your lips as you nervously licked over them, those lips, oh, those lips looking as sweet and plump as… he gulped and reminded himself to get it together.

And when you turned around, away from him, without any word, quickly leaving the celebrations, vanishing between the thick leaves of pandora's flora, he kept staring at that place and he smiled, accepting the truth that could not be denied any longer: He was consumed by an insatiable hunger for you, a hunger that only you could satisfy, and he swore to himself, in that exact moment, that he would do anything — no matter the time and costs, even if it meant to put the night sky into chains and conquer all the stars — to make you his, for you were his star, his very personal wishing star.

Come with me on this journey okay:

-Stay-at-home-wheelchair-Dad Jake Sully babysits literally all children. His own, whatever fosters Norm has at the time, Tonowari’s, and Tsu’sey and Sylwanin’s. He is the babysitting and parenting God. 

-When they’re really rowdy he puts them all on leashes and has them pull him around the street yelling “MUSH, MUSH!”

-Eytukan is retired, so he helps Mo’at run her free clinic. Jake spends like all his free time there, “helping out” with his hoard of children. It’s really just a nice open area for the kids to play in, big fields and equipment in clear view while Jake helps with physical therapy.

-The clinic is where he and Neytiri met, he didn’t have the money for treatment on vet benefits after he was paralyzed in the marines so he ended up at the free clinic. Neytiri volunteers for her mother on the weekends, and she bullied him into enjoying life again. 

-Sylwanin and Jake are pretend frenemies, she pretends to hate him because he stole her little sister AND managed to get married and have kids before her and Tsu’tey who have been dating for like, their entire lives. Jake says it’s because they have yet to be blown up, and he can help her with that. 

-Every time Jake wheels his way in with all the kids Sylwanin goes “Oh, it’s you,” and Jake says “Yeah yeah, just your brother in law, not like I should get any respect around here,” and then he hands her her exact Starbucks order and offers to have Lo’ak throw up on her most hated patient. 

-(when he was little Lo’ak could throw up on command)

-Sylwanin loves all her nieces and nephews equally but she especially enjoys Spider, because before he was adopted he was in the clinic fairly often for suspicious injuries. She hasn’t shaken the urge to watch him like a hawk yet. 

-Eytukan and Jake are Boys in a way that disgusts all the women in their family. They go golfing together, and Eytukan accuses Jake of cheating via proximity to the ground.

-Lo’ak was DETERMINED to golf with them for years and when they actually let him come he cried he got so bored.

-Neteyam would never admit this under pain of death, but he enjoys golfing. 

-Spider, Neteyam, Ao’nung, and Lo’ak are all deeply obsessed with American Ninja Warrior, so Tonowari, Jake, and Tsu’tey built a course for them. They then started to get a little into it and it got serious. To this day out of everyone they know Jake is the only one to have completed the salmon ladder, and then he hauled himself off the mat and back into his chair and Tonowari and Tsu’tey had to reconsider their sexualities. 

-When Kiri, Lo’ak, Neteyam, Spider, and Ao’nung were all babies Jake went to the store with them all strapped to him or in a basket on his wheelchair and someone called the cops cause they thought he stole all those varying ethnicity babies. 

-Jake calls it The Great Baby Heist of 2077 and Tsu’tey always responds to this story by asking what idiot would want that many babies?

-Sometimes Sylwanin gets too friendly with Jake and quickly pretends to get mad at him. 

-Tonowari and Tsu’tey became friends by both being confused as hell by their friend Jake. When they met him he was all depressed and rotting away alone in the free clinic. Now he’s so high energy he raced Lo’ak once and threw himself out of his chair to get extra momentum to beat Lo’ak over the arbitrary finish line. He had a pool installed for Kiri to just float in and stare at the sky. He bakes cookies with Tsireya balanced on his chair between his legs so he can help her crack the eggs. He beat Tsu’tey in a wrestling match in the gym the other day. His enthusiasm for life scares them, they spend a lot of time side eyeing each other behind him. 

-Sylwanin (secretly) likes Jake because he’s a good father and husband to her kids, and he’s funny and a good person, but she likes him even more for the energy he brings out in her husband. Tsu’tey is NOT GOOD at making friends, he’s awkward and he’s a weirdo. But now he plays tennis twice a week with Jake, Norm, and Tonowari and spends like every evening she has to work at the Sully house for dinner.

Lo’ak & Neytiri

I often see posts from people claiming Lo’ak is exactly like Jake and he’s Jake’s mini-me and it’s not that I disagree with this, exactly, but I disagree with the evidence people use on why they’re similar.

I would argue that Lo’ak’s “hot” anger and impulsiveness is exactly like Neytiri, not Jake. 

Jake is shown throughout both films to be calm and even-tempered, with him not taking the bait even when Grace insults him to his face. It’s implied that his training as a marine has taught him to see even the most high-stress situations as problems to be solved rationally. It’s through this line of thinking that he’s able to humble himself enough to appeal to Tonowari, or see taming Toruk as just another challenge to undertake rather than a glory/honor to chase. He pushes away his emotions until after a fight and knows when to retreat. 

Neytiri, on the other hand, is as quick to take up Ronal’s challenge as Lo’ak is quick to take up Aonung’s. Remember the scene in Avatar 1 where Neytiri is so incensed over Seze’s death that she’s willing to rush into certain death just to kill even one more sky person? Jake is frantically trying to get her to make a tactical retreat but she wants to push forward.

Across all of The Way of Water, Jake is holding Neytiri back from taking her revenge or taking out her anger in each fight. She gets just as impulsive and reckless as Lo’ak - we can see this in several sequences during the fighting, from when Jake has to cover her because she becomes exposed and Quaritch chases her tail, to the final battle sequence where she kills Z-Dog, where she stops her with an arrow to the hip while she kills someone else, knowing Z-Dog could still shoot her. She becomes completely taken over by the rush of the battle. She loses control of her anger to the extent that she breaks her father’s bow.

In the same vein, it’s Lo’ak’s and Payakan’s joint anger that leads to the rush on the boat in which Neteyam is killed (in my opinion, had Payakan intervened with Jake already on the ship, the fight would have gone much differently and much more quickly.) When all of the children are untied and have the opportunity to escape, it’s Lo’ak’s desire to re-enter the fight that leads to Neteyam’s death (remember, the ship is sinking and once the non-recon humans escorting Spider are in the water, they’re easy pickings).

lo'ak likes the song asap by stayc. this is so random but i can just imagine him vibing to the song in his room. be wearing a hood over his face and sunglasses even though his room has quite literally never seen the light of day and staring off into space like "😐" while the song is playing in the background like "🫧🌸💕🌈🥰".

ao'nung surfs. this is literally non negotiable. he does.

rotxo is a big brother. i'm pretty sure everyone can agree even though it's not canonically confirmed but that boy definitely has like 2 or three little sisters. speaking of which he'd be sooo good with kids aswell! especially babies.

kiri has a sanrio pfp. probably my melody. and what abt it fr?!

neytiri is very religious. goes to church every sunday and drags jake with her even though that man is a full blown atheist. but i feel like he'd do it anyways without complaints just because he loves neytiri so much.

lo'ak used to post depression quotes on his instagram story but stopped when he got absolutely slammed by kiri and ao'nung when they replied to them. homeboy would post some "i'm so tired:(" and then kiri would slide up like "go to sleep then🤣🤣‼️🙏".

this is a continuation from the previous one but one time lo'ak found out his middle school crush liked neteyam and posted on his snapchat some shit of him listening to juice wrld with the caption "js got my heart broken dhmu." then ao'nung responded with some shit like "who?? out of the entire sully family i can see kiri being able to tolerate spice the most. she probably loves spicy food actually. and then jake is the worst with it. when i think about it i can see tuk liking spice aswell.

tuk watches those youtube gacha videos. has probably made a few gacha music videos aswell that actually ended up getting quite a bit of attention. she has told NO ONE about it though. homegirl is living a double life.

lo'ak scams kids in adopt me and thinks its the funniest shit ever.

y'all ever seen those videos of that one guy playing magic tiles with their toes. yeah that's actually ao'nung. he does it at family reunions to show his little cousins and tsireya watches with her jaw slack and the most flabbergasted expression on her face from the other side of the room.

neteyams got leds set up in his room. yeaaah bitch has got COCKROACHES behind them leds and he doesn't even know it.

tsireya really likes sweet scents, i honestly see her either smelling like vanilla (victorias secret bare vanilla!! SOOO GOOD) or like ariana grandes cloud perfume (broo that shit smells so good). that girl smells like heaven in a person fr.

kiri crochets. it's literally true. makes her own tops and stuff and they look so good aswell. she's even sold a few little hats and crop tops to tsireya.

during 2020 kiri painted her door a cow pattern and yes she regrets it.

as kids, when everyone was playing just dance kiri was the type of person to put literally no effort into her movements. the girlie is doing the bare minimum and literally looks so bored like "😐" yet she would probably be getting perfect every single time and lo'ak has always loathed her for it since he was the guy to be doing the absolute most. practically bouncing off the walls with his dancing and definitely the one with the most energy out of everyone yet he'd probably come last or something.

lo'ak and tsireya have study dates where tsireya tutors him because let's be real guys lo'ak is failing all of his classes except for like p.e

spiders the type of guy to walk into the sully household, uninvited, scream "i'm home!" and then ransack all of their cupboards and steal from everyones 'secret' stashes.

tsireya likes anime. i can see her being into like action (bsd or some shit like that, man idk i don't watch anime) or some comedy romance. she probably forces lo'ak to watch it with her, and at first he's kind of resistent because he thinks anime is lame but give him an hour of aot because that boy is literally gonna be so invested afterwards. the next day they gonna have matching hanako and yashiro pfps prove me wrong.

rotxo always gets sick. one drop of rain will land on him and he's out of commission for the rest of the week with a fever. everyone is very concerned by how easily he gets sick.

neteyam on the other hand literally never gets sick. well more like he has too much pride to be sick actually because that man will haul his ass to school even if he's on the crippling edge of death. be walking around school with a runny nose and no voice yet be swearing on his own future grave that he's absolutely fine. man go home.
