Brazilian FM ratifies commitment to WTO
Brazil's Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira Friday told World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala about the South American country's commitment to the global entity under the new administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva.
During a telephone conversation, the Brazilian diplomat also suggested the WTO held annual meetings to “improve the organization's ability to respond to crises and to broaden the engagement of members, contributing to the process of reform and invigoration of the organization,” according to Itamaraty (Brazilian Foreign Ministry) sources.
Vieira also reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to the strengthening and modernization of the Multilateral Trade System and the WTO and assured the Brazilian government's commitment to the ratification of the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies, which establishes new trade rules for the sector.

IL MONDO LIBERALIZZA I VACCINI: SOSPESI TUTTI I BREVETTI
L’Organizzazione mondiale del commercio (WTO) ha raggiunto un accordo internazionale per revocare tutti i brevetti sui vaccini contro il Covid19.
Per aiutare ad affrontare la disparità di distribuzione del vaccino, il WTO ha concordato una rinuncia parziale ai diritti di proprietà intellettuale che darà ai mercati emergenti e a chi dispone di meno risorse e opportunità, la possibilità di produrre versioni generiche dei vaccini per un periodo di cinque anni, senza dover pagare diritti o royalties.
“Un insieme di risultati senza precedenti – ha commentato Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, direttrice generale dell’Organizzazione mondiale del commercio – queste decisioni faranno la differenza nella vita di tante persone nel mondo”. Questa risoluzione rende più semplice la produzione e la somministrazione dei vaccini in tutto il mondo, eliminando il lucro da parte dei detentori dei brevetti e liberalizzando di fatto il mercato, anche per gli Stati che non dispongono delle disponibilità economiche per procurarseli. Basti pensare che la percentuale di persone che hanno completato il ciclo vaccinale per il Covid in Africa è del 18% contro una media europea che supera il 65%.
Questa decisione è uno dei traguardi raggiunti nella prima riunione internazionale del WTO in cinque anni, dove i rappresentanti dei Paesi membri hanno completato una serie storica di accordi su temi estremamente importanti come l’esportazione dei beni alimentari, la pesca illegale, le restrizioni sulla proprietà intellettuale per i vaccini Covid-19 e i dazi doganali sulle transazioni elettroniche. I membri hanno raggiunto il consenso su diverse questioni chiave che in alcuni casi erano oggetto di dibattito da decenni.

La CEOE apuesta por la vacuna obligatoria tras la incorporación de Pfizer
La compañía Pfizer es, desde el pasado 15 de septiembre, nuevo miembro de CEOE, tras el acuerdo rubricado entre el presidente de la patronal, Antonio Garamendi, y el presidente y director general de la empresa biomédica en España, Sergio Rodríguez, todo ello con la perspectiva de introducir la vacunación obligatoria contra el coronavirus en los convenios colectivos.
Pfizer participará a partir de ahora de manera activa en las comisiones de trabajo de CEOE que abordan cuestiones de interés para su ámbito de actividad, como son la Comisión de Sanidad y Asuntos Sociales o la Comisión de Investigación, Desarrollo e Innovación (I+D+i), entre otras.
El presidente de CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, se ha mostrado «orgulloso» de contar en las filas de la patronal con un nuevo asociado de la «talla» de Pfizer. «Compañías como esta -dijo Garamendi- son ejemplo de la función social que el mundo empresarial lleva a cabo en nuestros días, y que va mucho más allá de la mera generación de beneficios económicos para sus accionistas«.
Por su parte, el presidente de Pfizer, Sergio Rodríguez, considera que esta incorporación a la CEOE representa una oportunidad para el sector, ya que la industria farmacéutica es, junto con el automóvil, el primer sector inversor en I+D+i del país, con más de 1.200 millones de euros anuales, lo que confirma el “importante papel” que juega en la investigación y colaboración biomédica pública y privada.
Pero han ido más allá. La CEOE, que hasta ahora se había mantenido discretamente al margen en relación a las campañas de vacunación, ha hecho suya la reivindicación de Pfizer y ha mostrado cuál va a ser el próximo caballo de batalla de la patronal: que la vacunación de los trabajadores sea obligatoria para acceder a un puesto de trabajo.
En una entrevista publicada ayer en el diario El Mundo, Garamendi apuesta porque las empresas controlen si los trabajadores puedan tener la «pauta completa», es decir, que estén al día de cuantas dosis de vacunas se le antojen a sus socios de las compañías farmacéuticas, donde los trabajadores no vacunados o sin el calendario completo pasarán a ser trabajadores de segunda.
Teóricamente, las empresas no pueden exigir a los trabajadores la vacunación ni cualquier otro dato que tenga que ver con cuestiones de salud, por ser datos legalmente protegidos, pero de manera paulatina esta tendencia se está incorporando en los centros de trabajo, y esta exigencia que la CEOE quiere elevar a categoría de norma, es ya una realidad.
Qué dicen de esto los sindicatos. Pues de momento los delegados sindicales que representan a los trabajadores del sector farmacéutico en 42 sindicatos de 27 países abordaron los desafíos enfrentados por sus miembros a causa de la pandemia. El grupo tomó una posición firme y aprobó una declaración sobre el acceso universal a vacunas, pruebas, tratamientos, terapias y medicamentos para combatir la COVID-19, entre otros aspectos.
Los dirigentes de IndustriALL tuvieron una reunión con el director general de la OMC, el Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, en la que analizaron las barreras comerciales para el acceso universal a las vacunas y suministros médicos contra la COVID-19, así como los debates en torno a una exención temporal de las reglas de propiedad intelectual de la OMC durante esta pandemia.
La red también llevó a cabo una sesión sobre el fortalecimiento del poder sindical en las empresas multinacionales del sector, en la que se abordaron las actividades sindicales en Takeda, Sanofi, Fresenius, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Novartis, AstraZeneca y B. Braun. En estas empresas prioritarias se han desarrollado distintos niveles de reconocimiento y diálogo, y todos los sindicatos implicados se comprometieron a continuar con su ambicioso plan a favor de la solidaridad y la coordinación internacional.
Por su parte, en España, en las Comunidades Autónomas, a pesar de ser una exigencia legal, la inoculación de las vacunas autorizadas por la Agencia Española del Medicamento contra el llamado COVID-19 no aparecen en las historias clínicas de aquellas personas que han recibido alguna de sus dosis, ni tampoco aparecen en el calendario de vacunación. Cualquier efecto secundario posterior quedará disociado de su inoculación, y será tratado como una patología ajena al fármaco.
El artículo 3 de la Ley 41/2002 reguladora de la autonomía del paciente y de derechos y obligaciones en materia de información y documentación clínica, instituye la historia clínica como «todo dato, cualquiera que sea su forma, clase o tipo, que permite adquirir o ampliar conocimientos sobre el estado físico y la salud de una persona, o la forma de preservarla, cuidarla, mejorarla o recuperarla.»
En dicha norma, en su Capítulo V, establece las obligaciones de la administración sanitaria de registrar en el historial clínico de los usuarios del servicio de salud, «todos aquellos datos que, bajo criterio médico, permitan el conocimiento veraz y actualizado del estado de salud», pero curiosamente, del historial clínico de las Comunidades Autónomas ha desaparecido un dato relevante: el de las personas que se han vacunado con alguno de los fármacos autorizados para el coronavirus.
Tampoco en las bases de datos del Sistema Nacional de Salud, a pesar de lo anunciado por el gobierno.
Se trata de una operación que puede comprobar cualquier persona en posesión de su firma o DNI electrónico que haya sido vacunado.
El Ministerio de Sanidad, que emite el llamado «Certificado COVID» que pretende ser un «salvoconducto» de acceso a estadios, aviones u hoteles, no recoge sin embargo la vacunación, como dato médico relevante, en las bases de datos del Sistema Nacional de Salud.
Lo que en modo alguno hay que confundir es ese «Certificado COVID», donde aparecen generalmente las dosis suministradas y datos adicionales del lote, del historial clínico al que tienen acceso los médicos de atención primaria, ya que son bases de datos distintas.
Puede comprobarse en esta web. En ella se accede al historial en manos del Ministerio, y a su vez al de cada Comunidad Autónoma.
En palabras de la ley, la historia clínica es un instrumento destinado fundamentalmente a garantizar una asistencia adecuada al paciente. Los profesionales asistenciales del centro que realizan el diagnóstico o el tratamiento del paciente tienen acceso a la historia clínica de éste como instrumento fundamental para su adecuada asistencia.
La trascendencia de que no exista rastro de la vacunación COVID en las historias clínicas es de excepcional relevancia, porque de existir reacciones adversas a la misma, éstas estarán siempre completamente disociadas de la inoculación, a no ser que exista una especial pericia del personal médico que atienda a la persona afectada.
Como consecuencia de esto, son decenas de miles los casos de patologías que pasan inadvertidas como un efecto secundario, lo cual permite a la Administración salir indemne en la mayoría de las incidencias. Porque como publicamos anteriormente, la «vacunación es una prioridad» para el Estado, pero parece que nadie quiere hacerse cargo si la cosa sale mal.

1. Adejoke Bakare

2. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, aged 69, is a Nigerian-American economist renowned for her significant contributions to global finance. Notably, she holds the distinction of being the first Nigerian woman to serve two terms as Finance Minister of Nigeria and has also held the position of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria. 3. Ndidi Nwuneli
Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli is a distinguished Nigerian entrepreneur and an authority on African agriculture, nutrition, philanthropy, and social innovation. With over 25 years of international development experience, she has been instrumental in driving impactful solutions within the global social innovation landscape, particularly focused on Africa.
Nwuneli is the visionary behind LEAP Africa and African Food Changemakers. Additionally, she co-founded Sahel Consulting Agriculture & Nutrition Ltd. and AACE Foods Processing & Distribution Ltd.
Notably, Nwuneli has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the ONE Campaign, a renowned global advocacy organization. 4. Abigail Marshall Katung
Abigail Wok Marshall Katung, aged 49, is a prominent Nigerian-British politician affiliated with the Labour and Co-operative Party. Notably, she holds the esteemed position of Lord Mayor of Leeds, a historic achievement as the first elected African in the Leeds City Council.
Katung gained recognition for her pivotal role in prosecuting state officials for the death of a black individual in 1971, a significant milestone in achieving justice. This led to the establishment of the David Oluwale Memorial Association (DOMA) in memory of David Oluwale, a Nigerian migrant to the UK who tragically drowned in the River Aire. Additionally, two British police officers were held accountable for his untimely demise.
In her political career, Katung has served two terms as the representative for the Little London and Woodhouse Ward, first in 2019 and then in 2023. Furthermore, in 2022, she co-chaired the Leeds City Council’s official ‘Food Champion’ initiative alongside Gareth Batty, the CEO of FareShare Yorkshire, demonstrating her commitment to community welfare and food security.
5. Zain Asher
Zain Ejiofor Asher is a British Nigerian news anchor renowned for her role at CNN International, stationed in New York City. She currently co-anchors the network’s primetime global news show, One World, where she conducts interviews with world leaders, newsmakers, and CEOs.
Asher has also been at the forefront of anchoring breaking news coverage during significant events such as the explosion in Beirut, the End SARS protests in Nigeria, and the passings of notable figures like Fidel Castro, Muhammad Ali, and George Michael.
In April 2022, she released her memoir titled Where The Children Take Us, published by HarperCollins. Inspired by her 2015 Tedx talk titled “Trust Your Struggle,” which has garnered 2.2 million views on YouTube as of 2022, the book delves into the story of Asher’s upbringing. It narrates how her mother, widowed and raising four children, persevered to fulfill her and her husband’s dream of relocating to England to provide their children with exceptional education and opportunities.
6. Simidele Adeagbo
Simidele Adeagbo, aged 42, is a Nigerian-born athlete who has made significant strides in bobsleigh and skeleton events. Notably, she represented Nigeria at the 2018 Winter Olympics. In 2022, she achieved a remarkable feat by winning the women’s mono bob event at the 2022 EuroCup held in Germany, thereby becoming the first athlete from Africa to claim victory in an international sliding competition.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to winter sports and her efforts in promoting Olympic Values throughout her competitive career, Adeagbo was honored with the title of Olympian for Life in the same year. This accolade followed her establishment of the SimiSleighs Foundation, a non-profit advocacy group dedicated to supporting women and girls in sports.
Adeagbo further etched her name in history by becoming the first African athlete to compete in bobsleigh at the IBSF World Championships in the same year, marking a significant milestone in the event’s century-long existence.
7. Toyosi Ogunseye
Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye is a distinguished Nigerian journalist, notable for being the first female editor of Punch Newspaper in its 50-year history. Her exceptional career has been adorned with numerous accolades, including over 25 media awards. Notably, she clinched the health category of the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year Awards in both 2011 and 2013.
Previously, Ogunseye held the esteemed position of head of language services, West Africa, at BBC World Service. Additionally, she was selected as a Mandela Washington Fellow in 2014, completing her Fellowship at the Presidential Precinct.
Presently, Ogunseye serves as the President & CEO of the United States Presidential Precinct. In this role, she actively contributes to the organization’s mission of delivering leadership programming that engages and inspires emerging leaders.
8. Wunmi Mosaku
Wunmi Mosaku, a Nigerian-born British actress, has attained significant milestones in her illustrious acting career. Her exceptional portrayal of Gloria Taylor in the TV drama Damilola, Our Loved Boy earned her the prestigious BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2016.

Ambassadeur Jadoenathmisier overhandigt geloofsbrieven aan Directeur-Generaal van WTO
De Permanente Vertegenwoordiger van Suriname in Genève, Aroen Jadoenathmisier, heeft zijn geloofsbrieven overhandigd aan de Directeur-generaal van de Wereld Handel Organisatie (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
Tijdens deze gelegenheid heeft de ambassadeur zijn dank betuigt voor de goede samenwerking tussen Suriname en de WTO. Daarnaast zijn er enkele dringende zaken aan de orde gekomen, waaronder de ratificatie van de overeenkomst voor visserijsubsidies. Hierbij heeft de Directeur-generaal aandacht gevraagd voor een spoedige afhandeling van de overeenkomst. Voor het proces van de overeenkomst voor agrarische cultuur is deze kwestie een heet hangijzer waarbij er besloten is om de onderhandelingen zo spoedig mogelijk voort te zetten.
Okonjo-Iweala gaf verder aan dat de kwesties rond geschillenbeslechting, investeringsfacilitering voor ontwikkeling en regionale handelsovereenkomsten hoog op de agenda staan van de WTO. Hierbij werd het belang van de vestiging van de Permanente Missie van Suriname in Genève door zowel de ambassadeur als de Directeur-generaal onderstreept om bijzondere aandacht te besteden aan de reeds bestaande samenwerking met de WTO en eveneens binnen de Caricom.
