So the rebels in my novel are currently defiantly sticking exactly to the letter of the law
doing essentially the legal equivalent of this
Tumblr media
and I think that’s absolutely hilarious.

NaNoWriMo Day 29
Total NaNo Word Count: 30,230 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 1,687 words Days with Positive Word Count: 7
Word Wars: 20 Places Written: 9 Bodycount: 5 Dramatic Speeches: 4 Fluffy Shipping Moments: 5 Swears (mild): 4 Swears (strong): 13
Last line written: “It won’t be much longer now, before I can leave him behind bleeding in the dust.”
Favourite line written: The smile alone, that he sported when Finch came into the room, was enough to make them want to wash themselves.  “He bought it, hook, line, and sinker. By West, it’s just too easy with these sentimental idiots. Where’s the challenge in that? Oh well, there will be enough challenges coming our way. Ha! We will pull the rug right out from under them.” Finch just nodded and silently helped Everington gather the things remaining in the room before returning him to his actual quarters in the Labyrinth. Finch had chosen to work together with the General. They didn’t regret it: they knew, for their purposes, Everington and his plan would be a valuable asset. But they didn’t have to like the man, and really, even if working with him was more challenging, more productive, more innovative than anything that they could have ever achieved with the Roamers or the Nihidealists, on days like these they couldn’t help but despise him. His spitefulness. His condescension. His downright hate for everything that was good and kind and accepting. These were all qualities that Finch would claim to approve of if you asked them outright. And they did approve of them, on some level. More than that, there were days when they hated people enough to agree with him, and then Everington’s disgust instilled in them a kind of vulgar pleasure. But then there were days when they just wanted to barf right in his hideous grinning face.
Comment: I did it!! 30K words!! Whoooo 🎉🎉🎉 @nyuumi you know what that means? 😏😉

NaNoWriMo Day 20
Total NaNo Word Count: 17,178 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 1,872 words Days with Positive Word Count: 3
Word Wars: 15 Places Written: 4 Bodycount: 0 Dramatic Speeches: 2 Fluffy Atsidian Moments: 3
Last line written: “In every movement he could feel the bruises that were already starting to bloom all over his body, since the soldiers seemed to be particularly fond of going against him with a cudgel.”
Favourite line written: -
Comment: It’s... not going well. The longer I am stuck on this scene the more I am starting to hate it. I just want to move on already.

I should be writing
but I am sick of this damn scene. I’m no good with action scenes. I don’t know the first thing about a fight, let a lone a battle. I don’t understand the logistics of it all. I don’t know how to make this sound good, let alone how to make it sound realistic. I don’t know how to keep my characters alive through this.
And there’s just no end in sight.

NaNoWriMo Day 8
Total NaNo Word Count: 5.023 / 50.000 words Today’s Word Count: 1.330 words Days with Positive Word Count: 0
Word Wars: 3 Places Written: 3 Bodycount: 0 Dramatic Speeches: 1 Fluffy Atsidian Moments: 2
Last line written: “Because how do you expect a ruler to take care of his people, if the people cannot hold him accountable?”
Comment: Soooo... this is late? I’ve been having trouble getting into Nano this year, so I’m really behind. But today was the first day I kind of felt I was getting back into it, so why not give this old habit a try? I just hope the next days will go even better.

NaNoWriMo Day 24
Total NaNo Word Count: 23,000 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 2,520 words Days with Positive Word Count: 5
Word Wars: 17 Places Written: 7 Bodycount: 5 Dramatic Speeches: 4 Fluffy Shipping Moments: 5 Swears (mild): 4 Swears (strong): 10
Last line written: "This is not the path that we take. This is the path that we choose not to take.”
Favourite line written: “We have shown the High Judges that they cannot underestimate us. Now we have to prove that we mean business. That they can neither put us off nor sit it out. We will not relent. We will not lose interest. We are not so easily distracted as they might hope. We are not so easily pacified. We are not so fickle! As long as nothing changes, we will not go anywhere. And to illustrate that...”, he allowed himself a brief smile, “we will take a little trip. A trip to Paraley.”
Comment: We are slowly making progress. The going is still tough but I may just reach the 30K and (fingers crossed) it seems I’m getting back into the flow of things.

NaNoWriMo Day 21
Total NaNo Word Count: 19,179 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 2,043 words Days with Positive Word Count: 4
Word Wars: 15 Places Written: 4 Bodycount: 5 Dramatic Speeches: 3 Fluffy Atsidian Moments: 4
Last line written: The roamers’ supplies backstage, packed in inconspicuous crates, had thankfully been left unregarded by the Guarda, and so at least they had a basic stock of bandages and medicine.
Favourite line written: “It’s nothing”, Alistair said, “I don’t think it it’s very deep.” Victor touched Alistair’s tunic gingerly, the hole that the bullet had left in the fabric. His fingers came away red with Alistair’s blood. He gritted his teeth and yanked his rapier out of the ground. “Ready?”, he asked, but Alistair had already lifted his arm and fired a shot over Victor’s shoulder. Victor didn’t bother to look around, he just heard a dull, wet thud and then a body hitting the ground.  For a fraction of a second his eyes met Alistair’s before they both turned around and, the other at their back, joined the fight once more.
Comment: I fucking love battle couples I’m telling you. As much as I dislike writing fight scenes, this right here *point up to favourite line* is what I LIVE for. Also today has been the first day this month I managed more than 2000 words so YAY ME!

NaNoWriMo Day 15
Total NaNo Word Count: 11,475 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 1,363 words Days with Positive Word Count: 1
Word Wars: 8 Places Written: 4 Bodycount: 0 Dramatic Speeches: 1 Fluffy Atsidian Moments: 3
Last line written: “He left the Nihidealists in your hands. Not in mine, or Marc’s, or anyone else’s. In your hands. And you dropped them. His life’s work, the only thing he’s ever been proud of.”
Favourite line written: “I can tell you right now, Finlay, you cannot expect him to be the same Victor that you used to know. He’s not that person anymore. What happened to him changed him.”
Comment: Halfway point! I’m not expecting to still reach 50K at this point, but I’m fairly confident that the second half of the month will go better than the first, so I’m aiming for 30K.

NaNoWriMo Day 12
Total NaNo Word Count: 8.388 / 50.000 words Today’s Word Count: 1.829 words Days with Positive Word Count: 1
Word Wars: 5 Places Written: 4 Bodycount: 0 Dramatic Speeches: 1 Fluffy Atsidian Moments: 3
Last line written: “Believe me, General. If the High Judges refuse... if they believe they can put us off or take us for fools... then we can and will obliterate them.”
Favourite line written: “These are the ones that the High Judges and the Guarda are trying to pass off as the ‘enemies of the people’. Now, you who are standing before me, tell me. You are the people! Are these your enemies? Are these the people that you fear? The people that threaten your freedom and your livelihood? Are they the ones that oppress you?”
Comment: My first word count above 1.667 this year! Finally!  I have less than half the words that I should have by now, but at least I’m starting to get somewhere. Slowly.

NaNoWriMo Day 28
Total NaNo Word Count: 28,543 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 3,223 words Days with Positive Word Count: 6
Word Wars: 20 Places Written: 8 Bodycount: 5 Dramatic Speeches: 4 Fluffy Shipping Moments: 5 Swears (mild): 4 Swears (strong): 12
Last line written: “I am - I was a soldier, and I know nothing about first aid, but I am willing to help with anything that you I can learn quickly from you. If you are willing to teach me.”
Favourite line written: “How’s your acting abilities? It’s one thing to look the part, but a very different one to actually sell it.” “Don’t you worry about that.” “Are you sure? He may be a Nihidealist and as such a bleeding heart by nature, but he’s not stupid. There’s no reason to assume he might recognise you, but if he doesn’t buy your story we’re fucked.” Everington snorted. “For twenty-five fucking years I convinced Samuel that I loved his precious son like a brother and only ever wanted the best for him. Against all evidence to the contrary. Believe me, this is going to be a piece of cake.” Finch leaned his head to one side. “Well, let’s hope that your talent’s as great as your ego.”
Comment: 30K are SO CLOSE now. Let’s see how far I can get in two more days, but as long as I reach that benchmark, I’m happy with how I did.

NaNoWriMo Day 16
Total NaNo Word Count: 13,161 / 50,000 words Today’s Word Count: 1,686 words Days with Positive Word Count: 2
Word Wars: 15 Places Written: 4 Bodycount: 0 Dramatic Speeches: 2 Fluffy Atsidian Moments: 3
Last line written: “After a long moment they both nodded, and Alistair turned away.”
Favourite line written: Finlay glared at him for a long time, then he shook his head with a gloomy expression. “Why’d you have to be so goddamn perfect...” “For fuck’s sake, Finlay! I have plenty of flaws.” “Oh, yeah, and he’s humble, too!” Finlay threw his hands up. “By Godfrey, I can’t stand it! How can he bear being around you all the time?”
Comment: Second Day with a little green word count thing. Also the first day where I felt I could actually keep going after I reached my daily goal, but I have once more reached a place where I need to figure out some things before I can continue. This scene is now too long by far. Something needs to fucking happen already.
