Prompt Game

Gai prided himself on his observation skills, being a shinobi and all. Sure, he wasn't so good with faces but were some faces he knew quite well. Only, he'd never seen such expressions on Kakashi's face before...

The mask only made it harder, but over the years he'd become familiar with the narrowing of Kakashi's eyes, his expressive brows, the tilt of his head. Lately, Kakashi seemed almost what would be considered his version of, well, jovial.

Subdued, yes, like Kakashi was in all things unlike Gai. It was unmistakable though.

Kakashi seems happy.

This is wonderful news! The best news in fact! But when he'd asked what had made his dear friend so chipper he'd received a rather lacking answer.

"It's just so nice when summer arrives."

It's one such summer evening that Gai is making his way down the road by the Tower to the first-floor apartment Kakashi had secured for him near the Tower and the hospital for his rehab appointments, surrounded by the freshly paved walk ways that made moving about in his wheelchair not as taxing as it might have been. It's not quite dark yet, but enough that the lights inside the Tower provide little clues as to its inhabitants movements.

Gai wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't been looking up to the window of Kakashi's office that very moment, the shadowy figure that appears on the roof outside and then slips in through the window like nothing. He'd be alarmed if he didn't recognize Uchiha Sasuke's robes and the distinct silhouette of his hair.

He'd been slightly more surprised when he not only sees another very familiar shadow appear, but the two images coming together for a few seconds, faces touching intimately before the shorter figure steps back but not out of the other's arms. It happens again, and then a third time before the figures disappear further in, the lights dimming a short time later.

Ah...summer. Long days and heated nights, intense thunderstorms and soft warm breezes. Fleeting, at times, but always bound to return.

Gai smiles to himself as he continues down his path. Kakashi's secrets are safe with him.

Kakashi straightened his back the moment Sasuke started stirring. He kept her eyes on Sasuke's face. Long, pretty eyelashes flutter against porcelain cheeks just before Sasuke's eyes opened.

Sasuke turned his head to him and Kakashi immediately stood up. He handed Sasuke a glass of water, which he downed in a few seconds.

The moment he finished visually assessing Sasuke, he sat down in the chair again. He and Sasuke eyed each other. Kakashi then started gently scolding him.

"What were you even thinking?" Kakashi folded his arms." You can't just throw yourself into danger. I love you and losing you would-"

"You love me?" Sasuke whispered. His eyes stayed glued to the bedsheets.

Kakashi's heart dropped to his stomach. Thankfully, before either could say anything else, a nurse knocked on the door.

You don't understand, I need to read your Team Taka AU!!

I do have some questions!

1. The missions that Team Taka accepts, are they only shinobi related? or are they also more mundane like farming, building?

2. If they're shinobi related, do they have hard nos? and what are they willing to accept?

3. You said that Danzo dies with the help of all Taka, but do they take more actions? making it public? destroying the world?

First of all. thank you!!! I am so glad I have interested at least one(1) person in this AU idea. And I would love to read it too, but unfortunately I would have to like... actually write it. Bummer.

To answer your questions:

1) They're a mix of both! What I had in mind is that they're often moving a lot, village-to-village, town-to-town, maybe even the city, in search of information on the things they're searching for (The 7 Swords of the Mist, traces of Juugo's clan, traces of the Uzumaki, etc.) and so here and then they'll either find someone who needs their immediate help or ask around if they can help with anything if they need the money. Sometimes a mission will be "my son got kidnapped after a village attack please helpme find him" or helping with groceries. Like your usual shinobi missions, really.

They never take more money than is strictly necessary (which is at Sasuke's insistence) when they move as a group. Sometimes they'll split up around a town to take a few individual odd jobs, and Karin and Suigetsu will sometimes take a little more than they think the mission is worth, but only if the client looks well off enough. Sometimes they will do missions for free if they look particularly dire and they feel too bad to charge the client, which happens a lot more than they'd expect.

2) They discuss what their limits would be, when they're acting as a group, among each other. Since Sasuke's no longer leading them towards a goal that is his alone, "just do what Sasuke says" isn't how they function anymore (Suigetsu and Karin will constantly remind Juugo of this, who just kind of already decided how that would be how he'd work for himself. Some encouragement from Sasuke himself and more time getting used to working as a team eventually leads him to speak up about what he thinks more). What they decided after long discussion is:

They will not take assassinations as long as they can all agree that the person being assassinated deserves it. Which kind of people fit into that is another subject for discussion but they can all agree that they won't entertain petty rivalries or requests from people in high positions (rich, noble, etc.) that are clearly abuses of power.

They will not bother helping people who can clearly help themselves, if it's for mundane every day tasks. They will check for it if that happens to be the case.

They will not take on anything that keeps them in one place for too long, given that they're still on the run and two of them have their faces on official village watchlists.

3) I hadn't thought as far as "what do they do with what they know now and after killing Danzo", actually! That part is still something I'm working on. But they're definitely not gonna go public as far as like being the faces of the Revolution, or something. They don't have the power or the resources for that, and prefer (and are better-suited) to do some individual direct action.

I did mention that Obito/Madara as Akatsuki ringleaders are completely absent from this AU, making it so that the Akatsuki and what they do are 100% the work of Konan and Nagato, so... at some point, Hebi are radicalized enough to see the Akatsuki less as dangerous criminals and more as people who had a point. They eventually face with Kisame, who has a sword Suigetsu wants, who is perfectly happy to tell them what the Akatsuki wants and what their true motives are. So they could collaborate with what's left of them from time to time (that being just Kisame, Konan, and Zetsu, lol). I do not believe in Konan trusting Naruto so readily like Nagato did so she won't do that in this AU. She will try to rebuild the Akatsuki, or at least a movement that can stand against the Hidden Villages and challenge them, bc it's what she deserves. And Hebi can help with that, what with the connections with other people they've built, and such.

Kakashi is a great cook and he seems like pretty good with chores, what doesn't he like doing? or what is that chore that he might not be good at? And what about Sas? in what is he really good? and really bad?

Ok I’m going to use this to character dive lol.

I think a lot of Kakashi’s proficiency in keeping house is that early discipline that came with having a busy father raising him alone and then of course having to do it all alone, and being recruited into ANBU as well I think would add a level of rigidity, as well as what happened to Sakumo influencing that. Maintaining a certain order = following rules. And then later it’s therapeutic. I think if he has to pick he doesn’t spend much time ironing? Like those little extra steps, he’d look for convenience so he doesn’t need to spend time on that. He’s neat and put together but his uniform might be a little wrinkled sometimes, etc. so he picks easy maintenance clothes because that’s low priority. Of course I think this too changes as he gets older.

Sasuke has some of this discipline too, from having to be independent at a young age, but I imagine he’s less rigid and structured because of the detours he took in his life compared to Kakashi. Like I think personally he’s less neat and orderly because he’d rather train than organize, he’s fine if the coffee table is a little cluttered while he lazes in the sun for a bit. He keeps things clean of course because his parents instilled it, but he’s not like Kakashi when it comes to that. He eats to survive, so he’s not the best cook. He’s lived on the road more, nomadic-like. He’s more casual on that front. I think he’s better at laundry, though. I just think taking pride in representing his clan, he’s used to ensuring anything carrying their crest is maintained well and looks like new all the time. He’s careful about the detergent he uses and irons things, stores them nicely. Makes little repairs. I also think he grows to like gardening, creating something from a seed and nurturing it to grow.

I also think, and this isn’t really a chore, but that Kakashi has less of an eye for decorating. He’s used to keeping his living space impersonal. Sasuke I think, while no designer because it also wasn’t a priority, is a bit more intentional in curating his space, making it his.

How lovely that they compliment each other in the end 😉

■ -  Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon for Taka!!!

Thanks for the excuse to talk about them!!

They all have their separate rooms. Juugo’s has a big window and a bird feeder just outside it. It's also full of plants.

Suigetsu’s has a giant fish tank but not like the once he was in before. This one has some plants and is decorated. There are swords on the walls.

Sasuke’s simple yet homey. It has the uchiwa on a wall. He has a couple of pictures of his family, team 7, and Taka on his bedside table. He also has a big window.

Karin’s room is impersonal. She only has necessities. She has lots of hidden weapons and traps (as do the rest but she has even more). I feel like it'd be hard for her to feel completely safe anywhere. Suigetsu too feels like that sometimes, but he trusts the rest and knows Karin would sense anyone coming their way.

They have a big kitchen and an even bigger living room. While they do have their own rooms, most of the time they end up asleep in the living room. They'll say thay Sasuke (or Juugo) is a great source of heat, but its mostly because they feel safe around each other and less lonely.

Kakashi wanders out of the bedroom, post-dinner and freshly showered ready to unwind after a long day as Hokage. He pads into their living room with a new book and a mug of tea, eager to continue his quest to find a series as compelling as Icha Icha had been, only to find Sasuke curled up in his favourite spot already.

"Sasuke, might you scoot over? You're on my side of the couch."

Sasuke looks at him oddly, scratching their kitten behind the ears as he does.

"You know Kakashi, when Uchiha get married there is no more mine and yours, there is only-"

"Ours, I know, but see that is the best spot in this whole house to read and I finally have a moment to crack this baby open."

"Really?" Sasuke asks, not moving, and instead both he and the kitten tilt their heads at Kakashi. "Why?"

"Why? Why? Surely you've noticed this spot is equidistant from the kitchen for snacks and the bathroom for relief, has an end table within reach to set said snacks and tea, perfectly located between the kitchen window and back door for a gentle cross breeze, in the precise spot we get sun in virtually all day, has the perfect view of the yard when I need to stop reading and stare into the distance to absorb-"

"Wow, okay. Perfect spot, got it."

He waits, but Sasuke simply stares at him with his brow raised, the kitten having decided to nap on his chest, purring growing louder.

"You still haven't moved."

"Well, you just made such good points."

Kakashi frowns before plopping down beside Sasuke on the much less conveniently positioned other end. Compromise, Gai had said. The key to a good and long-lasting marriage.

He can't find it in himself to be annoyed for too long though, feeling Sasuke's warmth against his side as he shuffles closer with a smug smile that Kakashi kisses off for his troubles and the sound of satisfied purring lulling them both into a quiet evening.

2. What would they do if the other woke in a manic state after a nightmare?

Kakashi: I think he would hold Sasuke close, rock him, speak to him softly. Stroke his hair, remind him he's there. Once he's calmed down would ask him what he needs, does he want tea, does he want to get up and do something, or go back to sleep? And take his cues from there.

Sasuke: I think at first he doesn't really know what to do, he's a little hesitant but he just gets close and just strokes his face and chest until he's focused again. Later in their relationship, he would get on top of Kakashi and just rest his weight on him, rest on his chest. Like a weighted blanket. Similarly he will ask Kakashi what he wants after, maybe summon the ninken to keep him company while he fetches him a drink.

19. How do they feel about PDA?

I don't think either of them care, like they're private so they aren't going to be over the top but they also do not shy away from kissing or touching affectionately - assuming they aren't keeping it secret. So if they together they will sit close, have a hand on a thigh or arm, lean on each other. Kiss hello/goodbye, that kind of thing. Sasuke cares less than Kakashi but he will respect the moment too, for him. (I also like to think that Team 7 and Shikamaru have learned that if they walk into Kakashi's office or their house without announcing themselves, and sometimes even if they do, and Kakashi and Sasuke are in the middle of something they will NOT stop.)

56. What do they do turn the other on/put them in the mood?

Sasuke: Walks around in his flimsiest yukatas or one of Kakashi's shirts. Teases him, taunts him - he kind of likes a chase so he kind of sets up a hunt. Winding Kakashi up and then escaping.

Kakashi: Honestly he does not need to do much to get Sasuke going. His voice, his demeanor. But he will look at him a certain way that goes straight to Sasuke's hole, talk reaaaaal low.

Both: Get affectionate, touchy. Amp up the playful aggression, like bite and get more physical during spars. Work out in front of he other, shirtless of course. Make innuendos.

Sasuke had curled up next to Kakashi after sparring. They were both close enough for Sasuke to curl up next to him like a cat seeking attention. Even after Sasuke left, even after Kakashi was too late to bring him back. Sasuke still trusted him enough to be able to fall asleep on him.

Kakashi properly settled with his back resting on a tree, knowing better than to wake up Sasuke. He pulled his book out of a pocket and reread it as his hand naturally made his way toward Sasuke's head.

He found his concentration faltering. He read and reread the same page. His thoughts drifted to Sasuke. Had his hair always been this soft? Had he been eating properly? Did he have anyone to look out for him?

He did his best to stop his mind from wandering. He instead pocketed his book and turned his eyes to Sasuke. How innocent and relaxed he looked while asleep. Kakashi wished time could be frozen still at this moment, where everything was peaceful. Where Sasuke was safe and near. Where he could keep him safe forever.

Then it hit him. Had he ever felt like this about someone? Was he feeling like this because he still felt guilty about not being able to stop Sasuke from leaving, from going to that man, or because of something more?

Before he could study the thought, Sasuke woke up. He blinked his eyes open before squinting at the sun and scrunching his face.

"Had a nice nap?"

Sasuke just hummed in response as he sat up.

He's impossibly cute, Kakashi thought.

Can I be greedy and ask for Itachi too?

Oh this is an unexpected but interesting one~ Took me a bit since he's not one of my favourites.

Headcanon A:  realistic - Itachi is the socially stunted awkward af person that some people seem to think Sasuke is. I think Sasuke is blunt and matter of fact yes, but he does have a level of social grace. He's not the type to stare at you in silence for a whole minute before saying something completely out there like "Oh I was just thinking that everything ends eventually, including you." Itachi is definitely that type. He basically is the kid that skipped like 10 grades and had 0 relationship with his peers, also saw a battlefield at like 5, and then of course all the baggage every ninja kid has with the added bonus of ending his entire clan. Then he spends a chunk of time hanging out with the Akatsuki, which is full of bizarros. So no, he is not suave, he's definitely a weirdo, Kisame is pretty worried about whatever he's got going on but he likes being the normal one between them.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious - Massive crush on Kakashi, he was the original notice me senpai. Listen people having a crush on Kakashi is actually extremely realistic so idk if this even counts but he totally is in awe of this non-Uchiha dude that has like half their chakra but is better with the Sharingan than pretty much 99% of them and has the balls to exist in their presence while doing it. Kakashi just wonders why Itachi is staring at him so much (see above), maybe he wants to take his eye??

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends - Hm he also had a pretty shit life so I don't think I can come up with much worse...but I think Sasuke was the favourite. Yes, even Fugaku's. Itachi knows it, too. I think you see this in the difference in how Fugaku treats them - on the surface there is the idea he's too harsh on Sasuke and doesn't believe in him but I don't think that's it. He actually doesn't push Sasuke, when learning the fireball he says "it's too soon for you" it's almost a neutral statement. He's really not this bully people seem to think he is, especially to Sasuke. I just think he's a classic reserved, emotionally constipated dad. Sasuke as a kid is this very sweet happy little baby, and I think Fugaku sees him as that - his baby, the second born, the one that maybe doesn't have to be what Itachi is as future clan head. So in the end when Fugaku calls him a kind child I think Itachi was hearing that kind of praise for the first and last time - not about his ability as a shinobi.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own. - He's read all of Icha Icha. At first because what the hell are those books senpai always has and what's so great about them? Second because of a sannin wrote them, they must be good for something then, right? Third, to understand human interaction. He still doesn't get it.

Kakashi hated these types of events. He was not used to them. He was not used to the intricate games politicians and the upper class liked to play, not that he couldn’t avoid their traps and scheming. He used to avoid these types of events for a reason, but now that he was hokage he had to attend even though he’d rather be at his apartment reading or spending quality time with team 7.

He had just excused himself from talking to a relative of the daimyo when his eyes met black eyes. For a second, it was almost as though everyone but the two of them had stopped existing.

He made his way towards the corner Sasuke had hid himself in. He grabbed a glass of something from a waiter as he passed by.

“You don’t normally drink.” Sasuke was holding a glass of wine when Kakashi stepped next to him.

“There’s no way I can make it through this without being at least tipsy.” Sasuke took a sip of his wine.” I’d have delayed coming back had I known I’d be talk into attending this– what is this even?”

“At least you can avoid them.”

Kakashi was so close to Sasuke he could smell his scent – since Kakashi could remember, Sasuke had smelt like smoke, as he matured ozone and lavender blended in to make a unique scent – under the cologne he was wearing. Something about the smell made Kakashi feel warm inside.

“What are you doing tomorrow?”

“Why’re you asking?”

“It’s been a while since we last sparred.” Kakashi looked at Sasuke with small smile only people who know him well could see.” It’ll be like old times. Some sparring, instead of training, and then we go back to mine. I’ll even make some Kare Raisu.”

“Don’t you have work?”

“I asked to have the day off tomorrow. No meetings, no paperwork.”

Sasuke looked at him with narrowed eyes.” Fine, but only if you stop ‘childproofing’ the place. I don’t see why you’d need to hide weapons from me.”

“It’s because I’d come back home to find them missing, Sasuke.”

Sasuke rolled his eyes and muttered something into his drink.

“I’ll see you at the usual training ground at 10.”

“So you’ll show up at noon? Got it.”

“I’ll be on time.”

“As if.”

Sasuke pouted and looked away. Kakashi took that opportunity to take a proper look at him. Sasuke wore a midi-skirt with a high-split. It was tighter at the thighs, making Kakashi wonder how Sasuke even managed to pull off some of the dance moves on stage just a while ago. He also wore a hip chain with moon and star charms as well as what looked, to him, like a piece of black cloth tied intricately to cover part of his chest.

"They make a fuss out of everything. If two people wear the same color days apart, they're dating."

"It may be so, but I don't need any dating scandals so early into my career."

"Why? You're not allowed to date? Poor nugus need some scandals to get recognition."

"I'm a rookie, not a nugu. I've been topping the charts since my debut. You barely get in the top 100."

"Someone's getting angry."

They continued the conversation as their staff ushered them toward the exit where fans were waiting for them.

"Are you cranky because it's past your bedtime, kid?"

Sasuke just rolled his eyes." My bedtime is until after midnight. I have a meet-and-greet."

"You poor thing."

Then the doors opened and they both rushed out, only posing for a few pictures, one in which, they each made half a heart with their hands.

Hours later, Sasuke was in the backseat of a car. He was about to dose off but he decided to turn on his phone in case Orochimaru needed him to work on something. That's when his phone went crazy with texts from friends and family. He opened Karin's message and almost dropped his phone as he read the title of the article she sent:

Sasuke, let's see...

Headcanon A:  realistic - Sasuke is pretty much always the one to admit his feelings first - when he feels something - and he keeps this up in the relationship. I think this is just really realistic because he's so blunt and upfront about it and if he's decided to accept or make something known he doesn't dance around it. I'm not saying he's romantic about it, but he's just very honest and pure in a way? So if he wants something and decides to go for it, he will and won't do it by halves. I play with the other person doing this too in fic sometimes, but I think this is more Sasuke for sure. He articulates his feelings pretty straight-forwardly.

For this reason I also think he is affectionate when he, you know, actually feels affection.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious - He is 150% not a morning person. I say this is not realistic because I'm sure he just had to wake up early and probably became one just via training and discipline, and honestly probably has a lot of trouble sleeping while he's still looking for peace BUT I think if left to his natural devices he is a night owl and sleeps in and will glare you to death if woken by anyone else before noon. He looks like a wet cat if you drag him out of bed before then and hair just as wild and face just as grumpy. Cutie.

ALSO he's terrible with technology. I feel like this might be unrealistic because he's just quick to adapt and a competent guy but honestly it's more that he doesn't want to understand tech. He's happy being reachable only by hawk. He does not know how to take a selfie. He once indulged Kakashi and sent a nude but it was so blurry and hard to make out it was basically SFW.

Ok the tw in tags applies here but I think Sasuke never intended to come back from his goal to get revenge on Itachi. I think he thought one way or the other that would be the end for him, for the clan, he would "restore the honour" of the clan that way and he did not have any plan or desire even to think beyond that, have a family, anything. Thinking about what he went through and the impact of an event like that...knowing he'd abandoned his home, his new precious people, branded himself a criminal and joined up with someone that he is disgusted by...even prior to learning the truth of what happened I just think he knew there would not be any coming back from that but that it was okay. I think this is another reason he pushed Naruto/T7 away so much.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own. - He's the cutest drunk. Contrary to what one might think he's not a sad or angry drunk, he's inquisitive and kind of a happy drunk or what would be Sasuke's version of this anyway - a more reserved version. He gets chatty and he's still as honest as ever, but with the added adorable effect of not being in control of his tongue. He also gets cuddlier. He's like little pre-massacre Sasuke again but grown up form.

Headcanon realistic: Sasuke probably pushed his body to his limits all the time. He probably trained and trained with little to no breaks for hours and hours, even before Kakashi became his sensei.

Headcanon not be realistic it is hilarious: Babe is always up to date with the latest fashion. He’s a fashion icon. ( I know in some universe the press is always talking about how the former terrorist dresses better than the Hokage)

Headcanon realistic: Kakashi dresses up the ninken in cute outfits. He has an album full of pictures of them.

Headcanon not be realistic it is hilarious: Kakashi’s silver hair has turned grey because of team 7. He cares about those hellions and no one had prepared him to get that attached to them. Naruto or Sasuke will ask something ( like what would happen if I swallowed shampoo or something like that ) and Kakashi's heart would stop before asking them if they did that and takes them to the hospital anyway. (the unrealistic part is the hair. even if it changes no one would really notice.) [fic rec]

“I’m not even that si-”

Sasuke sneezed mid-sentence only to cough wetly right after, making Kakashi grimace.

“Right, you’re obviously not sick. At all.”

Sasuke rolled his eyes and threw himself onto his bed.

Kakashi walked over to Sasuke’s side and ignored his glare as he opened the curtains. He turned to look at Sasuke when he heard him hiss only to see him cover his face with his pillow.

“I didn’t know my student was a vampire.”

“Not your student anymore.” Sasuke immediately tensed, knowing damn well he’s hurt Kakashi, knowing damn well he had fucked up his, already rocky, relationship with Kakashi. His hand almost instinctively shot out to grab Kakashi’s sleeve.” ’m sorry.”

Sasuke looked up at Kakashi with wide dark eyes and Kakashi immediately stopped mid-step. He turned to look at Sasuke, while he normally tried to hide his emotions under a blank face, at the moment, Kakashi would only describe his expression as open. He could easily see the regret shining in those black eyes and his lower lip was slightly trembling.

“Does my cutest student want a goodnight kiss?” Kakashi teased as he leaned down because it was easier to do that than to examine the way Sasuke looked at him and how he felt about the other man. Just as Kakashi was about to press his masked lips on Sasuke’s cheek, Sasuke shifted slightly, causing Kakashi to press his lips against Sasuke’s.

Kakashi immediately pulled away to see a blushing and wide-eyed Sasuke. He crossed the room to the doorway in three steps and looked back at Sasuke, who opened his mouth to say something.

“Sleep, you clearly need it. Try to argue with me and I’ll ask Naruto to keep you company.”

Even though he closed the door behind himself, Kakashi would feel Sasuke’s glare through the door.
