Bridge (Lupat)

Keiichiro’s new discovery kept him in the office longer than he intended. By the time he found all the information he needed, it was close to midnight. The party at the kindergarten would’ve been long over.

He felt a little guilty for missing it but he’ll apologize to the kids next time.

As he walked back to the dorms, his mind kept going over the new possible evidence of the phantom thieves’ identities. In the past, he would eagerly pounce on the chance to unmask them.

But if they were who he suspected and the reasons for it, it changed everything.

If Kairi, Touma and Umika lost their loved ones in the mass disappearances, it would explain why they became phantom thieves. And why they were stealing the Lupin collection pieces as Noel hinted that they could restore their loved ones, and why they fought the Ganglar.

As he walked across the pedestrian bridge, he paused when he saw Kairi leaning against the guardrail.

Said person smirked at him, “You missed the party, Kei-chan.”

“Ah, I apologize for that. I got caught up at the office.” Keiichirou said apologetically as he joined him. He was not sure what to do now. Should he confront Kairi about his brother and possible identity as a phantom thief? Or should he act normal so as to not tip him off?

“Here.” Kairi suddenly held up a can of warm coffee for him. “Merry Christmas, Kei-chan.”

Keiichirou quietly accepted it, something that did not escape Kairi’s notice. “Hard time at work? Sakuya implied that you and Tsukasa-san were going through something.”

“You could say that.” Keiichirou turned the can in his hand. He looked up at his friend(?). “Kairi, can I ask you something?”

“Well, answers can cost you, depending on what they are.” He said jokingly.

‘Are you a phantom thief to save your brother?’ was what he wanted to ask. But what came out instead was, “How did you and your brother celebrate Christmas?”

Kairi was not expecting that question and looked at him weirdly. Keiichirou realized what he said and shook his head, “Sorry, forget it. It was a stupid question.”

He turned to go when Kairi spoke, “Aniki would cook stew for lunch on Christmas. Then we would exchange presents.” He shrugged. “It was nothing special.”

But Keiichirou was not fooled. ‘It was important to you. That’s why you’re fighting so hard to get him back.’

“You owe me a Christmas present now.” Kairi poked his shoulder.

“Ah, of course. I’ll get you something tomorrow.” Keiichirou forced a smile.

“Arigachu.” Kairi waved and headed back to Jurer.

Keiichirou watched him go and sighed. Pressing his head against the guardrail. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath. When he opened them again, his mind was made up.

He was a cop, first and foremost. He will tell Tsukasa and Sakuya of his findings. But he will not arrest Kairi and the others if their reason for fighting was for their loved ones.

His duty was to protect the smiles of the people. So he will help Kairi and the others save their loved ones to regain their smiles.
