Headcanon: Kirby hugs everyone

Kirby is a very huggy boi. He loves giving hugs.

Pretty much anyone that is Kirby's friend is going to get hugs from him.

Hugs is one of Kirby's ways to try to provide comfort for someone. He's not good with words of encouragement as he's kind of nonverbal a lot of the time anyways. He'll give you a hug to try to make you feel better, and he also does it just to make you appreciated and cared about, since he wants that for pretty much everyone more or less.

Generally, this works out very well. Even people such as Meta Knight, Magolor, and Daroach that generally aren't huggers on their own are glad to accept hugs from Kirby. It's the least they can do after how lovable and endearing he is, and after everything he's done as a hero.

Every dream friend has received hugs from Kirby. Even Dark Meta Knight, who is generally the most reluctant out of them to accept a hug, has relented to Kirby hugs. Nobody can deny Kirby his hugs.

A lot of Kirby's friends love to return the favor and give him hugs! The most prominent examples of this are King Dedede, Adeleine, Ribbon and the animal friends. Out of the animal friends, Rick, Nago and ChuChu are the most happy to have hugs with Kirby any time. Nago in particular is just a straight up cuddlebug, he's a big hugger too!

ChuChu, Kine and Gooey may not have great skin texture for hugs, but does Kirby care? No. He gives them hugs anyways! Even though Kine and Gooey aren't able to hug back, it's not like they care, they enjoy getting hug by Kirby regardless! They appreciate him so much.

Marx rarely gets hugs in his life. Generally, he doesn't really care for hugs. That being said, Kirby has given him hugs... and he appreciates it! There's a part of Marx that does think it's rather amusing that Kirby chooses to give him hugs considering what happened between the two before, but he figures that the least he can do is accept those hugs! Kirby caught him by surprise one time by hugging him while he was bouncing on his beach ball, which then caused him to fall.. Marx ended up laughing after that because Kirby sure got him there!

The mage sisters normally aren't suited for hugs considering their elements cover their bodies (i.e. Francisca feels icy to touch, Flamberge feels very fiery hot to touch) but I headcanon that they're capable of turning off the elements inside their bodies to where they're capable of giving hugs. And they do that for when Kirby asks to give them hugs. They love hugging with Kirby! They owe it to him after he saved them and Hyness, who likes to hug him as well!

Out of all of Kirby's friends, though, the two that are definitely most needing and deserving of hugs are Taranza and Susie, considering the things that have happened in their lives. After Kirby reconciled with them, he's sometimes been going out of his way to act as emotional support for them. He's made sure to give them both tons of hugs... their grief makes him sad and he wants to them to still feel cared about and appreciated despite losing the people they loved.

Taranza needs hugs for obvious reasons. Dude is just heartbroken from all the things that happened to him. He's so grateful to Kirby whenever he gives him hugs, it often makes him cry happily. Kirby is effective at acting like an emotional support dog for him sometimes.

Susie has gone a very long time without any hugs. When she got banished to Another Dimension, she didn't have anyone that she could've given hugs to, and when she finally returned to her mind-controlled father that forgot her existence, he refused to accept hugs from her... tragic. The first hug that she's gotten ever since the Another Dimension incident was from Kirby when they reconciled.

Because Susie went so long without hugs, it's made her not used to physical affection for the most part. When Kirby hugged her the first few times, it made her flabbergasted, and it even made her cry when she tried figuring out how to respond to it. But eventually as she got more used to it, she really likes Kirby's hugs! Even if she's still not really one for physical affection otherwise, she's glad to have hugs with Kirby any time... she's grateful for it, as it's indeed helpful for her.

That's basically all I have for this post! As this post highly establishes, I headcanon that Kirby loves giving hugs, and will give a lot of hugs to those that need it. It doesn't really get more huggable than Kirby.

Kirby is such a softie. He has so much love and care in his heart. He cares so, so much. Whenever he befriends someone, he's going to act like a real friend to them. He might not talk very often, but it usually doesn't even matter because of how endearing he is. He wants his friends to feel cared about and appreciated, and giving them hugs is probably his best method of making them feel cared about.

"Happy Halloween!" - Me

This month sure has been a ride, but I'll get into all of that tomorrow, because right now it's spooky time! I also wanted to take the time to explain all the costumes because I put a lot of thought into it.

From left to right (kind of):

Kine and Gooey: Gooey's only interest that we know is fishing, so I decided to dress him up as a fish , and to make that less weird, Kine is dressed up as Gooey.

Meta Knight: He's Galacta Knight, the legendary 'greatest warrior in the galaxy'. I'm still on the fence on whether it's canon that they've met/fought, but either way, I purposely didn't look up reference for the costume because even if they did meet, Meta Knight has to work from memory on what he looked like. Meta Knight's also trying to sneak some candy from Marx; we'll see how well that goes.

Marx: Groucho Marx glasses without the mustache so we can see him chomping candy, and a special Halloween print hat! That big bag of candy he's hording is definitely stolen.

King Dedede: DDD's a big prankster, and currently that's taking the mundane form of trying to jumpscare Kirby. I wanted his costume to be something that scares Kirby, but not like, scares Kirby, and I ended up with a capiller. Kirby's grossed out by those things, so it works!

Sailor Dee: They're Meta Knight because of course. Though, Meta Knight's not wearing his usual mask tonight, so maybe that one isn't a fake?

Bandana Dee: Okay, I admit it. This one is the stupidest one here. He's an apple tree. He likes apples. Bada bing bada boom. I didn't want a majority of the costumes to be pop culture references, so it's kind of hard to come up with something. Though, wouldn't an apple tree costume be a Whispy Woods costume in Dream Land?

Kirby: So, Samus is canon to Kirby, and in the Great Cave Offensive you find a bunch of other Nintendo references, and Kirby is in Smash... so technically Link isn't even a pop culture costume? Idk, but they already dress as him every time they pick up sword anyway. Kirby's actually part of a group costume because next up is

Ribbon: Navi! Apparently the teaser website for K64 compared the two, and while all they have in common is being a fairy, I thought it'd be cute to pair that up with Kirby and two other people.

Taranza: Kind of plain, but he's a vampire. I feel like that's one of the only Halloween costumes he'd be willing to wear, and he can put those silly glow-in-the-dark fangs in! And who's to say vampire romance books don't also exist in Floralia for him to enjoy?

Adeleine: Drawcia, because I've seen a lot of people already put Adeleine in a witch costume, and Drawcia and Adeleine both have paint in common. I was considering having her dress up like a fairy for both Ribbon and Elline, but Elline's in the picture so Drawcia it is!

Prince Fluff: Continuing their group costume is Princess Zelda, which was picked solely because it matched the others and because Fluff is royalty, but putting a big blond wig on him is cute anyway.

Susie: A popstar (not the planet lol) She loves to sing and I thought it'd be cute but still 'professional' since she's currently repping HWC with her specialty jumbo candy bars.

Dark Meta Knight and Shadow Kirby: Because of course, Shadow Kirby is Dark Link, finishing our group costume! DMK doesn't have a costume (boo) because he was just going to drop Shadow Kirby off but probably ends up sticking around in the corner.

Claycia and Elline: Their costumes work in contrast with each other, where Claycia is a black and white mime and Elline is a rainbow fairy princess!

Magolor: He was of (semi) sound mind for the first phase of his boss battle, so I imagine Magolor does like that robe, and he's not one to shy away from referencing his betrayal for a joke, so he's dressed up as Crowned Magolor (with the crown prop crumpled in a trashcan somewhere) and sneaking some Magolor cookies onto the snack table.

Daroach: Last but not least, Daroach is a pirate captain, with his loyal crew of squeaks hiding below the table and gorging on candy.

I've actually been planning on a Kirby fangame. It's a Kirby RPG where we play... As a puffball other than Kirby. The idea is based around. What if Kirby was lured to the dark side? How would that impact their friends? How would that impact the protagonist's view on themself? How many of the past bad guys would relapse when the one who set them back on the path of light falls off that path themselves? Would any of the bad guys relapse? And more importantly... What would need to happen Kirby to turn evil in the first place? It's gonna take a long time, but. It's something I'm drafting up. Right now, the main party consists of this other puffball, a scared and worried Adeleine who is mostly out of the loop and a Bandanna Dee who just wants their friend back. I'm stuck on who the fourth party member should be. It's either an Elfilin who, due to the stressful situation everyone is going through right now, is kinda struggling to control their emotions that they got from their other half or Marx, who I'm not sure what to do with yet. But I do know I want him to be one of the ex-villains to NOT relapse because honestly. Everyone would EXPECT him to relapse.

Sorry I let this one sit for so long, Emerald! (Where does the time go?!) I hope you're still working on "The Circle of Time" (cool title, btw!) and that this answer is relevant to you as I wanted to say, this is a really interesting idea!

You've got me invested with the idea of "Would anyone relapse now that Kirby's not just gone but gone...bad?"

Adeleine, Bandee, and Elfilin are a cute idea because they could sort of represent the different eras of Kirby companionship, but your idea with Marx is so good it already sounds like he'd be your best bet for a fourth party member because you'd have so much to do with him! And creativity is the spice of fan projects!

Also, I think the "Surprise! Didn't turn bad!" idea you have really works best when he's part of the Kirby search-and-rescue team as opposed to just being an important NPC.

As for your other question...!

I'm glad you've done more concept work on your RPG since last time! Remember not to burn yourself out or put too much on your plate! An RPG is already a huge undertaking!

But, if you want ideas, hmm... Marx is a really good one because Marx already has ties to Smash and I think fans would love to see him. Gooey would be a good candidate because he was in Kirby Fighters 2 so is a proven fighter, and Adeleine... well, haha, while at first she seems like an odd fit for the role of a Smash Rep, I'm someone who really, really wanted characters like Lip or Arle or Dixie for Smash so I can't not support my favorite artist girl!

...Basically, all three ideas are good! Curse me for being a Libra and being unable to choose! (Plus, you just happened to choose three of my biases to pick amongst! I can't, I just can't!!)

Random Kirby Headcanon #12

When it comes to ages, there’s a pretty big variety amongst the Kirby cast. Obviously, when discussing them, it’s hard to put them into the context of literal years, though, since I’m sure every species ages differently. Still, it can be roughly mapped out about just how old each of them are equivalent to being by our standards.

King Dedede and Meta Knight are early-thirties and mid-thirties equivalents respectively. I think when the Kirby series first started Dedede was a admittedly a lot more stubborn and inexperienced— closer to a young adult at the time, but he’s since grown and mellowed out.

Bandee is one I wibble-wobble on a lot, but I think ultimately I envision him as a young teen. Something equivalent to the 13-14 range.

Rick Kine and Coo are in their ‘mid thirties- ‘ just a little bit older than Dedede. Nago is in his late twenties or early thirties while Pitch and Chuchu are probably around elevenish.

Gooey is a hard one to pinpoint. I definitely interpret him as a child, but as for how I’d describe his age? Uh. I’m not sure. He’s just kind of Gooey.

Marx, Magolor, Taranza and Susie are all in their early twenties. Peak stupid psychologically damaged young adult energies. Marx and Magolor especially are like… very irresponsible college frat bro type of guys who will light a couch on fire in the alleyway for fun. Taranza and Susie are a little bit more responsible, but still generally getting their grasp on actual adult life and what it entails.

(Similarly, Sectonia was in her early twenties when she died. She was only a year older than Taranza by Arachnid standards. She died YOUNG, the poor thing.)

Adeleine is 14ish and Ribbon is about 12 or 13.

DMK is about the same age as Meta Knight, as are all Mirror Worlders to their counterparts.

Daroach is in his early or mid thirties. About the same age as Rick, seeing as how they were childhood friends. A fully grown adult, and still plenty spry!

Francisca is in her early twenties, Flamberge is in her early-to-late twenties and Zan Partizanne is in her early thirties.

Hyness is… odd, in that he’s long lived, even by his species standards. The dark magic he was using kept him alive for an unnatural amount of time. I think during Star Allies he had the energy of someone closer to 40 or 50, but now that he’s no longer summoning demons he’s probably closer to being in his 70s or 80s.

Elfilin is a child for sure. Probably equivalent to around 9 or 10. I wouldn’t know where to place Fecto Forgo or Elfilis though. They operate on a sort of scale we can’t really comprehend.

Leon and Carol are in their mid thirties. They’re a happy married couple.

Haltmann was in his mid to late forties when he died. Seeing as how Susie is in her early twenties… uh… wow! Yipes. He actually had her kind of young, didn’t he? He wasn’t exactly the most responsible as a young adult.

Fluff is equivalent to a preteen or teen. I’d place him in the same area as Bandee and say 13-14.

And then there’s Kirby, who I’ve saved for last because… how does one really go about surmising Kirby’s age? I don’t think there’s one simple way to describe it. There’s a lot of discourse in this fandom about how he’s “not just a toddler,” and while I agree mostly, I also think he… sort of CAN be sometimes? He’s a very complicated little guy!

I think I’d describe him as fluctuating between 4 to 10 at any given time. He has the speech abilities and motor skills of a young child, but is very observant and empathetic. In some ways, he’s wise beyond his years, but in others, he really is just a sweet, silly kid.

Feel free to ignore this if this isn’t the place to ask (I’m new to the fandom side of Kirby) but all this proshipping discourse got me concerned with like… who actually is an adult in the Kirby fandom? I see so many headcanons, but I don’t know where the line is drawn on who is definitively an adult and who isn’t (maybe I’m missing something)? Just King Dedede and maybe Meta Knight since they both have jobs??

That's... a good question wow yeah

Unfortunately since a lot of common Kirby lore is vague or poorly translated it's difficult to draw the line, since most is inferred or just popular in the fandom. Here's what I can tell you...

Most character ages are implied by how they act (or explicitly said in things like the anime or manga). If they're more mature, they run an organization, they take care of themselves independently, they have a job, etc they're most likely an adult. For example, we can easily say Meta Knight, King Dedede, Daroach, Pres Haltmann, Susie, and Magolor are adults.

Characters who are more innocent, small, and child-like are most likely younger like Kirby (who's a child in the anime), Gooey, Adeleine (definitely a child), Prince Fluff, and Elfilin (I guess you could argue Elfilin is an adult...? but idk he seems young to me).

Of course you bring up a good question when it comes to deciding how that works... some characters like Marx and Bandana Waddle Dee have arguable ages. Most people say Marx is obviously an adult based on how he acts in the games and the fact that he manipulates Kirby but some Kirby media (books mostly) seem to imply they're similar ages (which I'm less sure about but you'll see it in the fandom). Bandee too is very child-like and most of us agree Bandee is a kid, but they're also mature enough it could be argued they're an adult by some...? You really have to trust your gut on it.

Then again I've seen headcanons for the Meta Knights being older adults and some for them being closer to Meta Knight's adopted teens, you're going to see a lot of interpretations where neither side is made with bad intent.

Intent is the main word here as well, some people hc that Sailor Waddle Dee and Bandana Waddle Dee are siblings and some people hc that they're dating, both (for the most part) of these sides don't intersect. What I mean is most people only think one OR the other, definitely don't agree with siblings dating, but respectfully choose to have a different hc.

If you have questions about specific characters and you're comfortable asking or dm-ing I can definitely tell you what I've seen most people consider their ages and/or relation as. Some characters have a large variety of fandom interpretations while others have very specific (or just outright canon) ones.

Uhhhhhh tldr, most of it is difficult to discern but trust your gut. If they seem like an adult, they're probably an adult. If they seem like a kid, chances are they're a kid. Fandoms will have a lot of lore and opinions and sometimes you'll just have to learn a little before you know what to trust.

KIRBY STAR ALLIES: UNNECESSARILY DETAILED DEFINITIVE ARENA VIABILITY TIER LIST

After reading the title you may have a few questions. The first of which may be: why should I care what you think? Haha, well, reader who has likely never even played this game...

I have invested just a little bit of time into this game. More, lately, as I recently spent about 30 hours playing this game to decide once and for all who the strongest and weakest characters are. Now, you say, patchun... you invested 30 hours into a game that's like four years old, wasn't that well reviewed, and has completely faded from relevance... all so you could make a tier list no one will care about? And I tell you. Yes. Yes I fucking did. With that out of the way, let's dive in.

The criterion I used to determine viability were damage output, safety, and versatility. Some characters, when played skillfully, can have crazy unexpected DPS. Some characters have fantastic air dodges or blocks that drastically increase their safety. Some characters absolutely destroy Whispy Woods, but then struggle against literally anyone else. All of this has been taken into account to make the following tier list.

Before we start I want to make a few notes: if playing with friends, a few positions change. When playing with friends, Rock, Gooey, and Painter move up to SSS tier. Painting rocks is legit one of the most fun and strongest ways to clear the true arena. Also, Meta Knight, when playing with friends, is in S tier. He has some very high damage output if he is safe, but can struggle to stay safe. I will be using the terms "decent, good, great, and insane" very deliberately.

In order of goodness in all rows.

F Tier:

Those in F tier have pretty much nothing going for them.

Suplex is weak and constantly makes itself vulnerable.

Kirby is arguably the most skillful character in the game, but has decent damage when played well.

Fighter just has no good moves, its kit is a weak disaster.

Painter is slow and the minions it creates are weak and not versatile. Statue (down up B) is its best move by far, but the slow startup and inability to move during really hinders the move.

Bird has great mobility and lots of i-frames, but super low damage. I-frames don't matter when you're fighting the bosses for hours.

ESP, in order to do any good damage whatsoever, needs to charge it's ball of energy to max, and then manage to hit the enemy without touching anything else first. If you can do that, it's solid. But it's pretty rare that you can do that, and you're very vulnerable while charging.

Chef honestly should have gone at the top of F tier. It's dash midair B is strong and so is its spatula, though a bit boring. However, Chef has a large hurtbox and you can't play as Kirby instead.

D Tier:

D Tier clears are manageable but require almost perfect play. These characters have something going for them, but it usually isn't much and they're heavily outclassed in some way by other characters.

Beam is strong, but struggles due to lack of mobility. All of its attacks are good, but just good.

Staff is held back by the fact that its dash attack is immobile and has very few i-frames. Down-up B and Pole Vault into B are both good, but are outclassed.

Water has a strong attack in its down-up B, which creates a rainbow and does good damage. It also has a projectile that it can stay relatively safe while using. However, the projectile falls to the ground, meaning Water really struggles against enemies that stay high in the air. Anything out of reach of its rainbow attack will be quite a hassle to kill.

Sweep - I somehow cleared true arena with solo sweep, so maybe it's better than I was able to figure out? I tried for a while. It's hold and release B move, which sweeps and then flicks the broom, does good damage. Additionally, its dash attack is decent.

Fire has one decent move - its midair down B, which causes it to roll into an invincible ball of fire. If you use this near the ground, you'll then roll. If used on a big enemy, it can do good damage, but most of the time you won't be doing much damage at all. Barely makes D tier.

C Tier:

These characters are okay. They generally require a very patient and careful playstyle, but can do decent damage.

Rock can do damage. It has invincibility. It even has an up B in this game that is strong! But... well, unless you're playing with friends, you are going to be waiting around in rock form A LOT while playing this character. Waiting as two Bugsys hover around you, waiting for that perfect opportunity... to unrock, and then rock right back up. It's boring. But you can win with it.

Beetle can be strong, but it needs to be very careful about the opportunities it takes to attack, as many leave it vulnerable in end lag.

Hammer is the only copy ability here where you're better off playing as Kirby. Bonkers' hurtbox is big, why not just use Dedede?

Yoyo is like a better Bird. It has lots of mobility and i-frames, but only does decent damage (rather than Bird who does none). Its down up B is good damage on large enemies, but leaves it vulnerable.

B Tier:

Clearing the true arena with these characters will be a challenge, but keep at it and you can succeed for sure! These characters have at least something that is actually GOOD, without drawbacks.

Bomb is safe and does a surprising amount of damage. Simple, but effective, and you can aim which is a perk. Wind and ice weapons are great on this one.

Whip is what Yoyo and Staff want to be. Though it's dash B isn't as mobile as Yoyo's, it does a lot of damage, and has much more i-frames than Staff's. Its down up move does great damage and does not leave it uncomfortably airborne like Yoyo. And like Yoyo, it can grab and throw stars and enemies.

Spider is very safe and fun. All of its moves do good damage, and you can kite enemies and spam your dashing midair B. Webbed enemies that you hit into others will do a lot of damage, and jumping off of webs is a great way to deal with airborne bosses such as Kracko and Void. Spider works well as a teammate when playing with friends for this reason, as your webs can basically function as shields against some attacks. Also particularly noteworthy is that spider has a damage-immune shield (damage-immune shields can still be sucked, blown, and tornado'd) that can be used midair.

Parasol does insane damage with its down B attack, which also grants i-frames. This can be spammed to absolutely decimate health bars, and you can move during it to reposition. Parasol also has great mobility in it's dash B, midair dash B, and midair down B, all three giving i-frames - as well as a decently powerful throw. Parasol struggles most against Hyness, who rarely goes to the ground and as such does not present many opportunities to down B.

Sword has a good dash attack, and a great up B down B combo that can really put in work against larger bosses. It is vulnerable, however, at the end of the combo, and is not great at dealing with midbosses and smaller enemies. It's midair dash B is also good, but not nearly as good as a certain other character. Wind can help Sword by increasing it's mobility.

Plasma is a great ability so long as you don't mind destroying your thumbs! For those who don't know, Plasma in this game works like this: as you move the joystick, Plasma will build up static electricity. This has three levels, and when it's fully charged, it can be fired out as a powerful circular bolt. Until it is used, the static buildup also functions as a shield, and will allow Plasma to warp instead of dodge up to three times. Plasma is good at dealing with Kracko, Void, and Hyness thanks to it's up B, which sends the circular bolt upwards, and is safe against other enemies. But yeah, you have to kill your thumbs. Mine hurt right now.

Cutter is good, but not as good as bomb.

Gooey is just slightly better rock. Most of Gooey's moves don't do much damage. Gooey's rock can be painted. Gooey also has a damage-immune shield, but it doesn't really matter because you might as well rock up.

A Tier

These characters are legitimately good, but there is a lot of variety in exactly how the characters in this category are good. It is organized by how likely you are to be able to clear with them. Now that I'm getting into good characters: I played every character in this category with every single element to deduce which element goes best with each one. I technically have them all tiered, too, but I figured that was too much for anyone to read.

Adeleine's down B's minions do a surprising amount of damage (great), and are quite versatile, even being able to hit airborne enemies such as Kracko and Void. She also has the best shield in the game, completey invincible and unable to be hit by anything to my knowledge (possibly Morpho Knight tornado), and a good air attack option thanks to Ribbon. She doesn't have any i-frames, so she may require a bit of waiting - like Rock, but that's only if you put yourself in that situation.

Susie (Ice) has shots that drop large balls of ice at the end. She easily destroys most bosses with these. Business Suit has i-frames at the beginning of its spin and a very powerful midair down B, also reducing damage and preventing negative status effects. Susie will likely get hit because of her massive hurtbox in Business Suit mode, but it won't matter as much thanks to the damage reduction.

Dark Meta Knight (Fire) has two great moves in his charge Bs. Fire was chosen as the best element for him because it expands the radius of his charge B. His dash and aerial attacks are great, especially if you can land his dash combo. Dark Meta Knight also has a damage-immune shield.

Chilly is surprising in its placement, but its midair B does insane damage and it has a solid kit to boot. Instead of normal dash B, Chilly needs to use dash down B for an briefly invincible and mobile ice ball. Chilly also has a damage-immune shield.

Daroach has a lot of options and all of them are great. Fire bombs destroy Whispy and Kracko, Ice Laser easily clears midbosses and does great damage to everyone else, Squeaks are second only to Adeleine's minions in their effectiveness, and the Triple Star is a great tool for staying safe while dealing good damage. Daroach doesn't have a special shield, but he does have a three-use, chainable warp as opposed to an air dodge, which if used correctly should be able to save you from any bad situation.

Bandana Dee (Ice) is stronger than any other Bandana Dee variant (you may notice a pattern like that...). Bandana Dee's dashing midair b can be spammed and does great damage, like a machine gun, but is held back by the fact that you inevitably touch the ground after 4-6 spears. Bandana Dee's strongest move is probably its down B, which can also serve nicely as a dash attack, as it has great mobility and i-frames. Bandana Dee (Wind) has a good charge B, but wonky throwing spears and lackluster damage output when compared to Ice overall.

Ninja (Ice) has potentially the most DPS in the game. By being near an enemy and pressing and holding B briefly, you do a double slashing move that creates an ice pillar that constantly damages an enemy. You can beat Whispy with this in under 20 seconds! Shurikens are good for hitting faraway enemies, and Ninja is also able to use Substitute Jutsu if it block before getting hit. The reason Ninja is not S tier is because it struggles against airborne enemies and is not able to utilize its full potential unless it catches an enemy standing still. High skill cap, but high reward.

Meta Knight has insane DPS with his dashing midair B spam. Ice and Wind are best, depending on who you're struggling with. Meta Knight can struggle to do damage while also keeping himself safe, and for that reason is best when playing with friends. His down up B, condor dive, grants i-frames and is usable in the air. His counter also does great damage.

Dedede (Shock) has great damage in his kit and a lot of i-frames, including his dash B and iconic down up B. However, he is hindered by his slow movement and large hurtbox.

S Tier

These characters will have no problem clearing if you play them right, but are they broken? Considering what is to come... nahhhh.

Marx (Ice, Wind, Water) has two great moves in his black hole which can do insane damage and is invincible, and his dive which can do great damage and is invincible. Marx pretty much always wants to stay in the air, and his midair B has a lot of variety depending on your element, but it is most notably a very safe move. Marx has a one time warp in the air that can be chained but has to be timed perfectly in order to retain invincibility, and his main drawback is that all of his powerful, i-frame granting moves tend to be pretty vulnerable with end lag. For that reason, Marx needs to be played patiently.

Rick & Kine & Coo have the best dash attacks in the game, both midair and grounded. Rick (grounded) will turn into a mobile rock, completely invincible, dealing a lot of damage, and also able to move, while Kine (midair) has a long spin attack with plenty of i-frames. Rick conveniently also bounces off the top of the heads of enemies, Kine has a projectile that can travel a fair distance but is weak, Rick can melt ice with his fire, Coo can cleanse dirty food with his flop. These guys also have a damage-immune shield.

Taranza is a case where all of his moves are great, but none of them are insane. Put them together, though, and you'll clear bosses safely. Taranza can kind of do several things at once, and I'd recommend down up B + dash B + up B. Utilizing all of this damage at once will destroy bosses quickly. When you don't feel you're safe as Taranza, midair up B and midair down B can give you control and hit from a distance.

SS Tier

Magolor's down up B is insane. He summons a giant sword that takes up the entire screen, then slashes it and hits everything for insane damage while being invincible, then can cancel that sword into itself. He has an invincible dash move, by far the best air dodge in the game, a black hole that he can summon just like Marx, and a powerful fire projectile that can melt ice. And that's not even everything - so how is this not the most broken character in the game?

SSS Tier

Somehow, dear reader, you have made it this far. The best character in Star Allies, even better than Magalor, are the Three Mage Sisters is ZAN MOTHERFUCKING PARTIZANNE. Zan does not care what you can throw at her, she has something to handle it, and chances are she doesn't need to use it. Because Zan's down up B is a giant piercing laser that covers the entire screen, grants i-frames, can be cancelled into itself, does insane damage, and can be moved during. There are just no enemies that can even pose a challenge to this character. There are no enemies that can even damage her. My highest score in Star Allies was me goofing around and playing solo Three Mage Sisters and just repeatedly spamming this move over and over again! The funny thing is, her other moves are good too, and so are her sisters to an extent! But Zan is great because she also has really fast movement as well as a warp similar to Marx and Daroach's. In a pinch she can relocate incredibly quickly, and she has no need for a shield because her warp, when you're used to it, is probably the easiest to chain into itself.

So yeah this was my Star Allies tier list. If you've read this far I'm actually amazed. Thanks. Star Allies is at its most fun, I feel, when playing with friends. If you'd like me to talk in more detail (but not as much as this post) about some friend strategies and which ones are best, such as painting rocks, let me know, I guess.

“How’re you so... unbothered by all this?! You haven’t shown a single bit of concern for anyone’s well being, but especially mine! I’ve been risking my life and you’ve been unbothered with the fact that I could just up and die in my sleep and none of you would know?!?! Could you show a single bit of fucking genuine care for once?!?!”

Gooey was silent, letting Adeleines words echo around them both. He stared up at the stars, a vacant look on his face. He could see Adeleines face out of his peripherals. She was crying, tears streaking down her pale cheeks, the streaks emphasizing the dark circles under her eyes. Her expression was a twisted mix of pure anger and deep sorrow. He could faintly see her aura, a deep purple-red; clear pain and upset radiating from her. He glanced to the grass below him, lost in thought.

“I have shown genuine care, I just show it differently than others. I’ve been worried about you this whole time, believe it or not.”

“Stop lying.”

“I’m not lying. I don’t feel the same sense of urgency everyone else feels when you’re in danger. I feel...” He took a moment, trying to think of the right way to describe the feeling.

“...Fear, but relief. I’m worried for you, but I know you’ll come out ok. There’s no point in worrying about something I can’t help with nor help control, right?”

Adeleine didn’t answer. Gooey glanced over at her, noticing how she was trembling, tears dripping off her face, leaving little stains in her smock. It was clear that she was trying to bottle everything up and shove it down again.

“Addie, if you’re upset, you can cry.”

She didn’t answer again, simply opting for a rotten glare. The red in her aura seemed to overlap the purple in that moment. Gooey looked away, turning his attention back to the stars.

Just give her a moment. She’s upset and she doesn’t think the same way you do. She just needs a second.

Silence hung between them, neither seeming to want to break it. Gooey was content waiting for Adeleine to calm herself down. He wasn’t a fan of her bottling things up, but she did need a moment to calm down. She was heated, too many emotions overlapping one another. Her head was too clouded to think clearly, and that can spell disaster. He knew she’d be easier to talk to when she’d calmed down a little.

“I’m scared...” Her voice cracked, sadness creeping through her tone. She struggled a hiccup, trying to hide how upset she was. Gooey slowly looked over at her, his tongue pointed up at the stars. Her aura was a mix of purple and blue now, the red having completely faded.

Sadness... mixed with... guilt... and... a sense of pain? Those first two make sense, but why the last one? Did she get an injury we didn’t know about?

“Scared of what?”

“Scared of losing everything...” Adeleine gripped her smock in an attempt to stop herself from shaking. Her breath hitched, her bottom lip quivering as tears started flowing again. Gooey watched as a near black tint overcame her aura. He flinched, his mouth eye coming into view. It was a natural response to panic like that, considering he hadn’t seen black in an aura since the Void Termina incident, but he quickly realized that the black tint in her aura wasn’t corruption; she was panicking. Fear had overtaken her thoughts, filling whatever was there with worst case scenarios that stuck like superglue. His mouth eye disappeared, his tongue pulling back. He shuffled over to her and pushed his body against her. The contact seemed to help.

“It’s ok, Addie. Whatever you’re thinking of won’t happen. You’re scaring yourself over things that will never happen.” He heard her breathing hitch, a cough escaping her. He opened one eye, watching the black tint slowly leave her aura. He had to stop himself from letting out a sigh of relief.

“I’m scared that if I mess up... even once... *hic* t-that... everyone I-I care about... t-they’ll...”

“Everyone’s going to be fine. We’ll get them back, I promise.” Gooey wrapped his tongue around her hand, letting her grip it in response. It didn’t hurt, even though Gooey was convinced that it probably should’ve. A new aura entered his peripherals, a soft green glow outlining a small figure in the darkness.

“I’m sorry, I’m not interrupting anything, am I?” Adeleine recognized the voice on the spot, barely turning her head to try and see the figure.

“Go away, Dreambert...” Her voice was incredibly quiet, almost hoarse.

“Adeleine-“

“I said go away...” She was just a tad louder that time, but still nowhere near her normal volume.

“I’m not going anywhere. You’re upset. I refuse to let a friend like you be hurt like this.” He floated towards her, the bottom nubs on his head flicking intently. In an instant, his expression softened, seemingly having picked up on her aura. He floated around to face her, his arms outstretched.

“Oh, you poor thing, come here.” His tone was soft, gentle in nature. Adeleine barely scooted forwards, meeting his embrace. Gooey quickly unwrapped his tongue and joined them, nestling himself in her arms. Her breath hitched, louder than before, a whimper leaving her lips. She tightened her hold, and the dam broke. She let out a sobbing wail, no longer able to control herself.

“Shh, it’ll be alright.” Gooey could hear her sobs echo through the woods around them. It was a miracle Ribbon hadn’t woken up at this point. A sudden sharp pain got his attention; Adeleine had dug her nails into the back of him. She probably didn’t mean to, she was still crying pretty heavily, so he brushed it aside. Her comfort was more important than his own at that moment.

“It’s ok, Adeleine. Try to let yourself relax, ok? We’re here for you, kid.” Dreamberts voice reached her ears. She struggled to slow her sobs, only succeeding in starting up a small coughing fit. She could feel Gooey gently patting her back with his tongue, a clear gesture of comfort. She sniffled, pulling the two closer, burying her face between them. She shut her eyes and blocked out all the senses she could, taking slow, deep breaths. The only sense she didn’t try to block out is her sense of smell. With each deep breath, she focused on the smells of her friends. Such a thing had become a comfort for her. Whenever she was upset like this, Ribbon would hug her and ask her to pick out things she could sense. The velvety feeling of her dress, the smell of cinnamon rolls that always seemed to stick to her, the gentle fluttering of her wings; anything she could sense like that was something she should focus on.

“Deep breaths, Addie.” Her breath hitched again, a hiccup or two following. She took a deep breath, slowly letting it out. At first, the scent of metal hit her senses. It wasn’t blood, thankfully, but it was prominent. Following the scent of metal came that strangely unique Dark Matter smell. It was hard to describe, but it almost smelled sweet. Following that was a bitter scent, akin to orange peels.

That’s Gooey...

She took another deep breath, letting her mind wrap around the scents she picked up on already. A wave of chamomile and lavender hit her senses, heavy, but oddly light at the same time. Notes of charcoal slipped in, faint and airy in nature. She could just barely make out that fresh laundry smell, tucked beneath the other scents.

...And thats Dreambert...

She let out a shaky sigh, slowly sitting upright and loosening her grip on the two. Dreambert gently floated out of her arms, offering a hand for her to take.

“Come, let’s get you in bed. You must be exhausted.” His voice wrapped around her mind, quelling any stray thoughts that might cause trouble. She’d stopped crying, and he was right; she was exhausted. She weakly took his hand, letting herself be led back towards the little base camp they’d all set up. She barely registered him humming something. It sounded like a lullaby, and she recognized it, but from where? She was too tired to really think about it. Something about that song he was humming was too difficult to resist. With each step, she grew more and more tired, sleep starting to take hold. Gooey seemed to notice her lapse in consciousness, using his tongue to keep her arms propped around him.

Guess I forgot that Dreambert can, uh, do that.

He looked up at Adeleine, who was falling asleep mid-walk. She wasn’t even fighting to stay awake anymore, or at least, he was pretty sure she wasn’t. It was hard to tell sometimes.

That lullaby.... that’s the same one Ado used to sing to her, right? I recognize that melody, I think.

Gooey took a second to listen to the lullaby Dreambert was singing. He’d learned that the Pi’illo’s magic didn’t affect him, which was nice for situations like this. He felt a sudden drop, his grip tightening briefly. Adeleine had stumbled, clearly dozing off. Dreambert simply looked back and chuckled, guiding her over to the makeshift bed she’d made. Carefully, he eased her down, making sure she didn’t simply fall to the ground. Once she was sitting down, he flipped into his pillow form, landing on the ground behind her. She let out a soft grunt before simply falling to her side, her head landing on Dreamberts pillow form. In seconds she was out cold, sleep having finally taken hold. Gooey carefully shifted in her arms, getting himself comfortable. He glanced over at Ribbon, who was still sound asleep. A smile crossed his face. He nestled against Adeleine and closed his eyes.

“See you in the morning, Addie.” Silence surrounded them as the world faded into the darkness of night, illuminated only by the shimmering stars above them.

Zan Parthenon: MARX JUST RAN BACK TO CAMP WITH A BUNCH OF THE SKULL GANG FOLLOWING HIM

Big D: I’m already on my way.

Zan Parthenon: please tell me you’re bringing kirby

Gryll: AAAAAA

Gryll pressed their back to Zan’s, sucking their breath in. “Man, this sucks! Big time!”

“Understatement of the year, my friend.” Zan stated flatly as she charged her drums. Gryll had managed to build up a small wall to hide behind, but the blocks they’d made crumbled easily - it wouldn’t hold off the Skull Gang forever.

Something glittering hovered above their heads, and Gryll glanced up to see Marx barely clearing the wall. “Yo Zan! Mind lighting me up?”

“Sure. Just stand in front of me.” Zan ordered as she jumped up to the top.

“Oh come on, that’s gonna suck…” Marx whined.

“Think of it as payback for when you sprayed me with febreeze earlier.”

“Okay but you asked for that-”

“BECAUSE I THOUGHT YOU WERE DRINKING KOOL-AID!”

“WHY WOULD I DRINK KOOL-AID OUT OF A FEBREEZE BOTTLE-”

The inane argument was interrupted by a particularly large skully barreling through the wall, showering Gryll in brick fragments. Gryll cried out and swung their broom forward, borrowing some techniques they’d seen some Broom Hatters do. The skully tumbled away, just in time for Marx to body slam it. “Hey, Gryll!” he shouted, twirling on his toetip. “Go find Dedede and Kirby!”

“I - okay!” Gryll hopped on their broom and booked it out of there, weaving through the trees. Beneath them, they felt the broom sort of sputter - which was to be expected. The enchantment was beginning to wear thin - they probably should have refreshed it before coming to the islands.

As the sound of battle faded behind them, Gryll bit their lip. They really, really wanted to help, but they were more of a hedgewitch - someone who did spells meant for everyday life, not for the battlefield.

Whatever. Finding Kirby was helping too.

The broom fell suddenly, about five feet - it couldn’t last much longer. Gryll groaned, knowing they’d have to continue their search on foot. Quietly, they landed and leaned against a large tree, trying to listen to their surroundings…

Okay, there was the fight going on, and that kind of drowned things out. Oh, how Gryll longed to have nice big ears like Daroach, then maybe they would have better hearing! Above them, the branches rustled, and then something dropped on them - Oh, Lord.

They swung their broom wildly, batting at whatever had chomped down onto their face. They sucked in air, choking on the downright rancid breath, then filled their lungs again. “LET! GO!” they howled at the top of their lungs. “I’LL TASTE AWFUL, SO LET -”

Suddenly they were free, and they gasped for air. The thing was now howling in pain, and Gryll cautiously looked over to see something brown and furry mauling their attacker - a skull gang member. They’d been followed! “Shit…” they breathed. “I gotta find the others quick…”

“Wait!” The furry thing turned, and - oh lord, if that wasn’t the cutest thing Gryll had ever seen! Kirby was wearing some sort of animal costume - it was probably a copy ability! “Gryll, it’s me!”

“Yeah, I can see that now. Sorry, I thought you were like… some sort of raccoon…” they muttered. “Where’s Dedede?”

“Over here!” The king crashed through a bush and faceplanted in the dirt. He scrambled to his feet quickly, just in time for Escargoon to slam into his back, with Gooey close behind him. He stumbled forward, but caught himself before he could body-slam Kirby. “Okay. Okay, I’m good. Um.” He smiled sheepishly at Gryll. “Where’s the circus?”

“The circus? Oh, you mean Marx!” A crack of thunder roared through the forest, and Gryll pointed in that direction. “I’d say they’re over there.”

“Thanks.” Without missing a beat, Dedede charged forward. “Escargoon, you stay with Gryll!”

“But Sire -”

“No buts! I don’t want those freaks anywhere near you!” Dedede turned away and disappeared through the brush, and Kirby and Gooey soon vanished after him.

“No, wait!” Gryll cried, only to be drowned out by another crack of thunder. “... Damn. Okay.” They turned to Escargoon, who was tugging at his beard. “We can’t stay here. I don’t care what Dedede said, it’s not safe. There might be more of those guys around.”

“Are you kidding me? Why didn’t you say so earlier?” Escargoon growled, waving his arms in the air.

“I would have, but they ran off before I could - wait.” Gryll’s eyes narrowed as they heard more rustling in the branches above. “... Hey. Weird question. If you were surrounded by, say… five or six dudes who wanted you dead, how likely do you think you’d be able to survive?”

Escargoon was peering at the canopy now, quivering. “H-honestly? I’d give it like, a twenty percent chance?”

“Okay then. Let’s run.”

Kirby: you know i’m glad those guys don’t get stronger at midnight

Big D: @Marx did you find Gryll and Escargoon yet? Or DMK?

Marx: i found the first two and got a broom shaped bruise on my face

Kirby: ouch, did gryll get you? they hit pretty hard sometimes…

Marx: no it was escargoon lol

Marx: gryll got one of those tears to the face, so i think goonie grabbed the broom to defend himself

Big D: Shit, are they hurt?

Marx: nah, they’re in pretty good shape

Marx: gryll is now under a bunch of leaves, we made them a little blanket so they could stay worm

Marx: … i meant to say warm but you know

Marx: i guess that fits too? since they’re under some leaves

Marx: anyway dedede come get yo mans

Big D: I have absolutely no idea what that means, Marx.

Marx: oh, you know

Marx: You know that massive downed tree? We’re near that.

Kirby: yeah i do know it, but what happened?

Marx: A stupid clown nearly played a nasty prank.

Marx: This is Escargoon. I grabbed Marx’s phone before he could do something dumb.

Zan Parthenon: He was going to send the winky face, wasn’t he?

Gryll: nooo, that’s our inside jooooke

Kirby: oh hey, welcome back gryll!

Gryll: right i need to debrief everyone, maybe in the morning? i need access to my dream journal even though this wasn’t really a dream it’s a good idea to write it down

Gryll: the good news is that i did find a good tree, finally, while i was writing everything down

Gryll: so i’ll be re-enchanting my broom and making a new one

Gryll: @Escargoon do you want to borrow one?

Big D: He’s still sleeping.

Gryll: oh, okay

Gryll: i’ll try later then

Big D: Any reason why you want to give him one?

Gryll: because last night, i lent him it

Gryll: well, he took it from me actually, and he was like, “if you want to get rid of a pest you sweep like THIS” and then did the windy thing

Big D: The windy thing?

Gryll: kirby knows the windy thing! the thing the broom hatters do

Big D: ooooh, i get it

Gryll: but he seemed to like it, he was cackling

Daddyroach: Okay so, uh.

Daddyroach: My dad got sacrificed to Necrodeus.

Gryll: the guy who was PROBABLY your dad

Daddyroach: Most likely my dad.

Daddyroach: Considering that you said my mom confessed to being pregnant at the time.

Gryll: well no necrodouche kind of forced the confession out of her because he grabbed her and…

Gryll: uhm.

Gryll: he tried ripping you and your siblings out of her

Gryll: i think he wanted to eat you

Daddyroach: … thank god dedede’s dad was there.

Kirby: we still haven’t found any sign of DMK anywhere…

Taranza: Come back to the hotel, Kirby. Ribbon, Adeleine and I are gonna go look next.

Borb: Do you need me there?

Big D: You know, not to sound rude, but I’d rather you be at the castle right now.

Big D: If we have a group of people back at the castle, it’s… something.

Big D: In case something bad happens.

Borb: … I see.

B. Dee: I’ll do my best, your majesty!

Big D: Thank you.

Tiff: something happened

Big D: Tiff? Are you okay?

Tiff: no

Tiff: dmk came back here and took my mom

Tiff: she went out to the balcony and he grabbed her

Daddyroach: This lines up too well.

Daddyroach: I’m going to try to find her.

Tiff: she’s where you guys are?

Daddyroach: Yeah, and she’s in immediate danger.

Normally, Daroach would be happy to have a target that broadcast its location. When that target was a woman who was five months pregnant, though, things got intense.

Lady Like was kicking up one hell of a fuss, though, and it made tracking her down easy. "Yo! Marx!"

The jester crashed out of the canopy, faceplanting into a puddle. He coughed out some mud and grinned at Daroach. "I meant to do that."

"Sure you did. Now listen." Daroach pointed in the direction of the screaming. "Go up ahead for me, okay? We'll try a pincer attack."

"Oh, good idea!" Marx took to the air, then visually screeched to a halt. "Did you tell Kirby and Adeline too?"

"Yeah." Daroach readied the Triple Star, listening for the sounds of struggle. "We're close. Just a little farther…"

"Right. See ya!" Marx flew off, and Daroach zoned in on where he heard the fighting. He soon found himself in a small clearing, where he caught Dark Meta Knight getting a square kick to the face, delivered by one Lady Like.

Daroach couldn't help it. He laughed and clapped as he made his presence known. "Good job, idiot, you're getting your ass handed to you by a pregnant woman."

"A woman with a black belt," Lady Like corrected, pouting.

Dark Meta whirled and drew his sword, brandishing it towards his poor victim. "Listen here, both of you!" he growled. "I don't have time for this horseshit, nor the patience." He was shaking slightly. "All I want is for one thing to go right for me!"

"Yeah, and I'd like some goddamn peace and quiet. But life isn't fair and we don't always get what we want." Daroach shrugged. "You'd think you'd have learned that by now."

"Bold words from a thief." Dark Meta hissed, prodding Lady Like's belly with the tip of his sword. "Now. I have a gift to deliver to my master, and I'm willing to rip it out of her if need be."

Daroach felt like his stomach was turning to ice, and he lowered the brim of his hat to hide his panic. "... Master, huh? You rebounded kinda fast, huh?"

Dark Meta's wings twitched, as Daroach heard rustling in the nearby undergrowth. "What do you mean, rebound?"

"I'm just saying… you hopped on the Necrodeus train pretty damn quick." Out of the corner of his eye, Daroach saw Kirby peek out of some tall grass. He wished he had a way to signal to him to wait. "You got a thing for toxic men, don't you?"

Oooh, the sword tip was wavering now, and it was quickly pointed in Daroach's direction. "I hope you realize what you are implying."

"'Course I do." Daroach flicked the brim of his hat up and grinned. "You, my friend, are a slut."

Dark Meta Knight roared and flung himself towards Daroach, who gasped as he felt the serrated blade sink into his gut. Lady Like stumbled away from the two, and Daroach saw a waiting Adeline reach for her hand and drag her out of the area. “You do not get to impose that judgement on me!”

Daroach smirked, then coughed up blood. “Well. At least I set out what I meant to do here,” he muttered as he pressed the Triple Star against Dark Meta’s mask, and blasted him away. “Go and run back to your new sugar daddy!”

There, he fell to the ground, where he wrapped his cloak around himself as his opponent scanned the treeline. One of Daroach’s ears twitched as he heard Marx yelling hysterically - he must have found the two escapees.

“Hmph. The child’s not worth getting in a fight with the jester over.” Dark Meta sheathed his sword and turned, leaving Daroach in the dirt. “My master will be back soon anyway.” With that, the sound of shattering glass filled the air as he teleported away, and Kirby darted out from the bushes.

“Are you okay?” Kirby squealed, while pressing a few leaves into Daroach’s wound. Daroach yelled in pain, and Kirby almost looked a little sick. “Ooh, guess not…”

Adeleine: I’m pretty sure I saw some dents in that mask, your mom’s a straight-up badass.

Adeleine: Are you okay though, dad?

Daddyroach: No.

Daddyroach: He got me bad, but Doc’s taking care of the stab wound.

Adeleine: i should have stayed?

Daddyroach: Absolutely not. You could have gotten stabbed.

Adeleine: … yeah, you’re right.

Gooey: tiiiiiiiiff

Marx: so uh daroach

Marx: why’d you call him a slut?

Tiff: what’s that word mean?

Marx: you’ll find out when you’re older.

Escargoon: Speaking of your mom, Tiff…

Escargoon: Should I go talk to her?

Tiff: is there a reason why you think you shouldn’t?

Escargoon: We weren’t always on good terms.

Escargoon: Scratch that, we were never on good terms, up until I left.

Tiff: i think she knows you’re trying to change for the better

Tiff: i don’t think it’ll hurt to see her

Dedede: Can you like, keep her company while I’m out dealing with some shenanigans?

Dedede: There’s something going on to the north, and I’m going to go investigate.

Escargoon: I can do that.

Escargoon stared at the door handle way longer then he probably should have. One of the Waddle Dees that worked for the hotel was giving him a curious look. He knew the worst things Lady Like could do - he’d seen her beat the shit out of those guys who’d stalked her daughter. If she didn’t want to see him, well… he probably deserved whatever she dished out.

He finally decided to just knock. “Oh, who is it?” Lady Like’s voice rang out loud and clear, and Escargoon swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat.

“It’s, um. It’s me.” There was a brief pause, and he added. “Can I come in?”

“Yes. Yes you may.” Oh boy, that response was rather terse...

Escargoon took a deep breath and entered the room. Technically, it was the one in his name, but with the… thing with Dedede, that was up in the air. Lady Like was here, now, nestled in a pile of pillows, one hand resting on her belly while the other one picked at a piece of bread. She looked like she’d been woken up in the middle of the night - in fact, she probably had been. “So! I’d ask you how things have been, but. Yeah.”

Like gave him a look so sour it could curdle milk. " I have had one of the worst mornings of my life. Are you certain you are happier here?"

"Huh?" Escargoon blinked in confusion. "Of course I am! Why, instead of getting hit all the time, I get hit on -" Lady Like had instantly raised an eyebrow. "Oops."

Well, her mood seemed to have improved. "Escargoon," she said with a conspiratorial smirk, "I have the inkling that you have a thing with the king!"

Escargoon felt his cheeks heat up, and he turned away. "What gave you that idea?"

“Well…” Like tilted her head and winked. “I heard you were sleeping with him...”

“T-that was only last night!” he spluttered. “A-and it was platonic, okay. No shenanigans happened!”

“Yes, and I only married my husband platonically.”

“Look, he hasn’t even kissed me yet, okay?” Escargoon crossed his arms. “And I doubt it counts as a thing if he hasn’t even asked me out yet.”

“But there is a potential of a thing, yes?” Like smirked at him. “I’m sure your mother will be happy to know her little snail has a sweetie!”

“Oh, no, no, you are NOT telling her before I do!” He began to pace a bit. “Great, now I forgot what I even came here for in the first -”

Escargoon was interrupted by a wet “thump” on the balcony, and he jumped and whirled to face the sliding glass door, now plastered with Gooey’s face. He sighed in relief as he went to open it, but as Gooey rolled in, he realized that the little slimeball did not seem happy at all. “Hey little guy, what’s up?” Gooey wiggled around, a look of distress on his face. “Listen, Gooey, I know you’re upset, but you’re going to have to use your words, okay?”

Gooey paused for a moment, then opened his mouth and shouted one word. “FUCK!”

Lady Like gasped in horror. "Was this where Tiff learned that word?"

"Nah, that was probably Marx." After a look of confusion from Like, he continued. "Y'know, little jester guy, kicked Dedede in the junk?"

"Ah, him." She rose from the bed, smoothing her hand over her stomach. "Oh, my! Escargoon, look!"

"Huh?" A massive thundercloud was beginning to form on the horizon, but something was off. Mainly, it seemed like it was pouring out of the ocean. "That's not good..."

Gooey was beginning to buzz loudly. "Is he supposed to be doing that?" Lady Like asked, then cringed in disgust as Gooey spat out his phone. "Oh…"

Escargoon, however, noticed something else. Something that looked like a shockwave of sorts… and it was heading towards them, fast. He shoved Lady Like aside, away from the glass door, then grabbed Gooey and ducked into his shell.

Presenting, the villain crew! I'm not totally sure in hindsight why I didn’t do Zero or Zero Two, but I’ve got Dark Matter Swordsman, and Void Termina echoes a lot of 02, so hey.

Design notes under the cut:

Dark Matter Swordsman: Initially, I intended to have DMS’s outfit more heavily evoke Dedede’s, to visually hint at how DMS possessed him. I had trouble drawing this out for some reason, and not long after I saw someone depict DMS with their hair down and I thought they had a striking resemblance to Aizawa from My Hero Academia. That drew me to the official Medieval AU art for Aizawa, which then informed DMS’s outfit/face/hairstyle. Only the obi and the tunic style really stuck around from the original DMS-dresses-like-Dedede idea (and while I was careful to make sure Dedede’s tunic was wrapped left over right, I drew DMS’s tunic wrapped right over left like a dead person to drive home how wrong and devoid of independent life Dark Matter really is). I’d planned out the tunic’s eye design when I was drawing Gooey; it’s meant to evoke non-Sword Dark Matter, with the weird orange petal things and whatnot. In this gijinka ‘verse, I figure it’s like the emblem of the Dark Matter cult/puppets of Zero, or at least the emblem of entities of DMS’s rank (since Gooey’s emblem is much, much simpler). I dunno if DMS is a cyclops or if one eye is in shadow, so I drew it ambiguously.

Queen Sectonia: This was actually the last gijinka I drew; for months while I was planning and drawing all of them, I’d decided to upload them in batches of three, so I picked three villains to draw- DMS as a classic villain, Morpho because his design is awesome, and Void Termina for being the newcomer on the villain scene. But in April and May I started getting attacked by inspiration for Sectonia, and started doodling rough ideas in my margins, and not long after graduating I went and finished this piece. Her hair was originally going to be an elaborate combination of late 1700s French aristocrat wigs and a 60s beehive hairdo (geddit? beehive? ...I’ll show myself out), but I didn’t totally like the look of that, so I went for Victorian curls instead. I tried to draw a bit on Queen Elizabeth I for her gown, hence the wasp-waisted corset (geddit? wasp? ...I refuse to apologize for this one), but otherwise basically everything came straight from her in-game model. If she started out as Taranza’s species I dunno where her other arms went. Maybe she traded them in for wings.

Morpho Knight: Like Galacta Knight, Morpho Knight drew a lot of inspiration from the soldier armor in Fire Emblem Echoes. In this case, not only his armor but his build/vague face shape/hair was based on the character Lukas. With that as the general plan, I based the details of Morpho Knight’s armor on what’s present in the in-game model. The mask’s color and style (sharp edges, vivid red, lots of black filigree/holes/whatever they are) went into the armor around Morpho’s core, the silver-with-orange-trim shoulderpads were translated into the pauldrons, kneeguards, and tassets, and Morpho’s foot armor became the basis for the gijinka’s gauntlets and greaves. I stylized the latter a bit to give them a slightly petal-ish look, since if Morpho Knight’s a butterfly I may as well go all out in making him look like a sylph or fairy knight.

Void Termina: DETAILS AHOY! This is the crowning piece of this series in terms of sheer detail. Ironically, my original idea was pretty simple- to depict Void, I’d draw a Kirby-ish guy in a fuchsia habit, to evoke both Void’s simplicity (round shape, simple garment) and status as the center of a cult. Then I thought it’d be neat to add the cloak, to make Void look more spherical and similar to the game boss (and also to hearken back to Gooey’s poncho and DMS’s cape), then I decided to give them the Master Crown because how the heck could I not. But the problem with that was that if I was adding in one detail from the winged!Void fight, why not add in more, and if I was referencing the winged form then why not the giant, and before I knew it this became a hodgepodge of EVERYTHING from ALL of Void’s designs. In the end I decided that this design partly represents the transition from the first stage- the mask is broken and their wings are growing- but at the same time their true inner form is visible, so... yeah.
