A majority of people in VC collect due to a passion for nature and interest in biological sciences, or do so for spiritual reasons. Very very few do it for the ~aesthetic~ alone and i will admit if i come across weird dark edgy goth uwu collectors I block them because it puts me off. Most people do it because they want to learn more about the life around them and how it works and it is kind of embarrassing to see somebody with a platform try to suggest otherwise to a following of non-vultures when they don't know anything about our community.

I can never understand people who unironically believe people who do taxidermy/bone cleaning are cruel or hate animals. like Yes Sharon, I got my hands soaked in blood gutting a roadkill badger to get him to fit on my bag and prevent slip, biked 2 hours home carrying a 30+ pound bag in the pouring rain, spent 6 hours getting his pelt, and then spent £40 on further supplies so I can spend my half term week slaving over his pelt to preserve it, all because I HATE animals ❤️

Hi! I saw your post about a couple heads you obtained through pest control. I was wondering how you would go about asking local pest control companies if they would be willing to give you any dead animals that they may have? Thank you and have a good rest of your day! :)

im in the UK and its more reliable to go through sellers on facebook IMO! theres a raw specimens group run by Sam Cropper that was very good for it. ive never tried though companies but it may be different in the states and most may decline.

went on my walk for the first time in a couple weeks yesterday and i found a couple cool feathers so i picked them up but i couldn't help but think "i am destroying the ecosystem" and it made me laugh. anywhere here they are :) herring gull juvenile retrice and tawny owl down

pickle update: well i opened the tub last night and the pH is the same and it doesnt smell and the pelts arent rotting so im assuming that means i got it right!

accidentally left the door open on my freezer at some poing and after a few days i noticed and closed it properly and now its been like a week since and i check and it is simply not frozen. Every pelt thats in there is no good now. I dont know why its doing this

That specific user's bad take actually made me uncomfortable enough that I unfollowed ): sucks bc a lot of what they say is important but I cannot currently deal with feeling guilt about collecting bones.

I genuinely 100% despise discourse and feeling like I'm stirring shit up but yeah it really upset me. I don't really have the energy to keep a track of it past my long reblog and will probably reblog still any future stuff regarding husbandy or shitty animal media if I stumble across it but fully publishing equally ignorant messages really got to me. As a community we deal with enough shit, not even getting into the bizarre notion of having Collecting Bones/Feathers/Rocks in the same category as Deforestation or Oil drilling...

People are allowed to enjoy things without needing to have some motive for why they like it. While I agree that vulture culture can be more than just an aesthetic, acting like people who only enjoy the aesthetic are somehow lesser than you is a bad take

This is in reference to a specific bad take by another user implying we ONLY do it for the aesthetic, which is simply not true for the majority of the community. Liking the aesthetic of bones, remains, and death for the vibe/aesthetic alone is not bad or lesser - hell, I've got my fair share of liking death as an aesthetic. Just some specific instances of my work being seen as edgy/goth/dark aesthetic etc makes me feel uncomfortable and I have a right to curate my online space.
